Jacobus was selected from his work as a YouTuber, his channel is based around re-creating fight scenes from games. April's free Xbox LIVE Gold games are pretty great

Derek Strickland | Mar 29, 2018 6:23 PM CDT

Xbox LIVE Gold subscribers are getting some pretty awesome free games in April, including Assassin's Creed: Syndicate.

April's free Xbox LIVE Gold games are pretty great

While Sony had a fantastic free PS Plus lineup for January and February, Games With Gold smashes the competition with April's games. Microsoft's GWG headliners include Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, a huge 18th Century excursion into Ubisoft's historically-accurate depiction of London during the Industrial Revolution, and The Witness, a neat little puzzle indie game with colorful visuals.

And those are just the Xbox One games. On Xbox 360 we'll get the worthy horror successor Dead Space 2 (RIP Visceral Games!) and...Cars 2. Yeah, we're not so excited about that one but it should keep the kids entertained right?

No Man's Sky coming to Xbox with 4K upgrades for Xbox One X

Derek Strickland | Mar 29, 2018 5:14 PM CDT

After years of waiting, Xbox owners will soon be able to explore the cosmos in No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky coming to Xbox with 4K upgrades for Xbox One X

When it launched in 2016 No Man's Sky was a disappointment on both PS4 and PC. Steady updates improved things and expanded the game's scope, giving players new freedoms and activities, but the core remained the same: No Man's Sky is about getting lost in a huge, sprawling inhospitable universe that resembles an old 1970's sci-fi book cover. But like I said a steady stream of updates has filled things out and made finding our way easier, but also made getting lost that much more entertaining.

Fast-forwarding to today and we see Hello Games announcing an Xbox One version as well as a huge new game update called No Man's Sky NEXT, which is due out in Summer 2018. This will be a huge undertaking and represents the biggest update the game has seen to date. Here's what Hello Games has to say about it:

April's PS Plus games revealed

Derek Strickland | Mar 29, 2018 4:25 PM CDT

Sony's PlayStation Plus games for April aren't nearly as good as January's and February's lineup.

April's PS Plus games revealed

Another new month and another new round of free games for PS Plus subscribers...but this time we'll be treated to one badass game instead of two. PS4 gamers will get Mad Max, Avalanche's unique spin on the post-apocalyptic universe with explosive chaos and rip-roaring Interceptor-fueled fun. Although the game is from 2015, it's still quite fun and definitely deserves some of your time.

Next up we have TrackMania Turbo on PS4, an arcade-style racing game that admittedly looks fun but could just as easily be one of those filler types of games. The two PS3 games for next month are In Space We Brawl and Toy Home, followed by 99 Vidas and Q*Bert Reloaded for the Vita.

No Man's Sky will arrive on Tencent's localized Chinese gaming platform sometime soon.

No Man's Sky takes flight onto Tencent's WeGame platform

China is a massive segment for the global video games market. Analyst firm Newzoo predicts that China will generate a huge $36.3 billion in game revenues in 2018, and much of that is likely gleaned from games published by Tencent. We've seen major games-makers team up with Tencent to bring their games overseas, including PUBG Corp and more recently Ubisoft, and now the devs at Hello Games are bringing their controversial space sim No Man's Sky to Tencent's Steam competing games marketplace.

In a recent update, Hello Games' lead Sean Murray confirmed that not only is No Man's Sky expanding its reach by a big console market by rolling out for Xbox One this Summer, but the game will also arrive on Tencent's WeGame platform as well. WeGame is essentially a localized version of Steam run by Tencent that gives devs and gamers a direct community to buy, sell, share, and interact with one another.

Nintendo: don't use third-party Switch docks

Derek Strickland | Mar 29, 2018 2:10 PM CDT

Following reports of Switch hardware being damaged by third-party docks, Nintendo tells gamers to avoid them and only buy officially-branded Nintendo products.

Nintendo: don't use third-party Switch docks

Switch owners have reported that third-party docks from Nyko are actually bricking their systems. It appears the damage happened after the Switch's new 5.0 firmware update, however Nyko has since issued a statement on the very real problem: "We believe it is related to the way the Switch handles AV output for an external TV/monitor while the console is docked on the Portable Docking Kit," Nyko said to Kotaku.

There's a few reasons why gamers would go with Nyko's Portable Docking Kit instead of carting along the official dock that comes with the Switch. First up, Nyko's dock is about $40, or half of the $80 price tag of a new Switch dock. Secondly the dock allows you to actually see the Switch's screen as you play on TV Mode. But both of these convenience options are absolutely overshadowed by the potential risk of destroying your new $299 handheld-console hybrid.

The very well known character from The Witcher series has acquired a behind the scenes video detailing his debut to the newest title in the Soulcalibur franchise, Soulcalibur VI.

Recently we have seen classic characters from the Soulcalibur series, such as Nightmare, receive the same treatment as Geralt has above. The famous monster hunter has members of CD Projekt Red to detail Geralts debut to the new title. Borys Pugacz Muraszkiewicz, Director of the English Adaptations, Sebastian Kalemba, Head of Animation and Marcin Momot the Community Lead discuss what they had to do to eject Geralt from The Witcher 3 and place him into Soulcalibur VI.

All of the team members from CD Projekt Red are making sure that Geralt plays exactly the same as he does in his own respective games. So players that are worried that Geralt will be butchered coming to Soulcalibur VI fear not, as CD Projekt Red will be taking very good care of their golden child.

Fortnite will soon get a guided missile taxi service, teaser

Jak Connor | Mar 29, 2018 4:00 AM CDT

Epic Games is continuing the insane momentum of Fortnite by teasing more content to its playerbase, the new video shows what is to be future weapon added to the live game. Rocket riding taxi service incoming?

Fortnite will soon get a guided missile taxi service, teaser

The below video shows a short cinematic of the weapon in use, it appears that the weapon will be player locked and when fired the missile will head directly for the target.

Of course this could be a subject of change as there is no known release date for the weapon it is hard to know its full capabilities as of yet. Judging from the below video, I would say that if this weapon contains a player lock feature it would most likely come with a considerable rarity drop rate as well.

Yesterday, Rare released a massive patch for Sea of Thieves, today Microsoft have announced that Sea of Thieves has brought more than two million players to the game.

Microsoft announce Sea of Thieves hits 2 million players

Microsoft have announced that Sea of Thieves has already taken the lead for best-selling Microsoft Studios first-party title on Windows 10. Not only does Sea of Thieves have quite an achievement in Microsofts books, but also streaming numbers for the newly released title is something to throw some recognition at as well. More than 100,000 players have streamed Sea of Thieves since its launch, this has resulted in more than 10 million hours watched.

As Sea of Thieves grows with its insane popularity, I hope to see Rare add a bit more content to the game. Rare didn't know that their title was going to be as popular as it has turned out to be, this resulted in problems arising within the game. On a positive note, Rare really are trying to keep players in the loop with the progression of their game, this is something i can really respect.

Luminous Productions' new games may have live services

Derek Strickland | Mar 28, 2018 5:31 PM CDT

The new Luminous Productions dev studio is indeed working on AAA games, but it's likely that some of these titles will have online-based live services (think Final Fantasy XV's online Comrades mode).

Luminous Productions' new games may have live services

On the heels of Final Fantasy XV's major development milestones (releasing on PC, pushing the Luminous engine to new heights, etc) Square Enix recently opened up a new studio called Luminous Productions made up of key FFXV devs including game director Hajime Tabata and a portion of his team. This new studio will develop AAA games and other entertainment content and it's very likely that the powerful, proprietary Luminous games engine will power these titles. But it's just as likely that Square Enix will bake in live services into these future games to ensure a longer tail and stronger long-term revenues to boot.

While scouting Luminous Production's new website I saw some job openings that caught my eye. The studio is hiring a live services planner that will create, implement, and oversee the engagement-driving live services that will undoubtedly be incorporated in Luminous Productions' future games.

PUBG Mobile supports keyboard and mouse, emulators dominate

Jak Connor | Mar 28, 2018 4:00 AM CDT

The recent discovery of keyboard and mouse support for PUBG Mobile through the use of an Android emulator has sparked an unfair advantage amongst the PUBG Mobile community.

PUBG Mobile supports keyboard and mouse, emulators dominate

PUBG Mobile already contains some pretty stiff controls, these controls hinder most players into performing actions much more slowly when compared to a keyboard and mouse. I suppose you could call them 'clever', but not fair players, have decided to see if PUBG Mobile works through an Android emulator on their PC. To their joy and everyone else in the games demise it works with keyboard and mouse support.

The above video shows a YouTuber named Shivaxi who has released video showing that is completely possible, he even admitted that this being possible on the mobile version of the game could result in other players thinking that he is "cheating."

In the developer update that contained a variety of different information regarding the future for Sea of Thieves: It was detailed by Executive Producer Joe Neate, that instead of spending more time reducing the size of the update they decided to just get the patchwork done and get it out there, then they will worry about the size for future patches.

Here is what Neate had to say on the patch size, "Our ideal scenario was that we got that patchwork done and we released a smaller patch, but we've made the decision to get that full game update [out there] because of all the fixes it's got which is going to improve the experience for everyone," he said, "but it is a full game size update ... you're going to be downloading the client again."

Sea of Thieves developers address current game problems

Jak Connor | Mar 28, 2018 1:00 AM CDT

Rare have taken to their YouTube channel to release the first developer update detailing their progression through Sea of Thieves' problems.

Sea of Thieves developers address current game problems

Craig Duncan and Joe Neate run players through the current long list of problems that Sea of Thieves is facing. Neate discusses the some of the main issues that players have, and further details how the developers are on track to reprimand these problems and get the game on track to where it should be.

According to both Duncan and Neate the problems surrounding achievements was due to letting a massive influx of players on the servers once the game went live, this caused numerous problems. The developers decided to turn off the achievement feature so more players could enjoy the Sea of Thieves experience at once, simultaneously Rare has stored achievements server side for each player so no one misses out. This should result in players logging in and gaining multitudes of achievements at once throughout this week sometime.
