Here's when and how to watch the Battlefield 2042 reveal

| Jun 8, 2021 9:26 PM CDT

EA will be unveiling Battlefield 2021 aka Battlefield 2042 aka Battlefield 6 aka BATTLEFIELD -- the go here seems to be Battlefield 2042 and the reveal event happens tomorrow.

Here's when and how to watch the Battlefield 2042 reveal

The official Battlefield YouTube account has a new video dubbed Battlefield Livestream: Countdown to Reveal Trailer, with the Battlefield 2042 reveal kicking off at 7AM PT. We last heard through 4chan leaks of course, that the new Battlefield would be called Battlefield 2042.

At the time of writing -- around 11 hours before the premiere -- there were 2500 people on the video and the chat was pumping away. We'll be watching closely, reporting from the event live -- well, as live as we can by streaming it online and writing about it, that is.

Fortnite update: Superman, UFOs, Rick and Morty, and an influencer

| Jun 8, 2021 8:34 PM CDT

Yeah, you saw that right -- we have Superman in the game now, as well as Rick and Morty as another surprise, a customizable Kymera outfit which is an alien specimen you get to sculpt throughout the season. One of the biggest shocks is that Guggimon, a virtual influencer with over 1.3 million followers on Instagram, has made it into the new season.

If you purchase the new Battle Pass then you'll unlock Superman later in the season, but you'll also secure yourself the customizable Kymera slien, Joey who is a human/alien double agent, and a huge battle robot.

Capcom E3 stream set for Monday, June 14 at 5:30PM EST

| Jun 8, 2021 10:18 AM CDT

Capcom announced its E3 2021 showcase for Monday, June 14 at 5:30PM EST, and is quite conservative with its highlights.

Capcom E3 stream set for Monday, June 14 at 5:30PM EST

Games companies are finally starting to fill in the holes in the E3 2021 schedule. Now Capcom has jumped in to clarify exact timing for its show, and we should see all the other major players do the same. E3 is all-digital this year so things are pretty messy and everyone's trying to avoid conflicts and schedule their shows in between other events. This, of course, has led to confusion.

So what can we expect from Capcom's E3? Maybe not a lot of surprises. There's on four games officially confirmed for the event and we could get new info on Resident Evil Village DLC/updates:

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart gets 60FPS + ray tracing mode on PS5

| Jun 7, 2021 10:31 PM CDT

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is nearly upon us, with the PlayStation 5 exclusive having a launch day patch that will add new 60FPS Performance and 60FPS Performance RT Modes.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart gets 60FPS + ray tracing mode on PS5

Insomniac Games announced the news on Twitter saying that launch day updates for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will add 60FPS goodness, up from the 4K 30FPS with RT (ray tracing) by default. But if you want the 60FPS smoothness (I'd rather have 60FPS over any higher res @ 30FPS) then you're looked after with the day-one patch.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart launches on June 11, with plenty of performance and performance + RT modes that will give you exactly what gaming experience you want. 4K 60FPS without ray tracing, 4K 30FPS with ray tracing, and then the new 60FPS performance modes are now very, very welcomed.

| Jun 7, 2021 7:08 PM CDT

Valve's new Steam Pal handheld may not be revealed at E3

| Jun 7, 2021 5:38 PM CDT

Today Valve confirmed it will be part of the PC Gaming E3 stream on Sunday, June 13, but we might not see the Steam Pal announced there.

Valve's new Steam Pal handheld may not be revealed at E3

Valve is working on a new handheld PC that can play Steam games. Similar to the Nintendo Switch, the so-called Steam Pal comes with a dock for living room play. There's expectations that Valve could announce the Steam Pal this Sunday at the PC Gaming show...but that might not happen.

The PC Gaming announcement originally said Valve would "deliver a message regarding Steam." The site has since been altered and now says Valve will "deliver a message regarding Steam Next Fest."

Borderlands dev's new game accidentally confirmed by site code

| Jun 7, 2021 5:10 PM CDT

Today 2K Games and Gearbox confirmed they will show a new game on June 10, and the promo website for the game accidentally confirmed the game is called Wonderlands.

Borderlands dev's new game accidentally confirmed by site code

A new game is coming from 2K and Gearbox, but the official website pretty much spoiled the announcement. Mentions of "Wonderlands" were found in the BeChaoticGreat.com website website source code, and this corroborates previous leaks of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands.

Leaks say this project will be a Borderlands spin-off starring Tiny Tina built in the Borderlands 3 engine. While official details are light, Take-Two President Karl Slatoff describes this new Gearbox project as an "immersive core" game. These titles are described as investment-driven experiences that sit alongside franchises like Borderlands, GTA, and Red Dead Redemption 2.

Ubisoft changes new Rainbow Six name to make it COVID-19-friendly

| Jun 7, 2021 4:30 PM CDT

As promised, Ubisoft has changed the name of Rainbow Six Quarantine into something more pandemic-friendly.

Ubisoft changes new Rainbow Six name to make it COVID-19-friendly

Today Ubisoft announced that Rainbow Six Quarantine is now Rainbow Six Extraction. Ubisoft had originally named the squad shooter before the COVID-19 pandemic scoured the world, and this is the third name assigned to the game: First we had Quarantine, then Parasite, and now Extraction.

Interestingly enough, Ubisoft had actually confirmed the re-name in a recent Annual General Meeting of Shareholders report (spotted first by Axios games reporter Stephen Totilo) where it said:

Halo Infinite community director shoots down 'bogus' reports

| Jun 7, 2021 3:57 PM CDT

Halo Infinite will make a big splash at the Xbox E3 show, but recent 'insider' reports aren't entirely accurate.

Halo Infinite community director shoots down 'bogus' reports

A bit ago we reported that Halo Infinite could release in September, might have a new hybrid multiplayer mode that mixes Battlefield's conquest, Big Team Battle, and Warzone together, and that Infinite might have sub-par graphics as compared to other next-gen games (despite 343i going all out with the PC port). Now Halo community director Brian Jarrard steps in to squash some of these rumors.

The info comes from YouTuber Colteastwood who is said to have behind-the-scenes knowledge of Halo Infinite and direct info from playtesters. But according to Jarrard, the recent leaks and predictions aren't true. Jarrard didn't specific which rumors aren't true, of course, and mostly delivered a blanket statement.

EA introduces new Battlefield logo ahead of game reveal

DICE and EA are glitching out ahead of the big new Battlefield reveal, and fans are going nuts.

EA introduces new Battlefield logo ahead of game reveal

Something strange is happening over at EA. The official Twitter pages for Battlefield, DICE, and EA are all glitching out with strange header images, and Battlefield's has actually revealed a new logo for the upcoming modern shooter. EA will reveal the game in less than 2 days and is using the time in between to do small tantalizing teases for fans.

Oh and there's a strange glitch animation happening when you log into Battlefield V and Battlefield 1 too.

Aliens are coming to Fortnite, don't worry: there's no anal probes

| Jun 6, 2021 11:17 PM CDT

Fortnite's new season is about to start, and it seems to be centered around aliens and UFOs -- with recent games seeing people have beams of light appear from above... sucking them up into the air, and then waking up somewhere totally random with full-stacked health and shields.

Aliens are coming to Fortnite, don't worry: there's no anal probes

You can't just get abducted anywhere in Fortnite right now, where UFOs seem to be taking players towards the center of the map where Risky Reels and The Spire are. It seems like a tease right now, with the full UFO and alien-themed new season that begins on June 8.

We should expect a huge launch event in the next 24-36 hours as we lead into Fortnite's new season, similar to previous season launches where it has been a game-wide event. But what could Epic Games do? Have a UFO crash into the map and change the entire landscape?

Halo Infinite graphics are not 'top-tier visuals' says insider

| Jun 6, 2021 8:20 PM CDT

Halo Infinite will enjoy a decent E3 2021 reveal video during the Xbox & Bethesda E3 Showcase, but we're hearing some early reports on the graphics and... they're not good at all.

Halo Infinite graphics are not 'top-tier visuals' says insider

YouTuber and Microsoft insider Coalteastwood has said that Halo Infinite still looks like sh*t, just more polished turd I suppose. He said during his latest show: "343 will show a small feature on the campaign and upgraded visuals. Testers are saying that Halo Infinite looks improved, but not the mind-blowing top-tier visuals we come to expect from 343 and the largest tentpole franchise on [Microsoft's] platform".

So on Microsoft's most powerful console ever made, and the most powerful next-gen console (Xbox Series X > PlayStation 5 > Xbox Series S) and yet their flagship franchise (Halo) doesn't have "top-tier visuals". What is going on, 343i + Microsoft?

These awesome indie games need to be on your radar

| Jun 6, 2021 4:31 PM CDT

We've heard all about Starfield, Battlefield 2042, Elder Scrolls VI, Halo Infinite--the list of AAA hits goes on and on. But what about the smaller, more innovative and unique indie games? Sometimes those get brushed over. Here are some really interesting indies that I recently discovered.

These awesome indie games need to be on your radar

Indie games are an essential part to the burgeoning video games industry. They're the lighter fare served up in between the massive three-course meals of AAA games, and Nintendo in particular owes quite a lot to indies for the Switch's success. I actually got my start writing about indie games (those old-school Xbox LIVE Indie games from the bygone 2011 era on Xbox 360) so when I see neat indies, I feel compelled to write about them.

This list is rather small. It only includes five games and doesn't highlight all the awesome indies out there--especially those announced in the recent Guerrilla Collective stream. The industry is absolutely filled with talented developers and there's no way I could keep track of everything, so if you're reading this and you've made something, feel free to send me an email.

Respawn might be working on multiple Star Wars projects at once

| Jun 6, 2021 1:37 PM CDT

Respawn is currently hiring for three teams: Star Wars, Apex Legends, and an incubation team for a new project. It's possible this new project is another Star Wars game.

Respawn might be working on multiple Star Wars projects at once

While scouting Respawn Entertainment's careers page I noticed something quite interesting. Two of the job listings for the New Game Incubation Team mention the Star Wars team. Does this mean Respawn is working on two Star Wars games at once--Jedi Fallen Order 2 and some other project?

Both the Development Director and Senior Development Director job listings mention the Star Wars team. Before we get too excited, it's highly likely this is a typographical error. None of the other job listings for the incubation team refer to the Star Wars team.

Microsoft may announce new smaller-scale acquisition at E3 2021

| Jun 6, 2021 12:40 PM CDT

Rumor has it that Microsoft may add a 23rd studio to its Xbox Game Studios banner with an announcement at E3 2021.

Microsoft may announce new smaller-scale acquisition at E3 2021

Windows Central's Jez Corden has heard "very good" rumors that Microsoft plans to secure more IP to power its Game Pass ambitions. It's possible a new studio could be included in this franchise buyout, and a new studio acquisition will be announced at E3 2021. Corden was careful to say it won't be a huge AAA purchase like ZeniMax Media, which Microsoft paid $7.5 billion to acquire.

Sometimes the easiest way to acquire an IP is to acquire a studio. Most studios don't want to sell their IPs or franchises unless they're going under, like, say, THQ. Companies like Capcom, SEGA, Square Enix, and Nintendo protect their intellectual properties at all costs and continually mine them with sequels, re-releases/remasters, and spin-offs.

At $399, Atari VCS will serve a niche market when it releases June 15

| Jun 5, 2021 5:26 PM CDT

As the console wars rage on with exceedingly high demand for PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles, Atari is releasing its first new games console in 28 years. The steep-ish $399 price tag may ensure the product stays relatively niche in a market dominated by Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft.

At $399, Atari VCS will serve a niche market when it releases June 15

Right from the get go the Atari VCS seemed like an iffy bet. Who is the system for? I asked. Over time Atari has answered this question, and to its credit, the VCS does put robust multimedia functionality back into the gaming console environment.

The Atari VCS, which releases on June 15 for $399, puts more emphasis on versatility than power. The VCS has multiple selling points: reliving old-school retro days where arcade gaming was king, offering exclusive content--like remastered versions of old Atari games, and offering a unique PC-console hybrid. The VCS sets itself apart from other hardware because it can transform into a PC. Gamers can boot it into PC Mode and run Windows or Linux, complete with tons of apps and programs--even Steam.

New Battlefield leaks: Called Battlefield 2042, beta test in June

| Jun 5, 2021 2:45 PM CDT

A bunch of details may have leaked on DICE's new Battlefield game including the name, multiplayer game mechanics, weapon features, and more.

New Battlefield leaks: Called Battlefield 2042, beta test in June

According to new 4Chan leaks, which have been unverified and can't be taken as 100% fact, Battlefield 6 is reportedly called Battlefield 2042 and will have the biggest maps in franchise history. The huge 128-player multiplayer mode that allows 64v64 carnage has been tested and is ready to play, but there won't be cross-gen play between PS4 and Xbox One and PS5/Series X due to hardware power constraints.

The leaks also say an open beta test will come in June, not in July during/around the EA Play Live event. Influencers, content creators, and media will be invited to try Battlefield 2042 multiplayer on June 15.
