The GeForce RTX 4090 D for China is 5% slower with fewer CUDA Cores and the same 24 GB of VRAM

Kosta Andreadis | Graphics Cards | Jan 1, 2024 10:28 PM CST

NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 4090 D is the company's flagship Ada Lovelace GPU for the Chinese market after the existing GeForce RTX 4090 was effectively banned from sale for being too powerful to sell in the region. The GeForce RTX 4090 D complies with all current US government export rules and regulations for selling GPU hardware in the region - and it's launching this month.

The GeForce RTX 4090 D for China is 5% slower with fewer CUDA Cores and the same 24 GB of VRAM

And with that, NVIDIA has updated its GeForce RTX 40 Series line-up with a new entry outlining the GeForce RTX 4090 D specs. In a statement provided to the press, NVIDIA confirms that the GeForce RTX 4090 D is only 5% slower than the existing GeForce RTX 4090 for gaming and creative workloads.

NVIDIA also confirms that it extensively engaged with the US government when developing the GeForce RTX 4090 D.

Grand Theft Auto 5 was going to get 8 single-player DLC packs according to leaked data

Kosta Andreadis | Gaming | Jan 1, 2024 9:31 PM CST

Over the Christmas break, the full source code for Grand Theft Auto V was leaked. This big pile of data comes from the same hacker behind the damaging GTA 6 leaks, Arion Kurtaj - an 18-year-old with autism who was able to hack into developer Rockstar's systems with a simple mobile device in a hotel room.

Grand Theft Auto 5 was going to get 8 single-player DLC packs according to leaked data

Having all of GTA V's source code available is a huge concern for Rockstar, especially with its continued popularity and Grand Theft Auto Online being a juggernaut. Accessing the game's source code could lead to more sophisticated cheats and other exploits.

That said, the arrival of GTA V's source code also means we've now got some confirmation that Rockstar was planning on releasing no less than eight separate single-player DLC packs and expansions for the game.

NVIDIA giving away custom GeForce RTX 4080 Cyberpunk 2077 Edition GPU in China

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Jan 1, 2024 9:01 PM CST

NVIDIA has been hard at work for the Chinese market, first with the newly tweaked AD102-based GeForce RTX 4090 D graphics card exclusive to the Chinese market, and now a giveaway.

NVIDIA giving away custom GeForce RTX 4080 Cyberpunk 2077 Edition GPU in China

The company is giving away a sleek GeForce RTX 4080 Cyberpunk 2077 Edition graphics card, another custom design that features Cyberpunk 2077 all over it. This isn't NVIDIA's first time with a custom Cyberpunk 2077-themed graphics card, as it did so with the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and then the GeForce RTX 3080 Cyberpunk 2077 Edition graphics cards.

NVIDIA's new custom GeForce RTX 4080 Cyberpunk 2077 Edition graphics card is inspired by the Arasaka organization from the Cyberpunk 2077 game itself. It moves away from the usual aesthetic of Cyberpunk 2077 -- yellow and black -- with a black and chrome style that looks beautiful... at least in the photos, I'm sure it looks even better in the flesh.

NVIDIA's new GeForce 546.34 WHQL drivers add support for RTX 4090 D graphics card

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Jan 1, 2024 8:39 PM CST

You can't buy NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 4090 D graphics card in China just yet, but the company has just unleashed new GPU drivers that support the RTX 4090 D. You can grab the new GeForce Game Ready 546.34 WHQL drivers here (670MB download).

NVIDIA's new GeForce 546.34 WHQL drivers add support for RTX 4090 D graphics card

NVIDIA was forced to tweak its AD102-powered GeForce RTX 4090 into the GeForce RTX 4090 D graphics card for the China market after the Biden administration penciled in new US sanctions. The new GeForce RTX 4090 D graphics card has been cut down to meet those new US export restrictions, and now NVIDIA has its new GeForce Game Ready 546.34 WHQL drivers that support the new RTX 4090 D graphics card.

This isn't a new driver with the usual optimizations and fixes, but rather it's a new driver release that is based on NVIDIA's previous mid-December GPU driver release. The change log hasn't changed, as the new GPU drivers also feature Game Ready support for THE FINALS and Fortnite: Chapter 5.

LG has teased its new MyView Smart Monitor family of displays ahead of CES 2024, with the new monitors featuring some nice tricks up their sleeves.

LG teases new 'MyView' 4K smart monitors with a virtually borderless design

The upcoming LG MyView 2024 smart monitors have a similar design style to Apple's own Studio Display, with the smart monitors designed for productivity and entertainment. Inside, they feature the webOS platform, making them "smart" monitors, of course.

The South Korean electronics giant says its new MyView smart monitor features the ability for users to stream movies, TV shows, sports, music, and work remotely... all without the need for a PC. Inside, the new LG MyView 2024 smart monitors feature an LG IPS 4K display with a 60Hz refresh rate -- sorry, gamers -- and a 31.5-inch panel size.

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Jan 1, 2024 7:38 PM CST

NVIDIA is just days away from revealing its new GeForce RTX 40 SUPER series of graphics cards, and now we have more details on the new GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER rumor: 16GB of faster GDDR6X memory at 23Gbps

The upcoming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER graphics card will boast the same 16GB of GDDR6X memory as the GeForce RTX 4080 non-SUPER, except it'll be a little faster. We're hearing that NVIDIA is using 23Gbps GDDR6X modules for its new RTX 4080 SUPER, providing a 2.6% boost in bandwidth.

This means we'll see the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER with 16GB of GDDR6X memory at 23Gbps on a 256-bit memory bus, providing up to 736GB/sec of memory bandwidth. NVIDIA's other two GeForce RTX 40 SUPER series graphics cards: the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER and RTX 4070 SUPER, will retain their 21Gbps GDDR6X memory, the same as their non-SUPER counterparts.

New job listings could give more clues about Sony's upcoming live service game that's based in the Horizon franchise.

Sony's new Horizon live service game may have matchmaking, could come to PC, mobile, and PS5

Multiple reports indicate that Sony and Guerrilla Games have teamed up with Lineage developer NCSoft to make a new live service set in the best-selling Horizon series. The game is said to be an online-based MMORPG with games-as-a-service components. NCSoft is believed to have started work on the game under Project H, and then renaming it to Project Skyline. If this last part is accurate, we can glean some interesting details about the new Horizon live game.

A combination of NCSoft and Guerrilla Games job listings highlight important tidbits about Project Skyline and/or some sort of social-driven online game. NCSoft's Korean division confirms it is working on a "famous overseas IP," which two separate sources have said is the Horizon IP (links here and here).

Morrowind's Tamriel Rebuilt mod may have Tsaesci snake-vampires

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Dec 30, 2023 3:31 PM CST

The beast-men races of Akavir are one of Elder Scrolls' most interesting NPCs that we've never seen, and the ongoing Tamriel Rebuilt mod could be the first to introduce these strange characters.

Morrowind's Tamriel Rebuilt mod may have Tsaesci snake-vampires

In Elder Scrolls lore, Akavir is a place shrouded in mystery. It's a continent to the far east where the old phrase 'here there be dragons' is taken literally. There's myths and legends about bizarre snake-vampires known as Tsaesci and the dragon-tiger men of the Ka Po' Tun clan. We haven't seen these races in mainline Elder Scrolls titles--gamers are only piece things together with books and small dialog snippets.

That should change with the help of one particular mod. The massively ambitious Tamriel Rebuilt mod, which aims to bring the entire worldwide regional landmass of Morrowind to the PC version of The Elder Scrolls III, might feature the mainline series' first-ever in-game tsaesci.

Lords of the Fallen dev working on horror-themed survival game

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Dec 30, 2023 1:15 PM CST

CI Games, the Polish dev/publisher behind the Sniper Ghost Warrior and Lords of the Fallen games, wants to shake up the survival genre.

Lords of the Fallen dev working on horror-themed survival game

A series of new job listings gives us an idea of what CI Games is currently working on. According to a now-deleted Combat Designer job listing, the Polish game-maker's next project will put a spin on the survival horror genre.

The listing says that CI Games will "put a unique twist on the formula," and that the game will be an open-world survival horror game. Lords of the Fallen itself has a macabre style and grim tone with lots of bizarre visual sequences, but it sounds like the devs will kick this up a notch with their next game.

Sony has partnered with auto-maker Honda to create Afeela, a new EV concept that converges the strengths of both companies: Sony's consumer electronics, entertainment, and sensor tech with Honda's 60 years of vehicle expertise. The electric vehicle has a sort of IoT ecosystem where touchscreens replace all components, switches, and dials; the car looks to be mostly digital in regard to human interfacing.

Xbox in hot water for Tweeting AI-generated art to 100,000 people

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Dec 28, 2023 10:32 PM CST

Just a day after The New York Times filed a copyright lawsuit against Microsoft, the Xbox-maker now faces another AI controversy.

Xbox in hot water for Tweeting AI-generated art to 100,000 people

Yesterday, the ID@Xbox Twitter account posted a holiday-themed image of children at play in a winter wonderland. Like Amazon's AI-generated Fallout promo, Xbox's digital Christmas card asked users what their favorite indie game was this year, but it had some irregularities that pretty much denote the tell-tale signs of AI use.

Looking closely at the image makes it pretty clear that AI created it. The sleds have weird control levers attached to them, and the overall color scheme has that "off" quality that all AI art has--the visuals and shadows just seem skewed.

AYANEO and GPD's new clamshell gaming handhelds feature AMD's new Hawk Point APU

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Dec 28, 2023 10:08 PM CST

AYANEO has just announced the world's first dual-screen 8840U handheld with the introduction of its new AYANEO Flip handheld. Inside, it's powered by the new AMD Ryzen 7 8840U "Hawk Point" APU. Check it out:

AYANEO and GPD's new clamshell gaming handhelds feature AMD's new Hawk Point APU

The new AYANEO Flip handheld is a spiritual successor to the super-successful Nintendo DS handheld, where AYANEO has gone with a clamshell design that features a screen hiding alongside a full-sized keyboard (KB variant) or another, but smaller secondary screen (DS variant, get it... Nintendo DS).

AYANEO says that the new Flip handheld series offers both the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U and Ryzen 7 8840U APUs, with both of the APUs fitting into the same socket, featuring near-identical silicon, and virtually the same specifications. Although the Ryzen 7 8840U variant is the "Hawk Point" APU that AMD just announced, which packs an enhanced XDNA1 AI processor... it won't do much inside of the Flip handheld, that is.

Steam's Winter Sale is here, offering good tidings and cheer (and lots of savings).

On a tight budget? Steam has tons of great games on sale for $5

2023 has been a rough year for a lot of people, so if you're skint for cash, Steam once again has you covered. PC gamers can choose from a pretty wide selection of great games at or below $5. Of course you'll be getting back catalog games that can vary from old to relatively fossilized, but there's still some high-quality experiences to be had for under a fiver, like Far Cry 3 and one of my favorite new bullet hell survivor games from 2023, Halls of Torment.

Based on Steam's search page, there are 46,967 items currently on sale for under $5. Most of these are games, namely smaller-scale indies, but there's quite a bit of DLC and extra content like soundtracks thrown in as well. You can find all of the items on sale below $5 via this search link.

TSMC aims for next-gen 1nm-class monolithic chips with 1 trillion transistors by 2030

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | Dec 28, 2023 8:01 PM CST

TSMC has shared new plans for its next-gen chip packages, where the company plans over 1 trillion transistors on its next-gen A10 process node by the year 2030... identical to what Intel has planned, and announced last year.

TSMC aims for next-gen 1nm-class monolithic chips with 1 trillion transistors by 2030

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) shared the news during the recent IEDM conference, where it lists its newer N5 and N4 process nodes, as well as N3 and N3E process nodes. N5 and N4 began their lives back in 2020, while N3 and N3E process nodes started out this year in 2023, while N2 and N2P process nodes will be unleashed in 2025.

NVIDIA's upcoming H200 AI GPU is a monolithic chip with 80 billion transistors, while AMD's upcoming Instinct MI300X AI GPU uses a chiplet design with a whopping 153 billion transistors using a blend of 5nm and 6nm IPs on the MI300X. However, TSMC teases it will have 200 billion transistors on a single monolithic chip with its N3 and N3E process nodes very soon.

NVIDIA splashes huge money on securing HBM3e memory for H200 and B100 AI GPUs

NVIDIA is splashing down cash on next-gen HBM3e memory, where the AI GPU leader is securing enough stock of the new High-Bandwidth Memory for its upcoming Hopper H200 AI GPU and its next-gen Blackwell H200 AI GPU, which both arrive in 2024.

NVIDIA splashes huge money on securing HBM3e memory for H200 and B100 AI GPUs

According to Korean media outlet Biz.Chosun, NVIDIA has placed orders for massive quantities of new HBM3e memory from both SK hynix and Micron. It was only yesterday that SK hynix announced its next-gen HBM4 memory has entered production, ready for 2024, with NVIDIA scooping up as much HBM3e memory as it can right now.

NVIDIA has reportedly pre-paid for around 700 billion to 1 trillion won for its HBM3e orders, which works out to a staggering $775 million USD. Remember: this is just the pre-payment and not the full amount... so we're talking an easy $1 billion (probably much more) in early HBM3e memory orders from NVIDIA alone.
