Diablo IV won't have skill respecs, gamers must grind for skill tomes

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Nov 8, 2019 9:24 PM CST

In its current state, Diablo IV will be a very, very grindy game that won't let you respec or reset skills.

Diablo IV won't have skill respecs, gamers must grind for skill tomes

Blizzard has a few clear-cut goals with Diablo IV. The sequel will be bloody and dark like Diablo II, it'll have Diablo III's core mechanics with tons of DII staples like runes, and most importantly for Blizzard, it'll be a never-ending game with tons of stuff to do. A big part of that last bit centers around near-infinite builds thanks to Diablo IV's huge skill customization options.

Oddly enough, Diablo IV won't have skill respeccing. That means you can't just swig a potion or read a book to reset your skills, hearkening back to old-school Diablo II. Any mistakes you make setting up your skills will be permanent. You can only move forward by leveling up more or acquiring skill tomes from events, quests, and in-game activities.

Diablo IV has cosmetic microtransactions and paid expansions

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Nov 8, 2019 8:31 PM CST

Blizzard isn't about to launch another big Diablo game without microtransactions, and Diablo IV will have the more accepted cosmetic approach.

Diablo IV has cosmetic microtransactions and paid expansions

Microtransactions are a huge part of Blizzard's business (arguably the most important part) and are included in every game. Once a game is released, Blizzard's job is only beginning. The studio uses releases as the inception point for years of monetization through expansions and piecemeal microtransactions. Diablo IV is no different and will embrace Activision-Blizzard's new pinpointed focus on live services, engagement, and monetization.

Luckily Diablo IV's monetization will be cosmetic-only. It won't have a horrible Real-Money Auction House, nor will it be pay-to-win. "Diablo IV will be available as a base game, we'll have expansions, and you'll also be able to acquire cosmetics in the game. It's too early to talk about a shop, but yes," Blizzard designer Joe Shelys told Twitch streamer Quin69.

Death Stranding coming to Steam, isn't Epic Store exclusive

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Nov 8, 2019 6:12 PM CST

Death Stranding's PC release won't be exclusive to the Epic Games Store after all.

Death Stranding coming to Steam, isn't Epic Store exclusive

Contrary to our predictions, Death Stranding will release simultaneously on Steam and the Epic Games Store in Summer 2020. There won't be any staggered launch, and the game won't release first on the Epic Store and then Steam months later. It's being released at the same time on both platforms.

Publisher 505 Games today confirmed the news to the elation of PC gamers everywhere, and we're pretty sure Kojima Productions is happy about this move too. Selling your game on as many storefronts as possible is huge for an independent dev. Steam has a huge 90 million strong monthly active userbase, whereas the Epic Games Store lets Kojima Productions keep 85% of all revenues from games sold on the platform.

Kojima's films will be short, games are still his core focus

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Nov 8, 2019 5:32 PM CST

A bit ago Hideo Kojima said his game development studio will actually start making movies, but these will only be small slices of films. Games will be at the forefront of Kojima Productions.

Kojima's films will be short, games are still his core focus

Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima's latest game, is already a lot like a film. It's a weird hybrid of interactive gameplay with heavy cutscenes that's wrapped up with the auteur's strange style. This is just the beginning for Kojima Productions, and the team will start branching into films. A bit of context is needed here, though, and we won't see Kojima abandoning games in favor of films any time soon.

A recent BBC interview got everyone interested in Kojima's film-making aspirations, but this isn't the first time the Metal Gear Solid creator talked about making movies. "In the future, Kojima Productions will start making films. If you can do one thing well, then you can do everything well," Kojima said. These productions will be smaller-scale endeavors, not blockbuster titles, so don't expect huge marquee movies from Kojima Productions.

Rick and Morty Season 4 opening scene released, shows off giant Morty

The new opening sequence has been released onto the Adult Swim YouTube Channel and shows off some brand new scenes. The opening sequence starts as per usual, but as soon as Rick jumps into his first portal and leaves Morty behind we are introduced to a new scene. We see a giant Morty head with multiple Morty's attached to it floating around outside a planet with a galactic battle occurring.

We then see a half robot crocodile(?) backhanding a bunch of snakes in Ricks garage. Then Rick pulls Morty through a sheet of glass to only be grabbed by a man and beaten up. The sequence then cuts to a giant Morty and then Rick grabbing a gun to defend Beth, Summer and Morty from a double headed goose. Rick and Morty Season 4 will premiere on November 10th at 11:30pm.

In a recent bout of leaked benchmarks which we reported on both here and here, Intel's upcoming Cascade Lake-X HEDT chip has been shown getting pounded by AMD's Ryzen 3000 mainstream lineup.

Take-Two Interactive reiterates that it has tons of new games in the works, including big sequels from its blockbuster franchises.

AT&T gives customers 15GB of 'bonus' data, but force $10 extra a month

Jak Connor | Business, Financial & Legal | Nov 8, 2019 8:02 AM CST

AT&T is giving customers some bonus data to enjoy, but what kind of 'bonus' would this be if a company didn't make you pay for it?

AT&T gives customers 15GB of 'bonus' data, but force $10 extra a month

Yes, I know that sentence is a strange one to read, but its factually correct. AT&T has recently decided to offer Mobile Share plan customers a 'bonus' 15GB of data, which applies to all Share Value plans. Examples of this are the $130 plan that originally gave 30GB of data, now give 45GB and the $225 a month plan that gave 60GB of data, now gives 75GB.

The catch? Well, AT&T is not giving these 'bonuses' out for free. Instead, they will be adding an additional $10 to customers' monthly bills. It should also be noted that these 'bonuses' are not optional and are completely intentional by AT&T. "Starting with your October 2019 bill, you'll get an additional 15GB of data on your Mobile Share plan. This bonus data comes with a $10 price increase." said AT&T in an article.

NASA has opened up a flawless extraterrestrial Moon rock from 1972

Jak Connor | Science, Space, Health & Robotics | Nov 8, 2019 6:12 AM CST

Just this past Tuesday, NASA opened up some lunar samples that were brought back from the Apollo 17 mission. One of those samples was an untouched Moon rock.

NASA has said that the purpose of opening up tests into Apollo 17's samples is to gain insight into the correct techniques to practice for samples that will be returned from the Artemis mission. Francis McCubbin, NASA's astromaterials curator, said that "Opening these samples now will enable new scientific discoveries about the Moon and will allow a new generation of scientists to refine their techniques to better study future samples returned by Artemis astronauts."

CNN reports that most of the samples that were brought back from the Apollo 17 mission have already been under study by scientists at NASA, but a separate group of samples was set aside and stored for testing with more advanced technology. Dr. Sarah Noble, an ANGSA program scientist, said: "We are able to make measurements today that were just not possible during the years of the Apollo program."
