NVIDIA's next-gen Hopper GPU taping out soon: multi-chip module (MCM)

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Jul 21, 2021 8:25 PM CDT

First off, NVIDIA's next-gen Hopper GPU isn't a gaming architecture -- so we're not going to see the GeForce RTX 4080 Ti or something based on the Hopper GPU... but we have the most exciting GPU architecture from NVIDIA to date that is reportedly going to tape out soon.

NVIDIA's next-gen Hopper GPU taping out soon: multi-chip module (MCM)

The new rumors are coming from a mysterious tease on Twitter by "Greymon55" a new name on the leaking scene, which said on Twitter simply "NHWTOS" which within hours the code was broken: NHWTOS was reportedly a cryptic tease of "NVIDIA's Hopper Will Tape Out Soon".

Greymon55 tweeted not long after that, saying "All right, you win".

Elon Musk on Bitcoin and Dogecoin: 'I might pump but I don't dump'

Anthony Garreffa | Cryptocurrency & Mining | Jul 21, 2021 7:42 PM CDT

Elon Musk has confirmed that he personally holds major cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dogecoin -- and that's about it -- outside of owning stock of the companies he created in SpaceX and Tesla.

Elon Musk on Bitcoin and Dogecoin: 'I might pump but I don't dump'

The billionaire announced the news during The B Word conference, during a video call on Zoom with Twitter founder Jack Dorsey and others. During the chat, Musk talked about the fact that he personally holds Bitcoin, and so do SpaceX and Twitter.

Not only that, but Musk doesn't pump and dump -- Musk explained: "If the price of bitcoin goes down I lose money. I might pump but I don't dump. I definitely do not believe in getting the price high and selling or anything like that. I would like to see bitcoin succeed".

Elon Musk has confirmed that he personally owns Bitcoin, telling the world during The B Word conference.

Elon Musk confirms he owns Bitcoin, so do Tesla and SpaceX

Musk said during The B Word conference: "I own Bitcoin, Tesla owns Bitcoin, SpaceX owns Bitcoin". The confirmation comes months after back in March 2021 when Tesla started accepting Bitcoin as payment for its cars, where at the time Musk said: "Tesla is using only internal & open source software & operates Bitcoin nodes directly. Bitcoin paid to Tesla will be retained as Bitcoin, not converted to fiat currency".

Musk also confirmed that the only publicly traded stock that he owns is Tesla's and that he also holds Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dogecoin cryptocurrencies. He said: "The only significant thing I own outside of Tesla is SpaceX".

Beyond Good and Evil 2 hasn't been cancelled, but it still needs more time to bake in the oven.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still in development, Ubisoft confirms

Ubisoft has a lot on its plate right now. The French games-maker is investing hundreds of millions into premium games like the new Assassin's Creed Infinity, while also developing new IPs with engagement in mind. The publisher is forging ahead with its digital-first strategy while simultaneously trying to break into the free-to-play space with games like HyperScape, The Division Heartlands, xDefiant, and Roller Champions.

Meanwhile, projects like Skull and Bones and Beyond Good and Evil 2 have slipped by the wayside. The former just passed alpha 8 years after being announced, and Ubisoft hasn't mentioned the ambitious online space sim since 2018 when Ubisoft called it their biggest game yet.

A Reddit user has shared to moment a tornado enabled the Sentry Mode on an individual's Tesla Model X.

Tesla Model X survives tornado and captures the mayhem on video

For those that don't know, Tesla vehicles are equipped with Sentry Mode, which is a feature that gives the vehicles more protection as it utilizes all of the car's cameras to record its surroundings. A proximity alert triggers Sentry Mode, and these alerts can vary depending on the situation. Apparently, Sentry Mode is triggered when a Tesla is caught in a tornado, according to Reddit user VanillaGorilla.

VanillaGorilla says that he was out with his wife running errands when the Model X was caught right in the middle of a massive storm that tore through the parking lot. As you can see from the footage, the Sentry Mode is activated on the driver's side door, and while the storm does look exceptionally rough, the Reddit user said the Model X was still driveable after it passed. "The car took a beating but is still driveable, so we can't complain", said the user.

Amazon's new game 'New World' is BRICKING GeForce RTX 3090 cards (!!!)

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Jul 21, 2021 6:39 AM CDT

Amazon's new game New World is out in beta form right now, with multiple gamers reporting that the game bricked their super-expensive NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards.

Amazon's new game 'New World' is BRICKING GeForce RTX 3090 cards (!!!)

The closed alpha and beta of New World have been bricking GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards, seeing the cards overheating and power spikes. It seems that New World is bricking EVGA branded GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards the most, but there have been multiple RTX 3090s bricked from New World in just the last few days.

I wanted to actually try it out as I began hearing more about it today while I was working and checking out Twitter, but yeah I think I'll be staying away from New World as I don't want it killing my GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card.

Jeff Bezos and crew complete Blue Origin's first human space flight

Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket took off from Blue Origin's Launch Site One near Van Horn, Texas, at 09:14, am EDT. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was joined by his brother Mark Bezos, Wally Funk, an 82-year-old aviation pioneer, and 18-year-old student Oliver Daemen. The flight has won Blue Origin a few achievements as the company can now say it has put the oldest and youngest person in space.

Blue Origin is very particular with its marketing as the company makes sure to prominently highlight that its space tourist trips pass the Karman line, something that Virgin founder and billionaire entrepreneur Richard Branson's space tourism company Virgin Galactic is unable to with its VSS Unity. Blue Origin made several reminders that its capsule passes the Karman line, which is an "internationally recognized" line that separates Earth's atmosphere from space. The Karman line resides at an altitude of 62 miles.

Evidence of life on Mars has been 'erased', says NASA scientists

Jak Connor | Science, Space, & Robotics | Jul 21, 2021 5:32 AM CDT

NASA's rovers are scouring the surface of Mars for any signs of past life, but according to NASA scientists, signs of life have been "erased".

Evidence of life on Mars has been 'erased', says NASA scientists

NASA's Curiosity rover has been exploring the Gale Crater for quite some time now in an attempt to gain knowledge on the history of the planet's environmental conditions. Researchers know that the crater has been dried out for billions of years, but recently Curiosity compared samples from two areas that are 400 meters apart. The researchers were surprised to find one of the samples had half the amount of clay minerals than the other, and instead held mudstones rich with iron oxides (Mars' red color).

Tom Bristow, CheMin principal investigator at Nasa's Ames Research Center, said, "We used to think that once these layers of clay minerals formed at the bottom of the lake in Gale Crater, they stayed that way, preserving the moment in time they formed for billions of years. But later brines [very salty water] broke down these clay minerals in some places - essentially resetting the rock record."

This electric car that mines crypto may set a new industry standard

Jak Connor | Electric Vehicles & Cars | Jul 21, 2021 4:33 AM CDT

A company has announced an electric vehicle that is capable of mining cryptocurrencies while it was parked.

This electric car that mines crypto may set a new industry standard

According to a report from Wired, the Canadian car manufacturer Daymak will be developing an electric vehicle named Spiritus, which will be available in 2023. The new electric vehicle has already received $350 million in preorders for the vehicle, and as you probably already imaged, Daymak accepts cryptocurrency as payment for the vehicle.

The NVIDIA VP of Worldwide AI Initiatives Keith Strier, said, "The idea has tremendous potential because we're looking at not thousands, but tens of millions of supercomputers in these cars. In the United States or Germany, it may not be as big a deal, but in a smaller country, as autonomous trucks and cars hit the road, it completely shifts the potential for compute (sic) in that country."

First completely artificial heart successfully transplanted in the US

Jak Connor | Science, Space, & Robotics | Jul 21, 2021 3:58 AM CDT

A 39-year-old man has recently received the first completely artificial heart transplant after experiencing sudden heart failure.

First completely artificial heart successfully transplanted in the US

This artificial heart isn't like other artificial hearts as it is able to mirror a human heartbeat, according to the Duke University Hospital. CARMAT developed the artificial heart, and its design is very close to how a human heart is designed with two ventricular chambers and four biological valves.

As for the heartbeat, the patient carries a bag outside of the body to calculates the beats depending on what the sensors inside of the heart are picking up. The patient who received the totally artificial heart was diagnosed with sudden heart failure and a deteriorating condition, making it impossible to have a tranditional heart transplant. However, the Duke Center is a trial location for CARMAT's total artificial heart, which was seemingly used.

Rick and Morty fans notice something pivotal is missing from Season 5

Jak Connor | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Jul 21, 2021 2:32 AM CDT

Rick and Morty fans are enjoying the new episodes that Adult Swim have put out for season 5, but one thing is bothering them.

Rick and Morty fans notice something pivotal is missing from Season 5

One thread on the Rick and Morty subreddit has raised a very interesting question, "where is Rick's portal gun, and why isn't he using it?". Rick's portal gun is a key component of what makes Rick and Morty such an interesting show, as the portal gun allows Rick to travel to any dimension giving him "god-like" powers - outlined in many of the episodes.

The portal gun has yet to be seen in season 5, and fans are wondering why. Some fans speculate that there is some kind of twist teed up for them in the future episodes where they find out that the entire season has been a stimulation and not canonical to the show. Other fans speculate that it's the development of Rick's character, suggesting that Rick is adjusting his behavior to be more accommodating for his family.

Intel Core i9-12900K up to 25% faster than Ryzen 9 5950X in new leaks

Anthony Garreffa | Processors | Jul 20, 2021 11:04 PM CDT

You can already buy Intel's next-gen flagship Core i9-12900K processor on the black market for $1000+ but what about benchmarks? Another day has passed, and more news on Intel's next-gen "Alder Lake-S" CPUs are here this time in the form of benchmarks.

Intel Core i9-12900K up to 25% faster than Ryzen 9 5950X in new leaks

The new Core i9-12900K in its Qualification Sample (QS) form is already faster than AMD's current-gen Ryzen 9 5950X processor, with early benchmark results comparing Alder Lake vs Zen 3 in Cinebench R20. In the single-threaded Cinebench R20 benchmark, the new Core i9-12900K processor is 26% faster than the Ryzen 9 5950X, while in multi-threaded tests it's 11% faster.

This is super, super early so don't go judging the performance from these leaked benchmarks of a Qualification Sample CPU that is months away from being released. Intel's new Core i9-12900K will feature 8 high-performance "Golden Cove" cores and 8 high-efficiency "Gracemont" cores -- for a total of 16 cores and 24 threads. The smaller high-efficiency cores do not have Hyper-Threading (HT).

Resident Evil Village now supports AMD FSR upscaling tech

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Jul 20, 2021 10:42 PM CDT

Resident Evil Village has just been updated on the PC with some new tricks, the largest of which is the inclusion of AMD's upscaling technology, FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR).

Resident Evil Village now supports AMD FSR upscaling tech

The new Resident Evil Village update for PC gamers is a 1GB download on Steam, with the developer noting on Twitter: "FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) from AMD is now supported. FSR supports higher frame rates on PC for an improved gaming experience".

Not only that, but Capcom has made "adjustments" to optimize Denuvo -- the anti-piracy technology on Resident Evil Village. There were issues with the game when it came to Denuvo, with the cracked version of Resident Evil Village running faster without Denuvo... but things should be different now post-update. The problem is, Capcom didn't detail the changes with Denuvo and RE: Village... sigh.

China's new 'ROBO SHARK' underwater drone will hunt US Navy submarines

Anthony Garreffa | Science, Space, & Robotics | Jul 20, 2021 10:19 PM CDT

China has been working on a secret project that was funded by the Chinese military, and partly declassified last week, of an unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) over 10 years ago.

China's new 'ROBO SHARK' underwater drone will hunt US Navy submarines

A robotic shark... yeah, a robotic shark that is capable of recognizing, following, and then attacking an enemy submarine, all without human intervention. A lot has changed in the world of AI and robotics in those 10 years, with technological upgrades offering next-gen features to the ROBO SHARK.

We have China threatening to continuously drop nuclear bombs on Japan if it defends Taiwan, Russia unveiling next-gen S-500 missile defense systems, and even a new F-35 killer fighter jet. But China has to go one up and have a robotic, AI-controlled shark.

Flooding in China: people stuck on train, water up to their shoulders

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | Jul 20, 2021 9:52 PM CDT

At least 12 people are dead, countless are missing and trapped, in massive flooding that has swept through Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province. There are some people trapped on trains down in the subway, in water that is up to their necks... scary footage, check it out:

Flooding in China: people stuck on train, water up to their shoulders

The massive floods demolished roads, railways, airports, highways, buildings, subway systems, and everything in between. It swept away cars, buses, people, with some videos showing a father getting to his son in the flood, and then they were swept away in the flood. I haven't attached that video, but you'll be able to find it online if you search for it.

We don't know how many people are trapped in the city's subway, but the numbers should be large given there's 7 lines and 148 stations. The video above shows people stuck in water that is up to their shoulders, which is horrifying and I can only imagine what those people went, and are still going through.

Flooding blamed for massive explosion at an aluminium plant in China

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | Jul 20, 2021 9:33 PM CDT

An absolutely gigantic explosion in China has rocked the area, with an aluminum alloy unit in Dengfend Power Group Co Ltd in China's central Henan province exploding due to "flooding water" entering the plant.

Flooding blamed for massive explosion at an aluminium plant in China

There are massive floods in China right now, with a river close to the plant exceeding the warning water level -- once that occurred, a factory wall was collapsed. Dengfeng Power Group Co Ltd shut the power off immediately, evacuated everyone out of the plant, but at 6AM local time water entered the high-temperature solution and then kaboom.

The plant itself houses an annual capacity of 60,000 tonnes of alloy rods, high-silicon aluminum alloy, and titanium products. The company says that no one was hurt or killed in the blast -- shockingly -- with the Chinese government performing a safety inspection afterward.

Flying in UFO between San Francisco and London would take 27 minutes

Anthony Garreffa | Science, Space, & Robotics | Jul 20, 2021 9:11 PM CDT

Ever sat there and wondered "gee, I wonder how long it would take me to fly between San Francisco and London in a UFO". I know, me too... and now we know just how long thanks to a handy UFO Travel Calculator.

Flying in UFO between San Francisco and London would take 27 minutes

The UFO Travel Calculator was born out of the massively renewed interest in all-things UFOs, UAPs, aliens, off-world vehicles not made on this earth, and everything in-between. A team of scientists then devised a tool that would calculate the speeds of these purported UFOs.

This calculator works out the speed in which UFOs could travel, with the scientists using engineering and aeronautical principles in order to work out the "advanced technology" inside of these next-gen spacecraft that are probably slow course disclosure, i.e. the military teasing their aircraft while saying "gee guys, we have no idea what that is".

ELSA teases Project Cars 3 x ERAZOR RTX 3060 Ti LHR graphics card

I don't see the point of this graphics card release, like... at all -- but here we are.

ELSA teases Project Cars 3 x ERAZOR RTX 3060 Ti LHR graphics card

Introducing the ELSA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti ERAZOR which is a basic-looking GeForce RTX 3060 Ti that is based on the Inno3D Twin X2 variant -- the same cooler, the same backplate, but the fan stickers are missing off the card. Oh wow.

Anyway, the company worked with Slightly Mad Studios -- the developer behind Project Cars 3. Sure, Project Cars 3 might be on the retail packaging, but unlike yesteryear when the packaging had a game displayed on it and it was included, the ELSA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti ERAZOR does not come with Project Cars 3 bundled.
