Battlefield 6 Phantom Edition-exclusive skins leak, and they aren't Call of Duty-goofy

Jak Connor | Gaming | Aug 23, 2025 12:54 AM CDT

Battlefield 6's open beta weekend has wrapped up, and DICE has announced the title will be receiving a bunch of new changes ahead of its official release in October. Ahead of the BF6 debut, a leaker group has uploaded images of the skins that will be exclusive to Phantom Edition buyers.

Battlefield 6 Phantom Edition-exclusive skins leak, and they aren't Call of Duty-goofy

The leak comes from 1BF, who sourced the images of the skins in the latest build of Battlefield Labs, the testing ground for the title. Battlefield 6 launches on October 10, and it will be arriving in two editions: the Standard Edition and the Phantom Edition. The Phantom Edition will feature cosmetics that come in the form of soldier skins, weapon packages, vehicle skins, stickers, XP boosts, and more. The Phantom Edition-exclusive skins will feature four skins, one for each class.

For those doing a comparison between the skins in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and the skins in BF6, you will quickly notice that DICE has opted for a much more subtle aesthetic as none of the skins change your soldier into a robot/cyborg. Instead, the skins are much more grounded and more in line with what real soldiers would wear. Below is an image of the skins that are part of Black Ops 7: Vault Edition, the premium edition of the upcoming game.

Minisforum MS-S1 Max Mini AI workstation teased: AMD Strix Halo APU, USB4 V2 80Gbps port

The upcoming Minisforum MS-S1 Max Mini AI workstation is powered by the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 "Strix Halo" APU that features 16 cores and 32 threads of Zen 5 processing power, and a powerful RDNA 3.5-based Radeon 8060S integrated GPU. Minisforum has its new Mini-PC workstation capped at 160W for peak workloads, all inside of a small 3.2L chassis.

If the RDNA 3.5-based Radeon 8060S GPU isn't powerful enough for your liking, the Minisforum MS-S1 Max Mini AI workstation features support for dedicated graphics cards through a PCIe x16 slot, but without knowing how much clearance is inside, we don't know what type of GPU will fit... but the RTX 5090 is definitely ruled out at this size and PSU limits, obviously.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has confirmed that his company has six different Rubin chips in the ovens at TSMC, gearing up for trial production right now.

NVIDIA CEO says Rubin GPU is the company's 'most advanced' AI architecture, cooking at TSMC now

Jensen is in Taiwan right now for important meetings with key executives at TSMC, with local Taiwanese media talking to Jensen who confirmed that NVIDIA has already taped out six different Rubin chips -- including new CPUs and GPUs -- and that they're at TSMC being prepared for trial production.

The NVIDIA CEO mentioned that the new Rubin chips include a dedicated CPU, GPU, scale-up NVLink Switch, and a new silicon photonics processor, which means the entire stack is getting a huge Rubin-infused upgrade. Rubin is a different beast to Blackwell and Hopper, as the changes to Rubin are from the ground up: HBM, the process node, design, and more.

US government approves $8.9 billion equity stake in Intel, contingency plan for its foundry biz

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | Aug 22, 2025 7:12 PM CDT

President Trump has just announced the US government has secured a 10% stake worth around $8.9 billion in Intel, calling it a "great deal" and that it's now likely to be replicated with other semiconductor companies in the near future.

US government approves $8.9 billion equity stake in Intel, contingency plan for its foundry biz

The Trump administration plans to convert $7.9 billion of CHIPS Act grants meant for Intel into equity, and as an inducement to re-shore chip fabrication onto American soil, as well as the $3 billion grant that Intel received under the Secure Enclave program from the Pentagon.

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan posted on X saying: "Just met with President Trump to announce a historic agreement: the U.S. government is investing $8.9B in @Intel to boost American semiconductor leadership. I'm excited about the work ahead to ensure the most advanced silicon technology and computing products of the future are designed and built right here in the USA".

BioShock developer Cloud Chamber has had its ranks diminished by heavy layoffs as publisher Take-Two Interactive takes control over the next game.

BioShock 4 devs lay off 1/3rd of studio shortly after hiring superstar manager

The next BioShock game has been in development for about 10 years, and new updates show that it won't be out for another few years. Sources tell Bloomberg's Jason Schreier about the current state of BioShock and the team that's making it.

Game dev studio Cloud Chamber has had its staff reduced by nearly 1/3rd, with 30% of employees being laid off. This reorganizational reduction affected about 80 out of the 250 people that work at the studio. The significant drop in personnel will delay BioShock 4 even further, with reports saying that Cloud Chamber and 2K had originally wanted to release the game by the end of 2026 or in Q1 2027.

Siri is so broken that Apple might let Google fix it with Gemini

Jak Connor | Artificial Intelligence | Aug 22, 2025 2:02 PM CDT

Apple is long overdue to release its next-generation version of Siri, which the company used as marketing to sell its latest generation of iPhone. Unfortunately for consumers and Apple, that release never happened, and instead, consumers got only a few AI-powered upgrades in the form of image editors, custom emoji makers, and several other smaller quality-of-life features.

Siri is so broken that Apple might let Google fix it with Gemini

The big selling points of the latest generation of iPhone were an AI-powered upgrade was for Siri, which would enable deep Siri integration into all of Apple's homebrewed applications and settings. Essentially, Siri would become smart.

However, due to Siri's struggles to meet Apple's extremely high standard for public release, the assistant's level-up has been delayed indefinitely. We are now hearing that the assistant may be powered by a third-party vendor, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or even Google.

Gearbox and Take-Two have high aspirations for Borderlands 4 sales.

Borderlands 4 expected to sell 6 million units at launch, Gearbox has extremely high confidence

In a recent interview with Insider Gaming, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford said some very optimistic things about sales figures. Borderlands 4 was embroiled in a pricing controversy just months ago, with gamers fearing an $80 price tag due to comments from Pitchford...but the game ended up priced at $70. Now with that hurdle out of the way, both Gearbox and Take-Two expect big numbers.

According to the interview, Pitchford excitedly states that Borderlands 4 will push the entire franchise past the 100 million sales mark: "A lot of people predicted that Borderlands wasn't going to work. Now here we are with [Borderlands having become a] franchise. We will break 100 million units with this launch, easy."

Want a blower-style NVIDIA RTX 5090 GPU from a US retailer? AFOX has one but it'll cost you $6K

Darren Allan | Graphics Cards | Aug 22, 2025 12:50 PM CDT

A US retailer is selling a blower-style RTX 5090 graphics card which is a dual-slot effort, but if you want this spin on the Blackwell flagship, it's seriously pricey - and the GPU comes with other caveats, too.

This is the AFOX GeForce RTX 5090 32GB Professional graphics card and it is being sold by HydraCluster Tech Builds for a towering $5,999 - which is supposedly $500 off the retail price (add seasoning now, and lots of it).

Tom's Hardware picked up on VideoCardz originally noticing the new RTX 5090, which as noted is a two-slot affair - but it's anything but compact in its other dimensions, certainly in terms of its beefy width.

Biggest Battlefield 6 map leak silences 'it only has small maps' jokes

Jak Connor | Gaming | Aug 22, 2025 12:24 PM CDT

Battlefield 6's open beta weekends have wrapped up, and EA, along with the developers, has published a community update on the changes they will be making to the game ahead of its public release.

Biggest Battlefield 6 map leak silences 'it only has small maps' jokes

One of the criticisms of the public beta was the lack of map variants for all game modes, and, particularly, the size of the available maps. At the time, DICE and EA intentionally curated the selection of maps in the beta weekends to make sure the "full-octane version of Battlefield" was achieved. Additionally, the smaller maps were selected to see what Battlefield 6 is like at its highest tempo. Now that those tests are complete, EA has confirmed the full release of Battlefield 6 will feature larger maps, and the biggest map seen so far has just leaked online.

This isn't the first time we have heard of the map Mirak Valley, as a few days ago, datamining resulted in two maps being leaked in the form of extremely high resolution renders. However, new leaks have emerged that claim Battlefield 6 will feature "Mirak Valley and the remake of Operation Firestorm from Battlefield 3 will be playable in the upcoming Battlefield Labs testing," meaning they will both be playable in the public game when it releases.

Copilot AI could take control of your browser one day, Edge users - based on a clue in testing

Darren Allan | Artificial Intelligence | Aug 22, 2025 11:05 AM CDT

It may sound unlikely, but it's possible that Microsoft could bring functionality to Edge so that users can let Copilot take control of their browser - a feature already available more broadly in the enterprise world.

Leopeva64, a regular leaker of browser-related bits and pieces, discovered a new flag in the Canary version of Edge which allows for enabling a WebUI overlay for a banner that reads: 'Copilot is in control right now'.

This appears to be the very first hint in test builds of Edge that the browser could get a feature whereby Copilot interacts with the web page currently displayed via simulated clicks or key presses.

NVIDIA suspends production on H20 chip over security concerns

Jak Connor | Graphics Cards | Aug 22, 2025 10:35 AM CDT

NVIDIA has reportedly halted production of its H20 AI chip that is designed specifically for the Chinese market, with NVIDIA sending notifications to Arizona-based Amkor Technology and Samsung Electronics to stop manufacturing.

NVIDIA suspends production on H20 chip over security concerns

NVIDIA's AI chips, specifically the H20, are yet again up in the air. The sale of AI chips to China has been nothing short of a fiasco, with NVIDIA initially set to lose a staggering $5.5 billion over trade restrictions implemented on China for high-powered AI chips. These trade restrictions were set to ensure the US remains at the top of the global AI race, and at the time cited national security risks as China would use NVIDIA's GPUs to develop a sophisticated AI that the Chinese military could then utilize.

Only a month later, the H20, which is a heavily modified version of the H100 GPU, was banned from entering China. However, by July, the US government had changed its stance on NVIDIA chips sold to China. NVIDIA was able to secure a license, which would approve exporting the H20 to China, provided that 15% of the revenue from these sales would be directly allocated to the US government.

AMD's next-gen GPU naming could be Radeon PTX, with RDNA 5 ready for path-traced games in 2027

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Aug 22, 2025 9:09 AM CDT

AMD could change the game with its next-gen Radeon GPU release, renaming the new RDNA 5-based graphics cards to the Radeon PTX series... and there's a (pretty) good reason for that.

AMD's next-gen GPU naming could be Radeon PTX, with RDNA 5 ready for path-traced games in 2027

Moore's Law is Dead covers the topic in his new video, pondering whether AMD should redo its branding with the new Radeon PTX naming scheme, given the ray tracing and path tracing performance inside of RDNA 5. In his video, MLID says that we could see AMD change up the naming scheme for the next-gen RDNA 5-based Radeon GPUs, with the AT3 GPU called the Radeon PTX 1060 XT, and the AT4 GPU called the Radeon PTX 1050 XT.

You might be thinking what the hell "PTX" is, well... NVIDIA rebranded from GeForce GTX to GeForce RTX for the rise of Ray Tracing (RT + X = RTX) so AMD could do something similar with PTX (PT = Path Tracing + X).

Elden Ring on Switch 2 is in shambles, Bandai forbids any gameplay capture

The Nintendo Switch 2 version of FromSoftware's critically acclaimed title Elden Ring is officially called Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, and the current state of the game is seemingly living up to its name, as reports indicate the port is in a dire state.

Nintendo Life has written that it was among the few able to try out the unreleased title at Gamescom, and speaking to Kotaku, reporter Felix Sanchez said, "It's really bad, and I understand why they don't want you to see this, because wowie zowie, it is terrible. Of course, you're never going to see the light of this-maybe it will just release in that state, but I can't imagine they will do that-It was like playing Ocarina of Time. It was like 20 frames per second, sometimes I was like, 'This has dropped [to] 15 frames per second.'"

AMD graphics card with 12VHPWR connectors are now melting

Jak Connor | Graphics Cards | Aug 22, 2025 6:31 AM CDT

We have heard about 12VHPWR connectors melting on NVIDIA's RTX 40 series graphics cards, but never on AMD cards.

AMD graphics card with 12VHPWR connectors are now melting

That discrepancy was due to AMD never adopting the newer power connector standard with the company's latest generation of graphics cards, as AMD explicitly stated it was sticking with the 2x 8-pin connectors for their reliability. After the fiasco of melting connectors with NVIDIA's high-end RTX 40-series GPUs, this even became a selling point for AMD graphics cards.

However, with the RX 9000 series, some partners, such as ASRock, decided to adopt the 12VHPWR connector, and now we have the first report of a melting 12VHPWR connector on an AMD Radeon graphics card. The user reporting the melting was rocking an ASRock Radeon RX 9070 XT Taichi OC, and judging by the details from the user, there were a few reasons as to why it melted.

Battlefield 6 gameplay designer responds to controversial movement changes

Jak Connor | Gaming | Aug 22, 2025 6:01 AM CDT

The open beta weekends for Battlefield 6 have concluded, and the developers behind the highly anticipated title have posted a community update on the changes they plan to make based on player feedback.

Battlefield 6 gameplay designer responds to controversial movement changes

The community update was posted to EA's official website and details several interesting changes developers will be making ahead of the public release of Battlefield 6. One of those changes is readjustments to the movement mechanics.

According to the update, movement mechanics have been adjusted to create a more balanced and traditional Battlefield experience, with nerfs specifically to the horizontal speed carried from a slide into a jump. This change seems to be targeting Call of Duty players who commonly slide and jump around corners to get the drop on an unsuspecting opponent.

AMD's next-gen Medusa Halo APU specs leak: up to 24 cores, powerful 48 CUs of RDNA 5 GPU

Anthony Garreffa | Processors | Aug 22, 2025 2:22 AM CDT

AMD's next-generation Medusa Halo APU will be a huge release in 2027, offering gaming performance at RTX 5070 Ti levels, and now we've got some more spec leaks to look over.

AMD's next-gen Medusa Halo APU specs leak: up to 24 cores, powerful 48 CUs of RDNA 5 GPU

In a new video from leaker Moore's Law is Dead, we have the Medusa Halo APU on the FP12 + FP11 socket, with its Zen 6 Core Chiplets fabbed on TSMC's fresh N2P process node, and the IOD chiplet on N3P. MLID says we can expect 12 Zen 6 cores with 2 Zen 6 LP cores (and an optional 12C Zen 6 CCD) meaning we would see up to 26 cores on Medusa Halo in total.

On the GPU side of things, the Medusa Halo APU features 48 CUs of RDNA 5-based integrated GPU with 20MB of L2 cache, with MLID noting that the L2 cache size is extrapolated from information in previous RDNA 5 leaks. This is up from the 40 CUs of RDNA 3.5 inside of the powerful Strix Halo APU that's already on the market.

AMD accidentally posted FSR 4's source code as part of its FidelityFX SDK 2.0 launch

Kosta Andreadis | Graphics Cards | Aug 22, 2025 12:57 AM CDT

With the release of AMD's FidelityFX SDK 2.0, FSR 4 is finally available for all game developers, with integration available via signed DLLs. And to make things super easy for developers creating titles with Unreal Engine 5, this update also includes an Unreal Engine 5 plugin for developers to add FSR 4 support in games.

AMD accidentally posted FSR 4's source code as part of its FidelityFX SDK 2.0 launch

AMD's FSR 4 is the latest iteration of the company's FidelityFX Super Resolution technology that moves to an AI solution similar to NVIDIA DLSS. As such, it's currently exclusive to AMD's RDNA 4 desktop GPUs, like the Radeon RX 9070 XT, which include advanced AI hardware. Per our reviews and hands-on time with FSR 4, it's safe to say that it presents a massive leap forward in image quality compared to FSR 3, and finally closes the gap between FSR and DLSS.

However, unlike previous versions of FSR, FSR 4 is not officially 'open source' yet, with code available to all developers. Well, with the release of FidelityFX SDK 2.0, it was for a moment, as AMD briefly released the FSR 4 source code before taking it down.
