Russian lawmakers have accused Ukraine of using "mutant soldiers" on the battlefield that were reportedly created in a biolab.

The Daily Beast has reported that Russian lawmakers are accusing Ukraine of using "mutant soldiers" created in a US-operated biological laboratory, but according to a retired US general, the claims from the Kremlin have no basis and are whimsical. According to retired US General William Enyart, who spoke to NewsNation's Rush Hour last Tuesday, "I think those Russian legislators must have been watching too many old cartoon reruns. You remember the old cartoon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? My kids used to watch it."

Notably, the former US general went on to explain that Russia has been making "mutant soldier" claims since 2015 and that there is "no truth to this ancient rumor at all". Furthermore, Enyart believes that Russia is pushing out this story to derail attention from the nation's failing attempt at invading Ukraine and the myriad of logistical problems that are plaguing its invasion. Lastly, Enyart says that Russian soldiers are unable to perform even the "basic functions of modern military" and, as a result, are attempting to blame a "boogeyman and the US".

It was last month when Google engineer Blake Lemoine claimed that a Google AI chatbot had become sentient. Shortly after those claims, Lemonie was placed on leave.

Lemonie worked at Google as an engineer for the past seven years, and his role was at Google's Responsible AI project, where he had dialogue with Google's Language Model for Dialogue Applications, or LaMDA. The AI is designed to mimic human conversations, and according to claims from Lemonie, the AI showed not only a level of sentience, but was also questioning whether it contained a "soul".

The now ex-Google engineer went to the Washington Post and Wired with his claims and said, "I legitimately believe that LaMDA is a person". Following these claims, Google put Lemonie on paid administrative leave and flat out denied that LaMDA was in any way sentient. Now, Google has informed Engadget that the company believes Lemonie's claims are "unfounded" and that LaMDA has gone through 11 separate reviews that found no level of sentience.

Graphics chip and technology company NVIDIA has announced that they will be showcasing their latest innovations, as well as cutting-edge AI and CG in simulation, collaboration, and design at this the SIGGRAPH 2022 conference located this year in Vancouver, Canada. They have titled their weeklong event "Illuminating the Future of Graphics".

Jensen Huan, NVIDIA's CEO, as well as other special presenters will be giving attendees of the NVIDIA Special Address at SIGGRAPH 2022, a glimpse into the future of AI-infused virtual worlds. There are plans to cover the research and technology that power these worlds, and how they open new frontiers for artistic expression and creativity or perfectly replicate nature's systems.

NVIDIA will also be presenting it's latest academic collaborations in graphics research with 17 technical papers. These research papers span advancements in neural content creation tools, display and human perception, the mathematical foundations of computer graphics, and neural rendering. Intel kicked off its weeks-long Intel Xe-HPG Scavenger Hunt event, where gamers could win 100 Premium and 200 Performance Arc Alchemist desktop graphics cards bu finding hidden information that Intel was hiding across its social media pages.

Intel explained that the "Premium" graphics card for the Grand Prize winners is their new Intel Arc A770 graphics card with 16GB of memory, while the First Prize winners get the "Performance" card in the Intel Arc A750 graphics card with 8GB of memory.

Intel explained that it has "started the ramp toward the full desktop launch" of its Arc A-series GPUs, mentioning its "recent tech press interviews" with Ryan Shrout and Tom Peterson, as well as the "surprise reveal of the Intel Arc Gaming Truck" that is headed towards LANFest Colorado in September.

Samsung has just revealed its new, second-gen SmartSSD which is powered by an AMD Xilinx Versal FPGA that the company says will promise a 50% reduction in computational times.

Not only that, but the second-gen Samsung SmartSSD will have 70% lower power consumption, and a reduction in CPU utilization that could be 97% lower when compared to a regular SSD for frequently-accessed data. The big deal here is the new AMD-Xilinx deal that took place in February 2022, making a big splash into processing data on the SSD, instead of transferring information between multiple drives.

The new computational SSD has the bandwidth to make streams faster, lowers data latency since there are fewer (and unnecessary) packages travelling between the storage drive, and the processor. This means that the processor is free for other tasks, that are more important for your PC. The onboard Arm cores use small amounts of power, and offer low operating temperatures which are a great combo for use in a supercomputer or HPC system.

Elon Musk has come out denying the allegations that he slept with wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin, saying that the story is "total bs".

Musk tweeted that the story is "total bs. Sergey and I are friends and were at a party together last night! I've only seen Nicole twice in three years, both times with many other people around. Nothing romantic". In a follow up tweet, Musk added "haven't even had sex in ages (sigh)".

AMD's next-gen EPYC 9000 "Genoa" CPU family will be powered by the next-gen Zen 4 core architecture, with details arriving on the flagship EPYC 9664 CPU.

The next-gen AMD EPYC 9664 processor will have up to 96 cores and 192 threads of CPU power, 12-channel DDR5-5200 memory support, 128 PCIe 5.0 lanes per CPU, and up to 700W of TDP with its new LGA 6096 "SP5" socket. AMD will be using 12 CCDs in its 96-core, 192-thread beast CPU with each of the CCDs featuring 8 CPU cores based on the Zen 4 architecture.

As for the cache, the AMD EPYC 9664 "Genoa" CPU will have 32MB of L3 cache per CCD, which is also shared across all of its Zen 4 cores within the CCD. AMD has 384MB of L3 cache + 96MB of L2 cache which when combined, add up to a monster 480MB of pooled cache on the EPYC 9664 chip.

Game of Thrones is available right now in a 4K HDR box set, but that'll cost you $150-$240 (depending on whether you get it on discount) but winter is coming to HBO Max, folks.

The entire eight seasons of Game of Thrones will debut on HBO Max in beautiful 4K HDR in August, with support for both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos technologies. Game of Thrones debuting in August is a star-aligning marketing move by the company, as House of the Dragon premieres on August 21.

If you hadn't heard of House of the Dragon, it's marketed as Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon. But if you wanted to hit up Game of Thrones on HBO Max then you'll need the ad-free tier of HBO Max, which will cost you $14.99 per month or $149.99 per year. House of the Dragon will debut with all of the tech from the beginning: 4K + HDR10 + Dolby Vision + Dolby Atmos.

AMD is still a couple of months away from launching its new RDNA 3-based GPU architecture, with the Navi 31, Navi 32, and Navi 33 to fill out the new Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards.

The new AMD Navi 31 GPU is expected to debut with a chiplet design, with a GCD (Graphics Core/Compute Die) and MCD (Memory Complex/Compute Dies). You can see in the new Navi 3X renders from Wild_C on Twitter that the Navi 31 GPU is going to be a bigger design than the Navi 32 -- which is also a chiplet design -- while Navi 33 is a regular monolithic GPU design.

TSMC leads the world in semiconductor manufacturing, so much so that China has been licking its lips to engage in war -- destroying trillions in wealth, creating most likely a world war, the death of thousands if not millions -- just to take the company.

But now, news is breaking that China's largest chipmaker -- Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) -- has copied chip designs for 7nm manufacturing technology from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). The news is coming from Taiwanese press, stating that SMIC's 'new' 7nm process design has been ripped apart by TechInsights with some interesting... insights into SMIC's design process, or lack thereof, I guess.

TSMC is already making the most advanced silicon on the planet, with mass production of 3nm already underway inside of TSMC labs, the Taiwanese semiconductor Godzilla is claiming that SMIC is copying their 7nm designs.

Seagate teased nearly a year ago now back in September 2021 that it was developing its second-generation HAMR HDD that would "be probably around 30TB" but now that day is here.

Seagate has announced that it will be launching its second-generation HAMR HDDs with capacities of 30TB in mid-2023, but even more mammoth HAMR HDDs are coming: 40TB+ in 2024, and 50TB+ in 2025. Pretty crazy when we're dealing with single-digit M.2 NVMe SSDs.

The company has made it clear that it will be shipping the second-gen HAMR HDDs with 30TB+ capacities in 2023, with certain customers of Seagate in the data center market getting their drives first, while everyone else will have to wait. As for the HAMR technology: Seagate's HAMR tech adjusts HDD memory, affecting media, magnetic layer, reading and writing heads, controller, actuators, and several other components of a hard drive.

Just imagine... you've ordered yourself an expensive, new, super-fast flagship NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics card and it arrives in the mail... but there's no graphics card inside.

This is what happened to a Brazilian man who ordered himself a Palit GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GameRock graphics card, but instead found himself with sand instead. In a not-so-funny coincidence, AIB partners did reportedly tell NVIDIA to "pound sand" over Turing and Ampere stocks sitting in warehouses ahead of the Ada Lovelace GPU launch.

Brazilian gamer Mauricio Takeda ordered a Palit GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GameRock graphics card, opening it to find pots of sand. He did notice that the weight of the package was weird once he received it, asking his wife to record it... which is how we have these pictures. This story became a thing from a discussion during Conan O'Brien and his "Needs A Friend" podcast, who was interviewing a NASA engineer when the topic came to the "strict guidelines" on "alone time" in zero gravity on the International Space Station.

During the interview, O'Brien asked the NASA engineer if porn was sent up, or I guess streamed on the International Space Station. The NASA engineer, who is only identified as "Smythe" said: "No, none of that".

Sony is changing things up with announcing Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered swinging onto the PC, but now we have some more details on the technical side of things for PC gamers.

Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered will include ray tracing support, NVIDIA DLSS, NVIDIA DLAA, support for UltraWide monitors, and more. We have ray traced reflections on GPUs that support it, where on the PC we have something new: a higher-quality, ray-traced mode that has even more city detail than the PlayStation 5 version of the game.

There's also support for NVIDIA DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) as well as NVIDIA DLAA (Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing) that will help gamers enjoy more performance, or even higher image quality. Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered lets you choose that, as well as using UltraWide and Panoramic gaming monitors with 16:9 and 21:9 aspect ratio... better yet, there's also NVIDIA Surround multi-monitor support if you want to use 3 monitors. So very cool to see.

On paper, the Cowabunga Collection is already an incredibly good deal that packs in 13 retro Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games in one bundle, including beloved favorites like the Turtles in Time beat-em-up.

There's one feature that could completely revolutionize retro re-release collections, though. Digital Eclipse has gone above and beyond with the Cowabunga Collection's new Watch Mode. This basically lets you hand off control to an automated computer assistant based on a pro speed-runner to beat a specific portion of the game--which will come in handy in the devastatingly hard TMNT NES game.

Sony should attempt to acquire Hello Games as part of PlayStation's expanding live service strategy...if the developer wants to sell, of course.

No Man's Sky went from a controversial 2016 release to one of the best live service video games ever made. Hello Games has radically transformed No Man's Sky with a fusillade of free expansions, adding in tons of new features, content, and significant quality of life improvements. No Man's Sky has been upgraded and tweaked with 29 expansions and updates including a PS5/Xbox Series X/S re-release and a VR version.

On a lark, I fired up the original No Man's Sky on PS4 sans updates...and it's absolutely incredible how much the game has changed. Sony should be watching carefully and taking notes.

The United States Navy's USS Essex has been equipped with a brand-new ElemX printer made by Xerox.

The printer weighs 4,630 pounds (2,100 kilograms) and was lifted via crane onto the vessel while in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. It measures 9 feet (2.7 meters) wide and 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall, The printer itself resides within a large CONEX box, adding up to a total weight of around 15,000 pounds (6,803 kilograms), and measuring about 20 feet (6.1 meters) long. Unlike a conventional printer that prints ink, the ElemX prints from spools of aluminum wire.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially deemed the unprecedented spread of the monkeypox virus a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).

The rating is the highest level of emergency the WHO can assign. It was announced on Saturday, July 23rd, 2022, as cases have risen to almost 17,000 worldwide. The ongoing series of outbreaks beginning in May 2022 has seen the virus appear in 74 countries in total, with 68 countries not having previously reported monkeypox infections. Of the 16,836 cases reported at the time of writing, only 243 are from countries that have previously reported cases, according to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) tracker.

An expert committee could not collectively decide whether to consider the global monkeypox outbreak as a PHEIC, so the decision ultimately fell to the head of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The monkeypox virus is a poxvirus, similar to the smallpox virus, for which vaccines like Imvanex already exist. On July 22nd, the European Union announced it recommends approving the use of Imvanex to treat monkeypox.

A Reddit user has shared photos taken from a plane flying above the clouds over the Atlantic Ocean.

According to the post, the red glows visible in the photo were something the pilot had never seen, which prompted many theories to be suggested by other users. The red light is most likely a result of large lighting arrays used by fishing vessels to catch Pacific saury. However, without closer inspection, the cause can't be known for certain.

Such ships are equipped with hundreds of red lights around the ship's perimeter, with LED being the preferred option for its higher efficiency, lower weight, and the ability to target the light more effectively than other lighting solutions like high-intensity discharge (HID). However, the strong glow from high up past the clouds suggests HID could have been in use, explaining how much light escaped upwards.
