Apple's next-gen iPhone X could cost $1000+
Apple's next generation iPhone is shaping up well, but we still have no idea what it'll be called - with two rumored names right now in iPhone 8 and iPhone X - I'd go with iPhone X, but hey - that's just me.
Now we have Fast Company reporting that the price being "very likely north of $1000" according to a "source with knowledge of Apple's plans". Apple is expected to leap into the arms of a 5.8-inch OLED display, and will "look something like a smooth black monolith, with few visual interruptions to its sleek design" says Fast Company.
Apple is expected to unveil successors to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in the form of the iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus, its yearly tradition - with 4.7- and 5.5-inch displays, respectively. Apple will continue using LCD displays in the 7S and 7S Plus, but the new iPhone 8/X will use a spiffy new OLED display, like its competitors have been using... for years now.

Tesla will begin test building Model 3 cars on Feb 20
Tesla Motors will reportedly enter "pilot production" of its more affordable Model 3 electric vehicle on February 20, according to "people familiar with the matter", says Reuters.
Reuters' sources didn't say how many Model 3 vehicles would be built in February, but it would most likely be a smaller number of cars in order to test Tesla's assembly system, and the quality of vehicle parts used on the Model 3. Tesla Motors' boss Elon Musk told investors that more than 370,000 customers have put deposits down on the Model 3, with July 2017 set to be the kick off month on production.
Model 3 vehicles will be built in Fremont, California on February 20, and then two days later - Tesla reports its Q4 2016 results. Perfect timing for the production to start, isn't it? Reuters source said: "What better way to stoke the fan base and Wall Street than to wheel out pre-production models".

PS4 Pro 'Boost Mode' provides up to 38% more performance
Sony pushed out its slightly faster PS4 Pro a few months ago, and with the new v4.5 firmware, the unannounced "Boost Mode" was included.
The new "Boost Mode" promised "improved gameplay, higher frame rates, for some games that were released before the introduction of the PS4 Pro". Fast forward to now, the fine folks at Digital Foundry have used the PS4 Pro's Boost Mode, reporting that some games enjoy a massive 38% performance increase.
The increase in performance depends on the game, but with Destiny used as an example - there is no performance benefit, as the game is locked to 30FPS. But in something like Battlefield 1, it can "stay at a solid 60FPS in Boost Mode, without the frequent frame-rate dips that can occur during a 64-player match in base mode".

Project CARS 2 aims for late 2017 release on PC/console
Project CARS 2 is in the works, with developer Slightly Mad Studios showing off the debut trailer to the game, and man - does it look GOOD.
Slightly Mad Studios is aiming for a late 2017 release of Project CARS 2, which will be released on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game will have over 60 tracks, and 170 cars - a big increase over the 30 tracks, and 74 cars that launched with the original Project CARS.
Project CARS 2 will have you racing across ice, dirt, mud, and snow - as well as what seems like one of the best-looking dynamic weather systems, and realistic physics. Project CARS 2 will support triple 4K monitors for hardcore enthusiasts and pixel pushers like me, pushing a massive 11,520 x 2160.

Logitech's new Brio 4K Pro webcam costs $199, is out now
Logitech has been on top of the webcam game for years now, and it looks like it will continue that lead with their new Brio 4K Pro webcam.
Logitech's new Brio 4K Pro webcam is capable of streaming 4K HDR directly onto the internet, and it shoots real 4K - so we have 4096x2160, versus 3840x2160 that we have on TVs and monitors right now.
Comparing Logitech's new Brio 4K Pro webcam against some of their competitors like Razer's new Stargazer and Logitech's own C922, both of them shoot 1080p. Logitech's latest webcam is capable of streaming 4K video at 30FPS, or 1080p 60FPS if you want something smoother.

AMD Ryzen R7 1800X: 8C/16T CPU for $649?
AMD is close to the release of their Ryzen processors, with 17 chips expected to be unveiled in the Ryzen family from the R3, R5, and R7 processors.
Now we're seeing some preliminary pricing on the R7 1800X at around 600 EUR or $641, the Ryzen R7 1700X at 470 EUR or $502, and the 8C/16T chip in the R7 1700 priced at 390 EUR - or $416. We could see these prices slightly higher, and I think a $699 price will be applied to the flagship R7 1800X processor, personally.
As for the launch, it's being said it'll happen late February, with a retail launch of March 2. My industry sources say that the chips will be hitting 4.2-4.3GHz maximum when overclocked, while LN2 overclockers should hit 5GHz easily.

Nintendo Switch could get Wii U game remasters
Although the Nintendo Switch isn't fully backward compatible with Wii U games, and won't play the games in your existing Wii U games library, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima confirms the handheld-console hybrid can indeed emulate Wii U games...and we could even see Wii U game "remasters" on the Switch.
When asked by TIME if the Switch would ever get Wii U game support, Mr. Kimishima confirmed that Wii U games must be "remade" to be playable on the Switch: "We can take games and bring them and make them playable on Switch. So they can be remade for Switch, yes."
The Nintendo President goes on to iterate that the games must be remade...however those remade Wii U games could get "enhanced" to benefit the Switch's beefier NVIDIA Tegra processor, similar to how older PS4 games get PS4 Pro enhancement patches to leverage the system's beefier hardware.

Red Dead Redemption 2 won't be delayed, and here's why
Today I've seen reports that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be delayed possibly as far as September 2018. I'm quite confident this is wrong, and here's why.
Yesterday Take-Two Interactive announced its third-quarter earnings for 2017 (which were quite amazing, read more here), and re-confirmed Red Dead Redemption 2's release for 2017. "Looking ahead, our Company has a robust long-term development pipeline and is better positioned for success than at any time in its history," Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said. "We expect to grow both bookings and net cash provided by operating activities in fiscal 2018, driven by our release slate led by Rockstar Games' highly anticipated launch of Red Dead Redemption 2."
Red Dead Redemption 2 is slated to release in Fall 2017, which usually translates to September or October. Fall 2017 is part of Take-Two's Fiscal Year 2018 (FY2018); the FY2018 fiscal year starts on April 1, 2017 and ends on March 31, 2018. Now if Take-Two had delayed the game to September 2018, as this article postulates, that would be the next fiscal year, FY2019, not FY 2018. This would clash with the CEO's statements about high profitability for FY18, which would damage shareholder outlook.

Take-Two's plan to push more free-to-play mobile games
Rockstar's parent company Take-Two Interactive is keen on pushing farther into the mobile gaming market, which pulls in an estimated $40 billion a year.
So far Take-Two has had moderate success in mobile games with its NBA 2K companion app and the WWE Supercard free-to-play card game. Both apps have generated an impressive and consistent flow of earnings, but the company wants to penetrate the market in a more direct way. Take-Two already understands microtransactions and "recurring consumer spending" all too well: a sizable chunk of its earnings are from microtransaction purchases in games like GTA Online and NBA 2K games.
But mobile gaming is different, and takes a more seasoned push. That's where Social Point comes in.

GTA V ships 75 million units, still earning tons of cash
Over three years after its original release, Grand Theft Auto V continues to push boundaries and earn serious cash for Rockstar and Take-Two.
Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two Interactive today revealed their Q3 2017 earnings, and GTA V as well as its online component was a big earner. In fact, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed that Grand Theft Auto V has sold-in (shipped) more than 75 million units and was the sixth highest selling game on all platforms in 2016.
"GTA V and GTA Online continue to outperform our expectations, as they have in every quarter since their release. GTA V remains the highest rated game of the current console generation with sell-in amounts surpassing 75 million units. According to NPD which combines digital and physical sales, GTA V was the sixth highest selling game in all games on all platforms in 2016," Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said during the company's Q3 2017 earnings call.

The factory in Tianjin, China, caught fire on Wednesday and according to Samsung's spokesperson, they experienced a "minor fire." The incident happened at a waste depository within the factory and had no influence on battery production.
According to the South China Morning Post, it took 19 fire engines and 110 firemen to get the "minor fire" under control.

GTA V and Grand Theft Auto Online boost TakeTwo earnings
Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive today revealed strong third-quarter 2017 financials bolstered by repeated success of Grand Theft Auto V and its monetized engagement-driven online GTA Online component.
The earnings call made one thing clear: like EA, Take-Two has a potent formula regarding engagement and recurring consumer spending. This money-making strategy has manifested strongest with GTA Online, which continues to pull in quite a bit of earnings for Take-Two and Rockstar.
Sales and earnings were up in the three-month quarter, and recurrent consumer spending grew to a record high of 55%, signalling that tons of GTA Online, NBA 2K and mobile players continue to spend their money on in-game microtransactions, DLC content, and other in-game based purchases.

Overwatch will soon have CTF mode, and a server browser
Normally a game launches with or without a server browser, and if it launches without a server browser - usually the developer will say it's either coming soon, or not at all.
Blizzard have decided with 'not at all' with Overwatch, but it seems the developer has been cooking a server browser for Overwatch in the background. Blizzard teased the server browser at Blizzcon, but now it's even closer - with the server browser letting you create and search for custom games in a public list, divided by region.
Overwatch will soon receive a new patch that will include the server browser, but the new patch will also let you gain XP in custom games, just as you do in Quick Play, Arcade, and Competitive modes.

Sony's new camera sensor shoots 1080p video at 1000FPS
One of the most successful parts of Sony is its mobile camera division market, with the company having their sensors in many flagship smartphones - but their new one? Yeah, it's going to be even better.
Sony has been teasing a new sensor that will be capable of capturing 1000FPS at 1080p, which allows you to slow the video down 64x. In the current smartphone camera sensors, there is no mechanical shutter, which is why we have that horizontal scrolling effect when panning quickly, or with fast-moving objects.
A new layer of DRAM has been added to Sony's new camera sensors, directly into the camera sensor - something that will let the sensor process and buffer frames at a much quicker rate, resulting in a higher frame rates. This will reduce the horizontal scrolling effect, resulting in smoother video.
