Halo: Master Chief Collection has UNCAPPED frame rate on PC

Brian, aka 'ske7ch', the community director at Halo developer 343 Industries took to Reddit to field some questions, with one of his answers being very important to PC gamers: "Current plan is to support 'uncapped FPS' in each title. But, as we move deeper into development on each title, we'll have to determine what's feasible within each game".

Uncapped FPS, excellent.

If you haven't read up about Control, it's from the developers behind Max Payne, Alan Wake and Quantum Break and is a sandbox-style, gameplay-driven experience that is very different to what you'd expect. There's supernatural abilities like telekineses, environmental destruction (from the use of the environment itself), modifiable loadouts, and more.

Remedy is powering Control with its in-house Northlight Engine, with the new trailer concentrating around RTX features including Ray Traced Indirect Diffuse, Ray Traced Indirect Specular and Ray Traced Contact Shadows.

Nightdive teases 20-minute video of System Shock remake

| Mar 19, 2019 9:53 PM CDT

Nightdive Studios has just revelaed a huge 20-minute gameplay video on their official YouTube channel, which gives us a detailed look at the gorgeous System Shock remake.

Nightdive teases 20-minute video of System Shock remake

The 20-minute clip is from pre-alpha gameplay from the Medical Bay level of the game, right at the beginning of your adventures in System Shock and fight against Shodan. I'm a huge fan of the series having pumped countless hours into System Shock and System Shock 2 when they were first out, and with the recent tease of System Shock 3 there has been no better time to be a fan of the series.

The team at Nightdive has done an incredible job from the look of this video, as it seems like we can expect something special with the System Shock remake. Please, please don't disappoint me, Nightdive.

Legendary game developer Warren Spector has unveiled our first look at pre-alpha footage of System Shock 3, which is currently under development by OtherSide Entertainment. Check it out:

Warren Spector debuts System Shock 3 pre-alpha preview

The new pre-alpha teaser trailer was debuted by Spector during the Unity panel at GDC 2019, saying that he and his team used the Unity technology to create a world in System Shock 3 that is full of "robots, mutants and the dead". You will be fighting the mega-powerful AI 'Shodan' just as you did in the previous System Shock games.

It looks pretty damn good in its current form, which we know is about half way done now.

Unity Engine shines bright in 'The Heretic' tech demo at GDC

| Mar 19, 2019 8:30 PM CDT

Unity showed off an amazing tech demo in the form of a new short film called The Heretic at GDC 2019, centered around a strange man that has some form of mechanical substance that can be controlled, and is helping him navigate the environment. Check it out:

Unity Engine shines bright in 'The Heretic' tech demo at GDC

Veselin Efremov, creative director at Unity's demo team explains The Heretic: "I'm fascinated by technology and its impact on us as humans; our psychology, sense of self-identification, and our deeply ingrained sense of spirituality. I thought it would be fun to explore these existential and philosophical themes in the guise of a simpler adventure story".

The concept of The Heretic tech demo started with the goal of creating a virtual person that looked as real as possible. The results are pretty damn good, and I think we're getting very close to it with this new release from Unity. Silvia Rasheva, the producer on the demo team for The Heretic, said: "Most of the technology is available today. The project is based on Unity 2019.1, which releases soon, and some of the improvements we've made are slated for Unity 2019.2".

DOOM Eternal runs at 4K 60FPS on Google Stadia in the cloud

| Mar 19, 2019 7:45 PM CDT

Google announced its new Stadia platform today, a cloud-based gaming platform that promises big things: delivering up to 4K 60FPS HDR gaming over devices that aren't even built for gaming, blasted over Chromecast.

DOOM Eternal runs at 4K 60FPS on Google Stadia in the cloud

The announcement saw id Software executive producer Marty Stratton talking about Google Stadia pumping out DOOM Eternal at 4K 60FPS with HDR support, all on a single AMD-powered Stadia GPU. DOOM Eternal will be playable on all Stadia-capable devices, which will include smartphones, tablets, TVs, desktops and laptops. It'll also work with Google's new Stadia game controller, too.

Stratton said it only took the developers at id Software a few weeks to get DOOM Eternal working on Stadia, which is impressive to hear. Stratton explained: "If you're going to prove to the world that you can stream games from the cloud, what better proof than Doom? [...] It didn't take us more than a few weeks to get Doom Eternal looking and playing great on Stadia. [...] We couldn't be happier to be bringing Doom Eternal to Stadia, and are thrilled to announce the game will be capable of running at true 4K resolution, with HDR, at an unrelenting 60fps".

Google's console-killer Stadia wages war on the industry

| Mar 19, 2019 3:00 PM CDT

Rather than take on Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo with its own dedicated video games hardware, Google is trying to upend the market with a potent service.

Google's console-killer Stadia wages war on the industry

If it can deliver on its promises, Google's new Stadia game streaming service is a dangerous threat to console gaming. The ambitious platform has the potential to put the current console gaming landscape through some tremendous growing pains, and force its competitors to adapt or die (luckily Microsoft has planned for this scenario, but Sony and Nintendo haven't). With the convenience of high-def AAA gaming on any device and an open cross-platform community ecosystem, Stadia will break down the walled garden approach that consoles typically thrive off of.

With Stadia, Google aims to bring a new era of accessibility to gaming. Subscribers won't have to buy extra hardware or download anything to play games at up to 4K 60FPS (but a high-end internet connection is required). Ultra-powerful server networks wirelessly beam games from the cloud to devices. One example sees users simply turning on their TV, clicking on a YouTube link, and jumping right into a game. Start game on your desktop and want to continue on the go? Easy. Stadia brings all your saves, progress, and content to any device so you can pick right back up where you left off.

Google's Stadia changes gaming forever

| Mar 19, 2019 1:17 PM CDT

Today Google completely changed the face of gaming forever by announcing Stadia, a new ambitious game streaming platform.

Google's Stadia changes gaming forever

Stadia is Google's new streaming platform, but it's much more than just another service: it's a new evolution that brings an era of accessibility, convenience, and ease-of-use to gaming. Gone are the days of needing high-end consoles and PCs, Google says: using Google's powerful datacenter network, Stadia will stream high-fidelity gaming up to 4K 60FPS to devices like laptops, desktops, tablets, TVs via Chromecast, and mobile phones via cloud technology.

Google promises Stadia will give instant access to its games, all within Chrome or YouTube. Users can launch games directly from YouTube trailers, bringing a new native connectivity to gaming. Trailers on YouTube can have a play now button, which brings the player right into the game in as "quick as five seconds with no download," Google's Phil Harrison said.

Atari VCS console upgraded to Ryzen APU

The Atari VCS will now be powered by an AMD Ryzen APU with two Zen CPU cores and Vega graphics, the company today announced. This is a nice jump from the Atari VCS' previous Bristol Ridge A10 CPU and Radeon R7 graphics, and the new 14nm Ryzen APU will offer power reduction, cooler temperatures, and greater gaming performance. Exact specs weren't revealed, however.

SEGA's survey dictates 'the next steps' for many SEGA titles

| Mar 19, 2019 5:00 AM CDT

SEGA is gathering some feedback from its community through a brand new survey that will help determine "the next steps" for some of the companies most popular titles.

SEGA's survey dictates 'the next steps' for many SEGA titles

The survey consists of many practical questions that SEGA will be taking into account to determine which franchise should have the most time thrown into for future development. An example of the one of the questions is; "Which games do you want to see more new content for?". SEGA then proceeds to give selectable options for franchises such as; Sonic the Hedgehog, Yakuza, Super Monkey Ball, Bayonetta, Virtua Fighter, Total War and many more.

Follow-up questions that are included within the survey regard which titles fans would want to downloadable content made for, and which franchise could do with a remaster or a sequel. Other questions include what format (downloadable or physical) do gamers usually purchase their games in, and how often collectors editions are bought. SEGA will be taking the data from this survey on-board and it will certainly influence what the Japanese developer will be spending their time on in the future. If you are interested in giving some answers to SEGA, you can give some answers to SEGA here.

Google's game service lets you piggyback off streamers saves

| Mar 19, 2019 12:03 AM CDT

Google's new game streaming platform could change the world of gaming forever with one feature.

Google's game service lets you piggyback off streamers saves

Google plans to reveal its new gaming platform at GCD 2019 tomorrow, but sources have revealed some new info ahead of the event. Key sources tell Kotaku's Jason Schreier that Google's service, which is centered around its cloud-powered Project Stream subscription, may let viewers interact with their favorite live streamers in a way that's quite revolutionary.

The service could essentially let streamers share their save files and in-game progress with viewers, letting fans pick up right where influencers leave off or jump right into the segment that the streamer is playing in real-time. This feature would effectively let viewers play along with streamers on their own consoles, laptops, desktops or phones, and could even match them up with influencers in online multiplayer games.

Valve boss Gabe Newell talks about Halo coming to the PC

| Mar 18, 2019 8:27 PM CDT

The news of Halo: Master Chief Collection coming to the PC and especially on Steam, blew most gamers away. It lit the internet on fire with excitement that Microsoft of all companies, with its own digital distribution platform (which sucks) was going to make its flagship franchise available on Steam.

Valve boss Gabe Newell talks about Halo coming to the PC

Steam, which is owned by Valve, and Valve which is owned by Gabe Newell, was an interesting choice to say the least. Newell has come out and said a few things about Halo: MCC coming to the PC when a fan e-mailed him about it all and asked whether getting the game onto Steam was an easy task.

Newell replied, saying: "The credit for this goes to Phil Spencer and his team at Microsoft. They made it happen, so, yes, it was simple for us".

Master Chief Collection on PC won't support Play Anywhere

| Mar 18, 2019 7:28 PM CDT

The full Master Chief Collection is coming to PC and Steam (including Reach), but Xbox One owners will have to double-dip to play it on the platform.

Master Chief Collection on PC won't support Play Anywhere

343 Industries confirms that The Master Chief Collection won't be part of Microsoft's Play Anywhere, a program that allows one game to be shared across both Windows 10 PCs and Xbox One consoles. The initiative is one of the building blocks of Microsoft's unique cross-platform Xbox-as-a-service foundation. Without support, this means existing MCC owners on Xbox One will have to re-buy the whole anthology--or individual slices of it--to play games like Halo 3 and Reach on PC.

Studio head Bonnie Ross says The Master Chief Collection was made before Xbox Play Anywhere existed, so that's the reason why it's not supported. "One of the questions we've gotten is 'will MCC PC support Xbox Play Anywhere?' While MCC shipped before the XPA Play Anywhere, we are exploring ways to make sure that we show our appreciation and recognition for the support we've had from the amazing fans on MCC and we'll have more to announce as we get closer to launch."

Master Chief Collection PC beta tests announced

| Mar 18, 2019 6:14 PM CDT

The Master Chief Collection's impending PC release is a massive undertaking, and Microsoft plans to hold tons of internal beta tests for the six-game Halo anthology.

Master Chief Collection PC beta tests announced

At the recent Halo Championships event, 343 Industries recently announced Halo Insider program, a new initiative for testing out new Halo games. The program offers fans across Xbox One and PC the chance to try out new games like Halo: Infinite and the hugely anticipated PC version of Master Chief Collection in their fledgling states, and shape them over time with valuable feedback. Users can even test out the Steam version of the Master Chief Collection.

"Halo Insiders who choose to opt in to console or PC flighting will be considered for early access play sessions with in-development Halo games," the announcement reads. "Every improvement to Halo: The Master Chief Collection over the past year was the direct result of Insiders participating in flights and sharing feedback to the development team. Each public flight has specific goals, meaning not all Insiders will be selected for every flight."

This Millennium Falcon SNES, NES console is epic

| Mar 18, 2019 4:16 PM CDT

Star Wars is awesome, and retro gaming is awesome...but what happens when you combine the two together? This custom-made Millennium Falcon Nintendo console, of course.

This Millennium Falcon SNES, NES console is epic

Star Wars and Nintendo megafan Chris Scott has quite the talent for crafting consoles out of spaceships. Scott revealed his latest creation, a combo SNES and NES wrapped in a snazzy Millennium Falcon shell, on the Nintendo Over 30's Club Facebook page, which obviously led to massive acclaim.

The two-in-one Corellian YT-1300 light freighter console can run both SNES and NES games, and even lights up in the back for hyperspace travel ambient effects. In today's lacking landscape of Star Wars games, it's great to reminiscence to the days of yore when microtransactions didn't rule gaming...and when Disney didn't make bewildering decisions with the franchise. Here we get a two-in-one retro throwback and I'd love to see more creations like these.
