Nokia 6: the cheaper Nexus/Pixel for just $229
If you're feeling a bit nostalgic and don't have much to spend on a new smartphone, HMD Global has announced they're launching the Nokia 6 smartphone in the US in the next few days.
The new Nokia 6 will be available in two colors, and exclusive to Amazon for the time being, with two more colors and an extended range of places to buy the Nokia 6 in the coming weeks. The US version of the Nokia 6 is a lesser-specced handset than what is available in China, with less RAM and NAND flash storage. But I'm also sure you've been wondering who the hell HMD Global is, and why they're selling Nokia smartphones in the US.
HMD and FIH Mobile (which happens to be a subsidiary of Foxconn) have worked together on designing the Nokia 6 smartphone, along with Nokia itself providing some tips. For now, all Nokia smartphones run a stock version of Android 7.1 with all of the upgrades, and no bloat on top.

New temperature sensor uses just 113 picowatts of power
We might be seeing the likes of 7nm coming soon, while the latest and greatest graphics cards are made on the new 14nm and 16nm nodes with some seriously power efficient GPU technology from NVIDIA and its Pascal architecture at 14nm.
Now, we have researchers from UC San Diego developing a new temperature sensor that uses 10 billion times less power than 1W, at just 113 picowatts. Hui Wang is an author on the new study, telling Scientific Reports: "We're building systems that have such low power requirements that they could potentially run for years on just a tiny battery".
The team worked on reducing power in two areas, with the first being the power source, where they used something that other researchers in their field are trying to move away from. This is where transistors come into play, as they have a gate that stops the flow of electrons in a circuit, but transistors also keep getting thinner and thinner, introducing new problems. As transistors get smaller, the gate material becomes thinner, which is where "gate leakage" comes into play.

LG V30 won't feature a secondary display?
LG's V30 should be announced at this year's IFA in Berlin at the end of August. The phone is expected to be powered by Qualcomm's yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 836. The device should feature a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual rear camera setup, and IP68. This may mean that the V30 could be the end of a long LG heritage of removable batteries.
Now, a new report has revealed another interesting thing about the upcoming device. As you are probably well aware of, LG's V series features a secondary screen, at least it did in the past. According to the rumor, the V30 won't have a secondary screen.
The same rumor claims that the V30 will come with an OLED display, a first of any LG flagship smartphone. This could also mean Google daydream VR support could be a feature as well.

New leak confirms Samsung's Galaxy Note 8 design
Samsung should announce the Galaxy Note8 this summer, and Evan Blass recently revealed some specs about the upcoming phone.
According to him, the Note8 will feature a 6.3-inch AMOLED display with 18:5:9 aspect ratio. It will come with an S Pen stylus and a dual rear camera setup. Blass reports that the phone won't be powered by Qualcomm's yet to be announced Snapdragon 836, but will instead feature Snapdragon 835, the same processor as the Galaxy S8. However, the device will come with 6GB of RAM. The Note8 is also expected to have a 3,300 mAh battery, which is less than what the Galaxy S8+ has, which seems odd.
There are some questions that are yet to be answered about the phone, the biggest one being - what is happening with the fingerprint sensor? When Samsung revealed the Galaxy S8 and S8+, one of the biggest downsides of the phone was the position of the fingerprint sensor, placed right next to the camera on the back of the phone. We know that Samsung has planned to embed the fingerprint sensor under the glass on the front of the device, but due to certain problems, they had to give up on the idea.

Vivo first with fingerprint sensor under mobile display
Mobile World Congress 2017 is underway in Shanghai, China - with Vivo teasing their new fingerprint sensor technology that has been embedded under the display. An impressive trick that the world thought Apple would be first to market with.
The new 'Under Display Fingerprint Scanning Solution' is based on Qualcomm's technology, and was shown off on a prototype iteration of Vivo's Xplay 6 smartphone. Vivo told Engadget: "In Vivo's R&D plan, fingerprint scanning will not be carried out by an independent button or region. It will be realised more subtly under the screen, behind the metal shell, or even in the frame. Based on ultrasonic technology, the fingerprint recognition technology can be further expanded to realize user interaction, such as gesture recognition, security verification and other fields, which will greatly enhance user experience".
The technology does allow for the fingerprint sensor to be placed all over the display, but has been limited to the lower half of the display for the prototype. Secondly, the fingerprint sensor being available all over the display also drives up the cost significantly, according to Vivo.
