The autonomous vehicle pulled over by police was a Chevy Bolt operated by Cruise.
San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) officers pulled over the Cruise vehicle as it did not have its lights on. The autonomous vehicle responded as expected, pulling over and waiting for the police officer to walk over to it. After unsuccessfully trying to open the door, the officer walks over to his car, which the Cruise vehicle took as a sign to take off, before pulling over again and putting on its hazard lights, allowing officers to approach it once more.

MIT scientists have managed to reverse hearing loss with new treatment
Frequency Therapeutics, the biotechnology company responsible for the new treatment, was founded in part by scientists from MIT.
The company's approach uses regenerative therapy rather than hearing aids or implants to return hearing to those with hearing loss. Frequency has designed a drug candidate that can be injected into the ear to regenerate progenitor cells within the cochlea, which are cells that come from stem cells and are used to create the hair cells that enable hearing.

New measurements threaten to upend the Standard Model of physics
A study on the new measurement titled "High-precision measurement of the W boson mass with the CDF II detector" has been published in the journal Science.
The W boson is an elementary particle, a fundamental building block of all matter in the universe, which governs the weak force, one of four fundamental forces in nature (the others being the strong force, the electromagnetic force, and the gravitational force). The Standard Model of particle physics describes these elementary particles, but new experiments have shown the mass of the W boson is significantly greater than previously thought.

U.S.' $13.3 billion next-generation aircraft carrier is finally ready
The most expensive aircraft carrier ever made has finally been completed after 13 years.
The USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) is now ready for deployment after construction began in 2009. The usual timeframe for building an aircraft carrier is five years, but the USS Ford was expected to be deployed in 2017, eight years after construction started. However, due to reliability issues with new technologies aboard the carrier, unforeseen delays meant its completion was pushed back by five years.

Ukraine says Russia used an 'unknown chemical substance' on civilians
Ukrainian troops and members of parliament have spoken out to say that Russian troops are now using chemical weapons in Ukraine.
A sub-unit of the National Guard of Ukraine known as the Azoz Regiment claimed on April 11th that an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was used to drop chemicals on civilians in the southeastern city of Mariupol. Symptoms of vestibular-atactic syndrome victims suffer from include dizziness, headaches, nausea, and vomiting.

NASA releases breakthrough research, filling a gap in Earth's climate
NASA has announced it achieved a major milestone in gathering data on Earth's climate through its GEDI mission.
The space agency took to its blog and social media channels to announce the release of a new data product from the Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI), which provides what NASA calls the "first near-global estimate of aboveground forest biomass and the carbon it stores". On NASA's blog, the space agency explains that climate researchers will be able to access the data product and plug in their regions of query to study forest structure and carbon content with increased precision.
GEDI is equipped to the International Space Station (ISS) and is specifically designed to measure Earth's vegetation by creating 3D maps with data acquired by shooting laser pulses at the trees and land below it. NASA writes that the results GEDI has acquired have compared nicely to the forest inventories listed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and U.S. Forest Service Forest Inventory and Analysis data.

Bitcoin price take sharp plummet, hits lowest price since mid-March
Bitcoin's price has taken a tumble as the world's most valuable digital cryptocurrency drops below the $40,000 mark.
After being on an overall steady uptrend since plummeting to $34,000 back in January, Bitcoin has been slowly climbing in price for the majority of 2022 and even managed to slightly end its side-ways momentum by breaking the $37,000 to $45,000 range by hitting $48,000 on March 28. The new milestone in its recovery back to its all-time high of $69,000 seemingly triggered a sell-off on March 30 that has yet to stop.
Since April 5, the price of Bitcoin has been tumbling back down to prices that were seen throughout the last half of February and the majority of March, with the digital currency currently sitting at approximately $39,000 at the time of writing this article. Charlie Silver, CEO & Chairman of Permission.io, was asked by Forbes to comment on the recent price drop and why it has occurred.

Officials confirms explosion on Sun, plasma ball hurled towards Earth
Officials have confirmed that on the surface of the sun, a dead sunspot has exploded, causing a large amount of plasma to be hurled into space.
According to SpaceWeather.com, on April 11, the "corpse" of the sunspot called AR2987 exploded and released a large amount of radiation, which was then followed by a coronal mass ejection (CME), an ejection of solar material or plasma. A sunspot is caused by contortions in the sun's interior magnetic field, much like a rubber band that has been stretched and released. These solar flares launch large amounts of radiation into space in all directions and are often followed by a CME, which is a large concentrated wave of charged particles.
Solar flares reach Earth within 7 minutes, while CMEs usually take about three days to reach Earth. When a CME impacts Earth, the charged particles interact with Earth's oxygen and nitrogen-rich atmosphere it assists in the creation of auroras that are commonly known as the Northern and Southern Lights. Furthermore, if powerful enough, the CME can cause interruptions for GPS coordinates, high-frequency radio degradation, and even impact electric grids.

First solar eclipse of 2022 will happen in April, NASA reveals date
NASA has taken to its blog and social channels to announce the date of the first solar eclipse of 2022 and where it can be seen.
The space agency explains that on April 30, 2022, at 2:45 p.m. EDT the first solar eclipse of 2022 will happen and will be visible across parts of the Antarctic, the southern tip of South America the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. The solar eclipse will reach its maximum at 4:41 p.m. EDT and will end at 6:37 p.m. EDT. So, what is a solar eclipse exactly?
NASA explains that a solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun. A shadow is cast on the Earth during a solar eclipse, and in the coming instance, on April 30, there will be a maximum of 54% of the sun covered by the moon, making this solar eclipse a "partial solar eclipse". The April 30 solar eclipse is the first of two solar eclipses expected to happen in 2022, with the second being on October 25.

US government confirms an interstellar object has crashed into Earth
The United States government has confirmed that an object from interstellar space has crashed into Earth, confirming a theory by two Harvard astronomers.
The confirmation comes from US Space Command, which comes under the Department of Defense and was created to be responsible for military operations in outer space. The US Space Command took to its Twitter account to reveal a previously classified memo that confirms a meteor that was seen off the coast of Papua New Guinea in 2014 was of interstellar origin and now the first interstellar object to have reached Earth.
The two Harvard scientists, theoretical astrophysicist Amir Siraj and his mentor Avi Loeb identified the space rock three years ago, and according to Siraj, it was very difficult to get any information from the US government on the space rocks velocity, etc as it was all classified. The researchers penned a paper that has been awaiting peer review and sent it to The Astrophysical Journal Letters. The paper remains yet to be published but ended up making its way to Joel Mozer, chief scientist of Space Operations Command at the US Space Force.

Researchers uncover a long-standing mystery about the Moon's surface
There is much that researchers don't know about the moon, but every day scientists are taking steps toward developing a deeper understanding of its history.
A team of researchers are attempting to answer one of the biggest questions about the moon, why is the far side of the moon so different from the near side? According to a new study recently published in the journal Science Advances, the difference in the moon's front and back may have been caused by a massive asteroid impact that happened billions of years ago during the moon's early development.
The study's lead author Matt Jones, a Ph.D. candidate at Brown University, said that researchers know that a large asteroid impact caused the South Pole-Aitken, a colossal impact crater on the far side of the moon that measures around 1,553 miles in diameter and between 3.8 and 5 miles deep. The impact from this asteroid would have generated a lot of heat that the researchers say affected the moon's interior dynamics.

Hubble captures snake-like spiral galaxy millions of light-years away
The Hubble Space Telescope has been operating for more than 30 years now, and despite its age, it still manages to shock onlookers with the images it can produce.
NASA and the European Space Agency's Hubble Space Telescope has been used to photograph a spiral galaxy that is relatively close when speaking on astronomical terms. The spiral galaxy is known as NGC 5921 and resides approximately 80 million light-years from Earth within the constellation Serpens.
NASA has taken to its blog to explain that the galaxy NGC 5921 has long serpentine spiral arms and is similar to our own Milky Way galaxy as it contains a central linear band of stars. The space agency explains that this bar plays a role in how parent galaxies produce stars and impacts the motion of stars within the region. NASA writes that around half of all spiral galaxies contain bars. The above image was partly captured by Hubble's Wide Field Camera 3 and observations conducted by the ground-based Gemini Observatory.

Chernobyl radioactive material was moved by Russian soldiers
Ukrainian officials have said that Russian soldiers have moved radioactive material from dangerous areas around the defunct Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
Within the first couple of weeks of Russia's invasion into Ukraine, the Kremlin's forces took the Chernobyl nuclear power plant that has been abandoned since the catastrophic disaster that happened in 1986. Ukrainian officials claimed that Russian soldiers weren't wearing the correct protective equipment and entered the dangerous Red Forest that contains radioactive soil. These claims were later backed up by drone footage that showed Russian had dug trenches near the nuclear site.
Recently Ukrainian forces took back Chernobyl after Russia backed out of the region and has now moved onto eastern Ukraine. According to a report from CNN, Ukrainian officials are now detecting radioactive material all over the nuclear site, and according to soldiers at the site, when the Russian forces went into the Red Forest, they brought back radioactive material on their shoes and tracked it all throughout the plant, causing radiation levels to be increased. Furthermore, the soldier said that Russian soldiers would have taken radioactive dust with them when they left.

Intel is celebrating the grand opening of the gigantic new expansion of its D1X facility in Hillsboro, Oregon -- with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that saw senior government officials, community leaders, and more attend -- including Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger.

NVIDIA's next-gen Ada Lovelace AD102 GPU: 24GB GDDR6X @ 21Gbps, 600W+
It's a new day, so we have a new rumor for NVIDIA's next-gen AD102-powered GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card... which BTW, could be called the GeForce RTX 5090... more on that here.
Until now, NVIDIA's next-gen Ada Lovelace GPU would arrive with the flagship AD102-powered GeForce RTX 4090, and 24GB of GDDR6X memory at a faster 24Gbps. The 24GB of GDDR6X memory on the newly-released GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is closed at 21Gbps, for comparison.
But the new rumors state that the RTX 4090 would have the AD102-300 GPU, with 24GB of GDDR6X memory at a slower 21Gbps (so, the same bandwidth as the RTX 3090 Ti and its GDDR6X) but a much higher 600W of power consumption. This is up from the 450-500W of power that the custom RTX 3090 Ti models use, so it should be fun to see how far they can be pushed.

NVIDIA could skip GeForce RTX 40 series, right into RTX 50 series GPUs
NVIDIA has pumped out its last flagship Ampere-based GeForce RTX 30 series GPU, with the release of the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics card... but Ada Lovelace isn't too far away now, and a gigantic rumor has just dropped about the new series GPUs.
In a new tweet, leaker @harukaze5719 simply said "RTX 4000 series or RTX 5000 series?" followed up "Well... Whatever...". Alright, so it looks like we have a super-hot rumor that NVIDIA could skip over the GeForce RTX 40 series nomenclature, and into the GeForce RTX 50 series.
I can see this happening given that we're expecting virtually twice the perfgormance out of the flagship AD102-powered GeForce RTX 4090 -- or is that the new GeForce RTX 5090 -- it would feel weird going from the RTX 3090 + RTX 3090 Ti to the RTX 4070 (or RTX 5070) and seeing similar performance, whiel the RTX 4090 (or RTX 5090) only "feels" a little "faster" because its number isn't as high.

AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT: Navi 33 GPU beats RX 6900 XT at 1080p, and RT
AMD's next-gen RDNA 3 architecture will be unleashed later this year, and now we have some very exciting rumors about the mid-range Navi 33-powered Radeon RX 7700 XT graphics card.
The new Radeon RX 7700 XT will reportedly rock a monolithic Navi 33 GPU made on TSMC's 6nm process node, 8GB of GDDR6 memory, and performance that should keep up with AMD's current Navi 21-based flagship Radeon RX 6900 XT. You read that right, not only that, but also power sitting at around 200W... better power efficiency than NVIDIA's Ampere, and next-gen Ada Lovelace GPU architectures.
In his latest video, Tom @ Moore's Law is Dead is leaking out the skinny on Navi 33 + Radeon RX 7700 XT. We are looking at Navi 33 (and thus, the RX 7700 XT) will have "Rasterization Performance Equal or Greater Than RX 6900 XT" while ray tracing performance on the Radeon RX 7700 XT is "greater" than the RX 6900 XT.

Halo Infinite is nearly 4x as popular as Battlefield 2042 right now
Battlefield 2042's numbers are in a really bad place right on Steam and have dropped to their lowest point since launch.
Following significant controversy, lack of content, and tons of glitches, it seems PC gamers are moving on from Battlefield 2042. EA's latest online-only shooter has dipped below 1,000 players today on Steam--it's lowest since launch--but has somewhat stabilized in the rough 1,700 player mark.
It's worth noting that Battlefield 2042 has lost over 98% of its Steam players since launch; the game had 105,397 players upon release and currently has 1,733 players.

Epic Games nearly doubles its valuation in 2 years
Epic Games raised $2 billion in its latest funding round, pushing its total valuation to tens of billions.
Sony and LEGO's parent company have just made a combined $2 billion investment into Epic Games to help propel the metaverse and fuel Unreal Engine 5. Following this significant finance injection, Epic Games now has a valuation of $31.5 billion--nearly double what it was worth two years ago. Epic Games said its valuation was roughly $17 billion back in 2020 (Epic was also worth $15 billion in 2018).
The latest multi-billion investment round reflects Epic's unique ambitions with two entertainment titans. Sony in particular has a vested interest in Epic's success because many of its digital entertainment operating units make use of Unreal Engine, which is used in production of games, films, and TV shows. Sony has been ramping up its PlayStation Productions segment to produce adaptations of key gaming IPs like Uncharted, with major TV shows based on The Last of Us and Twisted Metal currently in the works.
