Streamer beats 5 Soulsborne games with no hits by enemies

Jak Connor | Gaming | Mar 22, 2019 3:00 AM CDT

A Twitch streamer posed a monumental task to himself, 'beating all the Soulsborne games without taking a single hit'. Long story short, he did it and hugged his dog shortly afterwards.

Streamer beats 5 Soulsborne games with no hits by enemies

Fancy deciding to not only beat one Souls game without taking a hit, but instead taking on five of them, and if you take any form of damage that isn't self-imposed you restart back at the first game. Well, that is exactly what The Happy Hob decided to do in what he has called the "God Run" of all of the Dark Souls games, Demon Souls and Bloodborne.

The Happy Hob beat the games in this order; Bloodborne, Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls, Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 3. The full five-game roulette took the streamer over 16 hours to complete, the final moments are captured in the above video. We can see the last remaining 47 seconds of the Dark Souls III final boss fight, after Hob beats the boss he lets out a well deserved cry "Soulsborne no-hit run! We did it!". Shortly afterwards he begins to cry with happiness and hugs his dog. Now that is pure a mechanical god if I have ever seen one.

Cuphead, the indie hit success has had its co-creator voice his desires of having both Cuphead and Mugman joining the Super Smash Bros Ultimate fighting roster.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Cuphead's should join the roster

After yesterdays announcement of Cupheads coming to the Nintendo Switch with Mircosoft's Xbox LIVE features, some more information has come out from the games co-creator. While at 2019's Game Developers Conference, GameInformer got a chance to speak with Nintendo's Manager of Publisher and developer relations, Kirk Scott. Scott was also joined by Cuphead's co-creator, Jared Moldenhauer and they begun to discuss the possibility of Cuphead's joining the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster.

Here is what Moldenhauer had to say about the matter; "I've dreamed of Smash Bros. [Cuphead and Mugman] belong in there. So basically if fans want it, I couldn't see how Nintendo wouldn't want the fans to get what they wanted. I think they would because they support their fans a lot . . . So if Nintendo was keeping their fans happy, then I'd be more than pleased to make that the easiest transition. Just a piece of paper, we don't need anything. You can have those characters make an appearance."

Digital-only Xbox One has 1TB HDD, includes three games

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Mar 21, 2019 7:47 PM CDT

Microsoft is making a digital-only Xbox that's designed as a low-cost gateway to its lucrative services, and sources say it'll release in May.

Digital-only Xbox One has 1TB HDD, includes three games

Sources tell Windows Central that Microsoft's digital-only Xbox One S (dubbed the rather awful Xbox One S All-Digital Edition) will release May 7, 2019. The system will come with a 1TB hard drive and three first-party games that're all designed for long-term monetization: Forza Horizon 3, Sea of Thieves, and Minecraft. The games won't be pre-loaded and must be downloaded with codes.

The new disc-less system is Microsoft's attempt to push gamers permanently into its billion-dollar digital empire. The console isn't an underpowered box though: it has the exact same slim frame as the retail Xbox One S, and the exact same specs. It's not a hardware refresh. The only thing that's different is its missing disc drive, and a lower retail cost. Nothing's been confirmed, but we expect the digital-only Xbox One S to retail for $150 or thereabouts.

Epic won't let 'crappy games' on its store

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Mar 21, 2019 6:41 PM CDT

Unlike Steam with its laissez faire policies, Epic Games says it won't let just any game onto its platform. Your game has to be good to show up on the Epic Store.

Epic won't let 'crappy games' on its store

Epic has caught lots of flak for its exclusivity deals that pulled major PC games like The Division 2, Metro: Exodus, and more recently Control and The Other Worlds from Steam. The latter three had been pre-orderable on Steam for months before the switch, leading many to consider the Epic Store as anti-consumer.

Why the jump to a fledgling platform? The Epic Store is built on the Epic Launcher, which engages Fortnite's 250 million-strong userbase. Plus there's a nice monetary incentive. Publishers and devs are enticed by the Epic Store's 88% revenue split, but that offer won't extend to all games.

Steam's library UI is getting a makeover

Steam's library pane is about to be get more visually appealing and user-friendly.

Steam's library UI is getting a makeover

As Epic's new storefront aims to copy Steam's best features, Valve too wants to evolve Steam's look and feel. At GDC 2019, the games titan gave a preview of what Steam's new library UI will look like. The visuals are more reminiscent of Twitch's games launcher interface and have panes for each game. There's a recent games section, one for updates, and vertical slices for your complete library. It's pleasing to the eyes compared to Steam's current UI setup.

New Steam features include an advanced search option that lets you type in tags like "RPG" or "shooter" to narrow down your games. This will be helpful for those with massive backlogs. We may even be able to make custom columns to sort and clump games together.

Google Stadia's save sharing feature is revolutionary

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Mar 21, 2019 3:25 PM CDT

By bringing AAA games to any device without downloads or console purchases, Google's new Stadia streaming service wants to disrupt the world of gaming. But there's one feature that really stands out as a social game-changer: save state sharing.

Google Stadia's save sharing feature is revolutionary

Google Stadia makes some big promises. The company wants to stream high-def PC-quality games to phones, laptops and TVs in 2019. But what about engagement? Any digital platform needs strong engagement to keep players "stuck" to the network. Google has a plan for that, too. It'll use its potent YouTube framework to create easy clip sharing and broadcasts--subscribers can even launch games right from a YouTube trailer.

But that's not it. Stadia will let users share their in-game moments in a different way with state share. Here's how it works: Let's say you beat a tough boss, and want to challenge a friend to beat your progress or your time. You can create a link to your singleplayer game save and share with a friend, who can click it and enter your game session remotely.

Sixth Goku iteration added to Dragon Ball FighterZ

Jak Connor | Gaming | Mar 21, 2019 4:00 AM CDT

Bandai Namco has decided that they simply can't get enough of one of their favorite mascots, as yet another iteration of Goku will be added to the Dragon Ball FighterZ roster.

Sixth Goku iteration added to Dragon Ball FighterZ

At the moment there is already five different playable versions of Goku that are in Dragon Ball FighterZ, so how about one more? Arc System Works seems to agree, as they will soon be adding the Dragon Ball GT version of Kid Goku to the roster. Kid Goku (GT) will be apart of the FighterZ Pass 2 and will be arriving with his very own set of moves so at least he will feel unique.

Just like in the TV show, Kid Goku will be arriving with his very iconic power pole and will be able to unleash the power of the Super Kamehameha, Reverse Kamehameha and Super Ultra Spirit Bomb. The announcement also teases that there is one last secret move that is yet to be revealed. If I was to speculate what this move is, I would assume it would be Kid Goku's ultimate move. What move is it specifically? I think it could either be the 'Dragon Fist' attack that was used on Super Android 17 in the TV show, or the 'penetrate' move that was used on King Piccolo in the original Dragon Ball TV show.

Epic Games announces $100 million grant program

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Mar 21, 2019 1:31 AM CDT

Epic Games is throwing some serious benjamins around to entice developers from all backgrounds to use Unreal Engine, with the Fortnite creator announcing a new "MegaGrant Program" that really started back in 2015.

Epic Games announces $100 million grant program

Epic CEO Tim Sweeney said this new grant program is a way of giving back to the community in the wake of Fortnite's mega success, with the grant varying between $5000 and $500,000. It's not just about game development either, as Unreal Engine is used in countless fields so the grant program will seed out money to teams who make tools that integrate UE4, such as a CAD program.

Media and entertainment creators that use Unreal Engine can apply, with the same going for students and schools that use UE within their curriculum. Creators keep their IP, as Epic is giving out the money with "no-strings-attached" meaning the company will not have any power over what content comes from its grants.

Smash Bros. pro players Tyler "Marss" Martins and Justin "Wishes" Magnetti went head to head in winners side of the bracket to decide who would take a spot in finals. Unreal Engine 4 ray tracing tech demo 'Troll' teased at GDC

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Mar 20, 2019 11:30 PM CDT

Epic Games is having the time of its life at the Game Developers Conference this year, unveiling the future of Unreal Engine with what seems like the closest we've been to photo-realistic graphics in Unreal Engine yet. The new 'Troll' short film was debuted at GDC 2019, which you can check out below:

Unreal Engine 4 ray tracing tech demo 'Troll' teased at GDC

Troll is a new short film from Goodbye Kansas and Deep Forest Films and features a Shrek-like princess in all-CG powered by Unreal Engine, with Epic's first debut of its new physics engine. We're looking at full real-time graphics here with real-time ray tracing, cinematic-quality lighting, soft shadows, and reflections all being done on Unreal Engine.

All of this is powered by a single NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti graphics card which is impressive, too. This is a short film and not a game, so don't expect a huge world from what we're seeing here, but to run cinematic-quality graphics like this in real-time on a single graphics card is damn good.

NVIDIA: Turing GPUs sold 45% more than Pascal during launch

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Mar 20, 2019 10:28 PM CDT

NVIDIA has released some interesting stats on their GPU adoption, with new numbers releasing during their recent Investor Day event detailing Turing, Pascal, and older-gen GPU adoption.

NVIDIA: Turing GPUs sold 45% more than Pascal during launch

The company has said that Turing GPUs have sold 45% more than Pascal GPUs in the first 8 weeks of launch, and considering the harsh reception and huge prices of the GeForce RTX cards, it hasn't stopped NVIDIA from selling a bunch of them. But how much penetration has Turing had into gamers' PCs?

According to NVIDIA's own graph we can see that just 2% of NVIDIA's consumers have upgraded to a Turing GPU, while 50% are using Pascal (GTX 10/16 series) and 48% are using older-gen GeForce cards. Close to 90% of GeForce GTX 10 series owners that are upgrading are grabbing higher-end Turing-based GPU offerings, too. You can see that most people that have a GTX 1080 or GTX 1080 Ti are upgrading to a new RTX 2080 or RTX 2080 Ti, which is interesting to see.

It's worldwide. It's the first shooter with a huge female population.
