Mafia 3 'The Criminal Ecology' trailer teases criminal underworld

Anthony Garreffa | Jun 12, 2016 6:15 AM CDT

E3 2016 - The E3 2016 rush is beginning, with our first tease of Battlefield 1, we now know when the second premium DLC for Star Wars: Battlefront will launch, and now we've got a new trailer to Mafia 3.

The latest trailer for Mafia 3 is dubbed 'The Criminal Ecology' with the developers teasing the research they put into the criminal underworld, rackets and missions, and how it all blends together in the game. The mobster sandbox game is shaping up well, with a GTA-like feel, but in a mobster universe. Mafia 3 producer Denby Grace notes that the extra missions are a reward for you continuing through various parts of the game, and not a way of pushing the plot forward.

Mafia 3's design director Matthias Worch talked about the similarities between the game, and real life, saying: "We've put a lot of work into actually modelling the way the mafia operates and how it kind of seeps into the foundations of the city. There are bosses who are running different parts of the city and they all have specialties, they have these big front businesses that they're using to launder money for whatever illicit things that they need to do".

Quake reboot incoming from id Software, could be teased at E3

E3 2016 - A modern Quake reboot will reportedly be id Software's next game, and it could be revealed tonight at Bethesda's E3 showcase.

Quake reboot incoming from id Software, could be teased at E3

After the huge success of Doom's modern reboot, a fully-fledged Quake reboot might be happening from id Software. Nerdleaks reports that the studio is laying preparations for a big tease at Bethesda's E3 2016 showcase tonight. I can see it now, smashing gloriously macabre machine-hell monstrosities with a huge arsenal of chaotic weapons in glorious ultra-fast 1080p 60FPS.

This isn't the first time the Quake reboot has been on our radar. id Software had 12 major job openings at its studios, obviously hinting something big was going down. The job listings also outright mentioned Quake by name: "id Software is looking for a Senior Physics & Simulation Programmer to work as part of a development team on legendary id game properties like DOOM and QUAKE," reads one of the job openings. At the time of publication there are still a dozen job openings at id's Texas branch.

A quick 30-second trailer for Dishonored 2 has been leaked, showing off some new never-before-seen tidbits about the upcoming sequel. The TV spot is told through the perspective of Empress Emily Kaldwin, and gives a clear look at the supernatural Outsider and other in-game mechanics.

We get a close glimpse at some of the powers--including what looks like a new shadow beast that can be used to scout out enemy locations--and the dual-wielding sword-and-gun combat style. The new clockwork automatons, who will play major antagonists throughout the game, were also displayed in a brief fighting sequence.

Star Wars: Battlefront's new 'Bespin' DLC will launch on June 21

Anthony Garreffa | Jun 12, 2016 4:27 AM CDT

E3 2016 - EA has announced that the second premium DLC release for Star Wars: Battlefront will drop on June 21, with Bespin to be released to Battlefront season pass holders on June 21, but it'll go on sale two weeks later to the rest of the world.

Bespin sees Battlefront gamers playing in and around Cloud City, which is an enchanting tibanna gas mining operation from The Empire Strikes Back, led by Lando Calrissian. The city's baron-administrator will also join the game, as a playable hero. This is a big deal, as it's his first non-Lego outing in a video game since the release of Star Wars: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast.

The playable bad guy will be Dengar, who is a bounty hunter and hobo, while Cloud City's iconic Twin Pod Cloud Car will be added to the vehicle fleet. Bespin will feature new weapons, with the X-8 Night Sniper, and the EE-4 blaster, as well as the infamous carbon freezing chamber. EA teases there will be new game modes, star cards, blasters and maps that will release alongside Bespin, and they should be part of the monthly update to all Star Wars: Battlefront players.

Jon Snow dons a mo-cap suit for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

Anthony Garreffa | Jun 12, 2016 3:07 AM CDT

E3 2016 - We all know that Battlefield 1 will kill this E3, and that Call of Duty is losing a lot of its shine, but Activision will still continue to push its billion-dollar franchise, with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare to be shown off during the show.

Kit Harington, who plays Jon Show in Game of Thrones is the villain of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, with Harington joining the cast of Infinite Warfare to show off its 'powerful storyline', reports Kotaku. The official Facebook page for Call of Duty posted a Live video from the motion capture set, where you can see Harington in his motion capture suit.

We will see more of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare this week during E3 2016.

Definitive #E32016 guide: all the games, livestreams, and predictions

Derek Strickland | Jun 12, 2016 2:53 AM CDT

E3 2016 - Although we've already posted up a handy E3 2016 timetable, we want to make sure everyone has all the livestream links and pertinent details for this year's huge Electronics Entertainment Expo.

Definitive #E32016 guide: all the games, livestreams, and predictions

A quick reminder: as you scan the list, you'll notice some major studios like Capcom and 2K Games/Rockstar Games are missing. Rockstar is expected to drop some huge reveals with Red Dead Redemption 2 and possibly GTA VI at E3, but we've not heard a peep from them about E3. So expect to see Red Dead Redemption 2 revealed on Sony or Microsoft's press conference--ditto for Capcom's Dead Rising 4, Resident Evil 7, and hopefully (but probably not) Devil May Cry 5. Click here for a list of all confirmed studios and companies exhibiting at E3 2016.

We'll also be pushing out news posts embedded with the E3 conference livestreams so you don't miss a single minute of the action.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided's new bullshot photos look great, but eh?

Anthony Garreffa | Jun 11, 2016 9:49 PM CDT

E3 2016 - Can you believe we're only a little over two months from the release of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided? Well, in order to kick off the huge marketing campaign headed into E3 2016, Eidos Montreal have released some new screenshots of the game.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided's new bullshot photos look great, but eh?

The new screenshots look insanely good, but they definitely have a very specific, and image enhancing sharpening filter applied - which we most likely won't experience when Deus Ex: Mankind Divided launches on August 23. The bullshots released will sell plenty of copies, but we all know the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game won't look anywhere close to what we see here, and neither will the higher-end PC version of the game. Sigh.

Game devs say its easier dealing with consoles than dealing with PCs

Anthony Garreffa | Jun 11, 2016 9:07 PM CDT

E3 2016 - We all know that there is a new PlayStation and a new Xbox on the way, but how do game developers feel about having to make their games for yet another console? Well, according to an interview with the developers of Dead Effect 2, it's "a lot easier than attempting to provide enough settings for a wild variety of PCs in the world".

The full quote from BadFly Interactive is even more interesting, where they said: "Every developer likes to get his product on as many platforms as reasonably possible, with the best possible quality. The enhanced console versions might provide enough power to support the 4K resolution and that would be definitely great. If all we had to do was to create two performance profiles, for standard and enhanced console, we're definitely interested. It would be still a lot easier than attempting to provide enough settings for a wild variety of PCs in the world".

WCCFTech also asked them if the target framerate for Dead Effect 2 on the Xbox One and PS4 would be at 60FPS, which was confirmed, with the PS4 version of the game being equal to the PC on high quality settings, while the Xbox One version will be akin to medium settings. BadFly Interactive added: "The versions we're right now tuning and testing are graphically comparable with PC high quality on PS4 and medium for Xbox One, but we're still working and looking for a ways to improve the quality. We want to keep the game at stable 60FPS on both platforms. We were considering the idea of 30fps lock while using a better quality graphics, but we've decided that smooth action play is more important, even if the visuals will have to suffer a bit".

Watch first-ever Injustice 2 gameplay footage here in full HD

The new Injustice 2 gameplay footage is jam-packed with hero-on-villain chaos, showing us some of the crazy ultimate super attacks from new characters like Atrocitus, Gorilla Grodd, Supergirl and even Black Manta. As in the first game, the sequel brawler blends cinematic-style animation sequences to showcase each character's defining moveset, and we get a good look at a bunch of different punishing ultimate moves from new and old DC heroes as well as the new dynamic armor sets.

"There was always characters we wanted to see. Atrocitus was a big one, Supergirl was huge. A lot of it was characters we didnt put in the first game, so we're excited to put them in this time around," Netherealm's Ed Boon said at the event. Ed didn't reveal anything new just yet, but promised "big things" at E3, saying that Injustice 2 will have tons of surprises for gamers. "It is everything you're going to expect in an Injustice sequel, tons of new characters and a lot of surprises you didn't expect."

It'll take more than a stunning trailer to sell me Gran Turismo Sport

Jason Evangelho | Jun 11, 2016 1:56 PM CDT

E3 2016 - One of the best pre-E3 trailers I've seen so far is Polyphony Digital's second one for the PlayStation exclusive Gran Turismo Sport. It clocks in at four minutes and twenty-two seconds, the detail of each car is breathtaking, and the energy of the trailer itself is amped way up. But it's going to take more than a beautifully produced trailer to sell me on the final product which releases this November.

I have no doubt that Polyphony Digital has risen up to the challenge issued by Turn 10 and Forza Motorsport 6 (and for that matter, Project Cars). The graphical bar seems to be set ridiculously high now, especially judging by the detail present in each car during replay footage, and the utterly gorgeous photos taken in "Scapes," Gran Turismo Sport's new Photo Mode.

This new GT Sport trailer exudes emotion, it draws out our adrenalin with some top notch live commentary, it tugs on our heart strings by showing a community of racers bonding over one thing: The Real Driving Simulator. In short, this trailer has SOUL. Unfortunately, soul is something the past 2 Gran Turismo games have lacked.

Halo Wars 2 open beta kicks off this Monday, new screenshots leaked

E3 2016 - Halo Wars 2 is getting a substantial open beta test during E3, and we've dug up more leaked details and screenshots on the upcoming RTS.

Halo Wars 2 open beta kicks off this Monday, new screenshots leaked

The Halo Wars 2 beta test will last for a full week from Monday, June 13 to Monday, June 20, according to leaked Xbox Store listings. Xbox LIVE Gold will be required to play the beta, which will feature 4-6 player online multiplayer action. The listing didn't say anything about Windows 10 PCs being included in the beta, but remember Halo Wars 2 is coming to both Xbox and PC, so it's possible.

A huge batch of screenshots (scroll down for more) for the tactical warfare sequel were dumped on Reddit, revealing a ton of familiar vehicles and squads and a few new ones. Interestingly enough, the screenshots didn't show off any of the crazy-looking Brute forces that are depicted in Halo Wars 2's leaked key art.

Microsoft pulls free Fallout 4 from all players, gives $10 credit

If you downloaded Fallout 4 for free, Microsoft has yanked your license--but they've also gifted you Xbox Store credit.

Microsoft pulls free Fallout 4 from all players, gives $10 credit

Just a few days ago, Fallout 4 and all of its DLC was marked as free on the Xbox One marketplace. Thousands of gamers took advantage of this pricing error on Microsoft's part, and were able to jump into the game for a bit. Of course Microsoft quickly resolved the situation, fixing the price and pulling all game licenses from players who didn't pay. In a rather stunning effort of goodwill and generosity, Redmond has given everyone who took advantage of the pricing error $10 in Xbox Store credit--just enough to change your GamerTag for free.

"Our pricing error on Fallout 4 has been fixed and your free download will no longer work. For the inconvenience we will deposit $10 by the end of June in your Microsoft Account. This expires one year from the time it was deposited," reads the message Microsoft gave to Xbox LIVE users.

EA shows off new Titanfall 2 teaser clip ahead of E3

Derek Strickland | Jun 11, 2016 3:06 AM CDT

E3 2016 - EA has just shown off a quick Titanfall 2 teaser clip ahead of Sunday's huge EA Play showcase, and we deliver a quick recap to get you primed for the reveal.

EA shows off new Titanfall 2 teaser clip ahead of E3

Although we haven't officially seen Respawn's Titanfall 2 in action just yet, the sequel is shaping up to be quite impressive. The newest teaser clip is just 12 seconds long and doesn't give us too much, but we know quite a bit about Titanfall 2 thanks to recent leaks.

For example, the sequel will feature a a "ton" of new operator abilities like a grappling hook that can be "extensively used" to perform devastating combos. Oh, and titans will have swords and possibly other melee weapons to play around with this time. We also know Titanfall 2 will have more space in its multiplayer maps, offering a bigger playground for dynamic combat sequences. Player count has also been boosted to accommodate the expansive maps.

Gamer builds DIY controller out of a potato to play Skyrim

A skilled DIY tecchie makes a working controller out of a potato--and you can too.

Gamer builds DIY controller out of a potato to play Skyrim

Gamers have done some amazing things over the years--we've seen hardcore players like gbbearzly smash Dark Souls bosses with Rock Band guitars, drums, and even his own voice--and even awesome inventions like a tiny SNES console that fits in your pocket, or a retro-themed GameBoy. But now it's time for potato controllers!

YouTuber BOOM exploits the natural electrical conductivity of a potato to rig up a makeshift controller out of potato slices to play Skyrim. And yes, it really works. Sure it doesn't work too well, but it definitely works. Each potato slice is hooked up to a Makey Makey logic board via simple wires, essentially creating corresponding buttons on a controller. BOOM has even created a step-by-step tutorial so you can make your own custom spud controller.

Standalone Gwent card game to be announced at E3 2016

Derek Strickland | Jun 11, 2016 12:54 AM CDT

E3 2016 - CD Projekt RED is set to show off a standalone Gwent card game at E3 2016.

Standalone Gwent card game to be announced at E3 2016

Gwent is one of the best things about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The simple-yet-infinitely-complex card game is arguably one of (if not the) most entertaining mini-games of all time, and even gives Final Fantasy VIII's epic Triple Triad a run for its money. Now it looks like CD Projekt RED is taking the epic Witcher past-time to the next level with its own game--but it won't be a physical trading card game, just a video game.

According to Nerd Leaks, the Polish developer has trademarked "Gwent: The Card Game" and an official logo, pretty much ensuring we'll see an E3 reveal. Remember that CD Projekt RED teased a new "experimental game" for 2016, and the Gwent card game is almost assuredly it. I expect to see the Gwent game released on mobiles devices, consoles, and PC, all with online cross-play, but hopefully CDPR won't take the freemium F2P microtransaction approach with the game.

Blizzard may nerf Overwatch's Widowmaker

Sean Ridgeley | Jun 10, 2016 2:05 PM CDT

Earlier this week, Blizzard made it known Overwatch's McCree was due for a nerf and D.Va was due for a buff. Turns out the team is looking at the French femme fatale Widowmaker as well.

A forum post asking if the developer is considering toning her down reads, "In both pub matches and competitive play, she is by far the most dominant hero in the game. Multiple factors like too high bodyshot damage, shots that recharge too quickly, SMG that is almost as powerful as S:76's Pulse Rifle, an extremely powerful ultimate that is not clearly announced to the enemy team, etc."

Blizzard game director Jeff Kaplan then responds, "Widowmaker is on our radar. We are discussing her. We have some internal experiments going to see if we can keep her viable while lowering the frustration threshold a little bit. Right now, this is just exploration. If something more comes of it, we'll let you know."

PlayStation 4K: Everything you need to know

Derek Strickland | Jun 10, 2016 9:08 AM CDT

E3 2016 - Sony explains exactly how the new upgraded PlayStation 4K will live alongside the PS4, confirming key features we've been reporting on for some time.

PlayStation 4K: Everything you need to know

Now that Sony has officially confirmed the new upgraded 4K-ready PlayStation Neo is indeed coming, it's important to understand what the system is and how it'll affect current PS4 owners. The PS4K marks the first step towards the new iterative console cycle, meaning consoles will release every 2-3 years instead of every 5-7 years.

As such, the 4K-ready PS4 Neo will live alongside the existing PS4 instead of replacing it. This effectively means the PS4K will be an optional upgrade over the existing PS4, offering extra features like 4K Blu-ray playback, upscaling 1080p games to 4K, and more hardware to power the PlayStation VR headset. "[The PS4K] is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4. We will be selling both [consoles] through the life cycle," Sony Interactive Entertainment President Andrew House told Financial Times.

Sony officially confirms new 4K-ready PlayStation 4K console

Derek Strickland | Jun 10, 2016 7:07 AM CDT

E3 2016 - Sony has officially confirmed the new upgraded PlayStation 4K (PS4 Neo, PS4.5) is in fact real, but it won't be shown at E3 2016.

Sony officially confirms new 4K-ready PlayStation 4K console

Sony Interactive Entertainment President Andrew House confirmed the PlayStation 4K's existence in a recent interview with Financial Times, saying the console is targeted at "hardcore gamers", and asserting the "PS4 Neo" will indeed support 4K resolution. The "high-end" PlayStation 4K will be more expensive then the $350 PS4.

House also confirmed the upgraded PS4K won't replace existing PS4s, instead complimenting the systems in a new ecosystem. "It is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4. We will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle," he said. House went on to announce that the PlayStation 4K will be fully backward compatible with all existing PS4 games, confirming past reports. "All games will support the standard PS4 and we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4," he said.
