NVIDIA's next-gen Ada Lovelace 'AD102' GPU 'has started testing'
NVIDIA's next-gen Ada Lovelace "AD102" GPU, which will power the next-gen GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 graphics cards, has "started testing" according to leaker "kopite7kimi".
We don't know much else outside of that, other than AD102 "has started testing" but we do know that it will have 24GB of GDDR6X memory at 24Gbps (which is another thing kopite7kimi confirmed). Previous rumors pegged the 24GB of GDDR6X at 24Gbps at first, then recently down to 21Gbps, but now it's back to 24Gbps.
The new GeForce RTX 4090 and GeForce RTX 4080 graphics cards should both be powered by the new AD102 GPU, with performance expectations at double the GeForce RTX 3090 and GeForce RTX 3080. Power consumption will be high, with rumors of 500-600W of power consumption on the RTX 4090.

Adding gold to vaccines increases efficacy by over 25%, research shows
A study on the vaccine development titled "Enantiomer-dependent immunological response to chiral nanoparticles" has been published in the journal Nature.
An international research team found that the addition of left-handed chiral gold nanoparticles to vaccines increased their effectiveness by over 25 percent. The gold nanoparticles are added as adjuvants, molecules that boost the immune system's sensitivity to a particular antigen, where an antigen is any substance that elicits an immune response.

'Historic' laser weapon system test by US Navy destroys passing drone
In February, the U.S. Navy used an "all-electric, high-energy laser weapon" to destroy a target for the first time.
The demonstration involved a red drone flying nearby the ground-based laser system, which the test used to represent a subsonic cruise missile in flight. The weapon is the Layered Laser Defense (LLD) and was designed and built by Lockheed Martin. It homed in on the drone, firing a laser invisible to the naked eye, which caused a fiery glow and smoke to emit from the drone before it fell to the ground while deploying its parachute.

Destroyed Russian warship may have sunk with 'priceless relic' onboard
The Moskva was a Russian cruiser class warship that Ukraine has allegedly sunk.
Ukraine claims to have sunk the warship while it was in the Black Sea after striking it with a Neptune anti-ship cruise missile. However, Russia has disputed this, admitting the Moskva has sunk but not that Ukraine attacked it and caused it to sink.
According to Russian news agency TASS in 2020, the Russian Orthodox Church acquired a piece of the True Cross, the cross upon which Jesus Christ was crucified. The Russian Orthodox Church told TASS that it would place the piece aboard the Moskva, in keeping with the church's close ties with the Russian military. Previously, members of the clergy has blessed Russian weapons of all sizes, even up to nuclear weapons.

Man wins $450,000 in a lawsuit over a birthday party he didn't want
A Kentucky man has been awarded $450,000 in a lawsuit that he won over an unwanted birthday party his company threw him.
The man is Kevin Berling, who filed a lawsuit against his company Gravity Diagnostics where he claimed that the company discriminated against him based on disabilities. The lawsuit was filed in Kentucky's Kenton County and explains that Berling suffers from anxiety disorders and previously requested his manager refrain from throwing him a surprise birthday party at the workplace as it could trigger a panic attack and traumatic childhood memories.
Gravity Diagnostics has denied that it has committed any wrongdoing despite staff still throwing him a surprise birthday in August 2019 that resulted in Berling having a panic attack and leaving to eat the remainder of his food in his car.

NASA's moon rocket made it to the launch pad, and now it's going back
NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) and Orion spacecraft made their way onto the launchpad on March 17th.
Since then, NASA engineers have been conducting tests at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida to ensure the SLS and Orion's readiness for the upcoming uncrewed Artemis I mission to the moon. After three attempts, workers have been unable to complete the final test, a practice countdown referred to as the "wet dress rehearsal."
The repeated failure has led NASA to decide to return the SLS and Orion to the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB), where technicians can undertake work to fix the issues plaguing the spacecraft. The major problems have been with a faulty helium check valve and a liquid hydrogen leak. The spacecraft's launch was initially slated for early June, but the setbacks may result in yet another delay for the mission.

'Screaming planets' may explain one of big mysteries of the universe
Originally discovered in 2007, fast radio bursts, or as researchers refer to them, FRBs, are one of the many mysteries of the universe that are yet to be fully explained by science.
FRBs are a radio wave pulse that ranges from a fraction of a millisecond to a few milliseconds, but is estimated to release as much energy as the sun does over three days. The process of these pulses isn't yet fully understood by astronomers, but a team of scientists recently put forward a study published in the Astrophysics Journal, and it provides evidence for an explanation of these FRBs.
The team suggests that FRBs may be caused by neutron stars interacting with orbiting planets within their region. The researchers explain that the pulse of radio waves may be caused by a planet's orbit coming too close to the neutron, and as a result, the neutron stars strong gravitational pull tears parts of the planet off, causing an interaction that produces "really strong radio emissions."

NASA telescope photographs a monster at the heart of a distant galaxy
NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has photographed a spiral galaxy 55 million light-years away from Earth and at its heart is a monster.
NASA has taken to its blog and social channels to showcase an image taken by the Hubble Space Telescope's Wide Field Camera 3, which has honed in on a barred spiral galaxy that is approximately 55 million light-years away from Earth within the constellation Coma Berenices. The above image shows spiral galaxy M91, and while looking stunning to the eye, it's hiding an "astronomical monstrosity", according to NASA.
Much like our own galaxy, the Milky Way, M91 also contains a supermassive black hole at its center. A 2009 study using data acquired by Hubble estimated M91's black hole to weigh anywhere between 9.6 and 38 million times as much as the Sun. NASA films a major Easter solar flare that caused a radio blackout
Over the Easter holiday weekend, officials at the US Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) reported observing a large solar flare followed by a coronal mass ejection (CME).

On April 16 at 11:23 pm EDT, the SWPC, which is overseen by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), confirmed an X1.1 class solar flare that was traced to sunspot regions 2994 and 2993 located on the eastern limb of the sun. According to the agency, the flare lasted for around 34 minutes and caused a brief radio blackout that NOAA has classified as an "R3 (Strong) event [that] had an associated Type II radio sweep".

Telescope captures stunning footage of 'flying whirlpool' above Hawaii
The Subaru Telescope, located in Hawaii near Mauna Kea and situated at an altitude of 13,579 feet, has captured a video of a "flying whirlpool".
SpaceWeather.com has described the object as a "flying whirlpool," and it was spotted by the Subaru Telescope on Sunday, April 17, only hours after the launch of SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket. LiveScience and SpaceWeather.com confirm that the "flying whirlpool" was caused by the post-deorbit-burn fuel vent of the Falcon 9 upper stage that sends it out of its orbit back down to Earth to burn up eventually.
SpaceX launched the Falcon 9 rocket carrying a classified payload for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California on April 17. While the upper stage of the Falcon 9 isn't reusable, the first stage is, and its reusability was displayed by a few videos posted to SpaceX's official Twitter account. These videos show the first stage successfully landing atop a drone ship in the Pacific Ocean.

Elon Musk buying Twitter would be a disaster for privacy, warns expert
Privacy and social media experts have raised concerns about Elon Musk's attempt to privatize Twitter and its impact on user privacy.
A few days ago, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO put forward an offer of $43 billion to purchase 100% of Twitter's stock and convert the second largest social media platform into a privatized company. To recap past events, Musk originally purchased a 9.2% stake in Twitter in early April, causing Twitter's stock price to rise by 25% following Musk's purchase.
In a letter included in the SEC filing, Musk writes that if his offer isn't accepted, he will have to reconsider his position as a shareholder, which could be translated to "If you don't accept my offer, I will sell my position which may or may not cause Twitter's overall stock price to fall suddenly fall back to where it was before I purchased a position."

Intel Xeon 'Sapphire Rapids-SP' CPU: 56 cores, 112 threads @ 3.7GHz
Intel's next-gen 4th Gen Xeon Scalable "Sapphire Rapids-SP" processor has been teased in a new leak, pushing out its 56 cores and 112 threads of CPU power.
The new Intel Xeon "Sapphire Rapids" CPU is in the news again from leaker "YuuKi-Ans" teasing the Sapphire Rapids-SP chip, which will be made on the Intel 7 process node (formally known as 10nm Enhanced SuperFin) and has 56 cores and 112 threads, with a maximum TDP of 350W.
We've seen another engineering sample (ES) chip of Intel's upcoming Sapphire Rapids-SP, which used the ES2 silicon and was limited to 270W of power. But the new chip has a boosted TDP, up to 350W (Power Limit 1) with PL2 set to 420W. Intel's new Sapphire Rapids-SP chip here would have a base 1.9GHz CPU clock, and boost of up to 3.3GHz -- but HWiNFO64 software reports that the single-core boost might hit up to 3.7GHz.

CPU-Z now supports AMD Ryzen 7000 series, Intel 13th Gen Core CPUs
CPU-Z has now been updated with support for both AMD and Intel's next-gen CPUs, with CPU-Z 2.0.1 now available for you to download.
The new CPU-Z v2.0.1 software supports AMD's upcoming Zen 4-powered Ryzen 7000 "Raphael" series CPUs, as well as Intel's next-gen 13th Gen Core "Raptor Lake" CPUs. The CPU-Z changelog shows that AMD's new Raphael CPUs will be an APU with built-in graphics (RDNA 2 GPU).
Intel's new 13th Gen Core "Raptor Lake" CPUs will see the new flagship Core i9-13900K processor with an increased core count -- 24 cores and 32 threads -- up from the 12th Gen Core "Alder Lake" CPU and flagship Core i9-12900K with 16 cores and 24 threads.

EK reveals special edition water block for the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti FE
EK has just announced its new Special Edition high-performance GPU waterblock for NVIDIA's super-fast new flagship GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Founders Edition graphics card.
The new EK-Quantum Vector FE RTX 3090 Ti D-RGB arrives in two flavors: Silver and Black, both with -- in the words of EK "stark contrasts between the aluminum outer shell and backplate, as well as the Plexi window and terminal illuminated with addressable D-RGB LEDs". Better yet, the new EK-Quantum Vector FE RTX 3090 Ti Backplates are available stand-alone, for those who want the single-colored look (versus silver backplate, with the black water block, and vica versa).

Intel Arc Alchemist A770 desktop GPU: full ACM-G10 GPU at 2.4GHz
Intel has reportedly delayed its Arc Alchemist desktop GPUs to somewhere in the late Q2 or early Q3 2022... but now we have some news on the Arc A770 graphics card.
The new Intel Arc Alchemist A770 would feature the full ACM-G10 GPU with clocks at 2.4GHz, and 16GB of GDDR6 memory onboard. The news of the Arc A770 has been tested on the older-gen Intel 9th Gen Core "Coffee Lake" CPU -- the Core i5-9600K processor in particular -- which is used by Intel staffers for internal testing.
The Geekbench listing shows 12.7GB of RAM, but we know that'll be 16GB of GDDR6 memory, while the GPU clocks are at 2.4GHz. At 2.4GHz, that's 200MHz higher than the Arc 3 mobile GPU at 2.2GHz -- but 2.4GHz is also higher than the 2.25GHz (2250MHz) GPU clocks on their desktop GPU.

Intel Arc Alchemist desktop GPUs reportedly delayed, disappointment
Intel has reportedly delayed the launch of its new Arc Alchemist desktop GPUs according to the latest rumors... and it truly doesn't surprise me (or anyone) at this point. It's a mess.
According to "Enthusiastic Citizen", Intel has delayed its new Arc Alchemist desktop GPUs from late Q2 (end of June) through to early Q3 (July-September). Intel has only confirmed its Arc Alchemist "Limited Edition" GPU so far, with the mobile Arc Alchemist GPU launch a total mess so far, too.
Intel effed the mobile Arc GPU launch up so much that it's now irrelevant (but we, and many other sites and enthusiasts won't forget that) and now the desktop Arc Alchemist launch seems to be running full-speed into the same fate. Intel could have been more upfront about this, but they haven't... so it's just an egg on their face at this point. The Intel i740 AGP launch was better than this...

ZADAK has just announced the launch of its new SPARK RGB DDR5 desktop gaming RAM, marking ZADAK's very first entry into the DDR5 market.
The new ZADAK SPARK RGB DDR5 gaming memory comes in both 16GB and 32GB kits, with speeds of between DDR5-5200 and DDR5-6400. ZADAK is using a matte white look with a frosted texture, with "gem-like" decorations.

MSI breaks world records: Core i9-12900KS @ 7.5GHz + MEG Z690 Unify-X
Intel's new tweaked Core i9-12900KS processor is now out in the wild, and multiple world records are being broken by MSI with its MEG Z690 Unify-X motherboard.
Overclocker "SHIMIZU" from Japan has used the Intel Core i9-12900KS mixed with the MSI MEG Z690 Unify-X motherboard, pushing the CPU to a huge 7.5GHz -- or 7503MHz exactly -- with an x74 multiplier and 101.39MHz bus clock, while the voltage was pushed to close to 1.75V.
You're not going to be running at these clocks all day, or without exotic LN2 cooling, or with all of the cores enabled... SHIMIZU was only stable at those clocks with 2 active cores and SMT disabled. Still, the Core i9-12900KS is the fastest-clocked CPU available right now... and at 7.5GHz it's even faster (albeit without all the cores enabled, and SMT disabled). Still, a very, very impressive feat to see.

Intel's next-gen Core i9-13900K could have insane 5.8GHz CPU clocks
Intel's next-gen 13th Gen Core "Raptor Lake" CPUs are going to be a blast... with the flagship Core i9-13900K processor rumored to have huge 5.8GHz CPU clock speeds.
Both of Intel's current-gen 12th Gen Core "Alder Lake" and upcoming 13th Gen Core "Raptor Lake" CPUs feature x86 Golden Cove "P-Cores" (Performance) and Gracemont Atom "E-cores" (Efficiency). But the new Raptor Lake-powered CPUs will reportedly offer 16 cores (up from 8 cores on Alder Lake).
This would increase the total core count up to 24 cores and 32 threads, up from the 16 cores and 24 threads on the current Alder Lake-based flagship Core i9-12900K processor. Intel's tweaked Core i9-12900KS processor has CPU boost clocks of up to 5.5GHz, but rumor has it the new Core i9-13900K would boost up to a huge 5.8GHz -- that 200-300MHz increase is going to be big -- and we all can't wait.

AMD is gearing up for its launch of the refreshed Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs, with the new flagship Radeon RX 6950 XT... and now SAPPHIRE's new custom TOXIC Radeon RX 6950 XT Limited Edition graphics card has turned up.
SAPPHIRE's new custom TOXIC Radeon RX 6950 XT Limited Edition graphics card has popped up on an Italian retailer "Breakpoint.it" with quite an insane price. We're looking at 3133 EUR which works out to around $3179 USD. Pretty damn expensive, that's for sure -- twice as much as the Radeon RX 6900 XT -- could be a placeholder price, please, please be a placeholder price.
The price insanity doesn't stop: SAPPHIRE's custom TOXIC Radeon RX 6950 XT Limited Edition costs 3133 EUR, the NITRO+ OC model would cost 2961 EUR, and the NITRO+ PURE costs $3048. We know the prices are crazy when the Italian retailer lists SAPPHIRE's custom Radeon RX 6750 XT costs 1419 EUR... yeah.
