NASA has taken to its Sun & Space social media account to announce that the Sun has erupted eight solar flares and twenty-three solar flares.

NASA has posted to its Sun & Space Twitter account to announce a space weather roundup for the past week. According to the announcement, the Sun has released a total of eight solar flares and twenty-three coronal magnetic ejections over the course of the week. Above is a NASA video that showcases various active regions on the Sun that can be seen in the brighter areas of our star. Notably, there were no geomagnetic storms to report despite the Sun's increasing activity.

The space agency explains that at 2:30 in the video, you can see NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) make calibration maneuvers, which is an important process that only happens twice a year. The calibration maneuvers ensure the spacecraft's instruments are taking in the light from the Sun accurately, while also assessing how that light is being received by the spacecraft.

The United States trails behind European countries in electric vehicle adoption per capita, according to a Statista report. Although states deciding to ban the future sale of gas-powered vehicles will help spur increased EV growth over the next 15 years.

Norway has a sizable lead, with 81.0 electric vehicles per 1,000 residents, with No. 2 Iceland (36.8%), and No. 3 Sweden (20.6%) trailing far behind. The US trails further down the list, slotting in at No. 8 with just 5.2%.

Acer's new Predator BiFrost Intel Arc A770 OC graphics card is for sale in Taiwan, with a listing on Acer's official store in Taiwan having the card in stock for NT$12,900 which works out to a shave over $400 USD.

If you can't buy Intel's slick Arc A770 Limited Edition (which there were so few made) then you might want to try your chances for a custom AIB model, with the Acer Predator BiFrost Intel Arc A770 OC graphics card featuring factory overclocking, as well as 16GB of GDDR6 memory.

16GB of GDDR6 memory is important because remember Intel offers their new Arc A770 graphics card with either 16GB GDDR6 or 8GB of GDDR6, depending on the model. Honda has big plans for the midwest, as the Japanese company recently announced it was teaming up with LG to bring a joint EV battery facility to Ohio. The automaker also showed off the Prologue, Honda's first electric SUV expected for release in 2024.

Leadtek has just introduced its new custom GeForce RTX 4090 Winfast Hurricane graphics card, the first custom GeForce RTX graphics card since the introduction of the Leadtek GeForce RTX 4090 Winfast Hurricane graphics card in 2020.

You might not remember the brand Leadtek, but they're one of the oldest names in the graphics card business. I still remember the day I purchased the Leadtek GeForce Ti 4400... man, those were the days.

The new Leadtek GeForce RTX 4090 Winfast Hurricane graphics card, which is a new 3.5-slot beast that is thicker than its predecessor (obviously) and is 3cm longer than its predecessor. Leadtek uses a triple-fan cooling solution with an X-shaped shroud with 3 x 100mm fans keeping Ada nice and cool.

NVIDIA has officially "unlaunched" its GeForce RTX 4080 12GB graphics cards, but what about all of the AIB partners that had announced their custom GeForce RTX 4080 12GB cards... and started making retail packaging for them? Well, some of those costs will be recouped and covered by Uncle Jensen.

We can't just see these boxes have stickers slapped over them, replacing the "GeForce RTX 4080 12GB" to whatever NVIDIA calls it: GeForce RTX 4070 12GB or GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 12GB. It will be tacky, and not look good for the biggest GPU launch in NVIDIA's history. Nope. NVIDIA is working with AIB partners that had already made retail boxes for the now-unlaunched GeForce RTX 4080 12GB.

NVIDIA is reimbursing some AIB partners for the retail packaging on the GeForce RTX 4080 12GB, where the boxes will be collected, and destroyed. Disappointing. We don't know if NVIDIA is repaying the AIB partners for the losses they'll make on the retail packaging, or if it'll include everything (the people who actually have to destroy the packaging, which will take time).

I don't think NVIDIA has ever done this before, but the company has just announced that it is launching its recently announced GeForce RTX 4080 12GB graphics card.

NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang unveiled the new Ada Lovelace-powered GeForce RTX 4090, GeForce RTX 4080 16GB, and GeForce RTX 4080 12GB graphics cards during GTC 2022 last month and the "GeForce Beyond" event. But now, now that GeForce RTX 4080 12GB has been "unlaunched" says NVIDIA.

In a new post on their website, the company explains that the GeForce RTX 4080 12GB is a "fantastic graphics card" but it's "not named right". NVIDIA must have been (forcefully) listening to its fans, adding that "having two GPUs with the 4080 designation is confusing". None of their internal market research, hundreds of staff that were probably like "WTF, Jensen", could point them towards "this is a bad idea (launching the RTX 4080 12GB, which is really the RTX 4070/4070 Ti).

Virtually all high-end graphics cards made in the last couple of years, but especially the chunky GeForce RTX 3090, GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, and GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards are triple-slot and thicker. The new 51RISC GeForce RTX 4090 24GB Gamer graphic card is a proper 3-slot card, with the company not providing users with a GPU support bracket, the built-in spirit level is what you've got. Niche, but cool.

G4TV has been shut down for the second time, and this time it's gone for good.

A year ago, Comcast resurrected the early 2000's gaming network G4TV in the hopes of riding the billion-dollar wave of the gaming market. The landscape has significantly changed since G4 was popular, with the advent of YouTube and established websites with multi-million monthly views. The idea was to reach the same audience that made G4 popular way back when; this audience is older, and is now the median age for the bustling $198 billion video games market.

Sadly this didn't work. G4 didn't take off and simply didn't gain the traction needed to justify the spending. Comcast has officially shut down G4TV and fired all of its teams.

It's officially happening: Konami has confirmed the next Silent Hill game will be revealed next week on October 19 at 5PM EST.

Konami today announced that it will reveal the "latest updates for the Silent Hill series" next Wednesday, Predictably, the internet went into a meltdown over this news.

Fans have been waiting years for a new Silent Hill game, and rumor has it there are as many as three projects in the works including a Silent Hill 2 Remake from Bloober Team, a new game called The Short Message, and an episode game from Annapurna Interactive.

It seems that drivers in a vehicle with partial automation are becoming too comfortable and treating their cars like it's fully self-driving, according to a study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

There are only a few cars that offer partial autonomy, but there is a change in the driving habits of people behind the wheel in a car with Tesla Autopilot, Nissan/Infiniti ProPILOT, or Cadillac Super Cruise. Drivers can become easily distracted by texting, eating, or some other activity that raises safety risks.

It looks like proPILOT drivers were the least worrying, with 12% of drivers willing to treat their car as fully self-driving. However, 53% of Super Cruise users and 42 percent of Autopilot users treat their semi-autonomous vehicles as fully self-driving.

Overwatch 2 has amassed 25 million players in 10 days' time, Activision-Blizzard has confirmed, which cements the ongoing free-to-play game as a big success for the company.

Overwatch 2 is pretty successful insofar as player counts. The game has managed to attract 25 million users in little over a week, breaking records for the franchise. As Benji-Sales notes, the original Overwatch had 10 million players in 3 weeks' time...but that was a premium game with an actual price tag. Overwatch is of course free to play. It also helps that Overwatch 2 released on new-gen consoles too.

The free-to-play reach has been extremely beneficial when it comes to regional numbers, and cross-play integration has helped bring in new players and keep them playing across the world. "The game has proven to be a global phenomenon, already achieving a daily player base spread near-even across EMEA, Asia, and the Americas that's nearly triple the previous daily player peak from the original Overwatch."

Google Cloud will use its artificial intelligence-based voice assistant services for new Toyota and Lexus models, regardless of Internet connectivity. Anyone looking for a 2023 model from Toyota or Lexus can look forward to using the voice assistant from their infotainment system.

As part of the Toyota Audio Multimedia and Lexus Interface infotainment systems, Google and Toyota both hope they're able to keep drivers hands-free and focused on the road.

Even though an Internet connection isn't required, the Toyota Voice Assistant's machine learning delivers more accurate voice interactions when connected. However, the next-generation system will still provide reliable natural-speech functions when a driver interacts with it. The AI runs directly through the multimedia system processors in a vehicle's infotainment system.

Obsidian Entertainment wants to return to the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout. Will Bethesda let them?

The devs behind Fallout New Vegas, one of the most acclaimed games in the franchise, wants to make another Fallout project. There's just two things getting in the way: Time and getting Bethesda to agree.

In a recent interview with DuelShockers, Obsidian studio head Feargus Urquhart said that he would instantly agree to make a new Fallout game. "Of course, if we ever got the opportunity to make another Fallout game, we'd make it. There's not even a question of whether or not we would do it, it's just...will the opportunity arise?"

Rocksteady technical artist Lee Devonald has spoken out on the reports of Gotham Knights only hitting 30FPS on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X, a controversial perf target that has triggered backlash against WB Montreal.

A bit ago, WB Montreal confirmed that Gotham Knights, the big new open-city Batman beat-em-up, would be locked to just 30FPS on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. This kicked the hornet's nest and gamers wanted to know exactly why the game was running at such a low frame rate. WB Montreal offered a cursory explanation, saying that its environmental effects coupled with "untethered co-op" hindered higher FPS.

Now a dev from another one of WB's studios is jumping in. Rocksteady artist Lee Devonald has shared some insight on Twitter, saying that Xbox Series S is a "potato" and that it's "not much better than a last-gen" console. Apart from hardware limitations, Devonald gives valuable insight from a developer's standpoint on what it's like to make a game run at 60FPS, and how consumers and gamers should see these kinds of decisions.

Shortly after Russia began its invasion of Ukraine, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced that his company would provide Starlink satellite constellations to the country so Ukrainians could stay connected to the internet and maintain vital communication channels.

SpaceX provided the Starlink constellations back in February, and since then, SpaceX says it has been fronting the majority of the bill to keep connectivity maintained. However, a CNN report revealed that SpaceX sent a letter to the Pentagon saying that it was no longer in a position to further donate terminals to Ukraine or fund the existing terminals for an undetermined amount of time.

The letter sent to the Pentagon by SpaceX claims that it would cost SpaceX nearly $400 million over the next year to maintain Starlink at its current level. Following the exclusive report from CNN, Musk took to his personal Twitter account to echo much of the same points of view as outlined in SpaceX's letter to the Pentagon, but the SpaceX CEO gave in, saying that his private company will continue to support the Ukrainian government "for free".

Enel X Way and Sunrun have teamed up to bring smart Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations designed for EV owners to charge at home.

Level 2 chargers traditionally use 208-240v power sources and can deliver electrical current from a traditional household outlet. The grid-connected model also helps the local power grid because it's able to maximize off-peak and automated charging times.

The companies made sure the co-branded charger is compatible for use with all EV cars and trucks. Sunrun is the official charging partner for Ford, and looks to expand EV charging options for owners.

The recent Association of the United States Army (AUSA) conference featured a number of armed robots and similar technologies on display.

At the conference, one of the companies that garnered significant attention was German company Rheinmetall, which launched its hybrid and electric drivetrain vehicle, the Mission Master-CXT. The model is a mid-sized unmanned vehicle that can shuttle weapons - and autonomously identify targets and launch strikes.
