RuneScape player harms family by spending $61,000 on microtransactions
Elrond says in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring, "I was there Gandalf, I was there 3000 years ago when the strength of men failed". Just like Elrond, I was there when Jagex first introduced microtransactions into the live game.
I have been playing RuneScape for over 10 years now and never have I seen a community more fired up and worried at the same time then when Jagex first introduced microtransactions into their game. Ultimately, this plus the introduction of Evolution of Combat killed RuneScape, and resulted in the company polling their players opinions on re-rolling the servers back to 2007scape, which is what we now know as Old School RuneScape today.
At first the microtransactions weren't that big of deal because they weren't worth the real-world money for the in-game items or chance through the Sequel of Fortune. That later changed when Jagex started leaning much more towards promotions for the Sequel of Fortune (basically an in-game slot machine) and rewarded players exponentially with experience boosters, gear etc etc. This caused the community to be outraged as players who had extra real-world money to spend had a clear and unsettling advantage over players who just put the time into reaching their set goals.

These wireless earbuds can unlock your phone with your ear canal
A massive part of the push for the ever-growing technology industry is undoubtedly the want for the most convenience possible. So how about some wireless earbuds that can unlock your phone via reading your ear canal.
A team out of the University at Buffalo noticed that most of youth that was walking around campus started adopting wireless headphones, which made them wonder what else could be done with this technology. Computer scientist Zhanpeng Jin who is an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in the UB School of Engineering and Applied Sciences said "We have so many students walking around with speakers in their ears. It led me to wonder what else we could do with them."
So Jin and his team took the earbuds and came up with something that has been called EarEcho. EarEcho is a biometric tool that uses modified wireless earbuds to authenticate users' smartphones, which is done through the reading of the users unique geometrical ear canal. According to this month's Proceedings of the ACM on Interactive, Mobile, Wearable and Ubiquitous Technologies journal, the prototype EarEcho had a roughly 95% success rate on the users it was tested on.

NASA head wouldn't bet his child's birthday on Moon landing by 2024
With NASA in full swing towards meeting their White House imposed goal of landing back on the Moon by 2024, one of the companies heads has actually doubted the projects success.
Kenneth Bowersox, who is an acting associate administrator for human exploration spoke to a Congressional subcommittee, saying that "I wouldn't bet my oldest child's upcoming birthday present or anything like that." For those that don't know, the Trump administration urged NASA back in March to speed up its Moon-landing plans by four years, solidifying the now 2024 landing date.
Bowersox continued and said that even though he doubts that NASA will be able to achieve the goal of landing back on the Moon by 2024, its still good that the space exploration company has a "aggressive goal." Speaking to U.S Rep. Bill Posey, R-Florida, Bowersox said "There's a lot of risk in making the date, but we want to try to do it."

Police testing Spider-Man-style take down that would wrap up baddies
A new technology is being trialed by police departments in the United States with a Spider-Man-style device that shoots out a tether, which fires out fast and entangles and restrains the suspect -- all without harm.
Tasers killed 49 people in 2018 so it makes sense to use a harmless method to subdue people, with the new 'BolaWrap' portable device firing an 8-foot (2.4m) bola-style tether that entangles a suspect at the waist, or around the legs.
Wrap Industries is behind the BolaWrap with company president Tom Smith explaining: "Whether it is a Taser, pepper spray, baton ... there's been this gap created by the courts requiring that a higher level of force be used at the appropriate time. This tool fits perfectly into that gap giving the officers another option to use before having to use that high level of force to end that conversation very early, very safely".

Jonah Hill is has been getting more and more serious since his comedic start in Superbad, riding into huge movies like Wolf of Wall Street and many more, but now he's going to be directing a new Instagram TV series about bullying.

PlayStation 5 Pro rumored to launch alongside regular PS5
Microsoft will most likely launch a family of next-gen Xbox consoles in its Xbox Scarlett family, and I'm hoping we will continue to see lower-end offerings in the Xbox One S and Xbox One X once Scarlett launches -- but what about Sony?
Most people are expecting Sony to launch one console, the new PlayStation 5 -- but according to the latest rumors we might see a base PS5 console joined by a higher-end PS5 console that could be called PlayStation 5 Pro, or something else entirely.
Japanese journalist Zenji Nishikawa reports that Sony will launch a base PlayStation 5 joined by a higher-end PlayStation 5 Pro model, instead of launching a base console following up with the Pro variant like it did with the PlayStation 4, and then PlayStation 4 Pro.

David Lynch inspired Control's bizarre visuals and surreal overtones
As if it needed to be said, Remedy confirms its strange new game Control was directly influenced by Twin Peaks director David Lynch.
Even when Control was first announced we could identify the exact vibe Remedy was going for. I described it as The Twilight Zone meets Twin Peaks meets The X-Files, and that comparison still stands today. It's a monument to all sorts of pop culture influences, melded together in a strange brew, a fever dream of weirdness. In many ways it's like travelling to another dimension that doesn't follow the rules of logic, reason, or general physics--it bends the mind and contorts expectations, creating something unique.
Now Remedy discusses how its aesthetics, tone, and visuals came to be, citing influences from Kubric, Lynch, and even FromSoftware's hard-as-nails Dark Souls series.

Cuphead's soundtrack is tremendously popular, tops Billboard's charts
Cuphead's tunes become the first video game soundtrack to top Billboard's jazz charts.
There's nothing quite like Cuphead. With hand-drawn animations straight out of a golden age cartoon, it's probably the most visually-striking indie on the market. But it'd lose a lot of magic without its soundtrack, and apparently jazz fans agree: The game's soundtrack is #1 on Billboard's jazz music charts for the week of September 14.
Cuphead is like time-travelling to the 1930s, when fast-tempo jazz and old-time piano notes invigorated smoke-hazy clubs. It's a unique and spellbinding journey, and the soundtrack really captures the authentic vibes of the period. Whether it's a slow meandering melody as you roam across the world map, or a pulse-racing xylophone beat punctuated by bombastic trumpets, the soundtrack is absolutely excellent and worth your time (and money).

Microsoft further obfuscates Xbox gaming earnings figures
Microsoft will now include services in with Xbox earnings, making it harder to discern specific revenue sources.
Microsoft is a service-first company. With a ton of subscriptions, monetization hooks, and engagement services, Xbox is now a service-first business and game sales are essentially ancillary to these recurring revenues sources. Every quarter we tackle Microsoft's Xbox earnings metrics, and soon it'll get more difficult to chart growth or loss. Right now Microsoft only reports two gaming metrics in its investor report slides: Xbox LIVE monthly active users and Xbox Gaming revenue. Soon even this will change.
Microsoft is notorious for withholding key data from consumers, investors, and analysts. For example, it stopped reporting total Xbox hardware sales a while back. Now it's going to lump in its billion-dollar services and subscriptions like Xbox LIVE, Xbox Game Pass, and soon Project xCloud with game and hardware sales. This also includes microtransactions. The new label is Xbox Content & Services Revenue Growth and will replace the current recorded revenue metrics.

Sony State of Play set for September 24, won't include PS5 news
Sony today announced its next State of Play event will kick off September 24, 2019 at 4PM EST.
Sony's new State of Play showcase should highlight progress made on first-party games, but there won't be any news on the next-gen PlayStation 5. So what can we expect? New The Last of Us Part II info is guaranteed (possibly with its rumored February 2020 release date), and we'll likely get updates on Ghosts of Tsushima and maybe even some Death Stranding content. The show will last a brisk 20 minutes but it should 100% be focused on games without any filler.
The company teases some exciting reveals, too. We could see a confirmation of Insomniac's next game (probably Spider-Man 2) and maybe even a reveal of Guerrilla's next Horizon Zero dawn sequel. There's also rumors Sony Santa Monica is crafting the next God of War, too.
