Intel's new NUC 12 Extreme has been a little more detailed thanks to a new photo from HXL leaked onto the internet, teasing that Intel is using a desktop version of its 12th Gen Core "Alder Lake" CPU inside.

Why is this notable? Well, we thought Intel would be using a mobile version of its CPU inside of the NUC 12 Extreme -- but no, it seems they'll be using a desktop version -- meaning it will be even more powerful this generation around. Intel's new NUC 12 Extreme has a desktop LGA 1700 socket, which means you can buy any Alder Lake CPU and use it in the PC.

This means that the Intel NUC 12 Extreme can have the flagship Intel Core i9-12900K/KF processor (with, without the integrated GPU) installed offering up to 8 cores, and 16 threads. Intel's mobile-focused Alder Lake-P processors will tap out at 14 threads, while the Intel NUC 12 Extreme will offer NVMe PCIe 4.0 and DDR4 memory support.

NASA has taken to its website to explain that within the first few days of 2022, skywatchers will be able to see the Quadrantid meteor shower.

According to NASA, the Quadrantid meteor shower is slated to be one of the best meteor showers of 2022 as it coincides with a new moon beginning on January 2nd, which means the few days before and after the new moon, the sky is at its darkest. NASA explains that individuals in the northern hemisphere should head outside, angle yourself northeast, and look up towards the constellation Bootes.

NASA adds that the meteors can appear anywhere in the sky, and that the best viewing time will be after midnight on January 2nd. Earth experiences a meteor shower when our planet passes through debris from an asteroid or comet. NASA explains that the Quadrantid meteor shower is believed to be debris from the asteroid 2003 EH1, which may be an extinct comet. Hideo Kojiima gives more cryptic teases of his new project and promises to merge different entertainment mediums together with the mysterious game.

Kojima has been talking up a new experimental project for a while now, and his latest remarks further underline what to expect. In a recent interview with Famitsu, the Metal Gear Solid creator affirmed the project would help blur the lines between mediums.

"A big title, and a title that's a new challenge. As the boundaries of entertainment disappear in the near future, I'd like to make this a year that we take a step forward into challenging different mediums and expressions," he said.

Steam kicks off 2022 with a new player record, showing that PC gaming is bigger than ever.

Two days into 2022 and Valve has already smashed previous player records on Steam. According to new data from Steam DB, Valve's bustling online marketplace had 27,942,036 peak concurrent users logged in at once. That's roughly 557,000 more users logged in now than in November 2021, the previous record month.

It's worth noting that only 8.2 million people were actually playing games in the last 24 hours, or roughly 30% of total concurrent users. Valve recently shared the top-selling Steam games of 2021 and heavy-hitters like Apex Legends, PUBG, Valheim, and first-party titles DOTA 2 and Counter-Strike dominated the list.

SEGA is doubling-down on PC gaming as one of its most popular franchises reaches nearly 3 million unit sales.

SEGA's Ryu Ga Gotoku series (known as Yakuza in the West) has sold 2.8 million units on PC, the company has announced in a December 2021 report. In a separate brief from November, SEGA confirmed the Yakuza franchise has sold 17 million units lifetime to date across consoles and PC; a quick bit of math shows that PC makes up roughly 16% of total series sales across all platforms.

Samsung's next-gen Exynos 2200 SoC will be unveiled on January 11, courtesy of an official tease of the announcement by Samsung.

The new Samsung Exynos 2200 SoC will have an AMD RDNA 2-based GPU inside and will power new Samsung-built smartphones and tablets of 2022 and beyond. We should expect large CPU and GPU improvements over previous Exynos designs, but we'll have to wait and see actual real-world performance numbers first.

We should see Samsung use its new Exynos 2200 SoC inside of its next-gen Galaxy S22 family of smartphones, while the US-based versions of the Galaxy S22 handsets will use Qualcomm's freshly-minted Snapdragon 8 Gen1 SoC. We don't have much longer to wait until the big reveal, with Samsung to detail its new RDNA 2-powered Exynos 22 on January 11, 2022.

NVIDIA has just announced its GPU Technology Conference 2022 with the event returning to an in-person affair, where NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang should unveil the company's next-gen GPU architecture.

We should expect NVIDIA to announce its next-gen Hopper GPU architecture, the company's first foray into MCM (multi-chip module) GPU designs. Hopper will be built for server HPC and AI markets and not for your gaming PC, which should be the Ada Lovelace GPU architecture and arrive with the GeForce RTX 40 series later this year.

We all know NVIDIA is launching its new flagship GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics card this week at CES 2022, but now EVGA is joining the fun with a tease of its flagship GeForce RTX 3090 Ti KINGPIN graphics card.

EVGA's new custom GeForce RTX 3090 Ti KINGPIN graphics card will reportedly require not one, but two 12-pin PCIe power connectors -- yeah, those PCIe 5.0 PSUs and power connectors -- with 12 normal pins and 4 data paths which are optional. We don't know what manufacturers are calling this yet, but it seems to be compatible with NVIDIA's existing 12-pin PCIe power connector on the RTX 30 series Founders Edition GPUs.

But get this... with dual 12-pin PCIe power connectors under its belt, EVGA's custom GeForce RTX 3090 Ti KINGPIN graphics card will have a theoretical maximum power consumption of up to 1275W. Yes, twelve hundred and seventy five watts. Compared to the EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 KINGPIN which has a 525W TDP, this is a gigantic upgrade of close to 750W with the new EVGA RTX 3090 Ti KINGPIN. Holy balls.

ASUS has just demonstrated a very interesting new device: a DDR5 to DDR4 converter, that allows people to buy a new Intel 12th Gen Core "Alder Lake" CPU and Z690 motherboard that requires DDR5 RAM, and use their existing DDR4 RAM.

Why? Well, DDR5 memory is next to impossible to find and even if you do find it, it's hella expensive. Now there's at least a solution on the way, which has been teased by what is thought to be an ASUS ROG staffer using an ASUS Z690-based motherboard with the new DDR5 to DDR4 memory converter card.

ASUS has reportedly been prototyping the DDR5 to DDR4 card, which would plug into the Z690 motherboard and then you'd plug your DDR4 RAM into it. Kind of like the Sega Genesis when you'd stack your Action Replay in with your game, and then into the console. There are some more technical things going on inside, as DDR5 handles power management per modules -- DDR4 relies on the motherboard for power management -- now it's done inside of the carrier card.

ASUS has just teased its interesting new ROG Flow Z13 gaming tablet ahead of CES 2022 this week, powered with AMD's upcoming codename "Rembrandt" APU and packs support for external NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs.

The new ASUS ROG Flow Z13 gaming tablet is an ultra-thin 13-inch gaming laptop that will pack one of AMD's new Ryzen 6000 series mobile CPUs, and will be the "world's most powerful gaming tablet" according to ASUS. The full reveal event happens on January 4 @ 11AM PST, where we'll get all the details on the new ROG Flow Z13.

But it should follow in the footsteps of its predecessor, the ASUS ROG Flow X13, which was powered by the AMD Ryzen 5000 series mobile CPUs at the time. The new AMD codename "Rembrandt" APU is launching this week at CES 2022, offering the latest Zen architecture, up to 8 cores and 16 threads at up to 5.0GHz, and made on TSMC's new 6nm process node.

More classic Rareware games are returning to Xbox, and GoldenEye could be the latest to come to modern platforms. A full list of GoldenEye 007 achievements was spotted on Exophase complete with high-res pictures of the achievement images themselves.

GoldenEye's retro rebirth is apparently a result of a recent business deal between Nintendo and Microsoft, which sees Rare titles like N64 Banjo Kazooie crossing over to the Nintendo Switch Online service. It's believed that Nintendo is also allowing GoldenEye to jump over to Xbox.

Physical retail editions of the new GTA trilogy remaster don't come with actual maps or manuals, Twitter user Vadim M. confirms.

Anyone looking forward to getting old-school maps with their disc copies of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition will be disappointed. The physical disc versions are like practically every game released in this era and don't come with any manuals, maps, etc. This is the first physical Grand Theft Auto game to ship without a map.

Instead you get a disc copy of the game running the older v1.02 patch. The game is currently on version 1.04 and counting. Sadly there's no reliving those old PS2 days with a map of Liberty City, the tropical Vice City, or the dangerous streets of San Andreas. The maps were actually pretty useful and served as iconic posters to hang up on the wall, and have become collector's items since the early 2000s.
