AMD Ryzen 5: best CPU launch in 7 years, says new survey
We all know that AMD's mid-range Ryzen 5 family of processors have been one of the best bang for buck CPUs released in quite a while, but according to a new survey that 3DCenter ran - AMD's Ryzen 5 processors are the best CPU product launch since they first started doing these surveys... all the way back in 2010.
The survey saw 83.9% of people having a "positive" view on Ryzen 5, while 9.4% were "indifferent" and just 6.7% thought negatively of Ryzen 5. Personally, I think Ryzen 5 is one of the best launches in years, mainly from a cores/thread value per dollar perspective. Intel will offer 4C/4T or 4C/8T for the same cost as AMD's new Ryzen 5 chips which provide 6C/12T for the same cost.

GIGABYTE teases AORUS M.2 Thermal Guard heatspreader
We can expect GIGABYTE to unveil a new AORUS-branded M.2 Thermal Guard, a new M.2 heatspreader for your M.2 SSD - and hopefully, on your GIGABYTE/AORUS motherboard.
MSI recently released their own M.2 Shield, a M.2 SSD heatspreader that wasn't as well received as they probably thought - as most people didn't report that it made their M.2 operate any cooler. Hopefully GIGABYTE does things differently with their upcoming AORUS M.2 Thermal Guard, and I'm sure we'll see a new high-end motherboard unveiled at Computex - most likely on Intel's next-gen X299 chipset, something they're expected to unveil on May 30.

Adopt 'A Street Cat Named Bob' in our Blu-ray giveaway!
To celebrate this week's release of the smash hit thriller 'A Steet Cat Named Bob' on Blu-ray, DVD and digital, we have 10 Blu-rays to give away thanks to our friends at Universal Sony Home Entertainment.
Sometimes it takes nine lives to save one. When James Bowen found an injured, ginger street cat curled up in the hallway of his sheltered accommodation, he had no idea just how much his life was about to change. James was living hand to mouth on the streets of London and the last thing he needed was a pet. Yet James couldn't resist helping the strikingly intelligent tom cat, whom he quickly christened Bob. He slowly nursed Bob back to health and then sent the cat on his way, imagining he would never see him again. But Bob had other ideas. Soon the two were inseparable and their diverse, comic and occasionally dangerous adventures would transform both their lives, slowly healing the scars of each other's troubled pasts.
To go into the running to win a prize, simply correctly answer the following question:

Red's 8K camera used in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now out, with a new behind the scenes video detailing how director James Gunn used the incredible Red 8K Weapon camera.
The team used Red's new 8K Weapon camera for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and it shows, it's an incredibly vibrant and highly detailed result. They could use the Red 8K Weapon camera for handheld close ups, or weird angles and rigs - versus an IMAX camera that is a mammoth beast in comparison.
I've personally seen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in IMAX recently, down here in Melbourne, Australia - and I wondered how the movie looked so utterly gorgeous. I knew IMAX quality was great, as I've seen plenty of flicks in IMAX (including Interstellar in 70mm IMAX which was freakin' mind blowing) - but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is one of the best-looking movies out there - and now we know why: Red's 8K Weapon camera.

SEGA continues teasing Vanquish PC release
SEGA's Vanquish PC teasers are getting more and more obvious.
Following the celebrated release of Platinum's beloved hack-and-slash game Bayonetta on PC, SEGA has already promised that more of its classic franchises will come over to PC. This prompted fans to near-unanimously request another PlatinumGames gem: Vanquish.
And it appears SEGA will listen to its fans. The publisher first put a teaser for Vanquish inside Bayonetta's PC port, and now the publisher flagrantly teased it on its SEGA Europe Twitter account.

AMD Radeon RX Vega custom cards could be at Computex
We've been reporting on AMD's next-gen Radeon RX Vega graphics card family like mad, with our exclusive report that AMD will have less than 16,000 units available in the months post-launch. Now we're hearing rumbles of what Computex will hold for AMD's return to the high-end graphics card market.
Computex 2017 kicks off on May 30, which is only a couple of weeks away - and we'll be there. VideoCardz is reporting that PowerColor have been sending out invitations to the media for meetings during Computex, where they will be showing off "new technologies and other latest products", which could be a tease towards Radeon RX Vega.
I've personally heard from my own industry sources that Radeon RX Vega might show up, depending on whether AMD releases it before Computex - if they do, I've heard that AIB partners will indeed have custom Radeon RX Vega graphics cards on show. Computex 2017 is only a few more weeks away, so we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Far Cry 5 old West game might happen
Rumor has it that Ubisoft's new Far Cry 5 could have a very different kind of setting: a Spaghetti Western FPS set in 19th century old west with gunslingers, cattle rustlers, and saloons.
The rumor was started by Nerdbite and YouTuber Silentc0re, who followed a string of clues from a particular newspaper called Great Falls Tribune. According to the Tribune, a film crew has arrived at a particular church in Montana to record a promo reel for an upcoming video game. Production teams will use video captured from 5,000 miles from California to Montana, strongly hinting at a Old West theme, especially since the church (Mni-Sda (Still Water) Presbyterian Church) has strong historical ties to Lakota Sioux Chief Sitting Bull.
"This is a sequel to an existing global franchise," Jeff Guillot, account director for production studio Nightcall Productions, who's involved with the shooting, told the Tribune.

LG captures a record 20% of the US smartphone market
While Samsung and Apple still rule the smartphone market, LG has shown significant growth globally, and they captured a record 20% of the US smartphone market in Q1 2017.
According to Strategy Analytics, the company has sold 7.3 million smartphones in the first quarter of 2017 (up 3-points year over year).
The report contributes this success to the steady sales of LG's lower-price model, K and X series. The company's latest flagship, the LG G6, wasn't included in this report since it only hit the US market in April.

ESA 3D prints bricks which may help build lunar colonies
A base on the Moon is many scientists' dream because it would set a new milestone in space exploration. According to observations from NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) spacecraft that might be much more complicated than previously thought.
According to NASA's last year's data, the Moon experiences a heavier bombardment by small meteoroids than models had previously predicted. This revelation implies that equipment placed on the Moon for long durations, such as a lunar base, will have to be sturdier.
Of course, building on the Moon wouldn't be easy, but the ESA produced their first 3D printed brick, which could help with the building material. Bricks have been 3D printed out of simulated moondust using concentrated sunlight - proving in principle that future lunar colonists could one day use the same approach to build settlements on the Moon.

Tekken producer: Japan can't compete with Western games
Despite strong sales and acclaim of key Japanese titles, and the sense that overseas devs "make the best games", Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada doesn't think Japan will ever be at the top of the gaming world again.
Japan once reigned over the games industry, especially during the early days of console gaming. But over the years Western developers and publishers--including Europe and North America--slowly took back the industry from Japanese devs. Fast-forward to modern days and we see U.S.-based giants like Activision-Blizzard and EA conquering the market with key billion-dollar franchises, whilst Japanese companies like Capcom, Konami, SEGA, and Bandai Namco weather the market with strategic diversified footholds.
While Japanese games are typically heralded as the pinnacle of excellence--especially games like Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Persona 5--some key Japanese devs don't think the Land of the Rising Sun will ever be back on top.

Dead Island 2 dev is making exciting progress
Despite no official details on Dead Island 2, Deep Silver says the game is still in development and making progress.
Dead Island 2 has had a troubled development. The sequel was originally in development by German game dev Yager (Spec Ops: The Line), but the studio dropped out and handed development to Sumo Digital because the team had a "better understanding of the brand" without straying to far from Yager's original vision. Back in March 2016, Sumo Digital took over development of Dead Island 2...and then all updates and info ceased.
More than a year later, Dead Island 2 publisher has stayed quiet about the project. Eurogamer decided to break the silence and flat out ask the publisher what's happening with the sequel, and Deep Silver replied by saying the game hasn't been abandoned, and Sumo Digital is making exciting progress.

OnePlus 5 might come with 8GB of RAM and a higher price
OnePlus has recently confirmed that they will launch the OnePlus 5, the successor to the OnePlus 3/3T, this summer.
The highly-anticipated smartphone should be the company's flagship that could compete with the recently launched Galaxy S8.
We know that the device will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835, but other specs are still a bit vague. OppoMart recently listed the OnePlus 5 on their website at a price of $449, and according to them, the phone should come with 6GB of RAM, 64GB/128GB of internal storage, and dual rear camera setup (12MP+12MP).

Moto Z2 Play specs leak: Thinner phone, smaller battery?
The Moto Z Play was announced back in August last year, and now, the company is preparing to unveil its successor, the Moto Z2 Play.
According to Evan Blass at VentureBeat, the Moto Z2 Play will be slightly thinner and lighter than last year's model, which would put the device more in-line with the rest of the Z series. However, to make the phone thinner, the company had to compromise somewhere which resulted in smaller battery capacity, according to the report. The original Moto Z Play had a 3,510 mAh battery, while the Moto Z2 Play is expected to feature a 3,000 mAh one.
The display will remain the same, 5.5-inch Super AMOLED with 1080 x 1920 resolution, but the other specs of the phone will receive an upgrade.

Rumor: Obsidian is making Fallout New Vegas 2
UPDATE: Sources close to Obsidian Entertainment tell TweakTown that Fallout: New Vegas 2 isn't in development, but Obsidian might be working on something better.
Sources say that Fallout creator Tim Cain is leading a new IP that will essentially be Obsidian Entertainment's answer to the Fallout universe, and may be a classic cRPG. Click here for more details.
Despite being quite busy developing a cRPG sequel, and outright denying the reports, rumors say Obsidian Entertainment is not only developing Fallout: New Vegas 2, but it'll be revealed at E3 2017.

Air Force's X-37B lands after secret 2-year mission
The Air Force's X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle mission 4 has landed at NASA's Kennedy Space Center Shuttle Landing Facility on May 7th, after 718 days in orbit.
The Air Force's statement says that the X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle, or OTV, is an experimental test program to demonstrate technologies for a reliable, reusable, unmanned space test platform for the U.S. Air Force. The primary objectives of the X-37B are twofold; reusable spacecraft technologies for America's future in space and operating experiments which can be returned to, and examined, on Earth.

Tesla will double the number of Superchargers this year
Tesla began building the Supercharger network in 2012, and today, they have over 5,400 Superchargers with the goal of enabling convenient long distance travel for more than 200,000 Tesla owners around the world. The company also built a network of more than 9,000 Destination Charging connectors that replicate the convenience of home charging by providing hotels, resorts, and restaurants with Tesla Wall Connectors.
Tesla Motors started this year with over 5,000 Superchargers globally, and by the end of this year, the company will double that number to total more than 10,000 Superchargers and 15,000 Destination Charging connectors around the world. In North America, Tesla will increase the number of Superchargers by 150 percent, and in California alone, they will add more than 1,000 Superchargers.
In their blog post, titled 'Charging Is Our Priority,' the company explained their plans:

Turok 2's new high-def texture pack released
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter was one of the best-looking first-person shooters of the mid-90s on the PC and Nintendo 64, even when it was a fog-of-war filled game.
For me, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil didn't have the same feel, but there's now a high-def texture pack for the game from modder 'grabeskuehle'. The texture pack keeps with Turok 2's original look and feel, but the modder has provided some gorgeous 2048x2048 phototextures.
There will be future revisions of the high-def texture pack that will replace the older textures in the first 4 worlds, and a future update that will improve the last two levels too - as well as the textures for the character/enemy models, and the weapons. You can download the high-res texture pack for Turok 2: Seeds of Evil right here.

Oculus founder turns up in Japan, wearing a bikini
Oculus founder Palmer Luckey was effectively booted out of the real-world of Oculus not too long ago, and the billionaire VR startup founder is now parading around in Japan in a bikini... yeah, I know.
Luckey was in Japan for the spinoff from Anime convention Machi Asobi that has morphed into a VR festival, where he was hanging out with his girlfriend and spotted by eager fans. Luckey was dressed as Quiet from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which The Verge reports that the character like to wear a bikini because "she breaths through her skin".

Infamous SNES PlayStation Prototype now fully working
It's been a few years since the infamous SNES PlayStation Prototype was revealed to the world, and now legendary electronics expert Ben Heck has restored it to full working order. Check out his video below which shows how he managed to get a once fabled piece of gaming history to work.
Allegedly found in a box belonging to an old Nintendo employee, the SNES PlayStation Prototype wasn't operating at all when Ben Heck first came across it, but was soon able to get the Super Nintendo components to work and play a few commercial titles. However apart from some basic functionality with the CD ROM drive, the most interesting part of the unit; the early PlayStation prototype wasn't correctly functioning and with a lack of technical specs and time with the unit, Heck wasn't able to get it operating. Until now, that is.
In a matter of year, the legendary SNES PlayStation prototype has gone from a fable, to a fully functioning product. And that's very, very cool.

AMD Radeon RX Vega: less than 20,000 available at launch
AMD will be releasing its next-gen Radeon RX Vega family of graphics cards in the next few weeks, and now I've had an exclusive industry source who has told me that AMD will have only a handful of Radeon RX Vega graphics cards at launch.
I've been told that there will be less than 16,000 cards that will ship in the first few months after it launches, something that will come down to the HBM2 used on the card. HBM2 is in extremely limited supply, and is expensive to use - and since there's not enough, that scarcity is driving up the production costs of the card - and will see AMD only having 16,000 cards or so in the months post-launch.
If this is true, AMD could be in a very rough spot with Radeon RX Vega - especially if it was to deliver on performance. There are hundreds of thousands of thirsty Radeon fans that want a next-gen graphics card, and the hype train for Radeon RX Vega is simultaneously withering out - and burning hotter than the sun. Personally, I want AMD to hit a home run with Radeon RX Vega - but at the same time, NVIDIA has completely secured the high-end market with the GTX 1080 and GTX 1080 Ti.
