CDPR: Next-gen Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 may be delayed to 2022

| Sep 2, 2021 10:35 AM CDT

CD Projekt may delay Cyberpunk 2077's next-gen port into 2022, but The Witcher 3 might be safe for a 2021 release due to its external developer focus.

CDPR: Next-gen Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 may be delayed to 2022

Today CDPR gave quick updates on the status of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3's next-gen versions. Both games are now set to release in late 2021, but the company says its plans could change.

"Our target is to release the next-gen version of CP2077 late this year. At the same time, keeping in mind the lessons we learned in the past year, and taking into account that this project still remains in development, we can't say with full certainty the production schedule will not change, of course," CD Projekt Group SVP of Business Development Michal Nowakowski said in a recent earnings call.

CD Projekt asks court to dismiss securities fraud lawsuit

| Sep 2, 2021 9:28 AM CDT

CD Projekt Group has asked the US District Court for the Central District of California to dismiss the securities fraud lawsuit the company is currently facing.

CD Projekt asks court to dismiss securities fraud lawsuit

Shareholders have filed a class action securities fraud lawsuit against CD Projekt Group. The suit alleges the games-maker misled investors by purposely withholding Cyberpunk 2077's disastrous performance on PS4 and Xbox One, which led to a controversy that tanked CD Projekt's share value. Investors lost money and incurred damages when shares dropped, paving the way for a securities lawsuit filing. Activision-Blizzard also faces a similar securities fraud lawsuit.

The litigation is moving forward and currently has a lead plaintiff. Four separate lawsuits have been combined into one class action suit, however CD Projekt Group now says it has asked the court to dismiss the case entirely.

Battlefield 2042 beta should run between September 6-11 for pre-orders

| Sep 1, 2021 7:17 PM CDT

If you pre-ordered Battlefield 2042 then you will get access to the early beta of the game, which is reportedly kicking off very soon -- between September 6 and September 11.

Battlefield 2042 beta should run between September 6-11 for pre-orders

The news of the Battlefield 2042 beta is coming from Italian outlet MediaWorld, which is the biggest electronics retailer in all of Europe. They've got a listing for the PlayStation 5 version of Battlefield 2042, which says: "Pre-order this product by September 3 and you will receive access to the early beta of the game from September 6 to September 11".

Even the official Battlefield Twitter account is getting in on the fun, as they know that millions of gamers and Battlefield fans (myself included) are heavily anticipating the new first-person shooter. I mean, I'm pretty damn hyped -- more than the last couple of total failures of Battlefield games (at least IMO). I need something to pull me away from Call of Duty: Warzone.

No Man's Sky modder is doing ungodly things with Sean Murray's head

A modder is creating bizarre in-game nightmares using Sean Murray's face.

Like all No Man's Sky fans, modder Winder Sun is eagerly waiting the game's new Frontiers update. With no release date in site, Winder Sun decided to put on a lighthearted protest by putting Sean Murray's face into the game.

"For every day the update is not released I will put your head on one additional object in the game. And yes this is a threat," Winder Sun said jokingly on Twitter.

Boomer may return in Far Cry 6 as your amigo pet

| Sep 1, 2021 1:36 PM CDT

It looks like Boomer will return in Far Cry 6, alongside a fearsome panther ally.

Boomer may return in Far Cry 6 as your amigo pet

Ubisoft's new Far Cry 6 gameplay stream (around the 1:06:35 mark) revealed two new mysterious pet amigos: The panther Oluso and Boom Boom, who looks very familiar. In fact, it looks just like Boomer, the beloved dog from Far Cry 5.

The studio has yet to confirm any other amigos besides Guapo the crocodile, Chicharron the crazed rooster, and Chorizo the wheelie-dog. We're not sure if Boom Boom is Boomer himself or the son of Boomer, but that folded ear is a dead giveaway. There's also the panther to consider, and it's possible this particular amigo is analogous to Champagne, the white panther included in the Vice Pack DLC that's only available in the Far Cry 6 Ultimate Edition.

Starfield has a pleasure city where you can get high on LSD fish

| Sep 1, 2021 12:28 PM CDT

Bethesda delivers three new bite-sized clips of some of the main cities we'll visit while carousing around space in Starfield. One of them has space wolf-raptors. The other has LSD-producing fish.

Starfield has a pleasure city where you can get high on LSD fish

Starfield is Bethesda's most ambitious game ever, complete with multiple planets, star systems, and bustling cities with vibrant cultures and factions. The idea is to merge old-school NASA golden age space exploration with Star Wars' ragamuffin tech wrapped up in the 1970's futurism of Syd Mead and John Berkey.

While the concept art, images, and E3 interviews tell us a lot about Starfield, there's still much we don't know. Bethesda is starting to drip-feed new info with bite-sized developer commentary videos, including one city where people literally get high on LSD-producing fish. Yes, really.

You'll never believe how good BioShock looks in Unreal Engine 5

BioShock 4 could look like this dazzling Unreal Engine 5 gameplay demo.

You'll never believe how good BioShock looks in Unreal Engine 5

BioShock is a game that's actually aged pretty well. The remastered trilogy looks pretty good at 4K, but what would Irrational's sunken treasure look like in a new next-gen games engine?

Skilled developer noodlespagoodle answers the question with an impressive BioShock Evolution gameplay demo built entirely in Epic's latest Unreal Engine 5. The results are pretty eye-opening to say the least, showing the power of UE5's high-end Lumen lighting systems (those reflections are incredible) and Nanite virtualized texture tech.

Hideo Kojima is working on two new games and one is unpredictable

| Aug 31, 2021 4:41 PM CDT

Death Stranding star actor Norman Reedus pretty much confirms a sequel is in development at Kojima Productions.

Hideo Kojima is working on two new games and one is unpredictable

The cat's out of the bag: Hideo Kojima wants to make Death Stranding 2 and the project is currently on the negotiation table (this makes sense with Death Stranding's 5 million sales). At a recent Walking Dead event, Death Stranding star Norman Reedus told attendees like Andoro Cinema: "I think we're doing a second Death Stranding . [The game] is in negotiations right now."

This isn't the first time Reedus mentioned a new project with Kojima. "We did Death Stranding, which was a huge hit, and we're in talks to do other stuff," Reedus told Wired in a March 2020 interview.

New Halo 3 armor has Greek and Norse myths, knights, ancient Spartans

| Aug 31, 2021 3:32 PM CDT

Halo 3 is getting a ton of new armor skins and variants based on Greek and Norse mythology, ancient Spartans, and a slew of rad medieval sets from the crusades era.

New Halo 3 armor has Greek and Norse myths, knights, ancient Spartans

Rather than look to the future, 343i is taking inspiration from the past for MCC's new Mjolnir sets. Halo 3 will soon break the alternate reality barrier with new armor unlocks. MCC's season 8 armor has it all: Skulls, crusader helmets, Spartan armor straight out of ancient history (and the 300 movie), Greek mythological monsters like Gorgon (aka Medusa) with her viperous crest, and Norse-inspired gear that's very Skyrim in scope and design (there's even some Loki horns, too).

"We found that keeping the heavy armor and weapon shapes intact, we could convey the same power fantasy, but make it visually evocative and intellectually interesting in completely new ways-with just a little suspension of "canon" ideals-ultimately achieving that goal for greater player expression," 343i Art Director for the Halo Publishing Team Horia Dociu said in a recent update.

Rise of the Tomb Raider's Xbox exclusivity cost Microsoft $100 million

Microsoft's huge exclusivity/publishing deal for Rise of the Tomb Raider cost a whopping $100 million.

Rise of the Tomb Raider's Xbox exclusivity cost Microsoft $100 million

AAA games are pretty expensive to make. Publishers can easily spend tens of millions (or sometimes over $100 million) when tallying up marketing, distribution, and development costs. That's apparently the case with Rise of the Tomb Raider's production.

According to ex-Square Enix director Fabien Rossini, the Rise of the Tomb Raider exclusivity deal on Xbox was worth $100 million. "Building strategic partnerships with first parties (marketing and exclusivity deals). Negotiated multiple deals including the Tomb Raider exclusivity on Xbox worth $100M," Rossini writes.

China limits minors to just 3 hours of online gaming per week

| Aug 30, 2021 9:07 PM CDT

We all know China is just being China, but maybe China needs to be less 1984 and maybe a bit less China... the country has announced it is restricting minors from gaming in a big, big way.

China limits minors to just 3 hours of online gaming per week

China announced through its own Press and Publication Administration that they are enforcing massive restrictions for online gaming, where underage gamers will be stopped from spending their days and nights gaming away.

Minors in China will now be limited to playing games between the hours of 8-9 PM local time on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. Oh, and they'll be able to play games on holidays, too... how lucky. Gamers in China will be completely banned from playing online games at all during the week.

HR Giger, Beksinski-inspired horror FPS Scorn coming Fall 2021

| Aug 30, 2021 2:34 PM CDT

I first wrote about Scorn way back in 2017. Now after 4 years of development, it looks like the ultra-weird FPS is finally ready for release.

HR Giger, Beksinski-inspired horror FPS Scorn coming Fall 2021

According to a flash mention during Gamescom 2021, Scorn will release sometime in Fall 2021. That's pretty close and it's possible we could see the nightmarish shooter launch near or on Halloween this year.

The developers at Ebb Software haven't given an update on Scorn for a while but the Gamescom reel did a good enough job. Oh, and Scorn will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass on both consoles and PC. Remember, it's an Xbox Series X console exclusive (not coming to PS4, PS5, or Xbox One) but it's also launching on Steam.

Sony's new PlayStation 5 model doesn't just have a better screw to adjust the base--it actually has a different heat sink too.

Infamous Second Son actually helped create The Last of Us Part II

Infamous Second Son actually helped create The Last of Us Part II

Like Microsoft's, Sony's internal teams often collaborate with one another and share vital tips--or even game assets--to save valuable time. That's what happened with Sucker Punch, who shared their own version of a digital Seattle with Naughty Dog in order to help the studio solidify a post-apocalyptic city.

In a recent interview with Game Informer, Naughty Dog President Evan Wells revealed the Infamous Second Son was a big help to making their controversial award-winning game.

GTA 6's supposed Captain McClane is probably a character in GTA Online

| Aug 30, 2021 10:12 AM CDT

A post from voice actor Dave Jackson kicks off speculation of a new Grand Theft Auto 6 character, but the reality may be disappointing.

GTA 6's supposed Captain McClane is probably a character in GTA Online

In a recent Facebook post, experienced voice actor Dave Jackson announced he'll be playing "police chief captain McClane in the new Grand Theft Auto series." Jackson is a legitimate voice actor with an expansive portfolio that encompasses commercials, cartoons, and video games.

Gamers think Captain McClane might be an NPC in Grand Theft Auto 6, and while that's possible considering GTA 6 is probably set in Vice City, it's more likely that Jackson's character will be included in a GTA Online expansion.

Here's what Zelda: Breath of the Wild at 8K + ray tracing looks like

| Aug 27, 2021 7:52 PM CDT

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a system-seller for the Nintendo Switch, where I personally purchased the Switch exclusively for Breath of the Wild and man, was it worth it. But what about at 8K with ray tracing?

Here's what Zelda: Breath of the Wild at 8K + ray tracing looks like

Digital Dreams has teased The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild running at 8K -- so 7680 x 4320, which is orders of magnitude better than the 1152 x 648 that the Switch handheld mode runs the game. That's just 81% of 720p, and 720p is nothing against 4320p.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild running at not just native 8K but also with ray tracing reshade preset Beyond All Limits. It really does look awesome at 8K 60FPS and with the Beyond All Limits preset installed and makes me want to replay the game on my PC like this, so bad.

Borderlands 4 dev Gearbox makes big power play for its future

| Aug 27, 2021 6:17 PM CDT

Gearbox Software has spent a staggering $158 million to open a third studio in Montreal, Canada where it will focus on Borderlands 4 and new IP development.

Borderlands 4 dev Gearbox makes big power play for its future

Gearbox has made a massive power play to solidify its future. The company is spending $158 million to launch a new Montreal-based studio. To put that investment into perspective, Embracer Group paid $363 million to buy Gearbox in February (with a $1 billion bonus clause). Gearbox also earned roughly $51 million last quarter and made up 12.7% of Embracer's total Q1 2022 revenues.

While Gearbox is technically owned by Embracer, the parent takes a hands-off approach and lets its publishing labels and subsidiaries make their own business models. Saber Interactive, for instance, has made huge acquisitions with the likes of Metro developer 4A Games.
