Huawei's upcoming Mate 30 Pro should feature 4 rear cameras

Anthony Garreffa | Mobile Devices | Aug 26, 2019 9:18 PM CDT

Huawei is expected to unveil its next-gen Mate 30 Pro smartphone on September 19, alongside the standard Mate 30 -- with a big tease for the higher-end Mate 30 Pro and its purported 4 rear-facing cameras.

Huawei's upcoming Mate 30 Pro should feature 4 rear cameras

According to the new leaks on Chinese social network Weibo, we can expect a quad-camera rig on the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. The post says (when translated) to the Mate 30 Pro rolling out with a Kirin 990 processor, super sensitive to light with four cameras, and double fast recharge.

So we can expect a kick ass camera setup, a new Kirin 990 processor, and super-fast recharging. That is all OK with me, and brings Huawei up to the level of Samsung and its just-arrived Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ smartphones.

KFC debuts test of non-meat 'miracle' nuggets in Atlanta, Georgia

Anthony Garreffa | Science, Space, & Robotics | Aug 26, 2019 8:48 PM CDT

Kentucky Fried Chicken has just unveiled something I don't think anyone would've predicted when the colonel began his world domination through the secret herbs and spices in 1952 -- meat-free nuggets.

KFC debuts test of non-meat 'miracle' nuggets in Atlanta, Georgia

The company is using Beyond Meat, which are plant-based fake meat nuggets -- with KFC testing out the new 'Kentucky Fried Miracle' in Atlanta, Georgia. The thing is that plant-based meat alternatives aren't anything new, but Kentucky Fried Chicken throwing its hat into the ring is a big deal with other giants in Burger King, Carl's Jr, and Del Taco all offering plant-based meats from either Beyond Meats, or their competitor Impossible Foods.

KFC will cook the fake meat in the same fryers used to cook the normal chicken, so it is not absolutely, completely meat-free. It's being cooked in the same oil as the meat, so I guess there will be some form of chicken floating onto the plant-based meat... right?

Sex robots with 'coding errors' could STRANGLE you in the act

Anthony Garreffa | Science, Space, & Robotics | Aug 26, 2019 8:18 PM CDT

The world is getting pretty kinky, but I think this new story really tops them all - killer robots that will strangle their partners, is something that is being warned if robotics are not regulated properly.

Sex robots with 'coding errors' could STRANGLE you in the act

Doll collector Brick Dollbanger is an "expert" on sex robots, who has warned that a "coding error" could turn your robotic girlfriend into a killer, strangling you in the act. Dollbanger works with sex robot manufacturers Realbotix and Abyss, where he warned: "It scares me to death, it's a machine and it's always going to be a machine".

I didn't quite believe this story when I first read it, so I slid into the world of this Brick Dollbanger, the doll banger. Forbes wrote a piece with a lot of girth on the doll banger in September 2018, referring to him as a "sex robot beta-tester" in an article titled Meet The Man Who Test Drives Sex Robots. So yeah, it's real.

iFixit teardown Samsung's new Galaxy Note 10+ 5G smartphone

Anthony Garreffa | Mobile Devices | Aug 26, 2019 7:32 PM CDT

Samsung has released its new Galaxy Note 10+ 5G handset into the market, with iFixit already tearing down Samsung's latest and greatest 5G-powered smartphone.

iFixit teardown Samsung's new Galaxy Note 10+ 5G smartphone

The new Galaxy Note 10+ 5G won't be easy to repair, with Samsung positioning the motherboard at the top half of the phone -- just like Apple does with the iPhone X. Samsung secures more room to make the battery wider (as the Note 10+ 5G has a 4300mAh battery) but requires cables between the motherboard and daughterboard.

This move blocks access to the battery, and while they can be moved to the side, iFixit notes it'll be harder to repair broken Galaxy Note 10+ 5G handsets.

Evil Rey wields Darth Maul's lightsaber in Rise of Skywalker trailer

Derek Strickland | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Aug 26, 2019 2:31 PM CDT

What if Rey turned to the dark side and became a fallen Jedi? Then she'd have a foldable dual-handed lightsaber that'd make Darth Maul jealous and Samsung proud, of course.

Evil Rey wields Darth Maul's lightsaber in Rise of Skywalker trailer

Disney just dropped a new Episode IX: Rise of Skywalker teaser, and it shows a dark Sith lord Rey ready for total destruction. The footage shows a murderous Rey in black apparel, armed with a wicked folding red lightsaber, hinting at possible outcomes for the film. Does Rey turn evil, thus killing the Jedi once and for all? If we had to guess this is just one of those nebulous Force trials where Rey has to face off against her evil self--or maybe it's a vision of what could happen if she succumbs to Palpatine's will.

The new footage is very brief but it hints at big things. There's thousands of Star Destroyers in formation for an epic battle, Kylo and Rey duke it out on a floating barge in some faraway world, and even C-3PO gets corrupted. The new Death Star (aka the Starkiller base) might've also gotten resurrected to annihilate Rebel scum.

Disneyland's Avengers Campus has a undisclosed villain on Wakanda ride

Jak Connor | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Aug 26, 2019 5:15 AM CDT

During the D23 Expo, Disney announced that some upgrades will be heading over to Disneyland and that these new attractions will take visitors to the magical land of 'Wakanda'.

Disneyland's Avengers Campus has a undisclosed villain on Wakanda ride

The news was announced during the Disneyland parks panel and the upgrades come in the form of a new ride that will be added to the Californian Avengers Campus phase 2. This new ride will be featured in the corner of the campus that is directly Black Panther themed and visitors will get to experience a flight from Avengers HQ to Wakanda.

What kind of ride would this be if its visitors didn't get to experience an epic Avengers-level fight? Disney have of course included this, as visitors will be thrown into a major fight scene with an undisclosed villain at the end. The Avengers Campus is currently under construction and the park is scheduled to open sometime during 2020.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate crossed over with Nickelodeon Characters

Jak Connor | Gaming | Aug 26, 2019 4:07 AM CDT

Nickelodeon Animations are celebrating their internal annual Super Smash Bros. tournament and what better way to build the hype then to dish up a epic crossover poster.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate crossed over with Nickelodeon Characters

Nickelodeon's SpongeBob Squarepants storyboard artist, Kurt Snyder is to thank for the above crossover poster that features the same layout as the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate one but features iconic Nickelodeon characters. Snyder has also gone above and beyond to converge the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character positions and features with the Nickelodeon characters.

The first thing that has popped into my head after seeing this is what would Nickelodeon characters look like in Super Smash Bros.?They would certainly have to retain their cartoon look for authenticity purposes, but how would they play? Take Spongebob Square Pants for example, would his range attacks be him blowing bubbles? Could he form into a cube and smash into the ground like Kirby? Nickelodeon character move-sets are a strange but awesome thing to think about, and if Nickelodeon characters ever did make it to Smash I think they would be a massive nostalgic hit.

President Trump wants to NUKE HURRICANES to stop them hitting the US

Anthony Garreffa | Science, Space, & Robotics | Aug 25, 2019 11:14 PM CDT

I don't know what would scare me more, seeing a hurricane off in the distance -- or a stealth bomber flying over it and dropping a nuclear bomb inside of it. Yeah, that's what President Trump wants to do.

President Trump wants to NUKE HURRICANES to stop them hitting the US

Axios reports from sources who have heard the president's private remarks and been briefed on a National Security Council memorandum that recorded those comments "that in a meeting between President Trump and top national security and homeland security officials over threats with hurricanes, Trump said: "I got it. I got it. Why don't we nuke them?"

Trump continued: "They start forming off the coast of Africa, as they're moving across the Atlantic, we drop a bomb inside the eye of the hurricane and it disrupts it. Why can't we do that?"

Warhorse Studios PR boss Tobias Stolz-Zwilling talked with Gamepressure recently, with the site asking if the developer would use CRYENGINE or not. Tobias replied: "We're not planning to change anything - simply because we made so many tools and so many things with the engine, adjusted it".

He continued: "It was never used for any RPGs before we did it. We did so much with the engine that we are afraid that changing it would mean starting from the beginning. And if you think of how long we needed to make the engine work for KCD before we could just start to... work with it - just too long. And hope on a good cooperation with CryTech".

PewDiePie passes 100 million subscribers on YouTube

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Aug 25, 2019 8:30 PM CDT

PewDiePie has just reached a massive milestone, the first single person (not a group) that has reached 100 million subscribers on YouTube. YouTube itself celebrated the milestone:

PewDiePie passes 100 million subscribers on YouTube

Felix "PewDiePie" Kjellberg started his massive YouTuber journey with Minecraft and funnily enough, it is time for Minecraft's time in the limelight again with its resurgence in many ways. NVIDIA recently teamed with Microsoft for Minecraft with RTX, and it looks out of this world.

Indian music channel T-Series is home to the #1 subscribers on YouTube at 109 million, but PewDiePie's celebration is bigger - he's one person hitting 100m subscribers but he also got married this week. Some gigantic milestones for PewDiePie, that's for sure.

Razer will spawn its biggest retail store in the world in Las Vegas

Razer is opening its largest store in the world on September 7, with the gaming giant set to open the doors to its new Las Vegas gaming store to Vegas-based gamers.

Razer will spawn its biggest retail store in the world in Las Vegas

The new store is massive inside of the LINQ Promenade at a huge 2400 square feet through two floors, as both a "gaming hangout" that doubles as a social space, and somewhere that Razer can sell its vast range of gaming products.

Razer will have 10 gaming stations in the lower floor that will be home to esports tournaments, while the second story has a streaming lounge for online broadcasters. Razer will have a massive (and I'm sure super-awesome) 16-display wall that will be playing livestreams and competitions.

Remedy working on three new IPs, including unannounced AAA project

Control is coming out next week, but Remedy is already working on its next project. It just won't be released any time soon.

Remedy working on three new IPs, including unannounced AAA project

Remedy games are special and take a while to bake in the oven, but once one batch is done another goes right on the rack. As an indie studio, Remedy has to constantly jump from project-to-project in order to stay afloat, so it often starts planning its next game way before its current game is finished. This iterative process sees all previous games influencing the later ones, like Alan Wake 2 fed into Quantum Break which then morphed into Control.

Now Remedy talks about its upcoming projects, including a new AAA title and games in its new Vanguard live service team. We knew as far back as 2018 that a new AAA game outside of Control was in planning phases, but in a recent earnings call Remedy says the project is now in early dev stages.
