No Man's Sky blasts onto VR later this month
No Man's Sky's big new Beyond update drops in less than two weeks, bringing full VR support and a new online experience.
Ever since I started working at TweakTown my profile highlighted one of my gaming dreams: to see the weird sci-fi splendor of No Man's Sky in VR. That's going to happen very, very soon. Today Hello Games announced No Man's Sky Beyond will drop August 14 as a free update on all platforms, and will support VR on PSVR and Steam VR compatible headsets.
Beyond is the biggest thing Hello Games has ever done. It'll adapt the entire No Man's Sky experience into an interactive, galactic VR exploration extravaganza, and packs in No Man's Sky Online, a new kind of seamless multiplayer where gamers can join up and take on the cosmos. I have to admire Hello Games for making No Man's Sky into a live game that's literally not monetized with microtransactions. Not only that, but the team rolled out a ton of expansion-sized content packs and didn't charge for them.

GameStop is going under, more than 50 'field leaders' fired
GameStop is one of the biggest video game retailers on the market at the moment, and unfortunately the retailer has suffered another blow as the company is preparing to lay off numerous workers.
A memo which was leaked onto Twitter states that more than 50 "field leaders" are in preparation of loosing their jobs. The positions that are queued up to be lost are: regional managers, district mangers, loss prevention managers and HR staff. According to the memo, GameStop is cutting their losses and are looking to "reduce our cost structure and build efficiencies into our field leadership organization so that we can reinvest in the business."
The memo continues and says "These decisions are not easy, but necessary to help us reduce costs to enable revenue-driving initiatives that will help grow the business once again." It seems GameStop are looking at re-structuring their entire business, perhaps this decision has been influenced by the gaming market prominently now purchasing games online rather than physical media. I would think that GameStop would be conceiving a business idea that coincides with both physical media purchasing as well as online purchasing.

3D model of our Milky Way galaxy mapped like never before
Researchers have announced that they have formed a brand new 3D model of our Milky Way galaxy, giving us a much better understanding of the surrounding stars.
Researchers Dorota M. Skowron, Jan Skowron, Przemek Mroz and more published an article in the American Association for the Advancement of Science, revealing a new large-scale model of our Milky Way galaxy and the thousands of Cepheid stars. Cepheid stars are a type of star that pulsates radially and are found scattered across galaxies.
The new scale that has been devised by the researchers enables us to gain a better understanding of the S-like structure inside the Milky Way's warped stellar disc. Co-author, Przemek Mroz said "Our map shows the Milky Way disk is not flat. It is warped and twisted. This is the first time we can use individual objects to show this in three dimensions." Traditional maps of the Milky Way are built upon indirect measurements to celestial landmarks and interference's of other galaxies in the universe.

Astronomers locate 'first nearby super-Earth', possible life
Scientists and astronomers led by Cornell's Lisa Kaltenegger have announced that they have discovered a 'super-Earth' planet in a nearby solar system.
The planet was found using NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite or TESS for short. Kaltenegger, associate professor of astronomy, director of Cornell's Carl Sagan Institute and a member of the TESS science team spoke out about the discovery, saying "This is exciting, as this is humanity's first nearby super-Earth that could harbor life-uncovered with help from TESS, our small, mighty mission with a huge reach."
Astronomers from the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands and the University of La Laguna, both in Spain, said that this planet is located in the Gj 357 system to the journal of Astronomy & Astrophysics. The solar system GJ 357 contains a sun that is about one-third the size of our own, and only has three other planets in the entire system. GJ 357 d, the Earth-like planet is located in what seems to be habitable zone in comparison to its position with the star.

EVGA Precision X 0.4.8.0 intros new 'Boost Lock' feature
EVGA has just launched its new Precision X1 overclocking software, with v0.4.8.0 including something of interest: Boost Lock. Grab EVGA Precision X1 0.4.8.0 here.
Boost Lock is something you can toggle in Precision X1 that locks the maximum GPU boost state at all times, meaning you get maximum performance, all the time. Boost Lock would override the normal dips in GPU clocks when your GPU load is reduced, keeping clocks at their set-high amount.
This new feature seems perfect for enthusiasts, overclockers, and reviewers ras you can lock a specific GPU clock that, something further than the reaches of what the GPU would normally boost up to. I think it is a great addition to Precision X1 by EVGA, hell one of the best new features in a while.

Ninja leaves Twitch, becomes the face of Microsoft's Mixer
The largest streamer in the world has just changed platforms, with Tyler 'Ninja' Blevins leaving Twitch and streaming exclusively with Microsoft Mixer, effective immediately.
There's not much known on the move by Ninja in terms of how much Microsoft paid him, whether there will be a timed exclusive to Mixer for Ninja, but the streamer himself has said "It's the same me, just a different platform". Ninja exploded onto the scene alongside Fortnite, with Microsoft securing Ninja it shows the Xbox creator is getting much more serious about streaming, much quicker.
Ninja will be used in different ways by Microsoft, as he won't just be streaming on Mixer as he will be going to game events throughout 2019 and into 2020 to support Mixer. So in a way, Ninja just became (one of) the face(s) of Mixer, and Microsoft just slammed its foot firmly onto the ground of the streaming world leading into the launch of its next-gen Xbox Scarlett console in 2020.

Remedy teases slick 4K 60FPS gameplay footage of Control
Remedy has really unleashed the hype train for its upcoming g ame Control, first with a slick story trailer that feels so influenced by shows like Fringe and The X-Files, but now we have a new gameplay trailer:
The 8-minute gameplay trailer is courtesy of IGN, and is shown in 4K 60FPS. It definitely irks me that it's played on a console controller, and I can't help but feel like that the entire game is like this. There are some annnoying gameplay traits here (reloading takes ages, the main character grunts every time she uses her powers which I can see both of which annoying me after a while).
Control is definitely shaping up to be a great showcase of NVIDIA's GeForce RTX graphics cards thanks to its full array of real-time ray tracing effects. I definitely need to get the game into my hands to see if the story -- and especially the Fringe/X-Files style conspiracy story is worth it.
