Sony's PlayStation 4 dominates sales charts with 30.2 million sales
While the Japanese tech giant might be having troubles on other fronts, Sony is doing exceedingly well in the console gaming realm. Today the company has announced that over 30.2 million PlayStation 4 consoles have been sold across the globe, continuing the sleek rhomboid's long-running reign of dominance.
The PS4 has been a powerhouse contender for Sony's PlayStation brand, surging the company far ahead of Microsoft and Nintendo. As of November 22, 2015, the PS4 has sold more than 30 million consoles since it released in 2013, making a quite impressive rate of sales for a two-year period. Back in October we reported Sony's projections that the PS4 had sold "well over 25 million" units, and we can now confirm the company wasn't lying.
"We are sincerely grateful that gamers across the globe have continued to choose PS4 as the best place to play since launch two years ago," said Sony Computer Entertainment CEO and President Andrew House. "We are committed to bringing engaging games and entertainment services to users worldwide. Thanks to the support of our partners, PS4 continues to be the premier platform for game and interactive entertainment innovation."

Halo PC is finally happening, and Microsoft has nothing to do with it
Imagine a Halo game that's totally free of 343 Industries' awkward influence; no bizarre story arcs, no filler, no clunky mechanics and best of all, no terrible team AI. Sounds like heaven, doesn't it? Well it gets better: imagine all of that on PC. As Microsoft has absolutely no interest in making a new Halo game on the PC front (the "Russian-only" Halo Online doesn't officially count) and instead uses the franchise as a selling point for the Xbox One, a group of dedicated fans are making their dream Halo PC game.
The fan-made project is called Installation 01, and is being developed legally under Microsoft's Fair Use Policy. Installation 01 is being created from scratch via Unity 5.2, and the team plans to feature a unique blend of Halo CE, Halo 2 and Halo 3 features and weapons while incorporating an "intricate storyline for lore-lovers" to boot. Installation 01 will have all the modes we know and love: Campaign, Firefight (yes!), Multiplayer modes like CTF, King of the Hill and Big Team Battle, as well as Forge.
"Installation 01 is a PC-exclusive Halo game that will be 100% free-to-play. Our goal is to deliver a true Halo experience on the PC platform that will be accessible to as many people as possible," reads a description on Halo Waypoint. "The game is extremely early in development, so there aren't many details I can share with you. But you can expect me to update you along the way. A public beta is planned for the future. Date undetermined. Truthfully, this game is made FOR the fans. Our 19-man team is extremely talented and dedicated, and are making this game with a unified love of Halo."

Star Trek Beyond will fly into IMAX screens in 2016
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is getting all of the headlines lately, but remember Star Trek Beyond is coming next year - with J.J. Abrams not directing Beyond, as he did with the first two Star Trek movies, as he was in the director's chair for The Force Awakens.
Well, Paramount Pictures, Skydance, Bad Robot and IMAX have just announced that a digitally re-mastered version of Star Trek Beyond will be shown on IMAX screens the day it debuts, on July 22, 2016. Both Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness were released on IMAX screens, but Star Trek Into Darkness had scenes that were filmed in 3D and on IMAX cameras, with no news on whether Star Trek Beyond had scenes shot on IMAX cameras or not.
Justin Lin, fresh from directing Fast and the Furious 3-6 is behind Star Trek Beyond, where he said during his announcement on his excitement for Star Trek Beyond in IMAX: "IMAX provides a one-of-a-kind movie going experience to audiences all over the world. I am excited to bring the newest journey into the 'Star Trek' universe to its screens".

COUGAR's new 450K hybrid mechanical keyboard looks quite promsing
Announced in a recently issued press release, COUGAR's new 450K keyboard sits alongside the freshly-promoted 450M mouse and is compatible with the COUGAR UIX software system.
Set for release early in 2016, this hybrid mechanical switch board aims to offer users a splash-proof design and tactile feedback. While not a true mechanical, this board is released with three LED backlighting options, macros and function remapping capabilities as per all top-tier products.
The main reason this looks quite promising is because of the chunky nature of the design. Reminding us of the 'keyboards of old', COUGAR has done a good job here making a keyboard look chunky without looking like a space abomination - unlike some others. There's no massive flaps and chunks hanging off the side, there's no fake metal bolts and there's no slew of 90 macro keys. For those who like something study, simple and yet a little fancy, I'm quite interested in seeing the reviews that come out of this product, especially looking at how the keys perform when under pressure.

Riot Games will be punishing 'toxic behavior' in League of Legends
Riot Games isn't happy with the "toxic behavior" found in League of Legends, so for the first time ever the developer will be locking players out of the new crafting and loot system. Lead Game Designer of Social Systems for Riot, Jeffrey Lin, said to Polygon in an interview: "If you're a player who is punished for toxicity or intentional feeding or so on, you can't get loot".
The new crafting and loot system for League of Legends will roll out next year, with the loot system featuring chests and key drops when the game is finished. The keys will unlock the chests (duh) with a loot system including seven-day rentals for new characters, up to and including full character and skin unlocks. This is the first time League of legends has rewarded new character skins for free.
Lin added that Riot is still working on the "details on the point at which a player's account will be cut off, he confirmed that players who are consistently tagged for negative behavior will not get any drops. Likewise, they will not be able to use crafting, where undesired drops can be traded in for something else", reports Polygon.

Electronic Arts releases Star Wars RPG game for smartphones
Released alongside a short press release, Electronic Arts has announced its latest app venture in the form of an Apple and Android compatible smartphone game called Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes.
This game urges users to "collect iconic characters from every corner of the Star Wars universe, build powerful teams, and craft cunning strategies to battle through memorable locations," being released as a free-to-play game through Google Play and the Apple App Store. With squads available for both light and dark sides of the force, Galaxy of Heroes has been produced by Capital Games. There's also a seemingly strong focus on strategy, with the press release further mentioning that each custom team can be constantly upgraded with new gear and loot won through battles.
As this is a free-to-play game, there must be some way for the companies involved to make a return, but that hasn't been highlighted just yet.

Disney downplaying opening numbers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens
While $50 million in pre-sale tickets have been sold for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Disney is downplaying some of the estimates of the domestic opening of the movie - with some estimates seeing the movie hitting $300 million.
Disney is predicting around $170 million for the opening weekend, with other estimates having it open to somewhere between $185 million and $210 million. The biggest December opener in the United States until now is The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which pulled in $85 million, less than half of the lower estimates for The Force Awakens.
But, The Force Awakens is now going to be fighting huge openings like Jurassic World, which stomped away with $208.8 million.

Intel sub-contractor had friend make hoax bomb call to avoid work
Most people have had those days when they just don't want to go to work, but Aaron O'Neill took it a step too far by asking his friend to call in a bomb threat at his work, so he wouldn't have to slump into his job as a sub-contractor at Intel after a big night of drinking and recreational drugs.
O'Neill paid his friend Colin Hammond to call in a hoax bomb threat to Intel, which ended up with a motorway being shut down, disrupting air traffic control and stopped some 4000 employees at Intel from having to go to work. Intel reportedly lost around 6000 hours of production in a "conservative estimate" according to Garda Eamonn McFadden.
Hammond called the authorities, saying that there were bombs located at Intel that would explode in 12 hours. Hammond told emergency services: "You will not find them. This is a warning, we're everywhere now". When asked who was making the call, Hammond stepped over a big line by saying he was a part of the terror cell "Islamic State".

Just Cause 3 runs at 900p 30FPS on the Xbox One, so much more on PC
It wasn't too long ago now that we reported that Just Cause 3 was rendering at 900p on the Xbox One, but now the frame rate has been confirmed at a 'solid' 30FPS. Just Cause 3 is running at 1080p on the PS4, and at much higher resolutions like 4K and beyond (and multi-monitor setups) on the PC.
The news is coming from NeoGAF user 'Death Metalist', where he posted his first impressions on Just Cause 3. He said: "For the most part it's a solid 30 FPS unless there is a really big explosion involved with physics stuff". He continued, teasing: "The game starts off pretty strong and pretty much throws you right in the mess of things while teaching you some of the mechanics. Literally within the first 10 or so minutes you'll get the wingsuit and tethering objects. I could only make 2 tethers and the maximum is 6 tethers. Of course, that's only possible by upgrading it thanks to your gear mods menu option, you do challenges to unlock crazy upgrades that concerns pretty much everything you use. Weapons, grenades, hook etc".
The best bit, is when he explained the draw distances and how big Just Cause 3 is, where he added: "The game has great draw distances on consoles and it seems to be a really massive place to wreck havoc in. So far this just seems to be a crazier, bigger and better JC2. There are 3 regions, 29 provinces, 130 settlements, 25 missions, 112 challenges, 40 daredevil jumps, 23 ancient tombs and a bunch of other collectibles".

How to use Fallout 4's bottlecap glitch without depleting ammo
Fallout 4's bottlecap glitch has certainly amassed riches for many post-apocalyptic adventurers, but like any convenient feature, the trick comes at a pretty steep cost. In this quick guide we'll show you how to get past that annoying flaw and reap the benefits of riches while keeping your hard-found ammunition intact.
Just about every Fallout 4 player has heard about the bottlecap glitch. For console players, this trick is an extremely handy way to rack up bottlecaps fast and buy out great legendary gear and ammunition. As bottlecaps pretty much fuel your enjoyment in the Commonwealth, having more caps than a recycling plant certainly boosts the game's fun factor.
While just about every games outlet has reported on the existence of the bottlecap glitch, I haven't seen any websites discuss the trick in detail or expose its caveats and trade-offs. Essentially the trick will rob you of your ammo if you aren't careful, making even the best weapons completely useless. A few times I've been caught with my pants down and without any ammo, and it often ends quite badly. Luckily, we have your back and show you how to avoid this frustrating after-effect so you can rob every vendor blind and grab near-infinite caches of caps, ammo and gear.

Sony tells users not to upgrade to Windows 10
While Sony had already warned users about waiting to upgrade to Windows 10 due to possible issues, it has now officially announced the upgrade limitations over its complete lineup.
With VAIO desktops and laptops being largely crossed off the upgrade list, Sony reportedly tested its products that were released in 2011 and beyond. While many of the tests have just been preliminary 'upgrade and click around' tests, Sony has begun further testing with many of its product range, while trying to pinpoint and fix exact issues with all of its latest products.
Issues with Windows 10 on Sony VAIO systems range from Blue Screen of Death errors due to switchable internal video cards, AMD video carded systems having limited camera support and the non-complete functionality of many Sony exclusive apps.

Software modder brings PlayStation's Remote Play to PC... for a price
Sony's Remote Play functionality is one of the most innovative features of our current generation of consoles, and represents a nice boon for PS Vita owners. But why stop at the Vita? Gamers have already brought Remote Play over to Android, so why find a way to bring Remote Play over to desktop PC's? A dedicated software modder has done just that, but his approach might ensure the project is dead on arrival.
Renowned gamer and coder Twisted has spent quite some time on Remote Play PC. After a full year's work, Twisted has announced that the Remote Play PC app is ready to go, and that Sony's cross-platform tech will find its way onto gaming PC's starting tomorrow. But it's not going to be free: Twisted plans on charging $10 for the app.
"I'd like to work on this project full time, adding features, getting it stable and porting it to other platforms which I know a lot of you want," the homebrew dev wrote in the latest announcement update. "The only way to support this is to charge for the app, all my previous projects have been free and I don't want to have to but sadly its the only way to support my living costs. On the plus side this means I have more time to work on the project and provide support to its users, something which I've been limited on in the past."

Dell admits fault, promises to remove preinstalled security flaw
Described as an "unintended security vulnerability," Dell has admitted that a root certificate preinstalled on some of its models exists and promises to remove it.
A Dell spokesperson explained that "to address this, we are providing our customers with instructions to permanently remove the certificate from their systems via direct email, on our support site, and technical support," further commenting that the computer giant does not install malware on user systems pre-delivery.
While Dell claims no responsibility for this flaw, a security blogger by the name of Hanno Bock disagrees. He says that this root certificate is not only shipped within these pre-built machines, but it's under the name 'eDellRoot' and is linked to 'Dell Foundation Services' drivers.

Star Citizen's $350 custom HOTAS controller goes on sale next month
It wasn't too long ago that we talked about the $350 custom HOTAS controller for Star Citizen, something the developer worked very closely on with peripherals maker Saitek. Well, the first controllers are about to go on sale.
Roberts Space Industries has revealed that the first model of its custom flight sticks would go up for preorder next month, and it will feature a modular design. The throttle and stick will feature integrated trackballs, and it'll be compatible with a matching ten-keyless keyboard and a separate keypad that will sport an interactive OLED display.
Carl Jones, Robert Space Industries' COO, explains: "The idea is that you can split it apart and combine it with other devices". The idea behind this is that gamers will be able to play Star Citizen with a joystick and keyboard, a joystick and throttle, two joysticks, or any combination of the custom controllers.

Samsung Gear VR sells out online
Samsung's cheap but effective virtual reality device Gear VR started shipping this week. If you haven't gotten your hands on it yet, you may not be able to for awhile, as it's all been bought up through the advertised e-tailers (Amazon, Best Buy, and Samsung.com).
Samsung said of the news, "We are delighted with the overwhelmingly positive response Gear VR has received from reviewers and eager buyers alike. We are working hard to fulfill all orders as quickly as possible."
The popularity isn't too surprising: Samsung is a well-known and respected electronics maker, and Gear VR allows one to test out augmented reality with little sacrifice thanks to the $99 price point.

Microsoft pulls Windows 10 version 1511 downloads
Microsoft has pulled downloads for version 1511 of Windows 10, the major release launched last week. As of yesterday, the downloads will only give you build 10240, and you can only upgrade through Windows Update, meaning you're (almost) out of luck if you want a clean install or to specifically upgrade with the ISO for some reason. You can use this semi-secret link, but it may well be pulled soon.
The company confirmed to ZDNet and us that this is very much intentional and they want the update available through Windows Update only, although they don't specify why. There are user reports that claim tech support has told them the ISO downloads have caused issues, and this official Microsoft documentation might indicate the cause, so that's a possibility. When asked for comment on this, a Microsoft spokesperson told us, "We look into any issues our customers report and appreciate their feedback. We don't have any further information to share today."

Just Cause 3 on PC supports NVIDIA GameWorks
Avalanche Studios' deliciously chaotic open-world explosion-sim Just Cause 3 releases in just little over a week from now, and we've spotted some new details that concerns PC gamers.
According to a leaked shot of Just Cause 3's back cover, the game will use NVIDIA's expansive GameWorks effects suite. GameWorks offers a slew of impressive enhancements across the board, from destructible environments and real-time physics to ambient smoke and fog effects. Considering Just Cause 3 is based around a wide, open world of fiery havoc, some of the GameWorks effects like PhysX, Destruction, Enhanced Horizon-Based Ambient Occlusion and Turbulence are a no-brainer.
The back cover also highlights the game's PC requirements, which we've included below. Neither Square Enix, Avalanche or NVIDIA have revealed the full list of GameWorks effects used in Just Cause 3, but we can make some quick deductions.
