EA teases new Titanfall games
UPDATE: EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirms a new premium Titanfall game is coming on 2019...but it'll have a twist. We're betting it's Titanfall VR.
"Respawn also plans to launch a premium game this year that is a new twist on the Titanfall universe. More to come on that in the months ahead," Wilson said in an earnings call.
Respawn's explosively popular Apex Legends F2P battle royale game isn't the end of the Titanfall series, and publisher EA teases more "experiences" set in the sci-fi universe.
Capcom's profit spikes by 108%
Capcom records massive earnings on the backs of strong Monster Hunter: World performance.
New financial reports show that Japanese games-maker Capcom is doing very, very well. Monster Hunter: World has now sold more than 11 million copies and is a money-making machine for the company, whose Fiscal Q3'18 and nine-month revenues spiked from the MORPG's revenues and catalog sales. First we'll take a look at the nine-month earnings and then follow up with Q3'18.
In the nine-month period from April to December 2018, Capcom's total profits are up a whopping 108% year-over-year to 9.180 billion yen, driven by consistent strong sales and recurring revenues from catalog games and Monster Hunter: World. Operating income, or revenue generated after wages, development costs, and costs of goods sold are deducted, surged by 92% YoY to 13.461 billion yen. Net sales rose nearly 30% and raked in the lion's share of Capcom's gaming segment earnings with 61.270 billion yen.

Apex Legends could eat into Anthem's most important metric
Respawn may have done with a free-to-play battle royale game what EA wanted to do with Anthem.
Respawn's new Apex Legends 60-player battle royale game is already a success. The Titanfall-based shooter has only been out a day and is being hailed as a must-play FPS by gamers all over. Engagement is high thanks to its accessibility--it had over 1 million players in just 8 hours--and strong monetization could follow. But what about Anthem, EA's big new shared-worlds shooter?
Any live service game lives or dies based on engagement. Failed online games die because the playerbase dries up and no one's spending cash. Some, like Destiny 2, go through many changes and stave off death by reinventing themselves. Some games like Fallout 76 falter out of the gate due to mismanagement. Apex Legends' rising fame could pose a threat to Anthem's engagement simply because gamers could keep playing the F2P shooter instead of diving into a $64 premium game. All games compete with each other in this way (Epic Games' Fortnite, for example, competes with all others), but seldom do we see publishers smush together two live games that could disrupt one another in such a short span.

Titanfall battle royale Apex Legends is already a success
Respawn's big new free-to-play battle royale game launched today and it's already an engagement monster.
Apex Legends, the new 60-player battle royale shooter with Overwatch-like heroes, has amassed a massive 1 million unique players in just 8 hours. Respawn studio head Vince Zampella confirmed the news on Twitter: "I'm so overwhelmed right now. Apex Legends broke a million unique players in under 8 hours. Thank you so much for showing up and being part of this with Respawn you are amazing!!"
These are huge launch numbers for any F2P game and EA is likely quite happy about all the positive buzz floating around Apex Legends. Respawn's free-to-play gambit has paid off, and is actually built on the remnants Titanfall 3, which is no longer in development. The FPS has all the trademarks of a Titanfall game: slick action, fluid combat, and explosive visuals all wrapped around iconic characters with unique abilities.

Switch made 85% of Nintendo's nine-month FY18 earnings
Following a massive holiday sales spike, the Nintendo Switch is dominating earnings and driving sales revenues to strong heights.
After scanning Nintendo's latest nine-month financial earnings, the numbers told me something interesting (as they're wont to do). The Switch isn't just making most of the company's quarterly revenue, but a disproportionate amount of it, eclipsing other segments by quite a bit. Switch hardware and software earned 849 trillion yen in the nine month period from April to December 2018, or 85% of Nintendo's total net sales revenues of 997 trillion yen ($3.7 billion). The handheld-console hybrid made 88% of total dedicated video game segment sales.
Nine month Switch platform earnings are up 30% year-over-year, and Switch software and hardware only made 44% of last year's nine month sales revenues.

Netflix paid $9m for Ted Bundy movie starring Zac Efron
Netflix are following up with the currently extremely hot serial killer content that has been recently released onto their platform. The streaming service has now been reported to of purchased the upcoming Ted Bundy movie 'Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile'.
The Hollywood Reporter has come out and said that Netflix have purchased 'Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile', a Ted Bundy movie starring actor Zac Efron for $9 million dollars. If you are unaware of who Ted Bundy is he was American's most notorious serial killer, he kidnapped, raped and murdered 30+ women and was known for his charming persona and psychological intellect. Zac Efron will be starring Ted Bundy and Lily Collins will be taking the role of Bundy's girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer.
The movie who is directed by Jeff Berlinger will be concentrating on the perspective of Bundy's girlfriend. This deal from Netflix certainly does make sense considering the streaming service recently added "Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes". That four-part documentary series which is also directed by Jeff Berlinger recently received some controversy surrounding Bundy's acclaimed 'hotness' despite his disgusting history. Check that story out here.

Crypto exchange CEO dies with passwords to $190 million lost
Gerald Cotten, the founder and CEO of cryptocurrency exchange QuadrigaCX died from complications with Crohn's disease on December 9, 2018 while travelling in India. In his passing, a huge $190 million in various cryptocurrencies is locked away as Cotten was the only one with the passwords.
Cotten was the "sole officer and director" of QuadrigaCX, and has the $190 million stuck behind his encrypted laptop without anyone knowing the password. The news comes from a debt filing from QuadrigaCX to which his widow Jennifer Robertson said in an affidavit that "Gerry died due to complications with Crohn's disease on December 9, 2018 while travelling in India, where he was opening an orphanage to provide a home and safe refuge for children in need".
QuadrigaCX has since experienced major issues of pumping out customers' funds to their accounts, with the crypto exchange saying it is going through "significant financial issues". The company added that it has "very significant cryptocurrency reserves", but it couldn't locate or secure said servers. So effectively, QuadrigaCX's CEO died with the customers' money on his encrypted laptop. All of those cold wallet private keys are lost.

Resident Evil 2 sold 1 million copies each day for 3 days
Capcom just recently launched their remake of one of the most famous titles in the horror gaming genre, Resident Evil 2. The title has seen quite a high level of success, but how much exactly?
Capcom, the developer and publisher for the title have revealed the sales statistics for the remastered game and according to their announcement Resident Evil 2 Remake managed to sell 1 million copies each day for three days. The official statement from Capcom reads as follows; "Resident Evil 2 released on January 25th, 2019 - Achieved more than 3 million units sold in first week (as of January 298th, 2019)".
While the Resident Evil 2 Remake may not equate the immense popularity and sales of Capcom's other big name titles such as 'Monster Hunter: World', the horror classic still has managed to make for a success in Capcom's books. Especially considering that Resident Evil 2 is a remake of an older game, a horror title, and was released just after the Christmas period. All of these reasons I just mentioned would usually defer gamers from picking up a copy, but it seems that Resident Evil 2 is an exception. Resident Evil 2 is currently available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Smash Ultimate Piranha Plant bugs can't be found by Nintendo
Many Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fans are quite upset with Nintendo's efforts regarding the recent v2.0.0 update to come to Smash Ultimate. Many players are reporting issues with the now live update and despite this, Nintendo has said they cannot find any issues.
At the beginning of February, Nintendo released an update to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. As expected, the update contained numerous gameplay changes, tweaks to characters in the forms of buffs, nerfs and balancing. The update also contained the new fighter 'Piranha Plant' and was free to those players who pre-ordered the title. Unfortunately after the release of this update many users have said there save files have been corrupted after the use of Piranha Plant in Smash's 'All-Star' mode.
The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate community was loud enough to get the Big N's attention, and now has issued a statement to Newsweek in response to the claims surrounding the update. Nintendo has said they cannot find any issues, but will continue looking; "We are aware that some users are posting about possible issues with the latest Super Smash Bros. Ultimate update. After extensive testing, Nintendo has not been able to confirm that there is an issue, although we will continue to investigate and monitor the situation." It is very unfortunate that this update has caused many players to lose hours of gameplay footage, so hopefully Nintendo can issue out a hotfix once the problem has been located.

EA files Jade Empire trademark, remaster on the way?
BioWare made Jade Empire as an Xbox exclusive back in 2007 and then later ported to the PC and published by Microsoft Game Studios, after that it was ported to both Android and iOS in 2016.
EA has just filed a trademark for Jade Empire, but we don't know why. We could expect Jade Empire Remastered in the near future, especially given how well remasters of gamers' favorite titles, when remastered well, sell. Look at Resident Evil 2 and its 3 million copies sold so far, a remaster and tweak of Jade Empire could spell success for EA.
We could expect BioWare to be working on Jade Empire 2 and if that's the case, there are going to be millions of gamers that are excited about that. For those who don't know about Jade Empire, you control a character dubbed a "Spirit Monk" who like Neo in The Matrix, learns a bunch of martial arts styles and techniques that helps you battle enemies in hand-to-hand combat, or using weapons from Chinese culture, as well as magic.

Apex Legends has its own Battle Pass, launches in March
Respawn Entertainment made the surprise announcement and release of Apex Legends that shocked the gaming world this week, securing a bunch of influencers and game streamers like Dr Disrespect to hype the battle royale game.

The Division 2 'much more replayable once you hit endgame'
The Division 2 isn't far away with Ubisoft beginning to hype the game up a little bit more before its debut next month, with Ubisoft set to host a beta of The Division 2 that will attempt to squash the hype EA is building for its luke warm release of Anthem on February 22.
During an interview with EDGE magazine and Ubisoft Massive lead designer Keith Evans, we are finding out that the developer learned a lot of lessions from the original The Division, which will be implemented into its sequel. Evans said that they wanted to make the world of The Division 2 much more replayable, and over the course of three years this has been a main goal of Ubisoft Massive.
Evans explained: "It's definitely been a journey. I joined the team a little bit before the launch of the first game, so I was involved in leading the design on contributions to endgame over all three years. And the main lesson we've learned is that players kind of devour content. So the biggest thing that we've done design wise on The Division 2 is to start with that mindset. It's not just about that level 1-30 journey, it's not just about reclaiming this beautiful 1:1 version of a city. It's about making sure there's a ton of interesting things to discover, and that the world is much more replayable once you hit endgame".

Respawn says it Titanfall 3 is NOT in development
Now that we are aware of what Apex Legends is, developer Respawn Entertainment has come out and confirmed that the team is not working on a new Titanfall game, as much as some gamers want it to happen.
Apex Legends producer Drew McCoy talked with Eurogamer about the new battle royale title that Respawn is working on, confirming: "The world thinks we're making Titanfall 3 and we're not - [Apex Legends] is what we're making. We were just like, 'Let the game speak for itself.' It's the most powerful antidote to potential problems. We're doing a free to play game, with essentially loot boxes, after we were bought by EA, and it's not Titanfall 3. It's the perfect recipe for a marketing plan to go awry, so why have that - let's just ship the game and let players play".
So there we have it: Titanfall 3 is not in development at all. There's the defense that EA said in 2017 that it was working on more Titanfall with Respawn, but since Apex Legends is a game that exists in the world of Titanfall, EA didn't really lie. Kotaku has an insider that says Titanfall 3 was definitely in development, and has theories that Apex Legends is a game being released in-between the next-gen Titanfall 3 which could drop on next-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

NVIDIA DLSS: up to 50% more performance in 3DMark Port Royal
NVIDIA has just announced that DLSS support has hit 3DMark's first real-time ray tracing benchmark Port Royal, with UL releasing a new update to 3DMark Port Royal that enables DLSS benchmarking.
There's now a DLSS feature test in Port Royal that will run and compare performance and image quality with and without NVIDIA's new DLSS feature enabled. Port Royal benchmarks with TAA (Temporal Anti-Aliasing) which looks great but can sometimes look blurry, while NVIDIA's DLSS technology harnesses the power of deep learning and AI to provide a cleaner-looking image with up to 50% more performance which is simply incredible.
The first pass of the DLSS feature test will render Port Royal with DLSS disabled to get baseline performance before it moves onto rendering Port Royal at a reduced resolution, but with DLSS enabled that creates frames at the target output resolution.
