What's also visible is that there's no fingerprint sensor on the front or the back of the device. Unfortunately, there's no clear image of the phone's sides so we can't know if the fingerprint scanner is embedded into the power button on the side or if Apple has decided to ditch the fingerprint sensor altogether and feature only facial recognition.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9: under-display fingerprint sensor

| Aug 7, 2017 3:35 AM CDT

Samsung is still ramping up to the announcement of their next-gen Galaxy Note 8 later this month, with our first tease of the Galaxy Note 9 that is destined for 2018.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9: under-display fingerprint sensor

According to a new report from KGI Securities, the new Galaxy Note 9 will feature an under-display fingerprint sensor. The upcoming Galaxy Note 8 will rock a fingerprint sensor on the back, something that the next-gen Galaxy S9 will include. Samsung was reportedly meant to use an under-the-display fingerprint sensor in the S8 and S9, but ran into technical difficulties of getting it done, hence the Note 9 reportedly the first with the under-display fingerprint sensor.

Another thing to consider is that Samsung isn't the only one having issues getting an under-display fingerprint sensor into their phones, with Apple rerpotedly set to include a virtual button on their new iPhone, as even they couldn't get an under-display fingerprint sensor in a 2017 smartphone. KGI reports that the "Galaxy S9 will have the new selling points of upgraded iris recognition and dual camera, Samsung has no need to risk adopting under-display optical fingerprint solution in a hurry".

Although Musk said that he's treating The Boring Company as a side project, the company is progressing, and Musk has revealed the first working car elevator which should lower the cars into underground tunnels.

We also heard a report from an industry source that Apple is planning to use OLED displays in all the new iPhone models launched in the second half of 2018, meaning that panel makers might not be able to meet the demand if Apple goes through with their plans.

However, Apple has another solution. The company has purchased chemical vapor deposition (CVD) machines from Korea-based Sunic System to build a 2.5G OLED panel line to develop related technology and products in Taiwan, according to a Korea-based ET News report.

Apple's move would grant them independence from Samsung which is currently supplying them with OLED displays. It would also match Apple's continued desire to supply themselves with components for the iPhone and not to be dependent on outside vendors.
