Sonic the Hedgehog movie breaks video game movie records

Anthony Garreffa | Feb 16, 2020 10:27 PM CST

Sonic the Hedgehog had its fair share of issues with its first trailer, but the production team and director were quick off the mark taking in all the criticism and fixing it up before release -- so much so that the Sonic the Hedgehog movie has broken records for a video game movie debut.

Sonic the Hedgehog movie breaks video game movie records

Sonic the Hedgehog pulled in $57 million over its 3-day opening weekend, a $2.7 million increase over the $54.3 million opening weekend of Detective Pikachu. Its 4-day US box office haul sits at $68 million, while global box office numbers for Sonic the Hedgehog have surpassed $100 million -- not bad for the SEGA front man.

Jim Carrey is one of the stars of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, with his own record to enjoy -- his second-best 3-day debut, bested by Bruce Almighty with $67.9 million back in 2003. As for Sonic, the character has grossed over $5 billion in game sales, has multiple animated TV shows, mobile games, and so much more since his debut in 1991.

Matrix 4's death-defying stunts spotted in San Francisco

Derek Strickland | Feb 16, 2020 3:16 PM CST

Principal shooting for The Matrix 4 has begun in San Francisco, and now we have a glimpse at the crazy skyscraper-leaping stunts that'll return for the sequel.

Matrix 4's death-defying stunts spotted in San Francisco

The Matrix wouldn't be the same if people weren't jumping off of buildings and risking their lives for impressive scenes. A bystander recently captured The Matrix 4's stunt shooting in San Fran, showing cable-assisted leaps of faith off of skyscrapers. It looks like Neo and Trinity are doing the stunt, and Trinity may now be able to fly in the movie--unless it's just part of resetting the cable rigging.

We can't tell if its Keanu himself performing the stunts (probably so), but the actor has been recently spotted in San Francisco recording other scenes for the movie.

Subway tweets Zack Snyder about a Justice League sandwich

Anthony Garreffa | Feb 15, 2020 10:48 PM CST

I have been a part of the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement since day one, after WB completely screwed over the best director in the DCEU -- Zack Snyder, after his daughter tragically took her own life when he was working on Justice League.

But ever since the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement took more and more momentum, the removed director of Justice League has seen his fan base take things to the next level. Every few weeks Snyder releases a new part of his version of Justice League, leading up to 14/2 or 214 -- a reference to the 214-minute cut of Justice League.

WB directed The Avengers director Joss Whedon, who replaced Snyder towards the end of Justice League's production, to force the move under two hours -- so Whedon re-shot a bunch of Justice League and chopped the movie down to 119 minutes -- 1 minute under 2 hours. The 214 reference has been huge on February 14 or Valentine's Day, or to us Snyder Cut fans -- 214 day. To celebrate, Snyder released a new photo of The Flash using his Speed Force.

HBO Max trailer teases everything apart from #ReleaseTheSnyderCut

Anthony Garreffa | Feb 15, 2020 8:14 PM CST

HBO Max is quickly ramping up to its big streaming debut in May 2020, with a new HBO Max teaser trailer released that showcases just a glimpse of what to expect from its gigantic library of content.

HBO Max trailer teases everything apart from #ReleaseTheSnyderCut

We shouldn't be surprised that the HBO Max teaser trailer opens with Friends, given that WarnerMedia paid a huge $425 million for the rights to Friends on HBO Max. But HBO Max will also include every episode of The Big Bang Theory and South Park, as well as every single episode of Friends and Game of Thrones -- oh, as well as every single Batman, Superman, and Joker movie released.

Not only that, but we're looking at The Matrix Trilogy -- a big scoop going into The Matrix 4 in 2021, as well as hit shows like Rick and Morty, The O.C. and The West Wing. On top of that, the company recently announced it had created a new division that was solely made to create streaming movies, so we should expect big things moving forward. The only thing missing?

Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr deepfaked into Back to the Future

Anthony Garreffa | Feb 15, 2020 6:30 PM CST

Back to the Future is one of my favorite movies of all time and I highly cherish it, it's something I don't want to ever be rebooted or remade -- but a deepfake inserting some new actors into it for fun? I'm up for that. Check this out:

Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr deepfaked into Back to the Future

In the movie, Michael J. Fox plays Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd plays Doc Brown -- but in a deepfake of Back to the Future, YouTuber EZRyderX47 has inserted Avengers: Endgame stars Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. The two play Peter Parker / Spider-Man and Tony Stark / Iron Man respectively, but thanks to deepfake tech they take over the roles of Marty and Doc.

It's an absolutely incredible (and somewhat horrifying) look at what deepfake technology is capable of, and as someone who has watched countless hours and researched heavily into deepfake tech, it's one of the best I've seen yet.

Second half of Rick and Morty Season 4 rumored to release in April

Jak Connor | Feb 14, 2020 3:12 AM CST

If you are a Rick and Morty fan, then you are no doubt upset with how long you have had to wait for the second half of the awesome season four. But what if I told you it was just around the corner?

Second half of Rick and Morty Season 4 rumored to release in April

Right now, Rick and Morty are halfway through their fourth season, and before the year ticked over to 2020, Adult Swim announced that they would be going on a break only to return with the second half of season four. Fans have waited quite some time for that second half, and during that waiting period, Adult Swim posted to their Twitter page requesting "patience".

While patience is running thin for fans, Adult Swim did say that the second half would return sometime in 2020 and gave no specific date - so it's like they have lied. It's assumed that there have been some production issues with the second half of the season, which can be understandable if fans are informed. So when will the second half release? According to "sources" close to TheBuzzPaper, the second half of the season is expected to release in "April".

First look at Robert Pattinson as 'The Batman' in new dark video

Jak Connor | Feb 14, 2020 2:35 AM CST

We have been hearing about how Robert Pattinson was geared up to take on the role of the Caped Crusader, and now we have video proof.

First look at Robert Pattinson as 'The Batman' in new dark video

According to a report by Deadline, Robert Pattinson is seen wearing the bat suit in red-saturated camera test released by The Batman director, Matt Reeves. The music that is heard throughout the video is a score done by Michael Giacchino, which adds a certain dark tone to Bruce Wayne's alter ego.

The camera test was shared on Reeve's Twitter account, and fans were quick to judge what they saw. Not-so-surprisingly reactions were very divided with many fans comparing Ben Affleck's Batman in Batman V Superman and Justice League, to what they are now seeing in Reeve's design with Robert Pattinson. If you didn't know, The Batman by Reeves will concentrate on batman's known trait as the world's greatest detective.

Batman themed restaurant to open in London

Anthony Garreffa | Feb 13, 2020 9:11 PM CST

I didn't think this would ever come officially from Warner Bros. but here we are -- there's a Batman-themed restaurant opening in London called Park Row, named after the neighborhood in Gotham that houses Batman's crazy enemies.

Batman themed restaurant to open in London

Park Row will be located in the heart of London so that restaurant visitors will feel like they're actually entering the Batcave when they arrive, with different areas in the restaurant catering to different characters and themes from the Batman universe. There's even a library themed after Alfred, Bruce Wayne's butler, and an "old Gotham city" villains theme with a speakeasy feel.

Harley Quinn gets her own space of course, while the largest section of the Batman-themed restaurant goes to the "Penguin's Lounge" which has live shows, and even a gigantic penguin ice sculpture. Each section will have its own individual menu with prices averaging at around $58 per person, but there is an expensive part of the restaurant -- of course, with the "Monarch Theater" designed by Ab Rogers Design, with prices averaging at $155 per person.

Joaquin Phoenix wins Best Actor award for his Joker performance

Jak Connor | Feb 10, 2020 4:48 AM CST

The 92nd Academy Awards ceremony has just wrapped up, and as expected, Joker actor Joaquin Phoenix has taken home a well-deserved award.

Joaquin Phoenix wins Best Actor award for his Joker performance

Above, we have the Tweet from the official 'The Academy' Twitter account, which states that Joaquin Phoenix has been award an Oscar for his lead performance in the billion-dollar movie 'Joker'. Fans of the movie expected that Phoenix would be taking home the 'Actor In A Leading Role'.

Phoenix is the second actor to win a Best Actor award in the role of Joker, as Health Ledger also won the award for his performance in the legendary 2008's The Dark Knight. If you have yet to see Joker, I can say that the performance Phoenix does playing Arthur Fleck, who is a troubled clown that tumbles down a road of misery, is next to none. He has a completely different take on the Joker character, and it's quite uncomfortable to watch him slowly descend into madness.
