Borderlands series sells over 60 million copies, generates $1 billion
The Borderlands franchise has sold a whopping 60 million copies worldwide since 2009, Gearbox has confirmed.
Following Embracer's acquisition of Gearbox for $363 million, a new company profile reveals some interesting stats on the developer and its games. The Borderlands IP has sold over 60 million copies to date across four mainline games, and has generated over $1 billion in revenues. Roughly 1/6th of these sales came from Borderlands 3, which has now crested 10 million shipments globally. In total, Gearbox Entertainment's games have sold 100 million units combined.
With numbers like these, it's no surprise that Borderlands 4 is in development. Gearbox could receive a huge $1 billion bonus if it delivers Borderlands 4 in the next six years. Details are sparse, but we know 2K Games will publish Borderlands 4, and it's possibly being developed with Unreal Engine 5.

Report: Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 source code auctioned for $7 million
Hackers reportedly make good on their promise to sell CD Projekt RED's game source code after a vicious ransomware attack.
A bit ago, hackers broke CD Projekt RED's cybersecurity protection and stole precious source code files for The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Gwent, and the RED Engine itself. Hackers demanded CDPR pay a ransom in Bitcoin to get the files back, but the developer says it "will not give in to or negotiate" with the hackers and has prepared for the documents to be leaked out.
Now it appears the data has been sold in an auction for as much as $7 million. The info comes from dark web watchdog KELA, an intelligence group who has a proven track record in chronicling these kinds of cyber crimes. KELA was able to download and attain some of the files and they are indeed genuine:

DICE LA working on a Battlefield game, Battlefield 6 battle royale?
DICE LA is officially working on a new Battlefield game, which sees the developer either helping out with Battlefield 6 development or it's a separate entity to Battlefield 6 -- something like a DICE LA developed battle royale mode for Battlefield 6, for example.
It all started with DICE LA senior design director Justin Wiebe tweeting out some cryptic tweets about a new project that he and his team at DICE LA were working on. Wiebe tweeted: "Any guesses what EA owned franchise I'm thrilled to be working on now?" and then people began guessing and he shot a few of the answers down.
But it was above tweet where he revealed DICE LA is working on a new Battlefield game, and he is gushing about it. Wiebe continued: "It's wondrous I get to work on a game I fell in love with almost 20 years ago! The sandbox play of 1942 was just amazing for its time. I look forward to hearing from all of you what you loved and hope for in a future BF game".

ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 user flashes vBIOS, makes its RTX 3080 faster
ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 gaming laptop pack NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 3080 laptop GPU, but with a default TGP of 115W. Well, some users are flashing their laptops with custom vBIOSes and driving the TGP up to 150W.
A few users on the Baidu forums have said that they've flashed their ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 gaming laptop from the GeForce RTX 3080 laptop GPU with its 115W TGP up to the GeForce RTX 3080 laptop GPU at 150W. Increasing the power limit should let the GPU drive more power through it, thus driving the GPU clock up -- and improving performance, which is what this is all about.
If you go to the GeForce RTX 3080 mobile GPU benchmark scores for 3DMark Time Spy you'll see that the top results are from this laptop -- powered by AMD's new Ryzen 9 5900HX processor and the aforementioned NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 laptop GPU with its custom vBIOS.

Bitcoin mining uses more electricity than Netherlands and Argentina
Bitcoin mining is chewing through a considerable amount of power worldwide, especially given the current bull run with Bitcoin hitting new all-time highs and sitting just below $50,000 per Bitcoin.
But now the attention is turning to the electricity cost of mining Bitcoin, with Cambridge researchers estimating that global Bitcoin mining consumes around 121 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity per year. This is more than some very big countries, where if Bitcoin was a country it would be in the top 30 energy users worldwide.
Bitcoin mining uses more electricity than countries like Argentina, the Netherlands, and even the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Michel Rauchs, researcher at The Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance explained to the BBC: "It is really by design that Bitcoin consumes that much electricity. This is not something that will change in the future unless the Bitcoin price is going to significantly go down".

AMD and Intel urge Biden administration to fund their manufacturing
We all know how impossible it is to find any of the new electronic and gaming products released from the last 6 months or so: AMD's new Ryzen 5000 series CPUs and Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs, NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs, and the new Sony PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Xbox Series X/S consoles.
New smartphones are harder to buy and will continue to get harder to buy, which will involve the likes of Qualcomm while Micron provides memory and flash products for all of their respective products.
These companies are now urging President Joe Biden "urging" him as Reuters reports, to provide them with "substantial funding for incentives for semiconductor manufacturing" as part of the Biden administration's economic recovery and infrastructure plans.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie speeds towards April 8, 2022 release
The original Sonic the Hedgehog movie was announced back in 2016, hyped throughout 2018-2019 and delayed in May 2019 because of the super-bad CGI that every person on the planet hated.
The team went back to the drawing board on the design of Sonic and the CGI for the movie, and Sonic the Hedhehog released months later to much success. So much so that a sequel was quickly greenlit (not the Green Zone) and now a firm release date for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has been teased: April 8, 2022.
Sonic the Hedgehog broke video game movie records, hauling $100 million after release with $57 million in box office receipts just in its 3-day opening weekend. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has a new movie, and Tails will be joining Sonic in his new adventures in 2022.

Xiaomi reveals new 75-inch 4K 120Hz QLED TV with HDMI 2.1 connectivity
Xiaomi has just unveiled its gigantic new 75-inch Mi TV Q1 flagship 4K HDR TV, boasting a 75-inch panel with both Dolby Division and HDR10+ technologies as well as Android 10.
The new Xiaomi 75-inch Mi TV Q1 will have full 4K 120Hz support through its HDMI 2.1 port, with the new TV coming in at around $1550 or so -- much cheaper than the Samsung Q80T it is on the same level (if not better) which costs $2500.
Emory Babb, a product marketing manager at Xiaomi told TechRadar: "The TV we had in mind was the Q80T 75-inch, as far as specs go. We like to think we compete pretty closely with them - but we're separating ourselves by offering the HDR10+ and Dolby Vision as well. It's the TV we'd compare ourselves to the most - but at a more affordable price".

Apple reportedly teams with TSMC on ultra-advanced micro OLED tech
Anyone that owns or has seen one of LG's flagship OLED TVs knows that OLED is truly the next generation of TV technology, but it looks like Apple is now working with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. on "ultra-advanced display technology at a secretive facility in Taiwan".
Ultra-advanced micro OLED display technology to be precise, which would see a next-gen display built directly onto chip wafers. Why? This would be for augmented reality devices, or AR glasses. Right now we have traditional LCD screen technology that is used in billions of TVs, smartphones, tablets and everything in between -- and then we have OLED at the other end with flagship smartphones and TVs.
This new technology will allow the displays to be built directly onto the wafer itself, so that the display can be far thinner and smaller -- all while using less power -- making the new "ultra-advanced" micro OLED display technology the perfect choice for Apple's future AR glasses.

Horizon Zero Dawn on the PC can drop down to 128 x 72 resolution
We live in an age where not even 4K 60FPS is the limit, but rather 4K 120FPS and even 8K 60FPS are both options now -- but what about the low, low res of 72p? Never heard of yet? Yeah, well you can run that 128 x 72 pixel resolution on the PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn.
Yeah, it's a hot mess, but you knew it would be. But why, why was Horizon Zero Dawn run at just 72p on the PC? THe reason is that YouTuber Kryzzp noticed that he could run the game at 128 x 72, during a run of budget graphics card testing where he used the NVIDIA GT 710 and it could barely run it at 72p.
Check it out in better YouTube quality, and in full:
