Lian Li's vertical GPU mount lets you tilt your GPU, even a four-slot RTX 5090
With the rise of PC cases with panoramic views, alongside the increased size of enthusiast graphics cards in recent years, the idea of vertically mounting a GPU is becoming increasingly common. And when it comes to brackets and riser cables to support the latest PCIe 5.0 cards like the GeForce RTX 50 and Radeon RX 9000 Series, Lian Li's new 'Multi-Directional Vertical GPU Bracket Kit' might just be the ultimate solution.
This all-in-one solution not only supports vertical orientation for GPUs, but it also allows forward and backward tilting, as well as a three-level height adjustment (with 10.16mm increments) for improved airflow for bottom-mounted fans or radiators.
The Multi-Directional Vertical GPU Bracket Kit mounts directly to the motherboard standoffs for secure installation and is built to support all modern GPUs, with its reinforced support arm rated up to 10kg. Lian Li notes that this will prevent GPU sag, while also supporting the largest quad-slot GPUs.
AMD CPU roadmap leaks tease 'Gator Range' and 'Medusa Point + Halo' Zen 6 CPUs for 2027
We have been enjoying a bunch of leaked details on AMD's next-gen Zen 6-based "Gator Range", "Medusa Point" and "Medusa Halo" processors, and now another leaked roadmap teases the new chips will drop in 2027.
In a new post on X by leaker @momomo_us who has shared a roadmap for mobile CPUs from one of the OEMs that works with Intel and AMD, it teases some of the CPU releases in the coming years. AMD has confirmed its upcoming Gorgon Point series earlier this year, expected on the Zen 5 architecture, and pretty much being an update to the successful Strix Point APU series.
The roadmap shows that we won't see any refreshes in enthusiast and elite tiers of AMD processors this year, with Fire Range and Strix Halo updates not planned until 2027. Gator Range and Medusa Point are listed for 2027, and will both be using the next-gen Zen 6 architecture.
ROG Xbox Ally X runs DOOM: The Dark Ages at 1080p 70 FPS with ray-tracing
The ROG Xbox Ally X is coming in October, with this collaboration between ASUS and Microsoft serving as the first taste of the company's next-gen plans for Xbox hardware. It's a Windows 11 gaming PC; however, with an optimized version of the OS, the first Xbox-branded PC gaming handheld is set to present a more intuitive Steam Deck-like experience than we've seen to date.
Powered by the new AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme Processor with integrated Radeon Graphics and an XDNA NPU that offers up to 50 TOPS of performance, the flagship ROG Xbox Ally X also sports a vibrant 120 Hz 1080p display and 24GB of LPDDR5X memory. Impressive stuff, and with a price tag of around $900 (the non-X model is set to be cheaper), you might be wondering what sort of performance it delivers, natively, when playing a modern AAA title.
Well, according to @carygolomb on X, who went hands-on with the ROG Ally X at Gamescom 2025, playing DOOM: The Dark Ages, the premium PC gaming handheld hit an impressive 70 FPS at 1080p with ray-tracing enabled. And that's with the unit drawing 28W of total system power. However, this jaw-dropping performance for a PC gaming handheld comes with a long list of caveats.
Noctua wants to create a custom GeForce RTX 5090, but there aren't enough chips
A couple of weeks ago, ASUS and Noctua's latest GPU collaboration launched with the release of the ASUS GeForce RTX 5080 Noctua Edition. Sporting three of the company's second-generation Noctua NF-A12x25 G2 120mm fans, an advanced vapor chamber, and other high-quality thermal bits and pieces, it's reportedly one of the quietest high-end GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards on the market.
It's also one of the largest, as putting three Noctua fans on a GPU that you'd typically associate with PC and radiator cooling means that the GeForce RTX 5080 Noctua Edition is a big boy. With dimensions of 385x151x80 mm, it's a rare quad-slot GPU. However, it also ships with a generous +115 MHz increase to the Boost Clock, so you're getting overclocked performance.
As a premium and custom GPU with cooling designed in collaboration with Noctua, if you're wondering why ASUS and Noctua didn't team up to create a custom (and near-silent) GeForce RTX 5090, the answer is simple. Getting access to the RTX 5090's GB202 chip is increasingly difficult due to shortages and the insatiable demand for high-end NVIDIA hardware for AI.
Abxylute preps its new 11-inch 3D gaming handheld powered by Intel Lunar Lake CPU, costs $1699
Abxylute is preparing to launch its new glasses-free 3D gaming handheld, the new Abxylute 3D One, which will go on sale in late September or early October for $1699.
The Abxylute 3D One started off as the Sunday Dragon 3D One which was co-developed between Intel and Tencent Games, but now Abxylute has taken over and will sell the new Windows-based, Intel Lunar Lake-powered Abxylute 3D One gaming handheld.
The new gaming handheld features a huge 10.95-inch display with a native 2560 x 1600 (1600p) resolution and super-smooth 120Hz refresh, with an interesting hardware toggle that switches between 2D and 3D viewing modes, with a stereoscopic effect delivered through an eye-tracking system.
PlayStation boss on Concord, live games: 'We want to fail early, and fail cheaply'
PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst comments on the disaster of Concord and Sony's current plans for more live service games.
PlayStation makes most of its money from microtransactions--$8.7 billion in FY24--so it's no surprise that Sony chased the money with its games-as-a-service plan. Sony initially wanted to release 12 live games by March 2026 but that plan was significantly cut after Concord's expensive $250 million failure. Now Sony is much more reserved with its PlayStation live game ambitions, relying on existing games like Gran Turismo 7, MLB The Show, Destiny 2, and Helldivers 2 to pull in money while work continues on new titles like Bungie's now-delayed extraction shooter Marathon, as well as Haven Studio's Fairgames.
Now we have new comments from PlayStation boss Hermen Hulst on the topic. In a recent interview with The Financial Times, Hulst says that he'd prefer if Sony's live games didn't leave craterous holes in organizational budgets when they fail: "I don't want teams to always play it safe. But when we do fail, I would like for us to fail early and cheaply."
Death Stranding 3 concept already written by Kojima, but he wants someone else to make it
Hideo Kojima has a rough concept on a potential third game in the Death Stranding franchise, but nothing's been confirmed just yet...and it doesn't sound like Kojima wants to work on another huge AAA project again.
Death Stranding 2 just released, and sales estimates indicate the game is doing well. Long-term success could prime the series for a trilogy-ending third chapter, and Hideo Kojima was asked about Death Stranding 3 at the World Strand Tour in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
"I'm not planning to do that, at the moment," Kojima said when questioned about DS3.
Overwatch 2 Season 18 will have biggest Stadium evolution yet, new support Hero, and more
Overwatch 2 Season 18 is right around the corner, with Blizzard teasing that the developer has the biggest Stadium evolution for the game yet, a new support Hero called Wuyang, a full PvP refresh with Perks update, and so much more.
Stadium will continue to level up with new Hero additions, new ways to and places to play, fresh features, and a new Item pool. Team comps will change with the introduction of Winston, Brigitte, Pharah, and (later in the season) Tracer, which joins the Stadium Hero rotation.
Blizzard is changing things up with Stadium and its new Quick Play Queue speeds that increase the action with a faster, lighter version of Stadium, which results in shorter matches, a rapid-fire economy, and Backfill + Cross Play support. Draft Mode works like a pre-game huddle, where your team can counter-pick and out-think the opponents before the first shots are even fired.
NVIDIA silently launches record-breaking mini PC, flexing a tiny compact powerhouse
NVIDIA has just unveiled what it says is the fastest mini PC it has ever released. Introducing the Jetson AGX Thor Developer Kit, a mini PC capable of 2070 TFLOPS.
Team Green has added one more model to its expanding Jetson lineup of consumer-facing AI PCs, with the new system, called the Jetson AGX Thor Developer kit, which comes with the Jetson T5000 system-on-module (SoM), which is built on NVIDIA's latest Blackwell architecture. NVIDIA is aiming the mini PC directly at developers working in robotics, engineering, and other various edge workloads.
As for the Jetson T5000 SoM, the 2070 TFLOPS of performance can be attributed to the 2560-core Blackwell-based GPU that features 96 fifth-generation Tensor Cores and Multi-Instance GPU features. Other specifications include the system coming with a 14-core Arm Neoverse-V3AE CPU, 128GB of LPDDR5X memory, four 25GbE network connectors, and support for NVMe storage through PCIe slots.
AMD Ryzen 5 5500X3D performance leaks: so far a good budget Zen 3 CPU
AMD's latest addition to the Zen 3 family of processors has appeared on Geekbench, and it appears we have quite a strong CPU on our hands, at least when it comes to synthetic tests.
The new CPU is the Ryzen 5 5500X3D, which AMD launched this year in June. The Ryzen 5500X3D isn't currently available to purchase, but it has now shown up on Geekbench, where it has scored 1936 in single-core performance and 9292 in multi-core. Reports indicate PassMark tests of the Ryzen 5 5500X3D were posted in early August, showcasing the 5500X3D, unsurprisingly, beat the Ryzen 5 5500 in multi-threaded performance. Now with these Geekbench scores, those PassMark scores are somewhat verified.
While Geekbench isn't the be-all and end-all of benchmark tests for CPUs, it does give us a closer look at the expected performance of the upcoming processor in comparison to the Ryzen 5 5500, and judging by the scores, the upcoming CPU appears to be in quite a good spot. For example, in multi-core testing, the 5500X3D performed nearly 13% better than its non-X3D sibling in Geekbench, while in PassMark, the X3D model scored just 6% better than the non-X3D model. These tests were conducted on Linux.

DOOM can now be played on a power bank with a 2.26-inch LCD display
Developers from around the world have made it their mission to get the 1993 classic title DOOM to run on the most novel devices, and the latest device added to the growing list is an Anker Prime GaN charger.
Getting DOOM to run on an unconventional device has become its own benchmark in a way, as it tests the skill of the developer and showcases the intense flexibility of the classic title. To demonstrate how much developers enjoy getting DOOM to run on devices you would never expect, here's a short list of the devices that have successfully been able to play the game:
The Anker Prime GaN charger features a 480 x 200-pixel 2.26-inch LCD display along with a Synwit AWM34S ARM SoC. The chip is running at 150MHz and has 8MB of SDRAM along with 16MB of flash storage. Those specifications are more than enough to support DOOM. Additionally, the game was loaded onto the device without any hardware mods as the developer used the built-in debugging header.

Hollow Knight reaches 33K peak players on Steam after Silksong reveal
The original Hollow Knight game is seeing a surge in popularity as fans eagerly anticipate Silksong's impending release.
After years of development, Hollow Knight Silksong is finally coming out in two weeks. To say that fans are excited is an understatement; the Silksong release date reveal has gotten over 4 million views on YouTube, a view count that's very close to Silksong's reveal trailer from 2019. This indicates that the same people who were excited before are still excited now.
The buzz over Silksong has led to more success for the first game. Hollow Knight has seen an influx of players on Steam, where it just reached 33,062 peak players for the first time. The previous record for Hollow Knight's peak players had been set in May 2022 with little over 20,000 people.

Borderlands 4's new 'cross-license' system breaks weapon manufacturer mod exclusivity
Borderlands 4's new cross-licensing part system gives players unprecedented freedom like never before, Gearbox explains.
A bit ago, Gearbox announced that Borderlands 4 would have 30 billion guns. That's roughly 30x the astronomical amount of guns that could spawn in the previous game. How is this possible?
To ramp up all the different permutations and combinations, Gearbox essentially broke weapon mod exclusivity in Borderlands 4. Now gun modifiers aren't locked to a single manufacturer, and a gun can spawn with mods from multiple arms-makers like Maliwan, Torgue, Atlas, etc. It's something that the studio is very excited about, especially company CEO Randy Pitchford.
Borderlands creator Randy Pitchford was hands-off on Borderlands movie: 'I'm not a filmmaker'
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford says that he didn't have a ton of creative control over the Borderlands movie despite being executive producer on the project.
At a time video game adaptations like The Last of Us, The Super Mario Bros Movie, Minecraft, and the recent Fallout TV show are all finding big success, there's one film that missed the mark completely: The ill-fated Borderlands movie.
Unlike its peers, the Borderlands film was a commercial and critical flop. It was plagued by production issues, with director and co-writer Eli Roth being absent for a good portion of the film, forcing reshoots from Deadpool director Tim Miller. So what went wrong? Why isn't the movie more like the games? Interestingly enough, there wasn't a lot of creative input from series creator Randy Pitchford.
New Gears of War movie won't be out in time for Gears E-Day in 2026
Gears of War film producers David Leitch and Kelly McCormick give an update on the new Netflix movie, confirming it won't be out in time to capitalize on the series' next mainline game launch.
A new Gears of War movie is in development at production company 87North, with Deadpool 2 director David Leitch attached as director of the film. Unfortunately, the Gears of War adaptation won't align with the release of Gears of War E-Day, the next big game in the multi-decade video game franchise.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, 87North's Kelly McCormick says that the Gears movie will miss the release date of Gears of War E-Day, which is expected to launch in 2026. So far, Microsoft has successfully capitalized on its transmedia adaptations, with the Fallout series on Amazon Prime directly leading to a mighty surge in video game sales. Xbox also took over the PlayStation Store in May in no small part due to the Minecraft movie.

Original Michael Myers actor Nick Castle returns for new Halloween game
Original Michael Myers actor Nick Castle is returning for the new Halloween game, with developer Illfonic aiming to deliver the authentic creeping terror straight from the 1978 film.
A new Halloween game is in the works with old-school horror film director John Carpenter attached as executive producer. It will be a multiplayer cat-and-mouse game where one player hunts down three others as Michael Myers, all set in 1978 Haddonfield, complete with a singleplayer story mode where you experience the first movie through Michael's perspective. Everyone involved is pretty serious about making the game look and feel as close to the original film as possible--that's why original Michael Myers actor Nick Castle has returned to reprise the role of the iconic boogeyman.
"Although it may be slightly different than the one he wore on film in 1978, Nick Castle put back on a suit to deliver the iconic walk, movements, and kills as only the OG Michael Myers could," the production team behind the game writes.
Roblox loses $12 billion in market cap amid ongoing child predator controversy
Roblox found itself in the boiling pot after it banned a creator who makes videos catching child predators on the Roblox platform. Now the company's market cap has dropped by $12 billion.
The Roblox stock price began to tumble after the company threatened to sue child predator hunter "Schlep," who makes videos about catching real-life child predators operating on the Roblox platform. Schlep has claimed to be involved in the arrest of six individuals participating in this activity, and Roblox recently sent him a cease and desist letter informing him that all his accounts are banned.
Schlep responded to the cease and desist letter by posting a video to, at the time, 640,000 subscribers, and now 1.62 million subscribers, explaining what had happened. Schlep added that he experienced grooming by an individual on Roblox when he was younger, and that his motivation behind his child predator-catching activities on Roblox is to prevent what happened to him from happening to other children using the platform.
Microsoft's new Advanced Shader Delivery game tech uses the cloud to reduce friction
Microsoft is going all-in on handhelds, including some pretty big optimizations in how games are delivered via DirectX.
One of the most annoying things about modern gaming is having to wait. Users already have to wait for their games to download, and gamers playing on an ROG Ally, Legion Go, or Steam Deck often have to wait extra time for the game to do something called "compiling shaders." This is a maddening phrase that's caused a lot of enmity and confusion among average consumers who just paid a lot of money for a device and a game, and simply just want to play.
Microsoft knows about this high level of friction, and has a solution: Advanced Shader Delivery. This was made specifically for handhelds like the new ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. Essentially, Microsoft is rolling out tech that will eliminate the dreaded compiling shaders wait times. Instead, Microsoft will use its new shader delivery to pre-configure game files ahead of time.
Developer sentenced to prison after nuking corporate network with revenge malware
A former developer at power management company Eaton has been sentenced to prison after unleashing revenge malware on the company's network.
The former developer is 55-year-old Davis Lu, who spent 12 years at Eaton before he decided to take down its network with malware. Why did Lu turn on his employer? During his time at the company, Lu climbed the corporate flagpole to the level of senior developer of emerging technology, but then Eaton went through a restructuring phase that resulted in Lu being demoted. Following this bad news, Lu installed a "kill switch" that was designed to activate if the company removed his local network access.
The malware was in the form of a Java program that was designed to generate increasing numbers of non-terminating threads in an infinite loop, which would eventually exceed the server's resources and crash the network. Lu labelled this malware as "IsDLEnabledinAD," which stands for "Is Davis Lu enabled in Active Directory," and uploaded it using his corporate credentials. Eaton unknowingly activated the malware when Lu was terminated from his position on September 9, 2019.
