Huawei to launch Honor Note 9 with Infinity Display
Back in June, Huawei introduced the Honor 9 smartphone, and customers' feedback is mostly positive. It seems that the company wants to make another, improved version of this device.
The sources from China claim that Huawei is working on a phone named Honor Note 9. A photo of the alleged device has leaked showing a beautiful edge-to-edge display with a slim top and bottom bezels.
The phone doesn't appear to have a physical home button and dual rear camera setup. According to previous reports, the Honor Note 9 should feature Huawei's yet-to-be-announced Kirin 970 processor and come with 6GB of RAM, and at least 32GB of storage.

New iPhone 8 leaked renders allegedly show final design
Apple is expected to announce three new devices this year - iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus, and iPhone 8. And while we know that the first two will be upgrades to last year's phones, the expectations are pretty high when it comes to the iPhone 8. The iPhone 8 should debut certain features, and we are also expecting some design changes.
Thanks to information from sources in Apple's supply chain and with a little help of a case maker, we now have renders of the iPhone 8 which allegedly show the final design.

Note8 to have better optical zoom than iPhone 7?
The Galaxy Note8 launch is just a month away, and as the date approaches, we are getting a better picture of what to expect.
Last week, we learned that the Note8 would be powered by a Snapdragon 835 despite some rumors that it might feature Qualcomm's yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 836. However, it seems that Qualcomm will debut the Snapdragon 836 with the Google Pixel 2. We saw the same scenario last year when Qualcomm debuted the Snapdragon 821 with Google's Pixel.
The Note8 should also feature a dual camera, and unless the company launches the Galaxy C10 within the next month, the Note8 could be Samsung's first phone with a dual camera setup.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 explodes and catches fire
We all know the story about Samsung's faulty Note7 batteries, but the Korean company isn't the only one dealing with explosive devices. We recently learned that Apple is being sued by an insurance company for an alleged iPhone fire, and now, Xiaomi is facing the same problems.
A Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 device exploded and caught fire inside a shop in Bangalore, India. The phone wasn't connected to the charger when it exploded. You can check the video here.
The company said in a statement that they are investigating the incident and that the customer's safety is of utmost importance to them.

The new iPhone 8 might be all about AR
Artist renderings of the new iPhone 8 happen on a nearly weekly basis at this point. Some based on repeated rumors and others based on hopes and dreams. However, most of these renderings usually don't go beyond the physical design of the phone.
That is not the case with Gabor Balogh's latest mock-up of the rumored iPhone 8. He takes it one step further to also conceptualize what Apple Maps might look like with a touch of AR. In fact, we already know that in the iOS 11 beta there are some hidden ARKit Easter eggs which I believe are just scratching the surface of what could be possible.

Nanomaterial charges phones, electric cars in SECONDS
Even with the latest flagship smartphones in the world, it still takes over an hour to charge your phone on average... at least for now. Drexel researchers might be onto the next big thing, using nanomaterial-based electrodes called MXene, that will charge chemical batteries much, much quicker than today's technology.
Engadget reports that the "near-2D design combines an oxide-metal 'sandwich' with hydrogel to create a structure that's extremely conductive, but still lets ions move freely as the battery builds up a charge. In the lab's design, you can charge MXene electrodes within "tens of milliseconds" -- you could top up a phone in seconds or an electric car in minutes". Impressive, eh?
As always the big issue here is getting to production quality energy cells, something that will require a number of years before we get to that point. Factories would have to adapt to the new technology, learning the new electrodes over current methods. The future of charging our smartphones and electric cars could be a hell of a lot quicker, as this is the future that is quickly coming up the road.

Qualcomm's next-gen Snapdragon 845 teased
It looks like Qualcomm is planning to release their next-gen Snapdragon 845 processor sooner rather than later, with the new Snapdragon 845 listed in new patent documents.
The news is courtesy of the on-going legal battle between Apple and Qualcomm, with teh Snapdragon 845 showing up on Qualcomm's ITC filing that wants to ban iPhone sales in the US. Samsung's next-gen Galaxy S9 is said to be the first to rock the Snapdragon 845, and will be released in early 2018. LG is also touted to use Qualcomm's latest chip in their next-gen flagship due out in 2018.
As part of the documentation on why Qualcomm wants the iPhone sales to be banned in the US, the company listed patented chipsets - something that includes SDM845, or the Snapdragon 845.

ASUS recently launched the ZenFone 4 Max with a 5,000 mAh battery, but we are still waiting for four new ZenFone series smartphones. A recent report suggested that the company should unveil the devices on August 17th and while we still can't confirm this date, we can say that the launch date is definitely close because ASUS has just posted the first teaser photos of the ZenFone 4.
The company posted four photos on its official Facebook, and all four photos indicate that the ZenFone 4 will have a dual camera setup.

Samsung reportedly decides on the Galaxy S9 screen size
While we are waiting for Samsung to unveil the highly-anticipated Galaxy Note8 on August 23rd, it seems that the company is naturally already preparing for next year's flagships, presumably named the Galaxy S9 and S9+.
According to industry sources, the Korean giant has already placed display orders for the upcoming devices. The same sources state that the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will have the same screen sizes as this year's S-series phones, meaning 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch displays.
The phones should have rounded corners, making them identical to this year's Infinity Displays found on the Galaxy S8 duo.

Essential phone to be more than a month late
Although it was supposed to arrive by the end on June, Essential's first smartphone, the PH-1, is still nowhere to be found.
The phone was announced by Andy Rubin, the co-founder of Android, back in May and up until now, we didn't have any updates or reasons of the delay.
Today, twenty days after the expected launch date, Andy Rubin has sent out emails to users who pre-ordered the phone. In the email, Rubin says that they are now "going through certification and testing with multiple US and international carriers." Rubin also states that the device would be in user's hand in "a few weeks."

New Note8 leak shows awkwardly placed fingerprint sensor
Samsung revealed that they would launch the Galaxy Note8 in a month, on August 23rd. The Note8 is one of the most anticipated phones of this year, and therefore there are many rumors and leaks surrounding the device. Many people were eagerly awaiting the Note7 last year and had to either give theirs up or never get one due to the recall.
Samsung posted a promotional poster, so we know that despite some rumors, the Note8 will keep the symmetrical design. However, there's one question that still hasn't been answered - what's happening with the fingerprint sensor?
Although we have heard many ideas, it seems that the fingerprint sensor is staying in the awkward position on the back of the device next to the camera, same as the S8 and S8+.

Samsung to produce chips for the iPhone 9, LG batteries
While we are still waiting for this year's iPhone(s), there are already rumors floating around about next year's device allegedly named the iPhone 9.
We recently learned that Samsung would manufacture Apple's 7nm A12 chipset, which should power the iPhone 9. This is a huge accomplishment for Samsung since the company lost the deal with Apple back in 2013 to its Taiwanese rival TSMC.
According to Korea Economic Daily's report, Apple also reached an agreement regarding iPhone 9's batteries. The iPhone's L-shaped batteries should be manufactured by LG.

Facebook is working on a modular smartphone
In a patent published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Facebook describes a modular device that can be used as a phone.
The tech giant submitted a patent for a "modular electromechanical device" that can incorporate a speaker, microphone, touch display, GPS, and even function as a phone.
This isn't the first time we have heard about such an idea. Google already tried to do something similar with their ambitious Project Ara, but it didn't make any significant impact. Interestingly, many key members of Google's Project Ara team now work at Facebook's Building 8 group, the team responsible for this patent.
