Xbox boss confirms AMD partnership for 'future platforms'

| Jan 9, 2019 9:16 PM CST

CES 2019 - During AMD's own CES 2019 press conference, company CEO Lisa Su had Xbox boss Phil Spencer on stage to talk about the partnership between the two companies over "future platforms" which is all but the confirmation we need to know AMD is making the hardware for multiple next-gen Xbox consoles.

Xbox boss confirms AMD partnership for 'future platforms'

Microsoft is knee deep working on Xbox Scarlett which is rumored to use a Ryzen CPU of some sort and a next-gen GPU that should be Navi, but during the press conference Spencer said: "As a company, we look at the opportunity in gaming and one of the things I want to say is when we think who our partners are, we think about great companies that do great work, but also do it in the right wayYou're somebody that I respected a ton in this industry and I've seen the way you've led AMD, and I think having a partner like AMD that works so collaboratively with us on our future technology, but also as a cultural level I think fits so well, it's awesome to have you as a partner".

He continued: "As we look forward to future platforms that we're building and work that we're doing, the partnership and the innovations that we've seen in the past have led to what we've been able to do today, I think they're going to be critically important to our future endeavors. I'm really looking forward to showing those to people more in the future".

Gears of War 5 console KB&M support is just the beginning

| Jan 9, 2019 3:32 PM CST

Razer has inadvertently confirmed Gears of War 5 will support mouse and keyboard on Xbox One...but this is to be expected.

Gears of War 5 console KB&M support is just the beginning

Razer is one of the growing peripheral-makers that are bringing their mice and keyboards to the Xbox One, and a new updated list of supported games shows some titles that aren't even out yet. Gears of War 5 is listed (with Chroma support no less), but this isn't a surprise, and in fact we should see all of Microsoft's major first-party games get KB&M support.

With KB&M support, Microsoft continues blurring the lines between consoles and PC, which was the plan all along. This is an important piece of the cross-platform ecosystem Microsoft has created, and since every new first-party Microsoft game is coming to PC as well, we should see these games also get KB&M support on Xbox.

Epic Store wins big with Ubisoft partnership

| Jan 9, 2019 1:29 PM CST

Ubisoft will bring future games to the Epic Games store, signalling big things to come from the new PC Game Store Wars.

Epic Store wins big with Ubisoft partnership

Ubisoft's and Epic Games' new partnership sees future games like The Division 2 skipping Steam and coming to the Epic Store instead. This move is purely business motivated, of course, as the Epic Store allows Ubisoft to keep 88% of all game sale earnings compared to Steam's 70-30 split. Even with its own uPlay store, Ubi typically releases its games on Steam to expand sales potential.

The Division 2 won't be the only Ubisoft game that skips Steam, however: Epic confirmed that other "select titles" will come to the Epic Store later in 2019 (maybe Far Cry: New Dawn).

Resident Evil 2 Remake Steam page reveals final game size

On the official Steam page for "RESIDENT EVIL 2 / BIOHAZARD RE:2", Capcom has taken to the updates section to shine some light on the Windows system requirements. The news is surrounding Windows 8 and it being "removed from the system requirement since it is no longer supported by Microsoft". Capcom also updated the system requirements section showcasing to players that Resident Evil 2 will be coming in at a final size of 26GB. Devil May Cry 5 is the longest DMC game, around 15 hours

| Jan 9, 2019 3:00 AM CST

Capcom is gearing up for the release of Devil May Cry 5, and so they should be as the March 8 release date is almost upon us. In wake of the game almost being due to release, we have some news from the games Director regarding its play length.

Devil May Cry 5 is the longest DMC game, around 15 hours

The Devil May Cry 5 Director, Hideaki Itsuno was asked during a Q&A session in Seoul how long should fans expect the game to be. The Director said that with data from internal testing within Capcom fans should expect the length of the game to be around 15 hours or so. This might not sound like much, but for a hack-n-slash game this is quite a lengthy amount of game time. Especially when considering all of the other Devil May Cry games only featured 8-12 hours of gameplay.

If Itsuno is correct with his approximation of game length, then Devil May Cry 5 will be the longest game in the series when using the numbers from the 'How Long to Beat' website. In other news about Devil May Cry 5, we learned yesterday that Capcom will be issuing out a second demo for both the Xbox One and PS4. If you are interested in checking out more information regarding that demo and when it will be made available, click here. Devil May Cry 5 will be debuting to the Xbox One, PS4 and PC on March 8th, 2019.

| Jan 9, 2019 1:30 AM CST

BioWare are now in talks about the coming demo for keen and ready Anthem players, the demo is about two weeks away and will no doubt be coming to the players that have already pre-ordered the game.

After a week of exclusive early bird access, BioWare will be opening the demo up to the general public to hear their thoughts on one of the most anticipated titles of 2019.

BioWare's Lead Producer, Michael Gamble commented on the coming demo, saying "Had a few people ask me about why we are doing an open Anthem Demo. This is why: your money is hard earned. Games are an investment. We think it's fair you get to try before you buy. The entire campaign has been one of transparency, and we think Anthem is cool to watch but AWESOME to play." Not only did Gamble discuss the demo, but he also took on-board a fans request for a social hubs within the game. Anthem is planned for February 22nd and will be coming to the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, Switch journey starts April 23

| Jan 9, 2019 1:00 AM CST

Capcom has announced that it will be bringing another title to Nintendo's handheld system, introducing 2013's classic RPG Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen to the Nintendo Switch.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, Switch journey starts April 23

For those that have never heard of Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, the game was released back in 2013 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The title is developed by Capcom and gives players the option of choosing between nine vocations or classes, each completely different from the last and each with a unique set of skills and attributes. Players will not be alone in the world of Gransys as they will be embarking on their adventure with three AI companions called 'Pawns.'

Pawns can be swapped in and out depending on what the player prefers and can also be shared online to reap rewards of treasure. Pawns will primarily assist the player in taking down massive enemies and can also be used as a utility when completing certain quests. Within the entirety of this post I have provided dot points for the 'key features' of Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen by Capcom. The Nintendo Switch version of Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen will be arriving on the handheld console on April 23, 2019. Fun fact - the original Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen was released on the 23rd April, 2013 and now the Switch version is releasing exactly 6 years to the date.

Project CARS boss: give Mad Box console a slogan, get $10K

| Jan 8, 2019 8:28 PM CST

There is a large amount of hype quickly building around Slightly Mad Studios in the last week or two, with our first real news about its upcoming next-gen Project CARS 3 game and then the weird-but-real news about the developer working on its own console known as Mad Box.

Project CARS boss: give Mad Box console a slogan, get $10K

Now we have studio boss Ian Bell taking to Twitter announcing that whoever comes up with the marketing slogan for Mad Box will get $10,000 as well as "free games for life". Bell added that this "isn't a joke". After what would've been a flood of suggestions, Bell tweeted out that he couldn't keep up with everyone, but he will "get my guys in to vet every single suggestion and the one we use (if we use it but at this rate I think we will) will see the cash and the games".

Bell has previously commented that the Mad Box will be the "most powerful console ever" but is that for today's standards with the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro? Or is it already better than what we'll see inside of Xbox Scarlett and PlayStation 5? I guess we'll have to wait and see, just like we'll have to wait and see what the marketing slogan is for Mad Box. I hope it's something so completely cheesy.

Metro Exodus' story is built on hope and struggle

| Jan 8, 2019 6:34 PM CST

New Metro Exodus footage sets the stage for an epic tale of brutality, war, and hope, all wrapped up in enthralling gameplay.

Metro Exodus' story is built on hope and struggle

At its core, Metro Exodus seems to be a story about hope. Beset with impossible odds of survival in a blasted, ruined hellscape of a world, Artyom and his crew of rangers have survived by living underground for decades. After the bombs went off and turned the world into a nuclear holocaust, man was forced to subterranean depths to live among the shadows. But there was always tales of a place beyond the Metro that wasn't scorched, a place of sunlight and warmth and flowing breezes. This is where Exodus' story begins--as a literal exodus from the dark and into the light. Even if it's not a utopia, it has to beat the sunken tunnel-cities in the dark.

The new story trailer illustrates as much and really drives home themes of hope and struggle. Getting out of the Metro was just the beginning and Artyom's problems escalate further as more factions and warring tribes fight bloody wars on the sun-lit surface. The game itself is set up to highlight these themes, especially with the dynamic weather cycles that change from region to region and day-to-night time schemes bringing new life (and death) to each part of the expansive Russian game world.

Sony must to sell 4.8 million more PS4s to hit fiscal target

| Jan 8, 2019 5:32 PM CST

Sony enjoyed a massive PS4 sales spike this holiday season, but the next quarter will need to see strong consumer adoption to meet the company's projected targets.

Sony must to sell 4.8 million more PS4s to hit fiscal target

Yesterday Sony confirmed that the PlayStation 4 family of consoles has sold 91.6 million units globally as of December 31, 2018, meaning it managed to move 5.6 million units during its Q3'18 fiscal quarter. The holiday rush is the most important period for many hardware-makers, but for Sony, the three-month period after Black Friday and Christmas will be crucial.

For the total Fiscal Year 2018, Sony expects to sell 17.5 million PS4 consoles, upticked by 500,000 units. Right now it's about 4.8 million short of that goal and Q4 is typically softer for hardware sales. In fact this holiday season was softer than last year's PS4 sales: Sony moved 9 million PS4s in Q3'17 versus the 5.6 million in Q3'18, representing a 38% decrease year-over-year. This is to be expected as the console family winds down near the end of its lifecycle, but we think the PS4 will live alongside the PS5 for years to come.

RE2make demo brings chills and thrills to all platforms

| Jan 8, 2019 3:34 PM CST

Resident Evil 2 Remake is getting a demo on all platforms later this week, and it should be pretty stressful (but in a good way).

The demo is open to everyone (no pre-order needed) and has a stressful countdown clock that sees players scrambling for survival and adapting to Raccoon City's bloody chaos. After 30 minutes of play you're locked out of the demo, adding more thrill to the experience by forcing you to make every second count.

Insofar as content, the demo will resemble the gameplay shown off at E3 2018 and takes place in the Raccoon City Police Department, complete with remastered visuals built with the latest REngine technology. It'll drop this Friday, January 11, 2019 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

PS4 & Spider-Man new sale heights: 91.6m/9m units sold

| Jan 8, 2019 5:00 AM CST

Marvel and Insomniac Games' hit PS4 title, Spider-Man is no doubt one of the 'must pick ups' for PlayStation 4 owners, this claim has been further reinforced by a recent announcement from Insomniac Games' Community Director.

PS4 & Spider-Man new sale heights: 91.6m/9m units sold

The news comes from Insomniac Games' Community Director, James Stevenson who took to Twitter to announce that as of 11/25, Spider-Man for the PS4 "has sold-through over 9 million copies." The Spider-Man success is no doubt coincided to the massive increase in sales of PS4's over the Christmas and Holiday period. At the start of December, PS4 sales were floating around the 88 million region, as of December 31 Sony's console now sits around 91.6 million. During the periods of November 19 to December 31st, Sony sold a staggering 5.6 million units.

In gratitude of these new milestones for the lifespan on the PlayStation 4, Sony Interactive Entertainment President John Kodera said "I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our passionate community around the globe, and our partners, for helping us achieve these milestones" To reward users for being a PS4 owner, Kodera discusses Sony's motivations for 2019 "This year, we will bring more enhanced experiences to our fans along with a highly anticipated lineup of games that are only possible on PS4. As we look toward the next PS4 milestone, SIE will continue to evolve, and we will further expand the platform to deliver the best interactive entertainment experiences to the world."

Anthem Storm Javelin takes flight, PC system specs released

| Jan 8, 2019 4:00 AM CST

CES 2019 - BioWare have released not only the minimum and recommended PC requirements for Anthem, but also have showcased the Storm Javelin through a gameplay trailer.

Anthem Storm Javelin takes flight, PC system specs released

The Storm Javelin gameplay video has been released through the IGN YouTube channel and gives us a breakdown into what to expect from the Storm class. Players that decide to jump into the Storm javelin should note that the class resembles somewhat of a wizard, mage or glass cannon. Glass cannon means that the class features high damaging abilities, but suffers from a lack defensive capabilities. Due to the ability of flight, Storm Javelin players should note that even if the height advantage sounds full proof, this will also mean there is a lack of cover. Making for quite an easy to take out target.

BioWare has also released the system requirements for both minimum and recommended which coincides with NVIDIA's DLSS support that was announced for Anthem yesterday, check that story out here. Within the entirety of this post you will find a screenshot of both the minimum and recommended system requirements. If you desire visiting the website yourself, a link to that can be found here.

Overwatch's 'Soldier 76' loved a man before he loved his gun

| Jan 8, 2019 3:00 AM CST

Blizzard Entertainment are no strangers to providing in-depth lore towards each of their games, Overwatch falls under that umbrella and in a new short story we learn Soldier 76's sexual orientation.

Overwatch's 'Soldier 76' loved a man before he loved his gun

Blizzard released a trailer about the recently released short story onto the their Twitter account, the post features a link to the short story which can be located here. The short story details a conversation between Soldier 76 (Jack) and Ana, throughout the conversation Ana asks Soldier 76 about the person he has his arm around in a picture. "Vincent... I haven't thought about him in years," Ana said. "Still keeping a candle lit for him?"

Soldier 76 glared towards Ana and then laughed "He got married. They're very happy. I'm happy for him." Ana being unconvinced of Soldier 76's authenticity remembered that Soldier 76 used to speak about Vincent often, "floating a dream that the war would end quickly, and maybe he'd have a chance to return to a normal life." Soldier 76 finalized his reasoning through a sigh, saying "Vincent deserved a happier life than the one I could give him. We both knew that I could never put anything above my duty. Everything I fought for was to protect people like him... That's the sacrifice I made."
