AMD to drop RX 470 price to $169 to battle GTX 1050 Ti
Exclusive: AMD is preparing for a big fight against NVIDIA's purported GeForce GTX 1050 Ti which is expected to be unveiled and released soon, by dropping the price of their mid-range champion graphics card, the Radeon RX 470.
AMD launched the Radeon RX 470 at around $179, but will be dropping the price of the RX 470 by $10, with a fresh new price of $169, according to my industry sources. NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 1050 Ti won't match the speed of the Polaris-based Radeon RX 470, which will be 30% faster - and fully VR-ready (with more performance on the Oculus Rift, thanks to the latest updates unveiled from Oculus during their developer conference, Oculus Connect 3 last week).
NVIDIA is expected to price the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti at around $149, but it won't match the performance of AMD's Radeon RX 470 - and that's going to be a huge win for AMD in the mid-range market where 1080p monitors are dominant. 1080p 60FPS gaming at $159 with VR-ready goodness, and cheaper FreeSync monitors for AMD Radeon owners is a great thing for the 80% of the market AMD is targeting with Polaris.

Star Citizen's is becoming the new Half-Life 3 in scope
While we might be disappointed with Star Citizen's single player module 'Squadron 42' being delayed sometime into the future, Cloud Imperium Games has teased that it wasn't just a delay because they weren't ready - but they said that Squadron 42 has "grown exponentially in ambition and scope since first pitched in 2012". Remember, Star Citizen's creator Chris Roberts said to us exclusively that he "doesn't care about consoles"... swoon.
The news is coming directly from CitizenCon, and from the man himself - Chris Roberts. During the presentation, CIG provided a massive list of features that Squadron 42 has, and it's beyond impressive. We have the next level of AI in games, as well as an "A-list cast to match any event movie", and so much more. During CitizenCon, Chris Roberts explained about the delay behind Squadron 42, after saying he wanted to do the game right after it had raised over $127 million.
Roberts explained: "We want to do it right. It's really important to do it right. What we're enabled to do by you guys is to do it right. Because if we were in the typical situation with a publisher, they would say, 'Well, no, you've got to make the Christmas (release) window; you've got to get it out. You can do some patches and the DLC and don't worry about the people who won't think it's quite as polished and it's got a bunch of bugs. As much as we wanted to have Squadron 42 for this year, it's not going to be this year. Because from the polish we need to do, it still needs a bit more time".

The Note7 fiasco could cost Samsung up to $17 billion
While it was predicted that the first recall of the Note7 devices could cost Samsung up to a billion dollars, the predictions for the second withdrawal of this device from the market are much worse. Analysts say the amount could climb to as much as $17 billion dollars, according to Reuters.
In early September, Samsung announced a global recall of 2.5 million Note7 devices due to faulty batteries that cause the phone to ignite, and on Tuesday the crisis took even worse proportions.
Samsung has instructed users to return all the Note7 devices, including replacement ones, and global operators to stop selling the Note7.

After Tesla and LaFerrari, Concept One beats Porsche 918
After the demonstration of power against the Tesla P90D and LaFerrari, Mate Rimac's Concept One, an all-electric hypercar, sparked the appetite of enthusiasts and the motoring press for more.
While the LaFerrari is an extremely impressive car, many called for a race against the Porsche 918 which is the most hybridized and only four-wheel driven member of the so-called Holy Trinity. It is also considered the fastest accelerating production car ever made.
The first to challenge the Concept One against the 918 was Alejandro Salomondrin on the Milan Raceway in Michigan. The Porsche 918 is a car that regularly dominates against McLaren P1 and LaFerrari, the other two members of the Holy Trinity.

Comcast pays $2.3m to FCC for customer mischarges
Cable and internet giant Comcast has agreed to pay $2.3 million to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to settle an investigation that accused it of mischarging customers for services and equipment they never requested.
The FCC began the investigation nearly two years ago after noticing a potentially consistent pattern of mischarges.
In addition to the fine, Comcast is required to implement a five-year compliance plan that will ensure it follows the law to the letter by training employees better, offering customers the ability to block changes to their account without consent, designing a program that deals with disputes efficiently, and more.

Overwatch 'Halloween Terror' event goes live
First it was the Summer Games event coinciding with the Rio Olympics, complete with cool, exclusive skins and Lucioball (a Rocket League clone), and now it's the Halloween Terror event.
Overwatch's latest features arguably the game's best skins yet, including zombie Hanzo, a Doctor Frankenstein-style Junkrat (aptly named Junkenstein), a witch Mercy, and lots more, all unlockable through playtime or by purchasing loot boxes (Jack-o-lanterns) for a limited time. Additionally, it features a Brawl that's more than just a pile of select heroes: this time it's you defending the castle versus a horde of zombie robot things as commandeered by Junkenstein himself.

Leading American and Australian mobile operators have stopped the sale of replacement Galaxy Note7 devices on Monday, while airlines reiterated that they prohibit passengers the use of these devices, after last week's evacuation of a Southwest Airlines flight when a Galaxy Note7 blew up.

NASA's first flight: Space exploration had a rough start
In its 58 years of existence, NASA can boast with many achievements. They sent the first people to the Moon, rovers on Mars and many probes and spacecraft to explore the universe. Just this year, NASA found strong evidence of water plumes on Europa, Jupiter's moon, they sent OSIRIS-REx probe to study asteroid 101955 Bennu, we got a better perspective of Jupiter and Mars, they discovered K2-33b, a very young super-Neptune exoplanet, thanks to Kepler who also discovered 100 Earth-sized planets and NASA's Hubble Space Telescope had shattered the cosmic distance record by measuring the farthest galaxy ever seen in the universe. And this is just scratching the surface of NASA's this year's discoveries and accomplishments.
For decades, NASA is changing the way we see the universe. Their findings contributed to a better understanding of our planet and everything that surrounds it.
It all began back in 1958, just 11 days after NASA has been officially established. On this day, October 11th, 1958, NASA had launched its first spacecraft - Pioneer 1.

Oculus disables support for Galaxy Note7
Oculus said in an official statement confirming they are removing support for all Note7 devices on the Gear VR. The Note7 won't work with GearVR "until further notice."
The statement comes after news about replacement Galaxy Note7 phones that have caught fire. Samsung's problems started shortly after the launch of the Note7, and although they reacted quickly and issued a global recall of the phones, their replacement phones appear to have the same battery issues.
Samsung and Oculus collaborated on the Gear VR, but it was Oculus' decision to disable support for the Galaxy Note7. Oculus, a Facebook-owned company, issued a statement on their official website saying:

League of Legends pro gamer suspended, fined after abuse
League of Legends pro gamer Hankil "Road" Yoon has been suspended from playing the game, and fined $2000 after racist remarks were made towards another player during practice.
The news was announced just before pro team I May's group stage match, and as Mashable reports, it's not the first time players from the team have been punished for unsportsmanlike conduct. Yoon was actually suspended after an incident that took place on September 19, where he said racist remarks to another player on a Korean server.
Yoon has been flagged for verbal abuse bbefore, where last October he said racist remarks towards a fellow teammate. Leaked game chats have also surfaced, with Yoon reportedly telling Echo Fox's Henrik "Froggen" Hansen to "go die" during a match. Yoon took to Facebook saying that his not-so-great English was just a dig, and that he didn't mean for Hansen to literally go and kill himself - but Yoon meant Hansen had been dying too much in the game, and told him to "go die" in that context instead.

Samsung's new ArtPC Pulse is Mac Pro-like desktop PC
Samsung might be going through tumultuous times with the halting of sales on its explosive Galaxy Note 7 smartphone, but their PC division has just teased the new ArtPC Pulse, a new "cylindrical desktop PC" available on Amazon for pre-order, reports PCWorld.
The new ArtPC Pulse is 10.7 inches tall, with Samsung designing it with a full metal body and circular lighting - and it looks beyond slick. Amazon's listing teases removable expandable modules, with an optional 1TB HDD available separately.

GeForce GTX 1050 Ti might be a massive overclocker
It looks like NVIDIA could be preparing quite the cheap graphics card monster in the upcoming GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, which according to the new leaks, could be an overclocking pro.
NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce GTX 1050 Ti will reportedly feature 768 CUDA cores, 48 TMUs, and 32ROPs with the GP107 GPU at 1318/1392MHz on the base/boost clocks, respectively. The GTX 1050 Ti should rock 4GB of GDDR5 on a 128-bit memory bus, which will push 112GB/sec memory bandwidth - all for a price of around $149.
There will be custom models available of the GTX 1050 Ti that will feature dual-slot cooling and a 6-pin PCIe power connector, with a 75W TDP. This means AIB partners can customize their cards to not use a PCIe power connector, or ramp the card up for overclocking and provide a 6-pin PCIe power connector for a total of 150W available to the card. This is where we'll see the 1354/1468MHz base/boost clock speeds on custom cards.

Mafia III Deluxe Edition physical PC launch is a mess
Mafia III Deluxe Edition physical copies on the PC have been shipping from Amazon and Best Buy without their physical manuals, which have the activation codes for the game - leaving Mafia III owners in the dark. Mafia III has only just been updated with a frame rate unlock option, yet still requires an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 to hit 60FPS at 1080p.
The physical version of Mafia III is delivered on six DVDs, and is meant to ship with a manual and activation code - but sorry, Deluxe Edition owners. Check out these comments on Amazon:
Some gamers are receiving refunds of their Mafia III Deluxe Edition copies from Amazon directly, while others are being instructed to fully return the game first before the refund will be offered. Best Buy customers are saying that they're being advised to take an exchange, or go to 2K directly about it.

Battlefield 1 includes built-in video creation tools
Can you believe we're days away from our first official taste of Battlefield 1, with EA Access members to BF1 starting on October 13 - before it launches on October 18 for the Early Enlister Deluxe Edition owners, and the full release on October 21.
One of the standout features of Battlefield 1 will be the new and improved Spectator Mode, which will launch "soon" after the launch of BF1, and it'll let you record your best moments, play them back, and edit them, however you want to upload them to the internet, and taunt your friends and foes on Facebook, YouTube, and other sharing sites.
Battlefield 1 gamers can join matches in Spectator Mode, and then choose how they want to watch the match - with cameras available on specific players or vehicles, while the camera moves with the character or vehicle in perfect framing and angles. The camera can be tweaked, with free mode letting you switch between pre-prepared shots. VG247 notes that you can change camera settings like speed, sensitivity, field of view and depth of field, which ushers in awesomely styled film-like effects, with filters also ready to be used.

BBC's 4K doco 'Planet Earth II' gets first trailer
It was a decade ago that the BBC released the astounding David Attenborough narrated documentary series 'Planet Earth', which quickly went on to become the best selling documentary series on Blu-ray. Later this year the network is set to unveil the long awaited sequel 'Planet Earth II' - and this time it'll be in beautiful 4K.
While the BBC's first look trailer for the series is only presented in YouTube's overly compressed 1080p, the images including a swimming sloth and ferocious lions confirm that this series photography is set to be as stunning as the first. The six part series is set to start airing soon, and would look to be an excellent candidate for the 4K UltraHD Blu-ray format - I can't wait.

Shadow Warrior 2 is 'not downgraded' on the PC
With countless PC games getting downgraded because of their console counterparts not looking so good, and game developers not wanting to make the PC version stand out, we're getting more and more downgraded games. But not Shadow Warrior 2, coming from developer Flying Wild Hog.
Flying Wild Hog representative 'KriS' explained on the Steam forums about Shadow Warrior 2 not featuring downgraded graphics on the PC, but instead the team has added new graphical effects into the game since its showings at PAX East 2016 and Gamescom 2016. KriS said: "It's not downgraded. Actually, we added tons of new GFX features and content. For example, we have added volumetric fog and light shafts (from Pax East 2016), we added real-time reflections (from Quacon/Gamescom 2016), enabled real-time shadows for a lot of lights (from Quacon/Gamescom 2016)...".
Shadow Warrior 2 won't be a performance hog on the PC either, with KriS adding that a GeForce GTX 660 can hit around 40FPS on High settings. DRM was also discussed, with KriS stating that the studio doesn't like piracy, it didn't want to spend the money on DRM, while simultaneously making the game worse for legitimate customers.

Prey's latest trailer teases CRYENGINE-powered horror
I still remember the tease of Prey from the Duke Nukem 3D days, where the developers touted that you'd be able to shoot a glass window on a spaceship, and have your enemies sucked out of it - Alien style, but oh well - Prey morphed into something else that looks pretty damn good.
The new CRYENGINE-powered reboot of Prey from Arkane Studios is here, showcasing the female main character, Morgan Yu. Prey will be released sometime in 2017 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. Arkane Studios describes Prey as: "Whether you're using mysterious alien powers to blast your way through your enemies... or transforming into a coffee cup to casually roll through a tough situation, Prey is all about empowering you to tackle every situation in almost any manner you choose".
They continue: "This philosophy is central to everything at Arkane Studios, and is a core part of Arkane's reimagining of Prey. But this doesn't just apply to how you play. It also extends to who you are. In Prey, players will not only define themselves through their actions, but they can also choose their gender. While this choice won't change the story or how you interact with the world - because Morgan Yu is Morgan Yu, and he or she will be defined by the choices you make - it's yet another way that Arkane is saying yes to the player".
