AMD's next-gen RDNA 3 GPU: up to 2.5x faster than GeForce RTX 3080 Ti

| Jul 22, 2021 7:41 PM CDT

AMD's next-gen RDNA 3 architecture is still a long way away, it'll be interesting to see how AMD deploys its next-gen GPU architecture as it will be offered in MCD format -- or Multi-Compute Die.

AMD's next-gen RDNA 3 GPU: up to 2.5x faster than GeForce RTX 3080 Ti

MCD is similar to the MCM (Multi-Chip Module) design that NVIDIA will use with its next-gen Hopper GPU, and the chiplet-based technology AMD uses on its various Zen-based CPUs. The latest info on the next-gen RDNA 3 architecture is that Navi 31 will be an MCD (Multi-Compute Die) design and taping out "soon" according to leaker @KittyYYuko, with Navi 32 possibly taping out in Q2 2022.

AMD will be making multiple Navi 3X GPUs going forward, with Navi 31, Navi 32, and Navi 33 all teased. As for performance, we should expect the flagship RDNA 3 GPU in monolithic form -- which should take form with a Navi 33-based GPU -- to be somewhere in the 100%+ increase over the Radeon RX 6900 XT range.

Amazon's New World is killing heaps of GPUs, not just the RTX 3090

| Jul 22, 2021 7:06 PM CDT

Amazon's new game New World is still killing graphics cards across the planet, but now the problem is much more severe as it's not just exclusive to EVGA's flagship GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra graphics card.

Amazon's New World is killing heaps of GPUs, not just the RTX 3090

There are reports all over the place, with YouTuber JayzTwoCents throwing his two cents in -- I had to, I'm sorry -- where he's tweeted that he's had a multitude of GPU owners tell him that they've had shutdowns and failures when playing New World.

The graphics cards that he listed include the AMD Radeon RX 590, Radeon RX 6800, Radeon RX 6800 XT, Radeon RX 6900 XT, and NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, and GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards. He added at the end that "So once again, the issue definitely is with SOMETHING in the way the game New World is rendering. This ISNT a 3090'exclusive issue! PERIOD!!"

NVIDIA's next-gen Hopper GPU taping out soon: multi-chip module (MCM)

| Jul 21, 2021 8:25 PM CDT

First off, NVIDIA's next-gen Hopper GPU isn't a gaming architecture -- so we're not going to see the GeForce RTX 4080 Ti or something based on the Hopper GPU... but we have the most exciting GPU architecture from NVIDIA to date that is reportedly going to tape out soon.

NVIDIA's next-gen Hopper GPU taping out soon: multi-chip module (MCM)

The new rumors are coming from a mysterious tease on Twitter by "Greymon55" a new name on the leaking scene, which said on Twitter simply "NHWTOS" which within hours the code was broken: NHWTOS was reportedly a cryptic tease of "NVIDIA's Hopper Will Tape Out Soon".

Greymon55 tweeted not long after that, saying "All right, you win".

ELSA teases Project Cars 3 x ERAZOR RTX 3060 Ti LHR graphics card

| Jul 20, 2021 8:42 PM CDT

I don't see the point of this graphics card release, like... at all -- but here we are.

ELSA teases Project Cars 3 x ERAZOR RTX 3060 Ti LHR graphics card

Introducing the ELSA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti ERAZOR which is a basic-looking GeForce RTX 3060 Ti that is based on the Inno3D Twin X2 variant -- the same cooler, the same backplate, but the fan stickers are missing off the card. Oh wow.

Anyway, the company worked with Slightly Mad Studios -- the developer behind Project Cars 3. Sure, Project Cars 3 might be on the retail packaging, but unlike yesteryear when the packaging had a game displayed on it and it was included, the ELSA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti ERAZOR does not come with Project Cars 3 bundled.

NVIDIA rumored GPU refresh: GeForce RTX 30 SUPER coming soon

| Jul 19, 2021 9:30 PM CDT

The latest rumor for NVIDIA is that they will be refreshing their Ampere GPU range with the GeForce RTX 30 SUPER series GPUs for both desktop and laptops.

NVIDIA rumored GPU refresh: GeForce RTX 30 SUPER coming soon

According to leaker @kopite7kimi on Twitter, the new GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs is "one step in Jensen's smooth upgrade to Ada Lovelace". Ada Lovelace being the next-gen GPU architecture from NVIDIA, meanwhile, the new GeForce RTX 30 SUPER series GPUs would have no node change meaning they'll be made on Samsung's 8nm process again.

What we should expect to see from NVIDIA in the new GeForce RTX 30 SUPER series GPUs is increased CUDA cores, higher GPU clock speeds, and possibly more VRAM. We could expect models with 8-20GB of VRAM, and most likely a boost in memory width which will provide much more memory bandwidth.

GPU price declines slow down, prices are back to January 2021 levels

| Jul 19, 2021 8:23 PM CDT

GPU prices are beginning to feel a little more normal... at least in Germany and Austria according to the latest data from 3DCenter. Check out their price trend chart:

GPU price declines slow down, prices are back to January 2021 levels

As you can see we're finally back to around January 2021 levels when it comes to pricing for both AMD's new Radeon RX 6000 series and NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs. But man, were the prices freaking out of this world at their peak towards the second half of May 2021... 300%+ above MSRP.

This time last month we saw prices coming down from the 2-3 weeks before that, and now they've come down again. Just a month ago, GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs were 191% above MSRP in Germany, while Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs were 181% above MSRP... now they're 156% and 150% above MSRP, respectively.

AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT LC reviewed, but you can't buy it

| Jul 18, 2021 8:26 PM CDT

You aren't able to buy AMD's new Radeon RX 6900 XT Liquid Cooled graphics cards, as it's only available for OEMs -- but that hasn't stopped a review of the new water-cooled GPU going live.

AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT LC reviewed, but you can't buy it

PC Games Hardware secured themselves one of AMD's new Radeon RX 6900 XT Liquid Cooled graphics cards and played around with it exactly as you would if you had a super elusive new GPU. AMD is using its own AIO cooler here, compared to the dual-fan cooler on the Radeon RX 6900 XT reference graphics card.

We have GPU clocks of 2250MHz and 2435MHz for base and game clock, respectively -- while the Radeon RX 6900 XT LC has its 16GB of GDDR6 memory overclocked (and is the only Radeon RX 6000 series GPU to have its GDDR6 memory overclocked) to 18.5Gbps which provides up to 591.1GB/sec of memory bandwidth.

Non-crypto mining gimped RTX 3080s found in pre-built mining PCs

| Jul 14, 2021 8:11 PM CDT

You might not be able to buy a GPU right now, but that doesn't stop some retailers from selling them -- even the non-LHR models -- to crypto miners.

Non-crypto mining gimped RTX 3080s found in pre-built mining PCs

Vietnamese retailers have secured themselves some ultra-rare ASUS ROG Strix GUNDUM GeForce RTX 3080 graphic cards, but the non-LHR (Lite Hash Rate) models so they're not crypto mining gimped. This means they're highly sought-after mining GPUs but get this, they cost $2300 each.

VideoCardz made a point here in their article by writing "This probably wouldn't be newsworthy if not for the fact that the ASUS ultra-rare GUNDAM series were used for those rigs" and they're right. I would've written about it anyway because I like to cover as much as I can in the GPU and crypto mining worlds -- but these are ultra-rare, ultra-expensive, super-hard-to-get GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards... and they're being used for crypto mining.

MSI rumored to be working on GeForce RTX 3090 Hydrogen graphics card

| Jul 10, 2021 8:32 PM CDT

MSI is reportedly working on a new high-end custom GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card, with rumors now beginning on the GeForce RTX 3090 Hydrogen card.

MSI rumored to be working on GeForce RTX 3090 Hydrogen graphics card

The GeForce RTX 3090 Hydrogen was mentioned in a new EEC filing from MSI, which mentions the "GeForce RTX 3090 HYDROGEN 24G" alongside a plethora of other graphics cards. There is a gigantic list of refreshed GeForce RTX 3060 graphics cards under the new LHR (Lite Hash Rate) series that are ETH crypto mining gimped.

The last time MSI released a graphics card in its Hydrogen range was with the Fermi GPU architecture, and the GeForce GTX 580 Hydrogen. MSI had a pre-installed waterblock on the GeForce GTX 580 Hydrogen, something that wasn't very common at all back then.

Check out the MSI GeForce RTX 3070 SUPRIM SE x GODZILLA graphics card

| Jul 4, 2021 11:07 PM CDT

MSI looks to be working on a new custom graphics card, with the GeForce RTX 3070 SUPRIM SE x GODZILLA teased -- and it looks incredible.

Check out the MSI GeForce RTX 3070 SUPRIM SE x GODZILLA graphics card

But I think the biggest interesting fact is here that MSI managed to get the word "sex" into the graphics card name, "SUPRIM SE x GODZILLA" -- I mean, LOL. Anyway, the new MSI GeForce RTX 3070 SUPRIM SE x GODZILLA is part of the Lite Hash Rate (LHR) series which has its crypto mining powers gimped.

The custom theme that MSI has used on the GeForce RTX 3070 SUPRIM SE x GODZILLA looks fantastic, with the front cooler getting a red/black theme treatment -- but man-oh-man the backplate is something I need in my gaming PC as soon as humanly possible.

NVIDIA DLSS new mode teased: Ultra Quality in DLSS 2.2.9.0 found

| Jun 30, 2021 9:35 PM CDT

It looks like NVIDIA is preparing to add a new mode to DLSS with the rumored Ultra Quality mode for DLSS 2.2.9.0 spotted in some Unreal Engine 5 documentation.

NVIDIA DLSS new mode teased: Ultra Quality in DLSS 2.2.9.0 found

The reference to DLSS and its new Ultra Quality mode was spotted by a Redditor, and would offer improved image quality over the Quality mode that DLSS offers right now. AMD just launched its new FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) with an Ultra Quality mode, so NVIDIA seems to be responding to that with its own Ultra Quality mode.

AMD and its in-house FSR technology will scale the resolution by 1.3x under the Ultra Quality mode, compared to 1.5x with Quality -- the same 1.5x scaling that NVIDIA DLSS does with its Quality mode. NVIDIA's new Ultra Quality mode for DLSS will offer the highest image quality possible, better than the native resolution of your monitor -- but with more performance.
