'Cuphead' gets delayed into 2017 on Xbox One and PC

Emma Tucker | Gaming | Oct 13, 2016 4:10 AM CDT

1930s animation Cuphead has been delayed until mid-2017, with Xbox One and PC gamers needing to wait even longer for the game, After being revealed at Microsoft's E3 2015 showcase.

Developer MDHR had originally scheduled the game to launch during 2016, though recent delays have proven otherwise. The studio decided that more time was needed in order to make it a better product. On the official Studio MDHR website, the developers released the following statement to audiences explaining the need for a later release date: "Hey everyone, we wanted to finish our game 80 years after 1936 but it will now be 81".

They added: "Throughout this year we discussed reducing the scope to make a 2016 release, but we made the difficult decision to delay the launch in order to ship with our vision intact. We are happy to announce that Cuphead will be coming to Xbox One, Windows 10 and Steam in Mid-2017".

Anthony Garreffa | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Oct 13, 2016 1:00 AM CDT

I'm a fan of The Walking Dead, don't get me wrong - but an 88-episode marathon? AMC needs to team with Red Bull and maybe the guys behind Limitless for this, with the 88-hour marathon kicking off on October 16 at 7AM with the entire first season being shown, as well as the first half of season two.

It'll be finished off with a two-hour retrospective of the series on Sunday night, with the marathon continuing each night at 6PM for the rest of the week. Season 6's finale will air just before the S7 premiere on Sunday, October 23 at 9/8c. Throughout its six seasons, there have been 83 episodes of The Walking Dead, with some episodes running over the usual one-hour runtime.

AMC is kicking off its annual FearFest with the 88-hour marathon of The Walking Dead, where the network will air horror films like Carrie, Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, The Amityville Horror, The Exorcist, Alien, and Chucky as well as their respective sequels, prequels, spinoffs and/or reboots, reports Slashfilm.

Star Citizen looks beyond amazing in latest screenshots

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Oct 12, 2016 11:38 PM CDT

Star Citizen is shaping up to be one of the biggest games ever made, and it's going to be a shining beacon of change for the PC gaming landscape. I have a larger article on Squadron 42 and how developer Cloud Imperium Games have delayed it 'indefinitely', as the scope of the game has grown bigger than CIG thought - and they want to do it right.

CIG showed off some gameplay footage from the latest build of Squadron 42 and Star Citizen, powered by Crytek's beautiful CRYENGINE, and now we have some screenshots to share with you. Check them out:

If you're an Origin Access subscriber, you can get your grubby hands-on Battlefield 1 with its Play First trial, right now.

Battlefield 1 can be played for 10 hours as a trial before its Early Access on October 18, and its full release on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One on October 21. The new Play First trial of BF1 weighs 40GB on the PC, with the installation requiring 47GB of HDD space. I'm downloading it right now, so expect some gameplay footage, impressions, and more from TweakTown very soon.

HTC teams with HP on $1499 for VR gaming PC bundle

Anthony Garreffa | Extended Reality (XR) | Oct 12, 2016 9:49 PM CDT

It was only last week during the Oculus Connect 3 conference that we were teased with a $499 gaming PC that would handle VR, thanks to changes Oculus are making to the PC requirements of the Rift.

HTC has teamed with HP on a new VR gaming PC bundle, something that will include a PC good enough to power Vive games, and the HTC Vive itself. The HP Envy desktop rocks an Intel Core i5-6400, 8GB of RAM, and an AMD Radeon RX 480 graphics card - and when you take into consideration the $799 cost of the HTC Vive, the HP Envy gaming PC is costing just $900 on its own.

For the $900, you're also getting a copy of Windows 10 Home, as well as a DVD drive, keyboard, and mouse. There are two bonus VR games thrown in, with The Lab from Valve, and theBlu:Encounter. The VR bundle doesn't include a monitor, so you'll need a monitor or TV to get it setup and going.

iPhone 7 32GB has 8x slower storage than 128GB model

Anthony Garreffa | Mobile Devices | Oct 12, 2016 8:19 PM CDT

Samsung is dealing with the Galaxy Note 7 issues, leading the South Korean electronics giant to halt production of its 5.5-inch phablet, and now Apple is going through some of its own issues.

Apple's latest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are reportedly experiencing storage-related issues, with the smaller 32GB models radically slower than their 128GB counterparts. The new iPhone 7 Plus 32GB is capable of writing at ~4MB/sec, while the larger 128GB model is capable of flying at ~30MB/sec, for comparisons sake - the iPhone 6S Plus 64GB pushes ~20MB/sec.

When it comes to read speeds, the iPhone 7 Plus 32GB model pushes ~7MB/sec, while the 128GB model is capable of ~9MB/sec and the older 6S Plus 64GB model is pushing around ~6MB/sec. Basemark's Pass Mark benchmark was used, transferring a 3.3GB file which took 52 seconds on the iPhone 7 Plus 32GB, the iPhone 7 128GB does it in a super-quick 17 seconds, and the older iPhone 6S Plus 64GB in 60 seconds.

Disney sued for $2m over Ford 'Star Wars' set injury

Ben Gourlay | Celebrities & Entertainment | Oct 12, 2016 7:38 PM CDT

The on-set injury which saw 'Star Wars' actor Harrison Ford pinned under the door of the Millenium Falcon set has been settled in a UK court for a massive $2 million.

According to The Daily Mail, the Disney owned company 'Foodles Production' has been ordered to cough up the huge amount to cover the actors injuries which included a broken tibia and fibula, a dislocated ankle and a deep cut to his hand which required plastic surgery to repair. The court heard that the injuries could have been far worse, even killing the actor. Foodles admitted to two counts of breaching its health and safety duties in relation to the on-set incident.

Still, Disney won't be hurting too much from the payout, with 'The Force Awakens' grossing over $2 billion at the world wide box office.

Remembering the man that helped build today's future

Lana Jelic | Business, Financial & Legal | Oct 12, 2016 3:28 PM CDT

Five years ago, we lost two people who had an enormous impact on the IT industry. On October 5th, 2011 Steve Jobs, the man whose vision and determination are responsible for a revolution in the industry of personal computers, music, tablets, mobile phones, animated movies, had died.

Just a week later, on this day in 2011, the world lost a true legend, a man to who we owe everything we know about modern computing, a man who isn't as nearly as praised as he should be - Dennis Ritchie.

Ritchie was an American computer scientist who received the Turing Award in 1983 for his accomplishments. And there are quite a few things we owe to this great man.

Verizon Pixel phones will update same time as Google

Sean Ridgeley | Mobile Devices | Oct 12, 2016 3:05 PM CDT

Last week we reported Pixel phones bought through Google partner Verizon would receive updates through Verizon, with the assumption they'd be late as is typically the case. Verizon however has assured that updates will occur simultaneously.

"All operating system and security updates to the Pixel devices will happen in partnership with Google. In other words, when Google releases an update, Verizon phones will receive the same update at the same time (much like iOS updates)," a spokesperson for the company said. "Verizon will not stand in the way of any major updates and users will get all updates at the same time as Google."

Verizon also notes their version is carrier unlocked and sports just three pre-installed apps, all of which are easily uninstalled.

The two 19 year old hackers--Zachary Buchta from the U.S. and Bradley Jan Willem van Rooy from the Netherlands--have been charged for masterminding DDoS attacks for Lizard Squad and Poodlecorp, selling DDoS software and fraudulent credit cards.

The duo allegedly carried out a number of DDoS strikes, including the most recent crippling the Battlefield 1 beta servers. After the beta DDoS, Lizard Squad promised to smash Battlefield 1's servers once again when it launched on October 21.

AMD drops Gaming Evolved app

Sean Ridgeley | Software & Apps | Oct 12, 2016 12:55 PM CDT

You may have noticed recently the lack of a 'Gaming Evolved' check box in the AMD driver installation window. As it turns out, the company has discontinued the app, so if you want to record or stream gameplay, you'll have to look externally to Plays.tv, OBS Studio, and so on.

"Starting September 12, 2016, AMD is no longer bundling the AMD Gaming Evolved App by Raptr with builds of Radeon Software," reads the official statement. "The application will still work. AMD will cease to undertake any compatibility testing, install support or general technical support for this application, nor will it be available through Radeon Software or its installer. Previous builds of Radeon Software that include the AMD Gaming Evolved App dated before September 12th 2016 will remain intact and will not be affected."

The news isn't too surprising as most found the app clunky and inefficient, particularly in comparison to competitor GeForce Experience. One hopes then AMD is hard at work on a proper, internal solution.

4K video of Google Pixel XL is fake

Lana Jelic | Mobile Devices | Oct 12, 2016 11:25 AM CDT

A stunning video emerged last week showing the video capabilities of the Pixel XL camera. As noted in the previous article, there was a chance the video is fake, and now it has been confirmed that video is indeed fake.

Ron8it user thought it would be fun to steal a video originally posted on Vimeo by Ruben Sanchez and try to sell it as his own shot with a Google's Pixel XL. The video is indeed stunning, but it doesn't show how good the Pixel XL camera is. Instead, it shows the capabilities of the Panasonic GH4.

As stated under the original video, it was shot in 4K UHD on a Panasonic GH4, with Lumix and Nikon lenses. The YouTube user that "borrowed" the video has removed it in the mean time. It also poses questions about his other videos, allegedly showing the wonders of the iPhone 7 Plus camera.

Castlevania gets reborn in Unreal Engine

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Oct 12, 2016 10:32 AM CDT

Castlevania, that beloved sidescroller that taught you the meaning of "NES hard," is being unofficially remastered in a fan-made game with modern graphics.

Castlevania gets reborn in Unreal Engine

Let's get this out of the way: I love Castlevania. I've been playing the games like a madman, and so far I've beaten Symphony of the Night and Super Castlevania IV, got to Dracula on Castlevania Dracula X, and am currently playing through the original trilogy on Wii U Virtual Console and Castlevania Chronicles on PS1. So when I heard that Dracula-slayer and resident indie dev Dejawolf is in the process of remaking the original NES Castlevania game in Unreal Engine 4, I practically leaped for joy (careful to avoid those floating Medusa heads!)

After more than a year of work on the project, the first chapter of the remake is currently available for download. Sadly, the game is almost unplayable thanks to its awkward keyboard controls, but it's not meant to be a final release--this is more of a demo of sorts, a taste of what's to come. I tried using an Xbox 360 controller with the game, and I could jump, but I couldn't use the whip...so I had to use Xpadder to bind my keyboard to my controller.

Military craft mysteriously spends 500 days in orbit

Lana Jelic | Science, Space, & Robotics | Oct 12, 2016 9:37 AM CDT

One of the most mysterious American military aircraft has spent 500 days in the Earth's orbit on a mission about which we know almost nothing.

The US military launched the X-37B in May last year on its fourth mission. Although some details about the cargo are known, the mission of this spacecraft remains unknown. We don't know how long will it stay in space or where it will land.

Among many theories, some mention the X-37B could be a space bomber or a new type of probe that can destroy spy satellites.

Apple's shares hit new high since last year

Lana Jelic | Business, Financial & Legal | Oct 12, 2016 8:23 AM CDT

While Samsung is trying to forget the Note7 ever happened after the second global recall and the end of production of the device, Apple has reasons to celebrate. Not only did they lose their main competitor to their new iPhone 7, but their stock jumped by 2.3 percent, reaching highest point since last year's December. Part of this can be attributed to the fact that many analysts expect that Apple will gain some sales of their controversial new iPhone even though it was panned by many critics for not having a headphone jack.

Apple's stock was up $2.66 on Tuesday, while at the same time Samsung's dropped by 5%. Samsung is experiencing a major crisis after the decision to permanently end the production of the Galaxy Note7 was made.

On the other hand, Apple is doing pretty well. Although its shares hit a very low point in May, when rumors about "weak and boring" new iPhone started to float around, Apple's new iPhone is in high demand, and the rise of their stock value confirms it.

NX officially named Nintendo Duo?

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Oct 12, 2016 7:32 AM CDT

First we had the Xbox One, then the PlayStation 4 Pro. Now if rumors are to be believed, the NX could be called the Nintendo Duo.

NX officially named Nintendo Duo?

Nintendo Duo. That might be the name of Nintendo's new NX handheld-console hybrid. At least if a purported "leaked" document can be believed, but there's also a huge change it's fake. Based on past evidence and postulations, this isn't a bad name; I posited how Nintendo would unify handheld and console gaming.

The way I see it, the NDuo is made up of two components: a handheld module, and a console module (hence the duo). As far as games, we have reason to believe the NDuo's games, which come on cartridges, could be swapped interchangably between the two bits of hardware. The hardware itself would be unified under a single platform, but the handheld would play a handheld-specific version of the game, whereas the console would play the full version of the game.

On this day: NeXT computers changed the course of IT

Lana Jelic | Software & Apps | Oct 12, 2016 7:27 AM CDT

Following a long power struggle, Steve Jobs was forced out of Apple in 1985. After leaving Apple, Jobs took a few of its members with him to found NeXT, a computer platform development company specializing in state-of-the-art computers for higher-education and business markets.

The new company began to build the NeXT computer that has been launched on this day in 1988 in San Francisco. The NeXT Computer was revealed at an invitation-only gala launch event on October 12th, 1988. The following day, selected educators and software developers were invited to attend the first public technical overview of the NeXT computer, and they had to pay $100 registration fee to witness Steve Jobs himself introducing the computer.

The NeXT Computer was not a significant commercial success. It failed to reach the level of sales of Apple II, Commodore 64 and Macintosh. However, this vast and expensive black cube is quite important for the IT history, and Jobs said the NeXT computer was ahead of its time.

BMW shows off new AR-ready cyberpunk future bike

With its new Motorrad concept futurebike, BMW has envisioned a helmet-less future for motorcyclists. While the bike isn't fully autonomous, it will balance itself at all times--whether at high speeds or stopped--and leverages a unique AI system called the "Digital Companion" that interacts with the operator.

Drivers also get a nifty AR visor that offers a full field of view with a heads-up display that scans and shows vital data like road conditions, weather, and incoming hazards. The bike also monitor's driver's eye movements and makes small adjustments while in transit to ensure a safer, smoother ride.

NZXT launches Aer RGB LED fans

Derek Strickland | Cases, Cooling & PSU | Oct 12, 2016 5:45 AM CDT

NZXT's new Aer RGB system fans are now available, offering a distinct stylish flair to any PC build.

NZXT launches Aer RGB LED fans

The new Aer RGB PWM fans rock a dazzling myriad of HUE+ color combinations and effects, all of which are controlled by NZXT's CAM software. HUE+ is required to unlock all the different lighting effects, but the fans will function without HUE+. The 4-pin PWM Aer cooling fans can be daisy-chained together for convenience, have a max speed of 1500 RPMs, and come in 120mm and 140mm form factors for basic chassis cooling and radiator cooling respectively.

Aer fan blades have a winglet-tip design that offer "optimal airflow while keeping noise to a minimum," with the 120mm fans hitting 61.4 CFM airflow with a max of 31 dBA, and the 140mm model hitting 71.6 CFM of airflow at 33dBA.
