Palit reveals new GeForce RTX 3060 StormX and Dual graphics cards

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Jan 13, 2021 5:01 AM CST

Palit has just taken the wraps off of its new GeForce RTX 3060 Dual and GeForce RTX 3060 StormX series graphics cards.

Palit reveals new GeForce RTX 3060 StormX and Dual graphics cards

First off we have the new Palit GeForce RTX 3060 Dual which uses 2 x 90mm fans to keep the card cool, and a bunch of ventilation across the card. Palit provides RGB lighting on the side of the shroud, so you're not going to get all blinged out looking at your card.

But then we have the super-small Palit GeForce RTX 3060 StormX graphics card which is a powerful, yet mini graphics card measuring in at just 17cm long. If you've got a small form factor (SFF) gaming PC and needed something with a good amount of grunt but didn't want to spend over $500 then you've got a new option on your hands if you can buy the Palit RTX 3060 StormX in your market.

LG's new 83-inch 4K 120Hz OLED TV allows for IMAX-style gaming

Anthony Garreffa | Displays | Jan 13, 2021 4:43 AM CST

LG has introduced a bunch of new 2021 OLED TVs at the all-virtual CES 2021 this year, with the new C1 series powered by their latest 4K processor. But it's the introduction of the new 83-inch model that piqued my interest.

LG's new 83-inch 4K 120Hz OLED TV allows for IMAX-style gaming

The new LG C1 series of OLED TVs comes in its original 77, 65, 55, and 48 inch models but the new C1 series introduces the massive 83-inch model into the mix for 2021. LG's new C1 series isn't much different from the already great CX series, but the new 83-inch model will be an amazing TV with its HDMI 2.1-powered 4K 120Hz for IMAX-style gaming.

LG has however added in the latest fourth-generation A9 processor, which gives the new C1 series OLED TVs scene detection and upgrading object enhancement. I don't think you're going to really tell that apart from the CX to the C1 series OLED TVs.

You can download 'all' of the CIA's information on UFO's right now

Jak Connor | Science, Space, & Robotics | Jan 13, 2021 2:33 AM CST

Thousands, and if not millions of people around the world, have said they have seen a UFO at one stage in their life, and now the CIA has provided the public with "all" of its documents on the subject.

You can download 'all' of the CIA's information on UFO's right now

The CIA has made it possible to download "all" of its files on unidentified flying objects (UFO), stating that what is available for download is "all" of the agency's files on the UFO's. The documents have since been published on The Black Vault website, which is run by freedom of information activist John Greenewald Jr. John Greenewald Jr caused the CIA to release this information after submitting 10,000 freedom of information requests over many years.

RT reports that more than 2.2 million pages have been uploaded to The Black Vault website. Some of the documents' contents mention unexplained encounters with what the CIA calls an Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), or UFO, for layman's terms. Additionally, some of the documents mention a mysterious "wonder explosion" in a small Russian city. For more information on this story, visit this link here.

AMD has just announced that its new Ryzen Threadripper PRO workstation CPUs will be able to be purchased directly, starting in March 2021.

AMD will have Ryzen Threadripper PRO chips for consumers in March 2021

At the moment, AMD's new Zen 3-based Ryzen Threadripper PRO chips are limited to the Lenovo ThinkStation P620 workstations exclusively, but that ends in March. We have seen motherboards from the likes of ASUS and GIGABYTE, ready for Ryzen Threadripper PRO processors on the sWRX8 package.

These new Ryzen Threadripper PRO processors break away from the regular Ryzen Threadripper 3000 series CPUs, with the new Ryzen Threadripper PRO chips using fully unlocked "ROME" multi-chip module re-configured for workstation. We're talking up to 64 cores and 128 threads (Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3995WX), 8-channel DDR4 memory, and an insane 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes.

EK's sandwich waterblock for servers cools two graphics cards at once

Kevin Carbotte | Cases, Cooling & PSU | Jan 12, 2021 10:19 PM CST

EK developed a GPU waterblock that enables you to double the graphics power of a rackmount server without taking extra space. The sandwich waterblock cools both cards at once.

EK's sandwich waterblock for servers cools two graphics cards at once

EK revealed an interesting custom water block that it developed for one of its enterprise customers. 2CRSI, a French IT company, needed a solution for its 1U rack servers that would enable it to offer twice as many GPUs in its thin server enclosure.

EK's sandwich waterblock is made of solid copper and features milled cut-outs for NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000 cards on both sides of the block. The cards mount in opposing directions to expose the PCIe slots on either side of the configuration. The inlet and outlet are mounted to one end of the block to allow for connection to radiator upfront in the case.

John Carmack: 'Facebook login isn't going away'

Kevin Carbotte | Extended Reality (XR) | Jan 12, 2021 9:20 PM CST

Facebook is currently facing considerable backlash over the decision to merge Oculus and Facebook accounts. The company has been met with criticism from past Oculus users, would-be Oculus users, and critics alike. It's even dealing with a lawsuit from the German government over the move. And yet, the company has remained steadfast in its decision and has yet to waver.

John Carmack: 'Facebook login isn't going away'

Facebook has recently dealt with a mass exodus of Whatsapp users after a change to its privacy policy. Given the backlash, one Twitter user called Diggie sent John Carmack a question regarding a possible shift in user account policies. Also noting that unlike Whatsapp users who can go to Signal or Telegram, VR fans don't have an alternative to flock to.

Carmack took the time to respond to Diggie directly, but the answer will surely disappoint many. He reiterated that Facebook login is here to stay, adding that it could take a decade to gain public trust about security.

Panasonic's VR Glasses look like steampunk goggles from the future

Kevin Carbotte | Extended Reality (XR) | Jan 12, 2021 8:35 PM CST

Panasonic today revealed an updated version of its VR Glasses prototype. The VR Glasses are a compact tethered VR device for use with your smartphone or PC.

Panasonic's VR Glasses look like steampunk goggles from the future

Panasonic first showed off its VR Glasses design last year at CES 2020, and this year the headset is back at the show but with a few updates compared to the old one. First and foremost, the newest version includes a pair of 2.6K micro-OLED panels for Kopin, which now offer HDR color support. The VR Glasses also include built-in earbuds, so you don't need to fiddle with an extra pair of headphones.

The Panasonic VR Glasses are so named for their unique industrial design. Unlike other VR headsets, the VR glasses don't have one large compartment for the screen, optics, and electronics. The VR Glasses have two small capsules that house the components for each eye separately. The optics include IPD adjustment, which is the distance between your pupils. It also supports diopter adjustment, which means you can move the lenses towards or away from your eyes.

NVIDIA has made its new GeForce RTX 3080 16GB Mobility GPU official, with RTX 3080 mobile GPU-powered gaming laptops starting at $1999 to shake up the gaming laptop market in 2021. Check out the new GPUs:

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 gaming laptops start at $1999, pack 16GB GDDR6

NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 3080 Mobile GPU in Max-Q form will have a TGP of 80W, while the RTX 3080 Mobile GPU in Max-P form has a much larger TGP of 150W. We can expect GeForce RTX 3080 gaming laptops to start from $1999, but if you want all that Ampere grunt you'll be paying much more.

NVIDIA says that its new GeForce RTX 3080 gaming laptops are capable of 2560 x 1440 (1440p) gaming at over 100FPS on Ultra graphics -- keeping up with, and easily beating out anything the next-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles can do (albeit, at a much higher price -- but I guess a laptop has everything unlike a console where you also need to buy a TV, etc).
