NVIDIA's new GeForce 465.89 drivers support ray tracing in DIRT 5

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Mar 30, 2021 7:48 PM CDT

AMD had its new Radeon drivers release around 24 hours ago enabling DXR ray tracing support in DIRT 5 for its RDNA-powered Radeon GPUs and now it's NVIDIA's turn for some new drivers to do the same for GeForce GPU owners.

NVIDIA's new GeForce 465.89 drivers support ray tracing in DIRT 5

NVIDIA's newly-released GeForce Game Ready 465.89 WHQL drivers add support for DIRT 5's new ray tracing update, as well as new games in Outriders, Evil Genius 2: World Domination, and the KINGDOM HEARTS series on the Epic Games Store. Not only that, but it adds Resizable BAR support for GeForce RTX 30 series desktop and notebooks GPUs.

We also have some SLI profiles for Shenmue III and The Medium, both of which will only have SLI support on NVIDIA Turing GPUs -- so the GeForce RTX 20 series with the flagship GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. There's also beta support for virtualization on GeForce GPUs which is an interesting and unexpected thing from NVIDIA with these drivers.

ASRock Radeon RX 6900 XT OC Formula graphics card teased

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Mar 30, 2021 6:17 PM CDT

It looks like ASRock is getting ready to unleash a new high-end custom Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card, with the new ASRock Radeon RX 6900 XT OC Formula being teased and should be detailed very soon.

ASRock Radeon RX 6900 XT OC Formula graphics card teased

The new ASRock Radeon RX 6900 XT OC Formula rocks a triple-fan cooler, triple-slot design, a behemoth-sized heat sink, and triple 8-pin PCIe power connectors. We should expect the ASRock Radeon RX 6900 XT OC Formula graphics card to be the flagship custom Radeon RX 6900 XT once it is unveiled and released.

There's not much else known on the card, but VideoCardz expects more details on the ASRock Radeon RX 6900 XT OC Formula later on today so we'll update when we can. The only things we can see here apart from the cooler and PCIe power connectors is the styling -- with a black and green design with an interestingly styled cooler. I definitely want to see what the backplate is like on the ASRock Radeon RX 6900 XT OC Formula, too.

New Witcher game to enter development in 2022 with new RED Engine tech

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Mar 30, 2021 5:33 PM CDT

A new Witcher game is planned to enter development in 2022 alongside Cyberpunk 2077's multiplayer, CD Projekt RED said today.

New Witcher game to enter development in 2022 with new RED Engine tech

CD Projekt RED wants to become more agile and improve how it makes games. Under a new strategy dubbed RED 2.0, the studio aims to create an infrastructure where it can simultaneously develop two AAA RPGs at the same time. Traditionally, CD Projekt has principally developed one game at a time. The plan will go into effect next year, and in 2022, CDPR will start simultaneously working on new games in both The Witcher and Cyberpunk franchises.

CD Projekt wants to unify its future games under the newly-optimized RED Engine technology that powers Cyberpunk 2077. For years the studio has been ramping up its internal game-making tools to prepare for next-gen console hardware, facilitating in new technologies like the revamped RED Engine and advanced new motion capture capabilities.

CD Projekt RED's new games will have online elements

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Mar 30, 2021 4:49 PM CDT

CD Projekt RED announces a long-term plan to infuse online elements into all of its future games, but it promises not to compromise singleplayer focus.

CD Projekt RED's new games will have online elements

Online components are coming to CD Projekt's upcoming games, which include new entries in the Witcher and Cyberpunk franchises. The company is ramping up its internal network infrastructure to power online features in new titles, and GOG Galaxy will help wrap everything together into a neat, cohesive ecosystem.

CD Projekt's President Adam Kicinski confirms that online components will be added "where it makes sense," but the developer will still focus primarily on AAA singleplayer RPGs. The plan is for online features to be additive to the core RPG experience, and not serve as the main basis for games (like EA's penchant for live services).

CDPR will now show games closer to launch to manage expectations

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Mar 30, 2021 3:59 PM CDT

Cyberpunk 2077's controversial release has taught CD Projekt RED what not to do. Now it's changing how it communicates and showcases new games.

CDPR will now show games closer to launch to manage expectations

CD Projekt RED promises to avoid potentially misrepresenting its games with early demos and builds. The company today announced its marketing campaigns will be much shorter. CDPR will only show gameplay and deep dive videos of its upcoming projects close to their release. The goal is to promote a game that will actually release--not a concept build that's dramatically different than the final product.

"Going forward, our campaigns will be much shorter. We'll wait until much closer to our game's launch before we start showing things like trailers, demos, or going in-depth about the mechanics," said CD Projekt's SVP of business development. Michal Nowakowski said in a recent presentation.

CD Projekt RED on crunch: 'We're working hard to minimize stress'

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Mar 30, 2021 3:18 PM CDT

CD Projekt RED says it is working hard to combat crunch in its workplace, but also announced it will start developing two major AAA games at the same time starting in 2022.

CD Projekt RED on crunch: 'We're working hard to minimize stress'

Following reports of overwork during Cyberpunk 2077's development, crunch has been a sensitive topic for CD Projekt RED. The developer has become known for its high pedigree of games at the cost of its employees.

Now CD Projekt President Adam Kicinski promises to reverse this trend. The company says it is working hard to create a caring, sustainable workplace where its employees can thrive. The plan includes multiple parts like mental health workshops and support, and even a new developer-appointed representatives that will act as middle-men to help the dev teams communicate directly with the decision-makers on CD Projekt's board of directors.

New Warzone + Modern Warfare update is 133GB on PC

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Mar 30, 2021 1:20 PM CDT

Call of Duty's Big Three have absurdly demanding install sizes; Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare take up over 150GB on consoles, and that's without Warzone's installed. Now Treyarch is doing something about it.

New Warzone + Modern Warfare update is 133GB on PC

After months of waiting, Treyarch is finally shrinking install sizes for Cold War, Modern Warfare, and Warzone. The new Season Two Reloaded update will compress data through a new optimization system and save gamers up to 33GB of hard drive space. There's just one catch: Gamers have to download a 50GB+ patch before their existing installs will shrink.

The Season Two Reloaded patch is rolling out for Cold War, Modern Warfare, and Warzone. The update is pretty big for Warzone players, and clocks in at 52GB-57GB on consoles and 54GB on PC. If you want to update both Modern Warfare and Warzone on PC, the install size is doubled to a huge 133GB.

Tundra Labs doubles Tundra Tracker Kickstarter goals in six hours

Kevin Carbotte | Extended Reality (XR) | Mar 29, 2021 11:05 PM CDT

Tundra Labs launched its Kickstarter campaign for its Tundra Tracker SteamVR tracking pucks on March 29, and within a matter of hours, the company had raised more than double its original goal. With 59 more days to go, this fundraising campaign is off to a roaring start.

Tundra Labs doubles Tundra Tracker Kickstarter goals in six hours

Tundra Labs revealed the Tundra Trackers, an alternative to HTC's Vive Tracker hardware, late last year. Tundra Trackers a smaller and lighter than even HTC's newly revised Vive Tracker 3.0. These smaller trackers also sip less power than Vive Trackers, giving them longer battery life to the tune of up to 7-hours of use between charges.

The appetite for Tundra Labs' tiny tracking pucks is significant. The company was looking for $250,000 to fund the manufacturing of the hardware. The Kickstarter campaign secured pledges for more than $500,000 from backers in less than six hours.

Samsung's next-gen Galaxy S22 Ultra concept teased with 200MP camera

Anthony Garreffa | Mobile Devices | Mar 29, 2021 10:30 PM CDT

Samsung's current flagship Galaxy S21 Ultra already has an incredible camera, as my personal daily driver smartphone it has an amazing camera -- but the Galaxy S22 Ultra might pack a huge 200MP sensor that will take things to the next level.

Samsung's next-gen Galaxy S22 Ultra concept teased with 200MP camera

A new Galaxy S22 Ultra concept has been teased by Technizo Concept where it looks identical to the current Galaxy S21 Ultra and its bulky camera-packed rear bump, but with a gigantic almost comically big 200-megapixel camera. The reason for the size is that the huge 200MP sensor would allow a huge amount of light in, allowing for some ultra-detailed images in some super-dark lighting conditions.

The concept also has Samsung's infamous S-Pen working with the Galaxy S22 Ultra concept smartphone, with the current Galaxy S21 Ultra packing S-Pen support I'd be disappointed to see Samsung suddenly nix it in the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The huge sensor would look stupidly big on the Galaxy S22 Ultra at first, but boy would it me a talking point if that turned out to be real.

Valve working on 2 new Half-Life games to follow-up on Half-Life: Alyx

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Mar 29, 2021 10:00 PM CDT

We started hearing about Valve's new game codename Citadel back in July 2019, with Valve leaker Tyler McVicker who has teased that Valve is working on not 1 but 2 new Half-Life games.

Valve working on 2 new Half-Life games to follow-up on Half-Life: Alyx

The first of which is Valve's new codename Citadel, but there's a totally new game that has been teased as codename HLX. HLX is compeltely new and something we haven't heard of yet, with new teases coming from McVicker that HLX could turn into an evolution of the successful VR-exclusive -- and fantastic -- Half-Life: Alyx from 2019.

It seems Citadel could be a multiplayer RTS-type of gamer where you will be deploying units, resources, and moving things around in augmented and virtual realities between multiple gamers. This sound so awesome, and so very close to the sorts of things I've wished from Valve over the years and talked with my friends about.

TSMC could jack chip prices up by 25% by the end of 2021

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | Mar 29, 2021 9:05 PM CDT

We could be paying even more for our CPUs, GPUs, and every other chip made by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) if rumors of water price increases are correct.

TSMC could jack chip prices up by 25% by the end of 2021

TSMC is rumored to jack prices of wafers up by 25% year-over-year, an increase of $400 for its 12-inch wafer would drive it to new all-time high prices. TSMC is pumping away with its 7nm process node, scaling up production for the new 5nm node and continuing its work on the 3nm process so that mass production can start in the second half 2022.

Research firm IC Insights reports that TSMC pulled in $1634 of revenue per wafer in 2020, so a 25% bump in that across 2021 and beyond will be a nice windfall for TSMC which is jam-packed with orders right now. TSMC is pretty much the number one manufacturing company in the world when it comes to not only its fabs, but also that it is the only company capable of supplying the biggest companies in the world with the most advanced chips ever made -- these companies include AMD, Apple Intel, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and others.

Intel Core i9-11900K hits 5.1GHz on all cores on mid-range motherboard

Anthony Garreffa | Processors | Mar 29, 2021 8:28 PM CDT

Intel is launching its new Rocket Lake-S family of 11th Gen Core processors led by the flagship Core i9-11900K, which when installed into GIGABYTE's mid-range B560 AORUS motherboard can be clocked up to 5.1GHz across all CPU cores.

Intel Core i9-11900K hits 5.1GHz on all cores on mid-range motherboard

The new Core i9-11900K was installed into a GIGABYTE B560 AORUS motherboard, with GIGABYTE releasing a new BIOS that enables support and overclocking for Intel's new Rocket Lake-S chips. The new BIOS also enables higher memory overclocking, with GIGABYTE now supporting up to DDR4-5300MHz memory.

This is quite the achievement as Intel's mid-range B-series motherboards used to suck for overclocking, but now GIGABYTE's unleashing of the new BIOS for their B560 series motherboards means that mid-range users can grab a high-end CPU and overclock the crap out of it. Not only that, but unlocked memory XMP overclocking is also here which is another gold star for GIGABYTE and their mid-range motherboard offerings.
