$60,000 worth of GPUs power Unreal Engine ray tracing demo

| Mar 22, 2018 3:37 AM CDT

Epic Games had one of the best demonstrations of real-time ray tracing technology at this years Game Developers Conference, with a peek into their "Reflections" ray tracing demonstration.

$60,000 worth of GPUs power Unreal Engine ray tracing demo

The new real-time ray tracing demonstration runs inside of Epic Games' own Unreal Engine, and was powered by NVIDIA's incredible DGX station which packs four Tesla V100s and costs a huge $60,000. Remember that RTX, NVIDIA's real-time ray tracing technology, is exclusive to the Volta GPU architecture until NVIDIA releases their next-gen GPU, which should be unveiled next week at GTC 2018.

The Reflections demo uses next-gen experimental lighting and rendering techniques in Unreal Engine, with Epic Games working closely with NVIDIA and ILMxLAB. It looks absolutely out of this world, but with $60,000 worth of hardware behind it, you'd kind of expect it.

Possible new Fornite maps photographed at GDC 2018

| Mar 21, 2018 11:35 PM CDT

At GDC 2018, Peter Ellis, Art Director Epic Games, took to his panel to display off some Fortnite art pieces that could suggest that the battle royale shooter will be receiving some new maps in the future.

Possible new Fornite maps photographed at GDC 2018

From the leaked images that can be found below, we can see quite a diverse set of landscapes. It appears that Ellis or more specifically Epic Games wants Fortnite players to jump into a completely different map experience, the images range from desert maps, marshes and large building establishments.

Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that these images are 100% coming to Fortnite as maps but from a development point of view wouldn't it be slightly silly to waste these amazing assets? If these aren't maps then what are they and how are they going to be implemented into the Fortnite experience? I suppose time will only tell, we will update you with any further information regarding the possibility of new maps.

4A Games announced the news over Twitter that they were excited to announce their partnership with NVIDIA to use RTX real-time raytracing technology in Metro Exodus. This set AMD Radeon gamers into a flurry, with people asking if it would work with AMD Radeon graphics cards.

We should expect a video teaser of Metro Exodus running with NVIDIA's RTX technology on top, and I can't wait. Bring it on.

Fortnite made $126m on PC last month, PUBG made $103m

| Mar 21, 2018 9:31 PM CDT

Battlegrounds took most of the headlines last year, making hundreds of millions of dollars and setting new records every other week for concurrent players on Steam but it seems Fortnite has been playing catch up, in a big way.

Fortnite made $126m on PC last month, PUBG made $103m

According to the latest data from research company SuperData, Epic Games' shooter is bigger than PUBG when it comes to viewers and revenue. Last month, Fortnite made a huge $126 million on the PC while Battlegrounds was only capable of drawing in $103 million.

Fortnite is a free-to-play game, but its Save the World mode starts at $40. The Battle Royale side of Fortnite is free which provides it with a larger player base, while Epic makes money from adds on using its virtual currency, of which you can buy cosmetic items and seasonal battle passes.

COD: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered ships WITHOUT multiplayer?!

| Mar 21, 2018 8:33 PM CDT

The mere tease of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered sent gamers into a tail spin, but now there's new news on the game, and that Activision will only include the single player portion of Modern Warfare 2... and not the multiplayer side.

COD: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered ships WITHOUT multiplayer?!

What the hell, Activision? That's the most stupid thing I've ever heard, and you want to charge $20 for the pleasure of an improved single player experience in something where the multiplayer was what 90% of gamers purchased it for? In this game, puff, puff, pass is what they should be doing - not puff, puff, puff. No one will be able to pull off 420NOSCOPES, now.

Eurogamer is reporting that Modern Warfare 2 Remastered will indeed ship without multiplayer, and rock just the single player campaign. The game is expected to launch on April 20 for the Xbox One and PS4.

Xbox One X update for DOOM teased, will we get 4K or 60FPS?!

| Mar 21, 2018 7:32 PM CDT

We all know id Software is working on a new update for DOOM that will unleash some of the power under the hood of the Xbox One X, but now Microsoft's updated Xbox One X enhanced list says the DOOM update is "coming soon".

Xbox One X update for DOOM teased, will we get 4K or 60FPS?!

If we remember back to November 2017, Microsoft updated their list of Xbox One X enhanced games with Fallout 4, and then a few weeks later the Xbox One X enhancement update was pushed out for the game. We don't know if DOOM will be running at 4K 30FPS or 1080p 60FPS on higher graphical detail with the Xbox One X enhancement update, but I would prefer 60FPS over 4K, that's for sure.

It would be nice to see the option of 4K 30FPS or 1080p 60FPS, instead of forced 4K 30FPS for a game like DOOM... but we'll have to wait and see.

ARK: Survival Evolved tramples over to Nintendo Switch

| Mar 21, 2018 6:31 PM CDT

Having already launched on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and soon mobile phones, Studio Wildcard has one more destination in mind for its dino sim: the Nintendo Switch.

ARK: Survival Evolved tramples over to Nintendo Switch

The devs behind ARK: Survival Evolved have announced the game is coming to Nintendo's fresh handheld-console hybrid complete with all content and features of the original game. That means the huge open-world island with a huge smattering of prehistoric dinos to tame and ride and multiplayer-based exploration and crafting--not to mention survival in the brutal tech-infused world. There's no word on whether or not ARK's Switch port will feature cross-play with other platforms, but it's interesting that more online-oriented games are shifting over ahead of the console's official premium online subscription.

The biggest benefit of ARK (and any game) coming to the Switch is that players will be able to take their progress on-the-go, albeit in an offline singleplayer-only capacity (unless you want to destroy your cellular network bill).

Dragon Ball Legends mobile game revealed

| Mar 21, 2018 5:22 PM CDT

Right before the last episode of Dragon Ball Super, Bandai Namco announces a new card-based Dragon Ball mobile game.

Dragon Ball Legends mobile game revealed

Keen on tapping the huge mobile games market with one of its most valuable properties, Bandai Namco today announced Dragon Ball Legends, a new "one finger card action battle" game that's poised to rake in tons of revenue with gacha-style purchases. The newly minted trailer shows a fantastic-looking thrillride of a game, but it remains to be seen if these are QTE or cutscene-style sequences, especially given gamers will actually play with a single finger.

Dragon Ball Legends (not to be confused with the old-school Dragon Ball Z Legends from the PS1 era) will sport a brand new original character designed by Akira Toriyama and feature global player-versus-player action and touts that gamers will be able to challenge anyone at any time. "Get ready for an exhilarating super-HD action-fighting game with simple and intuitive controls! Experience epic battles right on your smartphone and worldwide PvP," reads an official description.

Division and Hitman devs form new studio Sharkmob

| Mar 21, 2018 4:33 PM CDT

Five veteran developers who worked on Hitman and Massive Entertainment's The Division form a new indie studio aimed at breathing life into an older IP.

Division and Hitman devs form new studio Sharkmob

The team at the newly formed Sharkmob is made up of some key alums with decades of experience between them. The move represents a common trend in the games industry where developers at high profile studios will break away from the harsh crunch of the AAA industry to work on smaller projects, and interestingly enough, Sharkmob's first project is set in a "cult classic" IP.

Official details on the studio's first game are light, but it should have live services and have online-based multiplayer--two things which The Division and the most recent Hitman game both incorporate in some way.

THQ Nordic to revive old-school Nickelodeon games

| Mar 21, 2018 11:22 AM CDT

Did you grow up with Ren and Stimpy or Rocko's Modern Life games as a kid? Or maybe Avatar: The Last Airbender titles? Those games and more are about to make a comeback.

THQ Nordic to revive old-school Nickelodeon games

Today THQ Nordic and Nickelodeon announced that a number of old-school gaming classics from the SNES era and beyond will be resurrected, likely in original or possibly remastered form.

"THQ Nordic and Nickelodeon today announced the global revival of several game titles connected with Nickelodeon properties," reads a press release announcement. Games based in series like Rocko's Modern Life, Ren and Stimpy, Rugrats, Avatar, Danny Phantom, and Invader Zim were specifically mentioned, although official details are still light. It's highly likely the games will be re-released in a nostalgic bundle for play on current-gen systems, and I'm hoping the theoretical pack comes to the Nintendo Switch.

Iron Harvest smashes through Kickstarter goal, $1m is close

Recently we saw that KING Art Games, the developers behind Iron Harvest begun a Kickstarter campaign, within 24 hours of their campaign going live they have broken through $500,000.

Iron Harvest smashes through Kickstarter goal, $1m is close

The original goal was only $450,000 but that was breached only within just a few days of the Kickstarter going live, currently as i'm typing this the upcoming RTS is pushing close to $1m, sitting at precisely $917,315.

It should be noted that the game still has 24 days to go which could suggest that the immense popularlity could surpass the entire stretch goal chart that the developers have laid out for the game. If you are interested in viewing the Kickstarter for Iron Harvest, the link can be found here.

Brigitte Lindholm shield bashes into Overwatch, now live

| Mar 21, 2018 1:00 AM CDT

Hero 27 was first believed to be jetpack cat, but before the release of the new hero, confirmation surfaced that it was in-fact Torbjorns daughter Brigitte Lindholm.

Brigitte Lindholm shield bashes into Overwatch, now live

On the Overwatch YouTube channel, a 'introduction' video has been released by Blizzard showing off how Brigitte is going to fit into the current roster.

It appears that Brigitte perhaps could be struggling with some father figure issues, this conclusion was derived from the following reasons: Has a father with an unhealthy obsession with machines and it is implied that he never paid attention to her, has Reinhardt as a role model since she was a little girl, mentions Reinhardt around 3 times in a minute and not Torbjorn once, in-game counter to Torbjorn and loves cats. From these reasons my guess would be that Reinhardt is Brigittes actual father figure even though he is of no relation.

CD Projekt RED has opened a new studio in Wroclaw, Poland to help develop the cyclopean Cyberpunk 2077.

CD Projekt RED opens new studio to work on Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is the biggest game CD Projekt RED has ever done--and from the devs that made The Witcher 3 that's saying a lot. After all it will have next-gen level AI and huge sprawling, living, breathing cities based in a sci-fi universe. In order to ensure the game lives up to fans' expectations as well as the studio's penchant for near-perfect quality, the games-maker has enlisted another Poland-based studio that will flesh the game out alongside the Warsaw and Cracow branches.

The new branch is made from 18 devs previously known as Strange New Things.

The shadow of Vivendi's looming takeover has finally been dispelled, and today marks the end in a long saga that might've irreparably changed one of the biggest games-makers in the industry.

Vivendi has cancelled its plans for a potential takeover of French games-maker Ubisoft and will relinquish control of its share capital back to the video games publisher, Ubisoft today announced.
