Next-gen Series X/S Fable reboot should have an awesome storyline
Control lead writer Anna Megill is also writing the new Fable reboot, so things could get pretty interesting.
A new Fable game is in development from Playground Games, and there's a few things we should expect from it. First, it'll be exclusive to the Xbox Series X and Series S next-gen console platform, so native 4K graphics, ultra-fast loading, and more vibrant, expansive worlds are probably a given. Second, the game could have a rather quirky and irreverent storyline infused with myth and legend.
Not much is known about the new Fable's storyline, but we do know Control writer Anna Megill is a lead writer on the project. This is a pretty exciting prospect. As seen in Remedy's excellent game Control, Megill brings a unique supernatural vision to her work. We're not exactly sure how this will fold into Fable's mythos. The series is known for its wacky humor and Princess Bride-style antics, and there's also an undercurrent of fairy-tale Arthurian magic too.

Report: New PS5 stock to surge in 2021, 18 million PS5s to be shipped
Sony could ship as many as 18 million PlayStation 5 consoles in 2021 and beat PS4's comparative second-year shipments, sources tell DigiTimes.
According to DigiTimes, Sony has secured a big contract with foundry titan TSMC to expand PS5 chip production. Sources say that TSMC could fabricate APUs for as many as 18 million PS5s in 2021.
The reports indicate Sony could have anywhere between 16.8 and 18 million PlayStation 5 consoles ready for shipment throughout 2021, beating out the PS4 by up to 3.2 million units. In comparison, the PlayStation 4 shipped 14.8 million consoles in 2014, its second year of availability.

CD Projekt will 'vigorously' defend against Cyberpunk 2077 lawsuits
At least two the five investigating law firms have filed class action securities fraud suits against CD Projekt Group. Now the games developer promises it will defend itself "vigorously" in court.
Five law firms are currently investigating CD Projekt Group for possibly misleading investors for material gain, which technically constitutes securities fraud. Two firms, Rosen Law and Schall Law, have moved forward by filing class-action lawsuits against CD Projekt. The allegations stem from CDP's miscommunication around Cyberpunk 2077's last-gen port, which kicked off widespread controversy and led to mass refunds and a significant stock drop (it's currently $19.18, down 23% since CP2077's launch).
The developer has now issued a response. CDPR confirms they received the class-action lawsuit and say they will take "vigorous action" against the lawsuits.

Report: PS5 ships record-breaking 3.4 million units in four weeks
Sony has shipped a huge 3.4 million PS5 consoles worldwide in its first month of availability, a new record for PlayStation hardware, sources tell DigiTimes.
According to DigiTimes, the PlayStation 5 is swinging out of the gate with strong shipment surges. Sony has reportedly made good on its promise of widespread console availability for the holidays, and has shipped 3.4 million consoles to worldwide markets in four weeks' time. Remember, this is shipments so it's technically sell-in, not sell-through or actual sales, but due to extreme demand it's implied that all of these units were sold to consumers.
If accurate, this figure places the PS5 at the top of PlayStation console launch shipments. A like-for-like comparison against the PS4 is tough because we don't know exact 4-week figures for the PS4. The PS4 sold 2.1 million units in its first two weeks of availability, and shipped 4.3 million units in Q3'13 and another 3.3 million units in Q4'13. All in all, the PlayStation 4 managed to ship 7.6 million units in the two quarters after launch.

This 78 x GeForce RTX 3080 crypto mining rig makes $128,000 per year
You might be finding it impossible to buy a GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card worldwide right now, but crypto miners have their hands-on a lot of them -- and this crypto miner has 78 x GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards for a huge ETH mine.
Simon Byrne built this crypto mining setup which consists of 13 x 6 card arrays for a total of 78 GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards. Each card should be using around 300W of power, so this 78 x GPU crypto mine would be using around 23.4 kilowatts of power to run -- and then there's AC on top.
Our friends at TechARP breaking down the pricing noting that Bryne is based in Las Vegas, taking that into consideration when talking about how much the mine costs to run. As for the GPUs, we're looking at the base mine costing around $100,000 or so:

A bunch of custom PS5 faceplates are coming from dbrand in 2021
If you've been lucky enough to buy Sony's next-gen PlayStation 5 console this year, or you're gearing up to buy one sometime in 2021, then you'll be happy to know dbrand will have matte black faceplates and much more coming soon for the PS5.
The company wrote a post on Reddit announcing it had started mass producing custom faceplates for the PlayStation 5. dbrand wrote: "After moving a few more chess pieces through four dimensions, we added a new production line to our plastic injection molding facility and got to work. The skills we've refined through the past few years of developing the Grip Case has uniquely positioned our organization to create OEM-grade Faceplates: ones with all of the precision, attention to detail, and needlessly elaborate packaging that you've come to expect from dbrand".
"We'll be entering mass production on PS5 Faceplates by year's end. However, we won't be accepting orders until we have stock at our Toronto HQ, ready to ship. If CD Projekt RED has taught us anything, it's that selling products before they're finished is a bad idea".

Warner Bros. sees a future of cinema in 2023, HBO Max will settle down
Warner Bros. has some big plans for 2021 but the COVID-19 pandemic has wrecked havoc on the cinema industry, forcing WB to push all 2021 movies to debut on its streaming service HBO Max as well as in theaters where it can.
But now there are reports that Furiosa, The Color Purple, and Coyote vs. Acme will debut in theaters in 2023, while WB will debut their 2021 movies like The Matrix 4, Dune, The Suicide Squad on HBO Max and in theaters, while Zack Snyder's Justice League will be an exclusive to HBO Max but I see it being big enough that a cinema release will happen.
Variety reports that Warner Bros. "called the unprecedented release strategy, one that drew criticism from all corners of Hollywood, a "unique one-year" model in response to the pandemic. Wednesday's announcement suggests that Warner Bros. intends to continue its commitment to theatrical releases".

Check out this PS5 made from solid GOLD that costs close to $1 million
Caviar is known for some truly one-of-a-kind tweaks on popular electronic products like smartphones, but now the Russian jewelry company has designed a truly unique PlayStation 5 called "Golden Rock". Check it out:
The company will be making a single custom PS5 made from solid gold, with 20KG of gold used on Golden Rock. Caviar explains Golden Rock: "The fastest, most powerful and advanced Sony PlayStation 5 is definitely one of the best-selling game consoles. Caviar jewelers could not pass by such a luxurious and very difficult to manufacture golden version of the PlayStation".
Golden Rock was inspired by the geometry of the gold ore and outlines of the rock itself, so the gold-laden PS5 console has been made with 8 sheets of 18 carats gold which weigh in at a very, very hefty 20KG or so.

Expect next-gen upgrades for Assassin's Creed Valhalla soon
In a recent interview with Game Informer, Ubisoft producer Julien Laferriere said there are improvements coming for Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
The game doesn't have any ray tracing elements, native 4K rendering on the next-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles, but there are improvements coming to those platforms -- and high-end PC. Laferriere said: "When looking at Valhalla's post-launch plans, it was important to me to have quality-of-life fixes in there, and also be able to react to the new platforms, because they continue improving".
He continued: "We've got great reception on PS5, Series X, and PC as well -- people are definitely enjoying the high-end capabilities of the game, so we want to continue to capitalize on that. This isn't meant to sound like bullshit or cliche, but for me, it's about hearing what the player base is saying and reacting to that, on top of the extra content and the features".

NVIDIA's next-gen AD102 GPU: RTX 4090 twice as fast as the RTX 3090?!
NVIDIA's current flagship GeForce RTX 3090 is a beast of a graphics card, with AMD able to take a few blows with its Big Navi-powered Radeon RX 6900 XT -- but now we're hearing about the next-gen AD102 GPU.
The post-Christmas news is coming from leaker @kopite7kimi, who has said NVIDIA's next-gen AD102 GPU built on the next-gen Ada Lovelace GPU architecture will pack an insane 72 Texture Processor Clusters (TPCs) and 144 Streaming Multiprocessors.
AD102 rocking 144 SMs would see the GPU packing a quite simply insane 18432 CUDA cores, which is a gigantic 71% more CUDA cores than the flagship Ampere-based GA102 GPU that powers the GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card.

Remember Titan Quest? THQ Nordic is teasing a sequel to the ARPG
Titan Quest 2 could be in development at THQ Nordic, but exact details are sparse.
Today Handy Games, a dev team subsidiary of THQ Nordic, shared an interesting Twitter post that has the exact same gladiator artwork as the newer Titan Quest re-release. The post teases a 2021 release date and shows four heroes this time and strongly indicates a new game is in the works--or possible a new expansion.
There's no info on Handy Games' website, and the job listings don't give any clues...but we don't exactly need them, do we? THQ Nordic owns the rights to Titan Quest and actually re-released the game on modern platforms like the PS4, Switch, and Xbox One in 2018, followed by an expansion.

This Cyberpunk 2077 mod might give you an extra 30FPS on PC
Update: It seems EZ Optimizer has been in the headlines again, with Hybrid Analysis deeming the software as "malicious". TechRaptor reports that an open source alternative in CyberEngineTweaks can be used to tweak Cyberpunk 2077.
Even if you have some of the best hardware you can buy, Cyberpunk 2077 is beyond being the new Crysis in terms of PC hardware requirements. Hell, the game is so next-gen it has practically melted the PS4 and Xbox One consoles to the point of Cyberpunk 2077 being pulled from those platforms.
But what if you want more performance without having to do much? That's exactly what programmer CodeZ1LLa has done with his new EZ Optimizer for Cyberpunk 2077 that will offer up to 30FPS more performance in the game.

Elon Musk: SpaceX to test Super Heavy booster in 'a few months'
SpaceX will be testing its new Super Heavy booster in "a few months" from now according to Elon Musk, with the Super Heavy booster being used to fly Starship and its orbital launches and deeper space missions -- it'll also be how SpaceX will land on Mars soon.
Musk said that the company will be testing the Super Heavy booster at its two launch pads down in Boca Chica, Texas with new prototype rockets to be tested on each launch pad. The company recently began setting up its new SN9 prototype of Starship at its Texas testing facility, before this news began to float out.
SpaceX will have an engineering marvel with Super Heavy standing at a large 240 feet tall with 28 Raptor engines in total, with Super Heavy recently seeing a prototype of the next-gen heavy-lift rocket exploding once it landed after a high-altitude test flight in Texas.

Chris Roberts: Star Citizen is making 'tremendous strides'
Cloud Imperium Games founder and CEO Chris Roberts has taken some time to write a rather large update to Star Citizen Fans, winding down 2020 and setting the bar for 2021. You can read the big blog post here.
In the post, Roberts talks about how good the year has been for Star Citizen -- noting the effects that the COVID-19 pandemic had on work-from-home policies. The developer had 4 separate updates for Star Citizen for 2020, ranging from Alpha 3.9 through to Alpha 3.12 and a bunch of new features and content along the way.
Star Citizen had record players in 2020 with gamers from over 200 unique countries and territories across the world, with over 740,000 players playing Star Citizen in 2020. This breaks down to people playing from 56,340 unique cities and pumping in a huge 26,576,364 hours into the game.

Fox Sports uses Sony A7R IV for more cinematic feels in NFL broadcasts
Fox Sports is going for more cinematic feel in its matches it seems, with a recent match seeing operator Mike Smole using what he calls a "poor man's Steadicam" for some of the cinematic shots below:
The rig itself is nicknamed the "Megalodon" consisting of a Sony A7R IV, Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM lens, DJI Ronin-S gimbal, a field monitor and a 1080p wireless transmitter. The rig costs around $10,000 but that is miles cheaper than a broadcast camera and full Steadicam rig.
The micro-HDMI port on the Sony A7R VI is outputting 1080p, so Fox Sports color corrected the signal live in order to match the broadcast cameras. The effect is awesome, showing in-your-face NFL as an 11th camera on Sunday's Washington-Seattle battle.

PS5's Returnal is the game Mass Effect Andromeda should've been
Housemarque just released a video detailing its new game Returnal, and it looks like Mass Effect Andromeda...only 10x better.
So far, Returnal looks to be one of the must-have PS5 games of 2021. The game features weird sci-horror elements and uses explosive third-person action combat that reminds me very much of BioWare's failed action-RPG mashup. In a very real sense, Returnal is an evolution of ME Andromeda and shows what the game could've been like if it had more time to bake in the oven.
Watching Returnal's gameplay, it's hard not to instantly imagine Andromeda. Selene, the main character, zaps back and forth from place to place with a third-person camera, complete with jumping, chaotic shoot-em-up elements, and even some melee attacks.

Warframe dev will remain indie after Tencent buyout: no changes coming
Tencent now owns Leyou Technologies and all of its associated subsidiaries, which means Tencent also owns Warframe devs Digital Extremes. Luckily nothing is changing for the developer.
Chinese juggernaut Tencent just made a big purchase that includes Halo dev Splash Damage and Warframe developer Digital Extremes. So what does this mean for the future of Warframe? According to the developers at Digital Extremes, nothing will change under Tencent's rule.
The studio will remain 100% independent and Tencent won't jump in and influence new content creation, upcoming updates, or future optimizations on PC/PS5/Xbox Series X.

Activision stock now is higher than its ever been in 26 years
Activision shares closed at $90.96 on December 24, setting a new all-time record high for the company's stock.
Activision stock is now higher than it has ever been in the company's 26-year history. The share spike was driven by Activision-Blizzard's successful releases including World of Warcraft Shadowlands, which is now the fastest-selling PC game of all time with 3.7 million copies moved in 1 day, and Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War.
Call of Duty hit an incredible milestone in 2020 by generating $3 billion in revenues as of December. The franchise has now made up nearly 40% of Activision's total trailing 12-month earnings. The new inter-connected ecosystem combines Warzone, Black Ops Cold War, Modern Warfare, and Call of Duty Mobile with monetization and full game sale earnings in a cohesive, cross-progression system.
