New The Outer Worlds info revealed

Fallout creators Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky share new details about Obsidian's new RPG, The Outer Worlds.

In a sea of online-driven live games, Obsidian's singleplayer-only RPG The Outer Worlds is a breath of fresh air. The game, which combines FPS action with sci-fi humor and deeper RPG sentiments, will channel key elements from original Fallout cRPGs without actually being an isometric point-and-click adventure. Back in 2017, sources told TweakTown that The Outer Worlds (then a mysterious IP) would be Obsidian's own unique answer to the Fallout series.

Details have been light since the game's TGA2018 reveal but now Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky reveal new tidbits in a GameInformer interview. Take-Two Interactive says its Private Division label, who's publishing The Outer Worlds, will showcase new content and reveal new updates later in 2019.

Final Fantasy XIV director teases 'straightforward fantasy'

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Feb 7, 2019 8:44 PM CST

Square Enix might be working on the Final Fantasy VII remake but that doesn't mean the developer is only working on that game, as we know that Final Fantasy XVI is coming in the near future but what will it arrive as?

Final Fantasy XIV director teases 'straightforward fantasy'

According to Naoki Yoshida, the director of Final Fantasy XIV, we could see something different. Yoshida said at the recent Final Fantasy XIV Paris Fan Festival: "First, if you're asking whether the Final Fantasy series will get another MMO soon, I think the chances are unlikely so long as Final Fantasy XIV is doing well. On that note, personally speaking, I'd like to see a Final Fantasy that is straightforward fantasy, one that doesn't have much machinery, and with no mecha in it. After all, we're having trouble with the Garlean Empire being too powerful. Ah, okay, that was a bad joke".

What do you think we'll see Final Fantasy XVI arrive as?

Disney happy with EA's Star Wars games

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Feb 7, 2019 5:29 PM CST

Following the cancellation of two major Star Wars games--Visceral's ambitious Project Ragtag and, more recently, EA Vancouver's open-world Project Orca--, gamers demanded Disney yank the exclusive ten-year Star Wars license from EA. But Disney says their relationship with the publisher is healthy, and licensing opportunities like these will continue.

Disney happy with EA's Star Wars games

In its Q1'19 earnings report, Disney CEO Bob Iger says the company has no plans to resurrect studios like LucasArts to make its own games. The only way to play games based on IPs like Star Wars will be through licensing deals with publishers like EA.

"We're obviously mindful of the size of that business. But over the years, as you know, we've tried our hand in self-publishing. We've bought companies. We've sold companies. We've bought developers. We've closed developers," Iger said in Disney's Q1 earnings call. "And we found over the years that we haven't been particularly good at the self-publishing side, but we've been great at the licensing side, which obviously doesn't require that much allocation of capital. And since we're allocating capital in other directions, even though we certainly have the ability to allocate more capital, we've just decided that the best place for us to be in that space is licensing and not publishing."

Apex Legends sees titanic growth with 10 million players

Apex Legends is a roaring success that shows no signs of slowing down and EA is very, very happy.

Apex Legends sees titanic growth with 10 million players

It's not often that free-to-play shooter gains millions of players out of the gate. Respawn's new 60-player battle royale shooter has done just that, and EA confirms Apex Legends just passed 10 million players in just three days time. Just two days ago Apex Legends broke 1 million players, so powerful word-of-mouth and advertising campaigns helped spike playercount.

The BR juggernaut is also retaining players and passed 1 million concurrent users across all platforms. EA has to be very happy about this success, especially since the more people playing service games raises the chance for recurring monetization (Apex Legends is monetized with optional cosmetics and a Battle Pass system).

Anthem's post launch content detailed

BioWare reveals the first three seasons of post-release content for its big new online-only game Anthem.

Anthem's post launch content detailed

Any service game lives or dies by how well it engages players, and the best way to keep everyone playing is with new content. BioWare and EA have a strong post-release roadmap for their big new mech shooter Anthem devised for this particular purpose. The content is separated into three different Acts, which seem to be mini-expansions with lots of extras, that should stretch throughout 2019. All of these content drops are part of a campaign called Elder Content and will be free for all users. These post-launch additions funded by optional in-game cosmetic microtransactions.

Act 1: Echoes of Reality will kick off in March, and includes a whopping array of content like a level cap raise, a new stronghold (kind of like strikes from Destiny), addition of guilds and persistent online leaderboards to track your progress, fresh loot and gear drops, new missions that expand the story, and Anthem's most exciting addition of all: sky-breaking cataclysmic storms that alter the game world and summon huge bosses.

Disney will continue to make R-rated movies such as Deadpool

Jak Connor | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Feb 7, 2019 3:00 AM CST

Many fans of Marvel, Fox and Disney have had their eyebrows raised to whether we are going to see any more R-rated movies coming out of Disney's movie conveyor belt. Recent news has suggested that Disney has no problems with future R-rated movies.

Disney will continue to make R-rated movies such as Deadpool

In a recent earnings call with Disney's chief, Bob Iger, questions were posed to their chairman regarding the ratings for future Disney movies and if we will be seeing new movies within the same R-rated calibre as Deadpool. Iger replied with "We do believe there is room for the Fox properties to exist without significant Disney influence over the nature of the content, meaning that we see that there is certainly popularity amongst Marvel fans for the R-rated Deadpool films, as a for instance. We're going to continue in that business, and there might be room for more of that."

Iger further explains the relationship between Marvel, Fox and Disney. He says that when a future movie is decided upon and the ratings are set that the companies will be "very carefully branding them and making sure that we're not in any way confusing the consumer with product that would be sort of either Disney product or the more traditional Marvel product." At the moment there is no known R-rated Disney produced movies in the pipeline, but with this now acceptance of a strong market for these types of films we will most likely see some in the near future.

Jak Connor | Gaming | Feb 7, 2019 1:00 AM CST

NetherRealm Studios, the developers behind Mortal Kombat 11 have come out and shot down fans' petition to bring Scooby-Doo's 'Shaggy' to Mortal Kombat 11.

Mortal Kombat 11 won't add Shaggy, despite his 350k votes

On the latest Kombat Kast video, Community Manager, Tyler Lansdown addressed the rumor that was floating around the Mortal Kombat community. Fans took to a petition to show their support for the one and only Norville Rogers, or more famously known as 'Shaggy'. Shaggy is from the classic cartoon show and movies 'Scooby-Doo' and it seems fans were more than excited for the possibility of the character being added to Mortal Kombat 11.

The petition which is still live at the time of writing this accumulated over 350,000 votes for the character to be added to the upcoming game. Despite fans support for the addition, Lansdown shot down the idea immediately saying; "Shaggy will not be in the game at all, ever. Sorry. Dead meme. No Shaggy in Mortal Kombat. That is your official first de-confirmation." It is a real shame to see that Shaggy isn't going to be coming to Mortal Kombat 11, but I can certainly see why.
