Starlink's new 10Gbps satellite internet costs $1.25M upfront, then $750,000 per month after
SpaceX has something truly incredible for those with deep pockets: its new Starlink service now has a gigabit speed option for its satellite internet service, with $1.25 million required up front and $75,000 per month, per Gbps per month (so 10Gbps would cost $750,000 per month) for the service once the installation -- yes, installation -- ifs installed.
The Elon Musk-led SpaceX will send out a team to build an entire facility that is dedicated to receiving 10Gbps of broadband speeds from Starlink's orbiting satellites. Regular Starlink users get sent a satellite dish, but 10Gbps isn't normal... it's a monumental amount of speed from a satellite internet service. This isn't some off-the-grid government black-level facility, it will be on someone's land feeding 10Gbps of speed for $750K a month... not bad.
How is SpaceX doing this? Well, Starlink has introduced its new "Community Gateways" option, acting as a business program to attract internet service producers (ISPs) to have new ways of bringing ultra-fast satellite broadband to remote areas.
Avowed release timing announced by Obsidian
Obsidian has updated release timing for its narrative-driven new fantasy RPG Avowed.
Avowed is set to launch sometime in Fall 2024 as a full premium game on Xbox Series X/S on PC, and with a day-and-date launch on Xbox Game Pass. Obsidian announced the date in today's Developer Direct 2024 showcase, where the studio also talked briefly about combat and promised gamers will face some tough decisions with quests.
The new fantasy RPG takes place in the Pillars of Eternity universe, and will leverage the lore, myth, magic, and overall legacy from that series. Avowed will also make use of Obsidian's penchant for engaging, impactful, and consequential storytelling; the studio says players will go against "difficult decisions with profound consequences."

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle confirmed Xbox exclusive, won't launch on PlayStation
The new Indiana Jones game apparently will not release on PlayStation consoles at launch--if ever.
Today, MachineGames and Bethesda revealed their new Indiana Jones and the Great Circle game. The project stars Harrison Ford, and takes players on a swashbuckling first-person adventure set between Raiders and The Last Crusade. Predictably, it looks like the Great Circle is exclusive to Xbox and PC and will not release on PlayStation (at least at launch).
While the Xbox YouTube channel will often upload trailers that exclude competing platforms, a game's full platform availability can typically be found on the developer/publisher's channel. Bethesda Softworks has published a trailer for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle that omits PlayStation as a launch platform--only Xbox Series X/S consoles, Game Pass, and Steam are listed (it's likely coming to the Microsoft PC store, though too).
Harrison Ford stars in new Indiana Jones and the Great Circle game
Xbox's new Indiana Jones game will use Harrison Ford's likeness, and MachineGames reveals tons of new information about its new Indy project.
MachineGames has officially revealed Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, a new action-adventure game with a first-person view. Harrison Ford has signed on to lend his iconic face to the project, complete with his signature hat, adventurer's coat, and legendary whip. Ford looks like he just jumped off the big screen and right into the game.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will come to Xbox, PC, and Game Pass in 2024, the studio has announced.

Gaming subscriptions make up 10% of annual US spending, in excess of $5 billion
Video game subscription services such as Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus account for roughly 10% of annual spending in the United States.
Ubisoft's recent comments on subscription have sparked industry-wide discussions about services. Swen Vincke, the CEO of Baldur's Gate 3 dev Larian, warned gamers that content could suffer if subscriptions became the dominant platform.
Luckily for consumers, this won't happen any time soon. According to Circana executive director and analyst Mat Piscatella, subscription services aren't a major spending point for consumers in the United States.
Take-Two vs Remedy logo dispute is a 'formality,' both companies have already worked out issues
Take-Two Interactive has filed a trademark opposition against Remedy Entertainment's new R logo, but Remedy now says both companies have already settled the matter.
In May 2023, Control, Max Payne, and Alan Wake developer Remedy Entertainment filed a trademark for a new logo. The studio wanted to change their logo to a new "R" design. At first glance, viewers might get it mixed up with Rockstar Games' infamous R* logo--at least that's what Rockstar's parent company Take-Two Interactive thought. So the billion-dollar publisher filed a trademark dispute against the Finnish studio in August, and Remedy's new trademark is listed as opposed on the UK Intellectual Property Office.
Now it's been revealed that this is actually a non-story. Remedy tells Game File's Stephen Totilo that both Remedy and Take-Two have settled their differences, and the trademark opposition was just a formality. The publisher and the studio are on good terms with one another.
Street Fighter 6 breaks 3 million sales, total Street Fighter franchise now at 52 million
Street Fighter 6 has now sold 3 million units to date, making it the fifth best-selling game in the franchise.
Capcom's latest Street Fighter game has combo'd its way to success. Street Fighter 6 has now sold 3 million copies on all platforms, which is quite the achievement given the massive amounts of video games competition in 2023. This milestone is also up +2 million sales since July 2023, where Street Fighter 6 had sold 1 million units.
Based on Capcom's historical records, Street Fighter 6 is now the fifth best-selling game in the series and looks to be among the fastest-selling Street Fighters ever released. Total Street Fighter franchise sales are now at 52 million.
Intel Arrow Lake support is in CPU-Z - a sign 15th-gen CPUs will arrive earlier than expected?
A new version of CPU-Z has been released and it adds preliminary support for Intel's next-gen Arrow Lake processors.
As you may be aware, rumors have been swirling about the potential release timeframe of desktop Arrow Lake CPUs for some time now.
In more recent times, most of that speculation has gravitated towards the idea that Arrow Lake is going to be arriving pretty late in 2024, towards the very end of the year, if not right at the end.
2024 could be the year all laptops get 16GB of RAM - and you can thank Microsoft's AI for that
Microsoft wants 2024 to be the year of the AI PC, as we've been hearing a lot lately, and those AI-toting computers are going to need 16GB of memory.
In a press release (flagged up on Reddit) about Copilot and AI PC development, TrendForce tells us:
In other words, more broadly, we can expect 16GB to become a minimum memory configuration, and all (or certainly most) laptops introduced this year will have this amount of system RAM, with desktop PC upgrades expected too, for those still on 8GB.
NVIDIA's RTX 4070 Super is below MSRP already in Europe - another hint this GPU is struggling?
NVIDIA's RTX 4070 Super is only just out - literally yesterday - but this graphics card has already sunk below its MSRP, although not in the US, mind.
In Europe we've seen price tags drop below the recommended pricing set by NVIDIA, and as VideoCardz (and Wccftech, 3DCenter) made clear, this has happened in three countries.
Firstly, in Poland, an online retailer has dropped the price of an RTX 4070 Super by 5% under the local MSRP - that's for a Gainward model (Ghost).
Got your heart set on an NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti Super? Sadly this GPU could be tricky to buy
NVIDIA's RTX 4070 Ti Super could be difficult to get your hands on, or at least stock levels might be shaky according to a new rumor, so a decent level of demand may see the graphics cards soon vanish from shelves when it's released.
That's the theory floated by Moore's Law is Dead (MLID) in his latest YouTube video which explores the RTX 4070 Super launch primarily - spoiler alert: it went badly with sluggish sales if retail and distributor sources are to be believed - but it also touches on the other new RTX Super refreshes which aren't out yet.
We're focusing on what MLID says about the RTX 4070 Ti Super in particular here, which is the next of NVIDIA's refreshes to arrive, landing next week on January 24 (to be followed by the RTX 4080 Super at the very end of the month).
Feelbelt is designed to immerse you in sound as it 'transmits every Frequency to your skin'
Sensit!'s Feelbelt is a belt with haptic technology designed to enhance the audio experience for games, music, movies, and VR. According to its creators, Feelbelt "adds a tactile layer to the [audio] experience" by "providing users with a sense of touch that complements the audio they hear."
Audio that touches you around the waist sounds strange, but adding a layer of audio feedback for those without the ability to hear is cool. "Feel Every Sound" is the tagline, and it kind of looks like Batman's gadget or toolbelt - so I'm not sure about wearing it around town connected to your smartphone so that you can feel the beat.
Still, it's an interesting product with tactile and haptic feedback covering a wide 10 to 20,000 Hz frequency range, Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connectivity to connect to smartphones, consoles, and other devices, and the option to customize the intensity to create a personalized audio experience.
SPARKLE has new low-profile Intel Arc A380 GENIE and Arc A310 ECO graphics cards coming
SPARKLE has added a pair of new Intel Arc GPUs to its line-up, this time in the form of a few low-profile offerings that would suit SFF builds or something like a home theater PC. The SPARKLE Intel Arc A310 ECO is a low-profile, single-slot, single-fan GPU with a reduced 50W power profile, while the SPARKLE Intel Arc A380 GENIE is a 75W low-profile, dual-slot, dual-fan GPU.
Outside of the awesome all-blue SPARKLE Arc aesthetic, what's impressive is that both don't need anything in the way of external power from a PSU while offering three display outputs with 1 x HDMI and 2 x mini-DisplayPort connectors on the back.
As a 4GB card with only 124 GB/s of memory bandwidth on a 64-bit bus, the SPARKLE Intel Arc A310 ECO isn't designed for gaming, but with AV1 hardware encoding and AI hardware, it should be decent for light workloads. The SPARKLE Intel Arc A380 GENIE includes 6GB of memory on a faster 96-bit bus to handle some low-fidelity gaming.
ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 4070 SUPER OC Edition pushes performance to 4070 Ti and 7900 XT levels

As with all GPUs, there are multiple models, cards with more premium cooling, overclocked specs, and more. Today, our full review of the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER OC Edition has gone live, and it's like getting a bonus chapter or SUPER-hero post-credits scene that adds to the story.
NVIDIA Reflex is now available in over 100 games, lowering system latency on GeForce GPUs
Last year, NVIDIA announced that over 500 apps and games were RTX enabled, meaning they used powerful ray-tracing or AI enhancements like DLSS rendering. It's an impressive milestone and a reminder that we're now at the point where gamers expect support for things like DLSS and ray-tracing in modern blockbuster releases.
Today comes another milestone with NVIDIA announcing that its Reflex latency reduction technology for all GeForce gamers is now available in over 100 games. Reflex reduces latency, so there's no delay from when you carry out an action to watching that action happen on screen.
Designed to give gamers a competitive edge in multiplayer titles and make single-player titles feel more responsive, Reflex is available in basically all of today's most-played and popular games - Apex Legends, Call of Duty, Counter-Strike 2, Fortnite, Cyberpunk 2077, Diablo IV, and even The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
AMD FSR 3 with Frame Generation added to Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and the free-to-play Warzone just got an update, adding support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 or FSR 3 that adds upscaling and frame generation to a broader range of gamers.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III launched with NVIDIA DLSS 3 Frame Generation support and DLSS 2, FSR 2.1, and Intel XeSS upscaling. However, like with all DLSS 3-enabled titles, the Frame Generation side of the equation is limited to the GeForce RTX 40 Series of cards - due to NVIDIA's approach using new specialized AI hardware in its latest line-up.
AMD's approach is different, an open-source platform agnostic version of both upscaling and frame generation - meaning that it's available for all players no matter if they're rocking a new 40 Series, a GeForce RTX 30 Series, or a Radeon RX 6000 or RX 7000 Series GPU.
Bethesda brings Fallout Shelter antics to Elder Scrolls with new mobile game
The Elder Scrolls is getting its own Fallout Shelter mobile game.
Bethesda has a big day tomorrow. The publisher's MachineGames studio will reveal its Indiana Jones action adventure game, and ZeniMax Online will show off what's to come in The Elder Scrolls online in 2024. While the show is tomorrow, the company took the opportunity to make an impromptu game reveal just before the big event.
The new game is called The Elder Scrolls: Castles, and it's a mobile game that's basically a TES version of Fallout Shelter. The game isn't live yet worldwide and is currently available in soft launch in the Philippines. Bethesda confirms that users can pre-register to be notified once Castles is available on the App Store and Google Play.
Xbox Developer Direct wont have shadow drops, all games will come later in 2024
Tomorrow, Microsoft sets the stage for Xbox gaming in 2024...but the lineup won't include a surprise release.
Xbox is known for casually dropping new games the very same day they were revealed. It happened with the colorful Hi-Fi Rush in 2023, so...could it happen in 2024 as well? Microsoft says no, there won't be any shadow drops this time.
A new Xbox Wire post gives gamers an idea of what to expect from tomorrow's Developer Direct. The show won't feature any sort of news updates around Activision Blizzard King games--everyone wants to know when classic Call of Duty is coming to Xbox Game Pass. Nor will Microsoft or any Xbox Game Studios publisher release a new game during the show.
The Apple Watch has been banned again and it's likely to stay that way
Apple has been told that it has to stop selling the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 smartwatches in the United States all over again. The news relates to an ongoing legal dispute over the use of blood oxygen-sensing technology that is used in those two models.
That technology has already been found to infringe upon a patent owned by the medical device firm Masimo, a company that Apple was once said to have tried to buy. A ban was previously ordered before Apple was able to get a stay on the ban while the initial stages of its appeals process were underway. However, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit declined Wednesday to grant Apple a longer pause.
Apple had to briefly stop selling the affected Apple Watches over the Christmas period before the stay was applied, but the ban will once again begin tomorrow which means that Apple Stores and Apple's online presence will have to stop selling these models at that time. An import ban will also come into effect. That means that while third-party retailers can continue to sell the wearables, they will not be able to replenish their stocks once they run dry.

Top-end GIGABYTE RTX 4070 Super GPU looks tempting - it's very nearly as fast as an RTX 4070 Ti
NVIDIA's RTX 4070 Super is on sale and reviews of different models are everywhere (we've got a write-up of the Founders Edition and a third-party INNO3D version of this graphics card too).
TechPowerUp turned up an interesting finding, though (hat tip to VideoCardz), namely that there are two RTX 4070 Super models that sport a TDP of 245W at stock - GIGABYTE's AORUS Master and Palit's Jetstream cards.
The Founders Edition is pitched at 220W (up from 200W with the RTX 4070), and the max power usage cap for NVIDIA's own variant is 240W, so by default, these third-party boards are slightly exceeding that.
