Uncharted 4 delayed once again, until April the 26th now

Jeff Williams | Dec 23, 2015 10:16 AM CST

Naughty Dog has done the unthinkable, they've delayed Uncharted 4 again until the 27th of April for the US and the 29th of April in the UK. But the news isn't necessarily all bad either.

Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley wrote an official statement on the PlayStation Blog, and talked about where the project is and why they've decided to delay the release of one of the most anticipated games in the history of the series. "Essentially, it's because they want to further polish it before it's released to the public."

But hearing the news of having such an anticipated game delayed, once again, isn't easy to take. And it apparently wasn't an easy decision for the co-directors to make either. They want tot show off their most ambitious game just as much as we want to play it, but they don't quite think it's ready for primetime. And thus, they "humbly ask you to wait a bit longer."

ASUS AU builds a kick-ass gaming PC for 16-year-old disabled gamer

Anthony Garreffa | Dec 23, 2015 1:22 AM CST

The holiday season is here, and ASUS Australia has really struck a chord with us here at TweakTown by having their handover event for a new gaming PC for a disabled Australian gamer.

ASUS AU builds a kick-ass gaming PC for 16-year-old disabled gamer

16-year-old Kieren Watts has Congenital Muscular Dystrophy, which is a general term for a group of genetic muscle diseases that occur at birth (congenital) or early during infancy. ASUS Australia teamed up with the Australian departments of Cooler Master, NVIDIA, Intel as well as community members like Good Gaming Fun (GGF, run by Stuart Tonks), Simple Modz (run by Alex Ciobanu), Mods by ACS (Drew Lawrence), IMFACEROLL Gaming (Corey Gregory) and members of the "Australian PC Gaming and Enthusiasts", and the "Australian PC Modders and Enthusiasts" Facebook groups.

Everyone came together to build a rather kick ass gaming PC, which consists of the following components:

Just Cause 3's latest patch for the PC improves memory management

Anthony Garreffa | Dec 22, 2015 11:22 PM CST

The latest v1.021 patch for Just Cause 3 on the PC offers improved memory management, as well as fixing up the stability when you exit to the desktop from the game. The new patch is just 99MB in size.

Avalanche Studios only just released the v1.02 patch for the PC and consoles last week, with the PC patch weighing in at 132MB - but the consoles were slapped with a huge 3GB patch. The v1.02 patch offered improved loading times, performance improvements and more. Avalanche explains the improved stability when exiting to the desktop: "As some of you will be aware, there was an issue that would sometimes cause the game to crash when exiting to desktop. The cause of this issue has been identified and addressed with this update".

The studio explains the memory management improvements: "In addition to fixing the exit to desktop crash, this update also improves Just Cause 3's memory management across a variety of hardware configurations. Some systems will feel this beneficial impact more than others".

Nintendo rumored to show NX backstage at CES 2016

Derek Strickland | Dec 22, 2015 3:34 PM CST

A new rumor suggests that Nintendo will show off its new NX console at a closed session at CES 2016 in Las Vegas.

Nintendo rumored to show NX backstage at CES 2016

So far Nintendo has kept its promise not to release new information about the NX until 2016, leaving the community to piece together details from patents and rumors. Although we've been given clues on what the NX might be, a new rumor circulated by Nintendo Enthusiast claims that Nintendo is inviting third-party developers to show off what the system has to offer. This means we might see a slew of new information release as early as January 2016, even if Nintendo pushes NDA's to attendees.

The publication was also told by a trusted source that the Nintendo NX will be on par with the Xbox One in terms of hardware power. This is an attempt to keep the console at a competitive price point when pitted against Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4. The Japanese gaming giant has said in the past that the NX will be "unique and different" and that it'll be truly next-generation in power, however the Xbox One itself is quite limited. Like the Xbox One and PS4, AMD is believed to be making the NX's APU chip.

Capcom developer "wbacon" has confirmed in the Steam forums for Dragon's Dogma that the upcoming PC version of the game will feature customizable hot keys, among other juicy bits.

Dragon's Dogma includes customizable item hot keys and more on PC

"Content wise, the port team stuffed everything else they possibly can into the base game plus some extra features fans had asked for," he writes. "That includes new Achievements for high level players (most are post game & BBI-related), customizable item hot keys, graphics and performance enhancements, and other nice-to-have nips and tucks that greatly improves the overall Dragon's Dogma experience."

You can see the customizable keys in action below (Lantern toggle is bound to NUM1; NUM2 is bound to healing regen items; NUM3 is bound to stamina regen items; NUM4 is bound to Eternal Ferrystone), which wbacon notes are "very handy, especially in the heat of combat."

Oh...Sir! The most glorious game about insulting your friends

Jeff Williams | Dec 22, 2015 9:07 AM CST

Sometimes the indie community has some very innovative stuff to show the world, but not all the time. In this case, a small indie studio comprised of two fine gentlemen in Poland have released the most splendid game ever: Oh...Sir!

This superb example of gaming mastery was devised as part of a game creation event called amJam and was put together in a mere 42 hours. They took the theme they were given, "this parrot is no more" from Monty Python, and ran with it. The result is a game that delights the senses in a most delicate way.

Oh...Sir! pits players in 1v1 combat against each other, letting you construct and hurl cleverly concocted insults using the choices given to you during the round. You take turns and have a limited time to come up with the most adroit insults possible.

Razer brings their Cortex curated game library to the Android Forge TV

Jeff Williams | Dec 21, 2015 6:36 PM CST

Razer has already entered the Android micro-console world in a big way with their Forge TV that started shipping to hungry hands in May of 2015. Their Cortex platform should help by providing an influx of popular new games and an easier way to find them.

It hasn't been the most popular option, with devices from NVIDIA and Amazon taking the crown, but now they've brought the Razer Cortex platform to the Forge TV, which should help to boost its popularity. This is much the same way that NVIDIA provides made for Tegra games through their Shield store, except the games found in Cortex won't be specifically remade for the Snapdragon found within the Forge TV.

A lot of the games that are making their debut were already available on the OUYA, which was picked up by Razer recently, but are now being made available again. The majority of titles are of the the indie variety, but there are some old school AAA gems found in there, like Sonic the Hedgehog and Bomb Squad.

Tales of Berseria coming to PS4, PC, no 30 FPS lock on PC this time

Sean Ridgeley | Dec 21, 2015 6:08 PM CST

A brand new game in the beloved Tales JRPG series is coming to PS4 and PC. Tales of Berseria, as it's called, will feature a tweaked battle system: think free run by default, free camera rotation, and the ability to assign multiple artes to different buttons, which can be exploited for combos.

Tales of Berseria coming to PS4, PC, no 30 FPS lock on PC this time

PC players will be especially happy because it no longer features the 30 FPS lock as seen in Tales of Zestiria. As you can see from the trailer, gameplay and cinematics are much smoother for it. While Zestiria eventually saw the release of a mod that removed the lock, it's nice that no such thing will be required this time.

Berseria doesn't have a release date yet, except to say it's due to launch in Japan sometime in 2016.

In celebration of everything Star Wars, CineFix has spun 8-bit gold by recreating the original trilogy as if it were an old Nintendo game.

Classic Star Wars trilogy gets recreated in 8-Bit graphics

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens utterly smashing box office records and invading our galaxy, the Force has never been stronger with gamers and ultra-geeks. Just about everyone is scouring the web looking for supplemental Star Wars entertainment, whether it be reviews, comics, books, games or super nerdy live-action battle reenactments. The clip above does just that and more: it reminds you what your childhood could have been like if this "game" had indeed been real.

Although J.J. Abrams has taken us on a new journey across the future of the franchise, CineFix takes us back to where it all began. The sci-fi adventures of our youth are re-visited with an epic excursion into the heart of Star Wars magic. A smattering of memorable scenes have been recreated in painstakingly awesome 8-bit detail, chronicling Star Wars: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi in progressive stages of console history. A New Hope, for example, resembles the early NES version of The Legend of Zelda, whereas Return of the Jedi takes on a Genesis-style action side-scroller feel.

Gamer sues Bethesda after losing wife and job to Fallout 4 addiction

After losing his wife and job to his Fallout 4 addiction, a hopelessly hooked gamer is suing Bethesda Softworks for damages.

Gamer sues Bethesda after losing wife and job to Fallout 4 addiction

As any seasoned Fallout or Elder Scrolls gamer knows, Bethesda RPG's are as addicting as any drug. These massive open-world games can swallow up hundreds upon hundreds of hours of time if you're not careful, but are the creators to blame for your inability to break the immersion? A 28 year-old Siberian gamer thinks so, and is suing Bethesda Softworks for a total of 500,000 rubles (or $7,000 USD) after losing his wife and job by playing Fallout 4 for three weeks straight. The gamer wants the developers to compensate him for the "emotional distress" caused by the game.

"If I knew that this game could have become so addictive, I would have become a lot more wary of it. I would not have bought it, or I would have left it until I was on holiday or until the New Year holidays," a statement from the Fallout 4 addict reads.

StarCraft II scene takes more blows as MMA and Rain retire

Chris Smith | Dec 21, 2015 11:04 AM CST

Recent news in the competitive StarCraft II scene has seen a famous personality announce terminal illness, professional gamers and managers thrown into jail for match-fixing, the retirement of well-loved Korean SC2 pro Heart and the departure of absolute gaming legend Flash. Adding to this, two more South Korean players have announced they will be hanging up the mouse and keyboard - MMA and Rain.

Mun Seong Won aka MMA from Team Acer has seen many victories over his gaming career, being currently ranked at 55th in the world for eSports earnings on tournaments alone. MMA has pulled in just under $400,00 since these recordings began in 2011. This 27-year-old Terran player originally wanted to become a soldier but was discharged due to a knee injury, then becoming known in the gaming world as 'Dream.t)1988' when he played for SK Telecom T1 in 2008.

The other retiree comes in the form of Park Sang Jin, AKA Rain. Explained as a previous champion of both the Ongamenet Starleague and the prestigious South Korean GSL, he is known as one of three players that have won two Korean StarCraft II 'starleagues', joining the likes of Classic and Maru. This retirement is explained by others as largely due to Rain saving his father's life, donating part of his liver in order to keep his dad alive, meaning a long rest from gaming was needed, resulting in him having to play catch-up with the other hard training professional players.

SEGA Dreamcast 2 to be PC and console hybrid?

Derek Strickland | Dec 21, 2015 10:32 AM CST

8/4/20 UPDATE:SEGA is not making a Dreamcast 2. The teaser site is not affiliated with SEGA, and is no longer live.

SEGA Dreamcast 2 to be PC and console hybrid?

SEGA is in absolutely no position to create or manufacture a console. In fact, they just closed their historic arcade in Akihabara due to COVID-19 significantly impacting its pachinko operations, which is one of the company's biggest consistent earnings. SEGA isn't doing badly--they made $1.153 billion in revenues in 2019, and we'll see how well they did in Q1'20 in a few days--but they are not in any kind of position to make a new console.

Original story is as follows.

Kojima will never stop making great games, for as long as he can

Jeff Williams | Dec 21, 2015 8:32 AM CST

Hideo Kojima hasn't exactly had the best of years, despite the undeniable success that Metal Gear Solid V was. His name has been summarily removed from all branding of his most previous of creations and he's been let-go under suspicious circumstances from a company he's helped to propel into a house-hold name.

But those somber circumstances aren't going to deter Kojima from doing what he loves. In an interview with the New Yorker, he talked about his childhood, his rise into the video gaming community and his inspirations for the various creations of his. But most importantly, Kojima was very adamant about continuing to make video games. In response to a friend who told him not to go on a mind-cleansing trip to a deserted island, he said that "Hearing that affirmed to me that my role in this world is to keep on making big games for as long as I can." He also said, "That is the mission I've been given in life."

He talked about how his new venture with his own company can free up his creative dream, making it easier to make decisions that are good for business and good for gamers. The Kojima will be with us, always.

DirectX 12-powered PS3 emulator now running Disgaea 3 at full speed

Anthony Garreffa | Dec 21, 2015 3:33 AM CST

In the new video, we see Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice playing at full speed on the PS3 emulator - showing that some great progress has been made on the emulator. There's an error at the end of the video, but other than that it looks like some smooth sailing for the PS3 emulator. Now we need some AAA titles that we all know and love from the PS3 running from this emulator.

Tom Clancy's The Division closed alpha gameplay leaks. Looks good?

Jeff Williams | Dec 20, 2015 10:48 AM CST

Someone has been kind enough to leak some gameplay footage from the closed alpha for Tom Clancy's The Division. The video, shown below, shows a dynamic open-world full of challenges and strife. But what it also might show is a graphical downgrade that could have happened.

Just keep in mind that this is an alpha still, and the actual playable portion of the game might not be fully optimized or made to look as graphically pleasing as it could. Also, this is the Xbox One version, meaning we still have a chance of seeing better graphics on the PC version.

The premise of the game itself looks good, with wide-open mission-based gameplay that seems interesting enough at first glance. But whether or not the complex missions and storytelling will hold-up to scrutiny, we don't know quite yet. This is one game that we would think would live up to the memory of Tom Clancy and his unique, and epic, method of story-telling.

Double your XP, this weekend only, in Star Wars: Battlefront

Jeff Williams | Dec 19, 2015 9:07 PM CST

EA is in getting in the spirit of celebrating the very successful launch of Star Wars: Episode 7 The Force Awakens.

This weekend, and this weekend only, you can enjoy receiving double the XP for your efforts on the battlefield against the Empire, or the Rebel Alliance. That means it might be possible to actually get to higher levels to play with the different weapons available, without the grind being too long.

Star Wars: Battlefront is a beautiful game that didn't quite meet the expectations of fans when it eventually released. The beta was but a small window into a game that only captures a small essence of what Star Wars is. It seems that gamers are more satisfied with Fallout 4 than with Battlefront, with around a 33K player peak over 24 hours. Not the best stats given the newness of it.

Far Cry Primal is a 'refreshing' experience, has a 'surprising setup'

Anthony Garreffa | Dec 19, 2015 8:05 AM CST

Ubisoft is on the offensive with Far Cry Primal, with Game Director Thomas Simon being interviewed by Red Bull about Primal. During the interview, Simon revealed that Far Cry Primal hopes to deliver a "surprising setup".

Simon added: "We know that we're going for a surprising setup with Primal, and that there's an element of risk to doing it, but it's also very refreshing. Even though it's new, though, it retains the Far Cry core in that you have a lot of freedom to explore tactical choices". With Far Cry Primal taking place in 10,000 HC, it's going to be an interesting setup indeed. Players will take control of season hunter 'Takkar', offering gamers a completely different, but similar experience to previous Far Cry games.

In Far Cry Primal, you can take violent animals - if you have the right weaponry. Taming animals isn't mandatory, but if you are skilled and equipped enough to pull it off, it adds to the Primal experience. Simon said that players can choose to complete the entire game without having to tame an animal. He added: "The game could be made easier or more difficult depending on our choices, but taming animals to fight alongside you isn't mandatory. We're going to show you how these things work, then let you explore them however you like, just like we do with every progression system in the game. You can go hardcore and never level up at all if you like, trying to go through with two bars of health and trying to stealth everything without relying on your beasts. It's up to you".

Ken Levine teases more from his upcoming 'small scale open world game'

Anthony Garreffa | Dec 19, 2015 12:32 AM CST

Ken Levine, the Game Designer behind iconic games like System Shock 2 and BioShock, we have a new small scale open world game, but there's not much we do know about it.

Levine spoke on the OnPoint podcast (if you want to listen to it, it's from 21:20) where he explained: "We started this experiment once we finished Bioshock Infinite. How do you make a narrative game, you know, kind of feel like the games we've made before, but make it replayable and make it extend and make it react to the players? Make it replayable by giving players different ways to approach the problems and letting them really dictate the experience. That is not a simple problem to solve".

"It can mean an open world game, and the thing we're working on is sort of a small scale open world game. The reason ours is an open world game is because if you want to give players the agency to drive the experience, that really fights against the linear nature of the games we've made before, like Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite," added Levine.
