In the search for two convicted killers able to escape from prison three weeks ago, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has publicly declined assistance from the Air National Guard 174th Attack Wing. The ANG offered its MQ-9 Reaper drones, which are conducting training missions over Northern New York, to aid law enforcement as they search for Richard Matt and David Sweat.

If Gov. Cuomo wanted to use the drones, his office would need to file an official request with the New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs. The drones, however, have not been deemed a necessity over state police helicopters.

"The only advantage the MQ-9 would have over a state police helicopter is the loiter time," said Eric Durr, spokesman for the NY DMNA, in a media statement. "And the determination was made that it was not a necessary asset."

Warner Bros. Games has temporarily suspended sales of Batman: Arkham Knight for PC gamers, as there were just too many performance issues. To help get things fast-tracked, it looks like NVIDIA is going to help the game studio identify what's going wrong.

"We are working with WB Games and the development teams to address the performance issues of the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight," NVIDIA confirmed. "We have made our QA and engineering resources available will provide updates when they are available."

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. offered a public apology related to performance issues: "We want to apologize to those of you who are experiencing performance issues with Batman: Arkham Knight on PC. We take these issues very seriously and have therefore decided to suspend future game sales of the PC version while we work to address these issues to satisfy our quality standards."

Nintendo has announced that Splatoon, a colorful squid-based game for the Wii U game console, has topped 1 million copies sold worldwide. The multiplayer version of the game features four players competing as the squids try to spray ink in the digital world.

There were 476,000 physical and digital units sold in the Americas, at least 368,000 units sold in Japan, and more than 230,000 units sold in Europe - along with 20,000 units moved in Australia and New Zealand.

"Ever since Splatoon launched on May 29 in the United States, we've seen thousands of people go online to have fun in this colorful, chaotic competition," said Reggie Fils-Aime, company president of America at Nintendo, in a public statement. Nintendo was quick to embrace eSports before it evolved into the massive business it is now, with championships and tournaments in the early 90s.

Although the company's focus shifted towards console and portable gaming units, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime wants to show more support for eSports in the future. In the first four days the Nintendo World Championships was available online, it was viewed more than 5 million times - and Fils-Aime expects even more views.

"We saw success last year with the Smash Bros. Invitational, and Smash Bros. has always been a game in the eSports community," said Fils-Aime, in a statement published by Fortune. "What we're really gratified to see is that the community has now embraced Super Smash Bros. for Wii U because it has the speed and customization they like. We're also seeing them embrace Mario Kart 8, as well as Splatoon, in a competitive environment. We've always been close to the eSports space and will continue to be."

Eugene Kaspersky is the founder of the Kaspersky Lab cybersecurity software company, and believes hackers will have plenty of opportunities when it comes to targeting connected Things.

Scientists in China were able to train mice in less than one week to be able to sniff out explosives, narcotics, and other items. The mice, trained by researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences Kunming Institute of Zoology, said they were able to accurately identify targets 98 percent of the time.

Researchers trained the mice by withholding water resources, and then put a custom sensor in the cage that released water droplets after it was touched. After being moved to a box that offered two different smells, water was given as a reward when they pressed the sensor. It took five days for the mice to learn they would receive a water reward every time they detected the appropriate smell.

It's much cheaper to train and store mice over dogs, and could see widespread use in the future, after additional testing is completed.
