SEGA plans to revive dormant IPs on mobile, console, PC
SEGA plans to revitalize and revive older dormant IPs in its back catalog of games, but the publisher will be careful to only bring back and port over more popular games.
In SEGA's Road to 2020 briefing the Japanese publisher discusses its future plans for Fiscal Year 2018 and beyond, saying that it plans to tap its wealth of popular IPs and spread them across all major platforms--mobile, PC, and console. This revitalization will happen on both physical packaged game sales and digital games, albeit in different capacities: SEGA says that it will select titles carefully, aiming for bigger hits via popular and profitable franchises and IPs.
But it's main goal is to "create IPs that will become global hits," suggesting its games will see more localization than ever before. SEGA will now be IP-focused instead of device-focused, and aim to stretch all strong IPs across mobile, PC and consoles.

Nintendo making Pokemon trading card mobile game
On the heels of the mega-popular Pokemon GO mobile game, Nintendo partner The Pokemon Company plans to release a smartphone trading card app to tie into the popular collectible card game.

Wizards of the Coast's Magic: The Gathering Online comes to mind, as does Blizzard's massively profitable Hearthstone, the latter of which just passed the 70 million player milestone and helped earn Activision $3.6 billion in monetized revenue. Now The Pokemon Company aims to bring its strong Pokemon collectible card game to the mobile gaming sector.
Sources tell The Wall Street Journal's Takashi Mochizuki that Pokemon Co. is making a new mobile card game application for smartphones.

Leaker reveals the iPhone 8 in a rendered video
While we still don't actually know whether or not Apple will call their new phone the iPhone 7S or iPhone 8, there are already many rumors floating around about Apple's next flagship.
We recently learned that Apple has placed orders for their A11 chip that should power the new phone, and now a well-known leaker, Steve Hemmerstoffer, who goes by OnLeaks on Twitter, has posted a rendered video of what he says depicts the upcoming iPhone based on a factory computer-assisted design schematic.
The video reveals that the upcoming iPhone could have a screen that covers almost the entire front of the device. The dual rear camera setup, which was previously aligned horizontally on the back, is now positioned vertically. A recent leak shows that the iPhone SE (2017) might also have the same rear camera alignment.

AMD Ryzen 9 1998X ThreadRipper: 16C/32T @ 3.9GHz
We have been hearing about this silent monster that AMD has with 16C/32T of CPU performance, something that has been referred to as ThreadRipper and is launching in June. Now we're hearing that AMD will have 10/12/14/16 core versions, meaning we'll have CPUs with 10C/20T, 12C/24T, 14C/28T, and 16C/32T.
ThreadRipper will be compatible with a modified version of AMD's current SP3 socket, something that's codenamed SP3r2, and was designed for AMD's upcoming Naples server platform. AMD's new Whitehaven platform will provide quad-channel DDR4 with 44 PCIe lanes for multi-GPU users, enthusiasts and workstation users.
Better yet, we know the names of AMD's new ThreadRipper processors with a rather large purported list of Ryzen 9 processors.

AMD Vega with 16GB HBM2 and 1600MHz GPU leaked
AMD is in the headlines all over the place right now, with our tease of the Radeon RX Vega Nova/Eclipse/Core graphics card, and now a new report on Vega with 16GB of HBM2 and a 1600MHz GPU clock.
VideoCardz does note that they don't know if this part of the Radeon RX Vega family, as it could be a new dual-GPU graphics card in the Radeon Pro or Radeon Pro Duo series. AMD has confirmed it will have two stack HBM2 for Radeon RX Vega, but it could be in 8GB form (2 x 4GB) or a 16GB card (2 x 8GB).
Inside of the new CompuBench result, we have the maximum GPU clock of 1600MHz with 64 compute units (CUs), and what should hopefully be 4096 stream processors.

AMD Radeon RX Vega Nova: $599, beats GTX 1080 Ti
This is the hottest rumor that I've read about AMD's upcoming Radeon RX Vega graphics card, so I'll preface it with a this is a hot rumor and could be totally #fakenews so take it with a salt factory in your possession.
The latest rumor names the three different Radeon RX Vega graphics cards: RX Vega Nova, RX Vega Eclipse, and RX Vega Core. Radeon RX Vega Nova will be the GTX 1080 Ti competitor priced at $599, while the RX Vega Eclipse will handle the GTX 1080 at $499. AMD will reportedly price its Radeon RX Vega Core at $399, and will be capable of GTX 1070/1080 performance.
Remember that this is just a rumor, from a site that is providing its own sources from "very reliable sources within AMD's headquarters", which I'm very doubtful of. Anyway, the naming scheme is what I'm looking at - and if Nova, Eclipse and Core are what AMD use for their Radeon RX Vega family - I'm happy with that.

Nintendo making Zelda smartphone game, sources say
Move over, Mario: Link is slated to arrive on Shiekah Slates smartphones via a new Nintendo-branded mobile game.
Following the success of it's latest smartphone game Fire Emblem: Heroes, Nintendo is planning a new mobile game based in the popular The Legend of Zelda series, sources tell The Wall Street Journal. Sources say that the Zelda smartphone game will happen after Animal Crossing game is released in 2H 2017, but the timing could change at any point.
No official details were released, and The Wall Street Journal's sources don't say which monetization model the new Zelda game will follow; will it be the more traditional microtransaction-based "gacha" model like Fire Emblem Heroes, or will it be Nintendo's favored, but far less lucrative, free-to-start model like Super Mario Run?

Oculus steps into proper room-scale VR with Rift
HTC has been ahead of Oculus with room-scale VR since it launched the Vive, but now Oculus are stepping it up with the Rift and will "fully support" room-scale VR, something that requires 3 sensors in total.
Oculus announced the news on their community forum, something that is already in pre-release testing, and is available in the Public Test Channel of the Oculus software. What's different with the new room-scale Rift goodness, is that you'll need 3 sensors compared to the 2 that are required for Oculus Touch, while the Oculus Rift itself includes a single sensor in the box.
Oculus software has "fully supported" three-sensor Rift setups, but it has been in 'experimental' form with v1.14 of the Oculus software, with a few users reporting issues with tracking and calibration. The new v1.15 software will "fully support three-sensor configurations for larger room-scale setups", while Valve has updated the setup wizard for three-sensor configurations "based on the latest data".

Vive 2 won't come until HTC has 'meaningful innovation'
With the PC hardware market changing nearly daily, it's refreshing to hear that HTC won't be releasing another Vive headset in a rush, with HTC Vive General Manager Daniel O'Brien fielding some questions about Vive 2 recently.
During an interview with Digital Trends, O'Brien said: "We're always continuing to listen to developers, what they think is the most beneficial next-generation improvements and that's how we're solving the next headset and when that will come to market". He continued: "It's not about picking a production cycle and timeline, it's about bringing really meaningful innovation that helps the developer community to create compelling new experiences".
HTC was talking about improving and upgrading the first-gen Vive, where O'Brien said that the lighter cable made the Vive a "more comfortable mid-generation" change and that there's "no harm in us doing that". O'Brien added that: "When it comes to major jumps like resolution, that's new-new products".

Microsoft gives NSA backdoor, complains about exploits
I'm sure that you've heard about the "WannaCry" ransomware that is attacking hundreds of thousands of computers across hundreds of countries, and now Microsoft is chiming in with some fighting words against the NSA, CIA, and other spy agencies.
Microsoft President Brad Smith said that the NSA, CIA, and other spy agencies have been collecting security vulnerabilities, instead of telling Microsoft so they can fix them. Smith said there's an "emerging pattern" of these stockpiles leaking out, adding that some of themt can cause "widespread damage" when that happens. Smith even likened it to a physical weapons being leaked or stolen, comparing it to if the US military had "some of its Tomahawk missiles stolen".
But before we get too deep into this, remember that Microsoft built a freakin' backdoor into Outlook.com for the NSA, with Microsoft working for months to provide the NSA with full access to encrypted chats on Outlook.com, something we reported about in July 2013. Microsoft also worked with the NSA on giving them a backdoor into SkyDrive, their cloud-based storage service. At the time, I reported: "Microsoft worked tightly with the NSA in order to give them access, with the NSA reporting on April 8 of this year that the Redmond-based slave of the NSA built PRISM access into SkyDrive that removes the need for the NSA analysts to request permission to search SkyDrive".

Intel releases its last ever Itanium processor
Intel first launched its Itanium processor back in 2001, with chipzilla hoping its 64-bit processor would destroy the x86 dominance over the decades before it - but yeah, that didn't happen and now Intel has killed Itanium.
Before it's officially dead, Intel has pushed out a final Itanium 9700 series processor family that are the end of a failed era. Itanium co-creator HP and its enterprise arm HPE will be the last major customer of Itanium processors, with its Integrity i6 servers to receive the improved hardware, but other than that - Itanium is dead.
Itanium launched with a huge marketing campaign where Intel expected its exciting (at least at the time) 64-bit processor to take a huge chunk out of the massive wave of x86, aiming for high-end servers and workstations before cloud computing was even a thing. The first Itanium processors were power hungry, and then AMD decided it would launch consumer 64-bit processors in x86 form, disrupting Intel's plans.

NVIDIA CEO says GeForce is like a game console
NVIDIA CEO and founder Jen-Hsun Huang has compared GeForce graphics cards to consoles in a recent post-earnings investor Q&A, when he was probed on a question regarding NVIDIA seeing the numbers of gamers and GeForce products growing, and whether they could continue to push out premium products.
Huang replied with: "The average selling price of the NVIDIA GeForce is about a third of a game console. That's the way to think about it. That's the simple math. People are willing to spend $200, $300, $400, $500 for a new game console, and the NVIDIA GeForce GPU PC gaming card is on average far less".
He continued: "There are people who just absolutely demand the best. And the reason for that is because they're driving a monitor or they're driving multiple monitors at a refresh rate well beyond a TV. So if you have a 4K or you want 120 hertz or some people are even driving it to 200 hertz, those kind of displays demand a lot more horsepower to drive than an average television, whether it's 1080p or 4K at 60 frames a second or 30 frames a second. And so the amount of horsepower they need is great. But that's just because they just really love their rig, and they're surrounded in it, and they just want the best. But the way to think about that is ultimately that's the opportunity for us. I think GeForce is a game console. And the right way to think about that is at an equivalent ASP of some $200 - $300, that's probably potentially an opportunity ahead for GeForce".
