Apex Legends tease Season 3 legend 'Crypto', possible new battle map

Jak Connor | Gaming | Sep 25, 2019 2:04 AM CDT

Respawn has taken to their official Apex Legends Twitter page to post a cryptic message teasing the release of the future 'Crypto' character, and the possible release of an additional map.

Apex Legends tease Season 3 legend 'Crypto', possible new battle map

The above Tweet shows a letter addressed to what seems to be Crypto's mother, but in reality its a coded messaged that is meant to read as follows: "As I'm sure you've heard I took your advice and I went to the Games. It's the only way I can get close to the people who framed me. All I had to do was distract the Syndicate long enough to get 'Crypto's' credentials into the system. You were right about the qualifying matches."

It continues to say "I looked into it and there's no way I could have gotten in. So I went with Plan B: I took down the Repulsor tower. I had no idea it would be so insane. I'm hoping the damage was enough to close King's Canyon so I can hitch a ride on the dropship off Solace, and find the evidence I need somewhere in New Dawn."

Comscore CEO faked their own numbers, fined by the SEC

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | Sep 25, 2019 12:20 AM CDT

Let's see how deep the rabbit hole we're about to go, with the SEC fining Comscore and its former CEO Serge Matta over fluffing its own books and committing fraud.

Comscore CEO faked their own numbers, fined by the SEC

Comscore -- whose performance metrics on websites is widely used across the world, has its former CEO admitting to fraud as he artificially inflated revenue by $50 million by fluffing numbers between 2014 and 2016, with Matta reportedly seeing Comscore join "non-monetary transactions" that would see the company giving data without expecting money.

The inflated sense of that value was reported as revenue, with Matta lying to both accountants and auditors -- these moves however, made it seem like Comscore was rocketing nowhere but towards the sky.

Russia won't tell NASA what caused LEAK on International Space Station

Anthony Garreffa | Science, Space, & Robotics | Sep 24, 2019 10:36 PM CDT

A super-small and easily-fixed hole was discovered on the International Space Station in August 2018 by flight controllers, and now someone finally knows why.

Russia won't tell NASA what caused LEAK on International Space Station

Russia knows and it won't say what it was, with Russian space agency boss Dmitry Rogozin saying they know what it was but will not share the information with the US or NASA. Rogozin told attendees at a youth science conference: "We know exactly what happened, but we won't tell you anything".

It wasn't just the youth at the science fair that the Russian space agency boss was cold to, but also NASA -- in whom it is in direct partnership with along with the United States when it comes to the International Space Station. NASA boss Jim Bridenstine told the Houston Chronicle: "They have not told me anything. I don't want to let one item set (the relationship) back, but it is clearly not acceptable that there are holes in the International Space Station".

Microsoft's latest operating system is on a bunch of devices that go beyond just the PC, with Windows 10 inside of HoloLens, Xbox, Surface Hub, the entire Surface family of devices, and more.

We should expect to see Windows 10 reach over 1 billion users at this rate in the coming months, with early 2020 seeming the most likely. Microsoft had 800 million users on Windows 10 in March which was 6 months ago now, so we should expect February-March 2020 for the huge 1B milestone.

Anthony Garreffa | Science, Space, & Robotics | Sep 24, 2019 7:02 PM CDT

A new mineral has been found inside of a diamond at a volcanic site in South Africa, with Ph.D. student Nicole Meyer and a team of researchers from the University of Alberta making the discovery.

Scientists find ENTIRELY NEW MINERAL inside a diamond in South Africa

The new material is known as Goldschmidtite after the legendary geochemist Victor Moritz Goldschmidt, and was found atop the Koffiefontein mine in a volcanic dig site, inside of a diamond. Goldschmidtite is an interesting new mineral, and finding it must've felt like ten Christmas mornings at once for the team.

Meyer explained: "Goldschmidtite has high concentrations of niobium, potassium, and the rare earth elements lanthanum and cerium, whereas the rest of the mantle is dominated by other elements, such as magnesium and iron".

Sony's latest State of Play stream caused ripples in the Call of Duty community thanks to PS4-exclusive content. Some of Modern Warfare's content is only available to PS4 users, including a new Spec Ops gametype. Activision affirms the Spec Ops mode and all included missions will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC at launch, complete with cross-play functionality.

Borderlands 3 sales milestone causes stocks to dip

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Sep 24, 2019 4:00 PM CDT

Borderlands 3's big sales figures actually caused Take-Two's stock to drop by nearly 5% as the game failed to beat analyst projections.

Borderlands 3 sales milestone causes stocks to dip

Yesterday Take-Two announced some impressive metrics behind Borderlands 3. Gearbox's sequel has shipped 5 million copies worldwide in five days, and sold 50% more copies that Borderlands 2 in the same period. Borderlands 3 is also the fastest-selling 2K title of all time, bumping the franchise to $1 billion in total earnings. It also did well on PC, becoming the fast-selling 2K game on PC in a five-day period, and outperforming expectations. But investors and analysts weren't tremendously impressed by these figures.

Since the announcement, Take-Two's stock has dropped from yesterday's $131.11 high down to $124.91 low during the time of writing, representing a 4.72% dip. The 5 million shipments (sell-in, not sell-through as in actual sales) aligns with predictions made by analysts like Wedbush Securities Michael Pachter and Suntrust's Matthew Thornton, meaning Take-Two failed to beat Wall Street guidance.

Black Ops 4 winds down with new final superhero-focused operation

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Sep 24, 2019 1:46 PM CDT

The last bit of content in Black Ops 4's season pass is coming up, and it's superhero-based.

Black Ops 4 winds down with new final superhero-focused operation

Today Activision announced Operation Dark Divide, a new villains vs heroes operation that serves as the last bit of seasonal content for Black Ops 4. With Modern Warfare coming up, it's important the big new Call of Duty doesn't get overshadowed by last year's game, even if it was a huge success. Black Ops 4's roadmap has predictably petered out to make way for Modern Warfare's release next month.

Operation Dark Divide's content offering hints Treyarch is busily working on Black Ops 5, which is rumored as a Cold War-focused title. Dark Divide doesn't bring any new operators, but it rolls out two new multiplayer maps (Lair and Launch), three new weapons, a bunch of new skins to buy and earn, new Blackout characters, new zombies elixirs and a new perk. There's no new Blackout maps, sadly. The zombies mode also gets its last major storyline expansion, Tag Der Toten.
