The US Department of Defense has tweeted out a new video showing that its unmanned ship, the USV Ranger, firing an SM-6 missile successfully during a recent test. Check it out:

Back in 2017, the US Department of Defense kick-started its new program of getting at least two robot ships that the US Navy could use autonomously. The US Navy worked with the Department of Defense's Strategic Capabilities Office, and became part of the "Ghost Fleet Overlord" program, giving me some Skynet vibes.

With a regular ship, there is a chain of command before the rocket leaves the ship for its intended target -- but for an autonomous Terminator-style warship, things are a little different. Human sailors in the US Navy (and other Navy fleets) must follow the Law of the Sea Convention -- the United Nations and its list of rules and practices countries agree on.

A modder has used a CH SN530 NVMe SSD -- the NVMe M.2 SSD used inside of Microsoft's next-gen Xbox Series X/S series consoles -- and a CFexpress to SSD M.2 NVMe adapter and expanded the storage in his Xbox Series X console.

The adapter itself is limited to 1.7GB/sec reads and 1.48GB/sec writes, and is an alternative to the only official expandable storage for the Xbox Series X/S console outside of the Seagate Xbox 1TB. This isn't that great, as you only have the single option (Seagate's Xbox 1TB storage drive) for your next-gen Xbox Series X/S expandable storage needs.

You can see the drive plugged into the CFexpress to SSD M.2 NVMe adapter, but this adapter isn't easy to find. It's reserved for content creators and mostly photographers, who work with Compact Flash (CF) cards. The modder notes that someone tries to "plug the camera card (CFexpress Type-B, PCIe 3.0 x2, 2000MB/s) into the Xbox, and an incompatible prompt popped up".

Intel was meant to not be replacing the reference CPU cooler with its new 12th Gen Core "Alder Lake" CPUs according to previous rumors, but now a new rumor -- this time with pictures -- suggests the company will be refreshing its reference CPU cooler.

The retail boxed versions of the Intel 12th Gen Core CPUs will reportedly be refreshed, with the coolers named Laminar RH1, RM1, and RS1 coolers. The early designs look pretty damn good and will have Intel step up to the same level that AMD has been at for a while with its greatly improved reference CPU cooler.

All of the new purported Intel reference CPU coolers are different in design, with the Laminar RH1 is much taller than the RM1 and RS1 cooler. Intel -- if this rumor is true -- will be a big deal as it'll be the first time in many, many years that Intel has changed the reference CPU cooler on its new-gen CPUs.

A new RDNA 2-powered crypto mining card has been spotted, with a new GPU pictured in China and mining Ethereum with 39MH/s of hash power.

We now have some photos of an XFX-branded Navi 22 GPU and 10GB of GDDR6 memory, which could be a Radeon RX 6700 or even a repurposed Radeon RX 6700M mobile GPU. VideoCardz was tipped by a reader, with the Navi 22-based mining card hitting 39.06MH/s and the GPU reaching 92C.

When it comes down to the specifications of the new GPU, GPU-Z displays that this card has the same specifications as AMD's mobile-focused Radeon RX 6700M. The Radeon RX 6700M is based on the Navi 22 GPU and packs 2304 Stream Processors, and 10GB of GDDR6 on a 160-bit memory interface, and up to 344GB/sec memory bandwidth.

It seemed that under President Donald J. Trump the world was a much safer place, especially as he made historic peace deals with North Korea -- but now? Now, things are getting worse.

During the recent 17th NATO conference on arms control and weapons of mass destruction, North Atlantic Treaty Organisations (NATO) Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg explained that North Korea was in violation of the arms control rules and advancing nuclear capabilities.

Stoltenberg said that North Korea is "ignoring or breaking the global rules" and "spreading dangerous technology". He continued: "NATO's aim is a world free of nuclear weapons. And we are ready to take further steps to create the conditions for nuclear disarmament negotiations. But any meaningful disarmament must be balanced and verifiable".

The Nazis had over 1000 cubes of uranium during the mid-1940s and their experimentations with the first weapons of mass destruction... but most of them are all gone -- in fact, all but 14 remain.

Researchers are now trying to find the remaining Nazi uranium cubes, with Tim Koeth and Miriam Hiebert hunting them down. Hiebert, a historian and materials scientist, told Business Insider: "Marie Curie's granddaughter has one. She uses it as a doorstop".

As for the cubes themselves, researchers believe there are just 14 out of more than 1000 used during Nazi Germany's experiments with nuclear weapons. 600 of these Nazi uranium cubes were captured, and shipped over to the US back in the 40s -- but after they reached US shores, no one knows where they went.

NVIDIA has just announced a rather large game is coming to its game streaming service at launch, with the company announcing Ubisoft's Far Cry 6 and Riders Republic will be on GeForce NOW at launch.

Far Cry 6 will be released on October 7, and will be available to GeForce NOW subscribers at launch. There's also the new season of Rainbow Six Siege, which is enjoying a new free-to-play weekend. If you were fan of 1080 Snowboarding on the N64 then you will probably love Riders Republic, a new game that is all about outdoor sports and high-speed action -- coming to GFN later this year.

One of Starlink's satellites have dropped out of orbit, and it is currently hurtling towards the planet and has re-entered Earth's atmosphere. The UK Space Agency has said that there is a "low chance it may burn up over the UK very shortly".

The UK Space Agency tweeted: "We are monitoring its re-entry together with @DefenceHQ, and there is no expectation the re-entry will cause any damage. Due to the varying input data, natural forces and associated observation error, there are always high levels of uncertainty when performing re-entry predictions on any satellite".

"Today, a Starlink-1855 satellite re-entered the Earth's atmosphere. There is a chance it will re-enter over the UK, and you might be able to spot the satellite as it burns up. Starlink has a fantastic track record or orchestrating safe and reliable re-entries. We do not expect the return of the satellite to cause any damage. Still the UK Space Agency and the Ministry of Defence continually monitor and assess the re-entries of satellite and debris and any risk to British territories through our joined Space Surveillance and Tracking capabilities".

Anduril Industries has just secured a $5.2 million contract with the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) Strategic Command's Innovation Hub (jHub) and supply it with advanced, multi-domain, integrated force protection technology.

The military contract is part of TALOS, a program the MOD is pushing to force a defense-wide push into integrated command and control. Anduril will supply its technology for base defense, protecting personnel, and infrastructure from a "rapid evolving set of threats".

Oculus founder Palmer Luckey is behind Anduril Industries, with Anduril's technology providing alerrts to operators when threats are detected from ground intrusion or unmanned aerial systems. All of Anduril's technologies and products will be used under TALOS, including Sentry Towers, ground sensors, Ghost 4 Drones, and the Lattice AI operating system.

Two more PlayStation exclusives are coming to PC next year, showing that Sony is doubling-down on multiplatform adoption.

Sony is releasing an Uncharted Legacy of Thieves two-pack bundle on PC and PlayStation 5 sometime in 2022, including Uncharted Lost Legacy and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. The PS5 version is set to launch before the PC port in early 2022, and neither Sony nor Naughty Dog have detailed the PC optimizations (but we should expect additions like uncapped FPS/60FPS, high resolution textures, ultra-wide support, FOV sliders, and more).

This marks the third instance of a first-party PlayStation exclusive to drop on PC, first with Days Gone and then with Horizon Zero Dawn. Sony actually confirmed Uncharted's arrival on PC way back in May during a special investor's meeting.

Satellites have captured some images of an oil spill that has happened in the Gulf of Mexico caused by Hurricane Ida.

On August 29, Hurricane Ida reached land close to Port Fourchon, Louisiana, and caused destruction to almost everything that came in its path. The hurricane came with 150 mph winds, large amounts of rainfall that eventuated into widespread flooding and many storms. Now it has been discovered that Hurricane Ida has also caused an oil spill in the ocean, as divers have identified a ruptured valve 2 miles south of Port Fourchon.

Satellites have been used to capture the size of the spill, and officials are estimating that it at least stretches 10 miles. The oil spill has remained out at sea and hasn't affected the Louisana shoreline. Additionally, crews are already doing what they can to reduce the spill, and luckily the pipe that is ruptured is in relatively shallow water of about 34 feet. NASA has posted a new video as a part of its "We Asked a NASA Scientist" series where the space agency will pose a popular question to a NASA scientist in their respective field and post their answer. In the above video Dr. Lindsay Hays, a NASA astrobiologist, was asked if aliens exist, to which she says that "we have not yet discovered life on any other planet," adding "we haven't seen any scientifically supported evidence for any extraterrestrial life".

However, Dr. Lindsay also says that doesn't mean we will never find life. The astrobiologist goes on to say that almost everywhere we have looked on Earth, we have found tiny microbial life, the simplest of life forms, and that it's very possible that other planets or even moons could have these sample simple life forms if the environmental conditions make that possible. NASA is currently searching for past signs of microbial life on Mars with the Perseverance rover.

Nearly half a million gallons of water used in 60 seconds seems quite ridiculous, but what if it were possible that it was necessary?

During a rocket launch, NASA will use nearly half a million gallons of water for more reasons than just cooling down surfaces that are heated by the launch. As Interesting Engineering explains in the above video, NASA was posed with the problem of sound waves caused by the launch being initiated damaging the technology onboard.

As a relatively cost-effective solution, the space agency uses water as a medium for the sound wave vibrations to travel through, reducing the overall decibels of the launch. NASA's water system is capable of releasing 450,000 gallons of water in just 60 seconds, which is enough water to supply 1,000 homes for six days. The European Space Agency (ESA) has snapped some brand new images of an asteroid that is shaped like a "dog-bone".

A team of astronomers has used the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope to observe the asteroid and have published their findings in Astronomy & Astrophysics. The asteroid is officially named Kleopatra, and according to Franck Marchis, the lead author of the study, the asteroid is "truly a unique body in our Solar System."

These images taken by the Very Large Telescope are the most detailed images taken of Kleopatra to date, and the team of astronomers believes that Kleopatra's uniqueness will push the human understanding of the solar system. Using precise measurements, the team was able to create these 3D images, allowing for more research to be done on the object and the two moons that orbit it. Intel's next-gen Alder Lake CPU architecture and new 600-series chipset is right around the corner, with the flagship Core i9-12900K and flagship Z690 chipset getting some more details today.

A new diagram for the Intel Z690 chipset has been posted by PC Inquisitor, where we can see that the new Z690 chipset has 1 x 16 + 2 x 8 lanes of PCIe 5.0 that are attached directly to the CPU. The Z690 chipset itself will have support for up to 12 x PCIe 4.0 lanes and up to 16 x PCIe 3.0 lanes.

We will see next-gen Z690-based motherboards -- which will surely be very expensive -- supporting an x16 PCIe 5.0 graphics card as well as 4 x high-speed PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs that will be able to push upwards of 7GB/sec reads. Now imagine a PCIe 5.0 SSD that will hit 15GB/sec+ on those new x16 PCIe 5.0 ports. Ohhh boy, oh boy, oh BOY.

Windows 11 will have a myriad of improvements under the OS hood to make your PC faster than ever before, with new UI and system-wide animations that will make your OS smoother, faster, and more responsive.

Not only that, but inside of Windows 11 are optimizations that will improve memory usage, CPU usage, and more. In a new video, vice president of Enterprise Management of Microsoft -- Steve Dispensa -- explains that Windows 11 has an average of 32% on memory usage, and 37% on CPU usage.

Microsoft put considerable effort into Windows 11 and its hibernation and wake-up times, with an Intel 8th Gen Core CPU and up as well as near-instantaneous wake-up time. This will bring Microsoft to the same level as ARM-based always-on devices from the likes of Qualcomm with its Snapdragon-powered Windows devices.

NVIDIA is gearing up for a big GPU refresh release in the coming months, with rumors that the company will be launching their new GeForce RTX 30 SUPER series in January 2022.

The company could launch both mobile and desktop variants of its new GeForce RTX 30 SUPER graphics cards, and with multiple teases now of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti with 20GB of GDDR6X floating around -- it would be interesting to see if the RTX 3080 Ti 20GB gets repurposed (refreshed) into the RTX 3080 SUPER.

NVIDIA should also release a new flagship GeForce RTX 3090 SUPER which will be very interesting too, as we've actually been hearing more and more about the GeForce RTX 3090 SUPER. The latest on the RTX 3090 SUPER is that it would use the GA102-350-A1 GPU, the same 21Gbps GDDR6X memory, and have a large 450W TGP.

Spider-Man 2 is coming in 2023 as a PlayStation 5 exclusive and will star two of the most beloved characters in the series, Sony today announced.

Insomniac's new Spider-Man 2 sequel has some surprising cameos: Miles Morales is back, and the most nefarious and infamous Spider-Man villain of all-time makes an appearance. Venom will star as Spider-Man 2's big antagonist, presumably bringing a unique story arc centered around the extraterrestrial symbiote.

The devs plan to use Spider-Man 2 to push the PlayStation 5 to its limits and redefine what's possible on the console as they did with Miles Morales using ray-traced visuals, 4K gaming, ultra-fast loading, and new AI-powered modeling. A good portion of the original Spider-Man dev team will return for the sequel.

A new Wolverine game is in development at Insomniac Games, Sony today announced.

Insomniac is working on two big new projects: Spider-Man 2, and a new PS5-exclusive Wolverine game. The adaptation of Weapon X is currently early in development and Insomniac has been discussing a Wolverine-focused game for years.

Miles Morales leads Brian Horton and Cameron Christian are leading Wolverine's development direction but there's no release date or timeline currently planned.
