Mortal Kombat 11: Cassie Cage & Kano make a special entrance

| Mar 7, 2019 1:00 AM CST

We are back with another character reveal trailer for the upcoming Mortal Kombat 11, this time round we have Cassie Cage and Kano taking the stage.

Mortal Kombat 11: Cassie Cage & Kano make a special entrance

While the reveal trailer is titled 'Cassie Cage reveal trailer' we actually see quite a bit from both of the fighters. Cassie Cage is the daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, as sometime after the Netherrealm War both the characters got married before Sonya's obsession with her work took over, resulting in Johnny divorcing her. Left neglected, Cassie joined the special forces where she trained to become a skilled fighter and now leads her own team to protect Earthrealm.

Gameplay wise, Cassie's move-set is a combination of both her father's and her mother's. She uses powerful devastating kick and punching combo's, that are combined with a taste of Sonya weaponry when needed. The guns are used both up close and personal and at a range. Kano on the other hand has much less finesse when it comes to his attacks. We see brutal combinations of grapples that result in back, skull and abdominal breakage, not mention the slew of knives that are being thrown and impaled into Cassie.

Duke Nukem dev to reveal Quake-powered shooter tomorrow

| Mar 6, 2019 10:30 PM CST

3D Realms has just shoved the hype meter to 11 with its surprise tease of an "unannounced Quake 1 engine shooter", tweeting that "you will not survive".

Duke Nukem dev to reveal Quake-powered shooter tomorrow

We have absolutely nothing to go on apart from the unannounced shooter using the original Quake engine that id Software created, which at the time was technologically leaps and bounds better than 3D Realms' own Build engine that powered Duke Nukem 3D. Build went onto power 90s shooter hits like Blood, Shadow Warrior, and others. Quake, well we know how successful that engine was for id Software, where even through to today it powers every single Call of Duty game with a highly modified Quake 3 engine.

But now with 3D Realms teasing a new shooter out of nowhere, on an engine that is over 20 years old? I don't even know what to expect. I'm hoping I can relive my 90s gaming days with this new game, but I simultaneously don't want to get my hopes up.

Apex Legends Battle Pass rumored to launch on March 12

| Mar 6, 2019 8:42 PM CST

Apex Legends is the hottest game on the planet right now, with developer Respawn Entertainment racking up a record-breaking 50 million players since its launch jsut a few weeks ago. But now that we're in March, we are very close to the first Battle Pass for the game as well as its first season to kick off.

Apex Legends Battle Pass rumored to launch on March 12

The first Battle Pass for the game reportedly kicks off on March 12, and will arrive with new Legends, weapons, and loot. While we know that the first Battle Pass will have a bunch of new content, we don't know exactly which Legends, weapons, or loot to expect. There is the loosest rumor to go by right now about the first new Legend in Apex Legends will be Octane, according to someone who took a photo of the character "off of the screen of someone working on the project". Alrighty.

Daily Esports is behind the news from a source of theirs, with the site adding that the first Battle Pass will launch on March 12 and will "not be purchasable with coins, and will be a static item in the shop". Octane is reportedly a "central promotional figure" for the Battle Pass, and "should be released either alongside the Battle Pass or just before it" according to Daily Esports' source.

Mortal Kombat 11's story warps through previous games

| Mar 6, 2019 6:29 PM CST

Past and present collide in Mortal Kombat 11's new story mode.

Mortal Kombat 11's story warps through previous games

Today Netherealm dropped a new story trailer for Mortal Kombat 11, revealing fresh info about the campaign mode. As we reported a bit ago, the game's story takes us on a time-traveling journey through the series' 25 years of brutality. Following Raiden's slaying of Shinnok and disrupting the balance between good and evil, Kronika, MK11's main villain and the Keeper of Time, resets history from the beginning. So rather than going just forward, players will go backward and relive old classic moments of triumph, mayhem, and gore--all with a twist.

The story sees Outworld and Earthrealm team up to take on Shao Kahn and his horde of minions to cure the temporal rift that's spewing chaotic time shifts across reality.

Anthem isn't breaking PS4s, BioWare says

BioWare admits Anthem is crashing PS4 consoles, but says the game can't actually break your system.

Anthem isn't breaking PS4s, BioWare says

Today BioWare confirmed that Anthem is indeed crashing and resetting PS4 hardware, but contrary to reports, it can't actually destroy your console, the developer says.

"After thorough review, we have not encountered an instance where Anthem has "bricked" a PS4 console," said Anthem's head of live services Chris Robertson. "If you are experiencing anything different, please reach out to @EAHelp on Twitter so we can track the incident and investigate. Thanks for your patience."

Game Pass, Xbox LIVE, xCloud may get combined in one sub

| Mar 6, 2019 4:40 PM CST

Microsoft will soon have an arsenal of subscriptions at its disposal, but the average gamer won't pay full price for all three. Microsoft needs to bundle its subscriptions into a cohesive, lower-cost plan.

Game Pass, Xbox LIVE, xCloud may get combined in one sub

In a recent episode of the Sams Report, Thurrot.com writer Brad Sams articulated a solution to a problem I'd long thought about: Microsoft could combine its three main powerhouses into one lower-cost subscription plan. Right now Microsoft enjoys large cashflows from separate subscriptions like Xbox LIVE Gold, which is required to play online games, and Xbox Game Pass, which gives all-you-can-download access to over 100 different games.

The two services are perfectly synergized to fuel each other. Game Pass needs Xbox LIVE Gold to play online and sparks game sales on the store, and Xbox LIVE sparks community engagement that's used organically in Game Pass.

Master Chief Collection coming to PC, possibly via Game Pass

| Mar 6, 2019 3:34 PM CST

Microsoft plans to make a huge splash in PC gaming by releasing the biggest Halo anthology onto the platform.

Master Chief Collection coming to PC, possibly via Game Pass

Sources tell Windows insider Brad Sams that the Master Chief Collection is coming soon to Windows 10 PCs, and Game Pass could be a big part of this rollout. "It's an open secret that Microsoft is working on The Master Chief Collection on PC, and I'm hearing that's close to release," Sams said in a recent episode of The Sams Report.

It's likely The Master Chief Collection will be delivered via Game Pass on PC in a bid to boost subscriptions across the board. Microsoft is currently developing new technology that brings native Xbox games over to Windows 10 PCs, and it should allow Game Passes' full library of Xbox and even Xbox 360 games to be played on PC. This huge rollout of Game Pass, Halo MCC, and Windows Store optimizations could come quite soon--as soon as the next few months.

New upcoming survival RTS 'Conan Unconquered' detailed

| Mar 6, 2019 5:00 AM CST

Funcom and Petroglyph Games have released a new overview video for the upcoming real-time survival strategy game 'Conan Unconquered'. Let's see what this game can offer real-time strategy fans.

New upcoming survival RTS 'Conan Unconquered' detailed

Conan Unconquered is the first strategy game built in the universe of Conan the Barbarian, and captures unique and increasingly difficult enemies that will come at the player in a wave after wave fashion. Players will be required to build and maintain their stronghold while having a unconquerable army to protect their citadel. The above video narrated by the developers Petroglyph shine a light on some of the best aspects of 'Conan Unconquered'. Petroglyph tell potential players that they will be required to maintain a lot of different resources, while at the same time being very aware of the plethora of different units that can be generated.

Conan Unconquered will also have many different technologies that can be researched. These technologies will increase the players defensive capabilities, which in turn will allow for a more sustained survival. Players will have the option of enjoying Conan Unconquered in a single player mode, or a two-player co-op mode that allows for a shared multi-player experience. The developers say they have taken a lot of inspiration from Frostpunk and from my opinion the game also draws inspiration from another survival RTS called They Are Billions. Conan Unconquered is planned for release sometime during Q2 of 2019. To follow Conan Unconquered, visit the official Twitter account here.

THQ Nordic's CEO apologizes over recent 8Chan AMA disaster

THQ Nordic's CEO apologizes over recent 8Chan AMA disaster

Just this past week, THQ Nordic GmbH, the PR and Marketing side of the THQ Nordic did an AMA but not a regular platform. The company decided to use the 8Chan platform, which is extremely odd as the website is very well known for their explicit content that can even be taken as far as child pornography. As expected, the AMA was blasted with a series of disturbing content combined with some questions.

When asked about their franchise Destroy All Humans they responded, "We work it like an alien prostitute." Allegedly an 8chan user posted a picture of a medieval knight that was captioned, "cease all f____," (homophobic slur), THQ Nordic Business and Product Development Director, Reinhard Pollice answered, "That could be from one of our upcoming games." After what has been one week of "internal investigation", THQ Nordic GmbH has issued a new statement from THQ Nordic AB co-founder and CEO Lars Wingefors, it says;

Activision-Blizzard tell the SEC that operations may be hurt

| Mar 6, 2019 1:00 AM CST

Activision-Blizzard has said in a 10-K report with the Securities and Exchange Commission some new information about the impact the company will feel from the firing of its 800 employee's.

Activision-Blizzard tell the SEC that operations may be hurt

Back at the beginning of February, we saw Activision eliminate 8% of its staff which equated to about 800 or so employee's. Now in a recent 10-K report with the SEC, the company has talked about how their restructuring goal of removing excess jobs and essentially becoming a more leaner company would impact development operations.

Activision-Blizzard are currently cashing back into their already established IP's and even planning some new ones, but since they have recently culled their employment army the expectational time-lines could be effected due to sheer man-power loss. Not only will the man-power to detrimental to the release expectations but so will the morale of the workers who managed to keep their jobs, Activision-Blizzard recognize the potential of a negative business impact.

Rainbow Six Siege's new update weighs 54GB on the PC

| Mar 5, 2019 9:27 PM CST

Rainbow Six Siege's big new update is nearly here, with the Rainbow Six Twitter account tweeting out the install sizes for all three platforms, with the PC version of the game requiring a rather hefty 54GB download.

Rainbow Six Siege's new update weighs 54GB on the PC

The new Burnt Horizon update for the game will offer up Rainbow Six Siege players with new multiplayer content based in an Australian setting, with two new playable Australian Operators, a new Outback map, and a bunch of tweaks and changes to the overall game. Ubisoft has been working overtime on the game installation sizes as they were getting out of control, so you'll need to do this one-time massive update.

Rainbow Six Siege's new update is 54GB on the PC, but 'just' 38GB on the Xbox One and 'only' 33GB on the PS4. These updates are getting out of control, especially considering the irony of the new Burnt Horizon update being based in Australia where internet connections are reknown for being crappy. These big updates don't help, and only those like myself with NBN (National Broadband Network, where some suburbs have fiber access) or cable connections will be alright.

Digital-only Xbox One S coming in May

| Mar 5, 2019 2:58 PM CST

Microsoft's new disc-less Xbox One will release in May, key sources tell Windows Central.

Digital-only Xbox One S coming in May

Keen on pretending the 2013 launch Xbox doesn't exist, Microsoft's new digital-only console will be an Xbox One S model without a disc drive. The console is reportedly called the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition and is slated to release sometime in May, with pre-orders opening up next month. The system is likely to cost around $150 and may have a slimmer 500GB hard drive.

The Xbox-as-a-service ecosystem is a thriving billion-dollar market built specifically for digital content; Microsoft has made PCs and consoles key gateways to this lucrative empire of services, subscriptions, and game sales. The success of its Game Pass service led me to predict Microsoft would make a low-cost digital-only console to serve as an entry point to its services.

Epic Store doesn't even have the simplest account protection

| Mar 5, 2019 5:14 AM CST

It has been discovered that Epic Games hasn't implemented the most basic form of account protection in their new 'Epic Store'. The signing up process doesn't feature email verification.

Epic Store doesn't even have the simplest account protection

While browsing my plethora of different gaming Reddits I came across a particularly interesting post. Reddit user, -dov claims that the Epic Games Store doesn't even have the most basic form of account protection, 'email verification'. Originally I thought that this couldn't be true and that for a brand new store - especially to Epic Games' standards - should feature the most basic step of account protection, simple email verification. So, I made a new Epic Store account and to my amazement, -dov is very much right, there is no email verification.

Many other Epic Store users chimed in on the this discovery, saying that they have received many spam emails from Epic Games saying "Your epic account was accessed/changed..", when no changes were actually made by the owner. -dov says "I found fraudulent accounts had been created using two different email addresses of mine on the Epic Store when attempting to create an account. Had them deactivated, changed the passwords on the email accounts, checked my bank and credit card statements for any fraudulent activity but everything seemed ok." He continued and says "The worst part is that even having those fraudulent accounts deactivated doesn't solve anything unless I make burner profiles to squat on my own email addresses without someone creating another account using them since they don't have to validate it."

Devil May Cry 4 devs re-used levels due to lack of budget

| Mar 5, 2019 2:00 AM CST

The release of Devil May Cry 5 is almost upon us and in just before the Capcom themed celebrations start, the games director Hideaki Itsuno has admitted what most Devil May Cry 4 fans already knew.

Devil May Cry 4 devs re-used levels due to lack of budget

In a recent interview, Hideaki Itsuno has revealed that throughout the development of Devil May Cry 4, the game ran into a major budgeting issue. This problem was more than apparent to gamers as it was noticeable that the second half of the game featured re-used levels. The claim that Devil May Cry 4 had budgeting issues was never confirmed by Itsuno until now, here is what he had to say "You had to traverse back over to the previous levels during the latter half of the game."

As expected, and just like most things that are problems with development, the issue was centered around budgeting. According to Itsuno, while Devil May Cry 4 was quite successfull the title had the exact same amount of budget as that of Devil May Cry 3. The decision to re-use some levels in Devil May Cry 4 was to ensure that the game would release on time. Here is what Itsuno finished up with when talking about Devil May Cry 4. "Well, it turns out the budget was similar to what we had on Devil May Cry 3. Creating the game in the same way (with the first half) would have meant we would have run out of budget, and also we wouldn't have been able to ship in time."

While these comical live-action cut-scenes are quite amusing to watch they will not be available to every player of Devil May Cry 5. These cut-scenes can only be activated in-game for users that picked up the Deluxe Edition for the game. Devil May Cry 5 will be launching on March 8th for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Forza Street teased as a new mobile entry in the franchise

| Mar 4, 2019 11:34 PM CST

The next game in the Forza franchise looks like it'll be a mobile-focused game, with Turn 10 Studios' next game could be a new mobile game called Forza Street.

Forza Street teased as a new mobile entry in the franchise

Forza Street turned up as a mistaken leak in the latest Forza Motorsport Week in Review, and has been corrected since it leaked. It teased: "Developed in partnership with UK-based studio, Electric Square, Forza Street is built from the ground up to support a wide range of Windows 10, iOS, and Android devices".

If the rumors are true and Forza Street is in development, it seems that the project has been outsourced to Brighton-based studio Electric Square. The developer previously worked with Microsoft Studios last year on Miami Street, which was a Windows 10 game that promised casual "pick-up-and-play gameplay. GTPlanet, the source of this news, says that Forza franchise director Dan Greenawalt, will have his "Forza Monthly" debut in March, which could be the announcement of Forza Street.

Anthem is crashing, soft-bricking PS4s

| Mar 4, 2019 7:19 PM CST

Dozens of Anthem players say the game is crashing their PS4 consoles in various ways, preventing normal startup and in rare instances actually breaking their systems.

Anthem is crashing, soft-bricking PS4s

If it's one thing that proves Anthem needed more time in the oven, it's the reports that BioWare's new live shooter is messing with console and PC hardware. Over 30 people on the Anthem subreddit confirm the game is actually crashing their systems and forcing hardware to turn off at various points in the game. Crashing instances seem random and can occur during matchmaking, in-game missions, quitting the application from the PS menu, or even during loading screens. Kotaku notes the official Anthem forums are littered with examples too.

Users say the game can crash anything from a PS4 (most prevalent) to an Xbox One and even PCs--one user even said Anthem broke their PS4 console altogether. Gamers report freezing, abrupt crashing that leads to shut downs, and even soft-brick boot loops that require Safe Mode startups to repair storage data. These hard crashes send the PS4 into Safe Mode irregardless for system check-ups and essentially make the PS4 think you unplugged the power cord. I can tell you from experience doing this too many times can ruin your hard drive.
