On their fourth attempt, the U.S. Air Force and Lockheed Martin launched a hypersonic missile, the AGM-183A Air-launched Rapid Response Weapon (ARRW).

The Air Force completed the launch on May 14th, 2022, deploying the missile from a B-52H Stratofortress off the coast of Southern California. Hypersonic flight refers to speeds over five times the speed of sound, otherwise known as Mach 5. This allows hypersonic weapons to be deployed further away while flying at lower altitudes, as well as making them more difficult to detect and intercept than conventional missiles.

Though the AGM-183A supposedly has a top speed of Mach 20, extreme temperature and pressure at these speeds would make new materials for its construction and avionics necessary for it to withstand the stresses. The test did not involve assessing the missile's top speed, but its booster rocket managed to accelerate it to above Mach 5. It successfully handled operation at those speeds and the team behind it "made history on this first air-launched hypersonic weapon."

The Nuclear Regulation Authority within the Japanese government has approved a plan by the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) to dispose of treated radioactive wastewater into the ocean.

TEPCO submitted the plan in December 2021 for gradually releasing the treated wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the ocean beginning in 2023. The government made the decision last year that the wastewater was to be released as part of the ongoing cleanup and decommission of the plant following the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster.

A massive earthquake and tsunami at the time destroyed the plant's cooling systems, leading to the meltdown of three reactors. Water used to cool the damaged reactor cores has become irradiated and been collected and stored across a thousand water tanks on-site, with a capacity of 1.37 million tons that will likely be reached next year.

NASA has outlined the objectives for the Moon to Mars initiative following the early stages of its Artemis mission and is seeking feedback.

A new video posted to NASA's YouTube channel outlines a draft of NASA's objectives for reaching Mars, containing fifty points across four broad categories, including transportation and habitation; Moon and Mars infrastructure; operations; and science. NASA has also providing a document detailing each of these points and defining relevant terms.

NASA's grand plan involves the Artemis missions, which will return astronauts to the Moon, from where the agency can look to make the journey to Mars. With the latest draft of objectives for the Moon to Mars mission, NASA invites industries, academia, international communities, members of the public, and other stakeholders to provide input on the various points outlined. Comments can be submitted here, and are due by the end of May 31st 2022.

The U.K. Health Security Agency (UKHSA) noted six cases in England across London and Newcastle and has warned of potential spread within the community.

The monkeypox viral disease is caused by the monkeypox virus, which belongs to the same family of viruses that causes smallpox. Health officials warned on May 17th that the virus could potentially spread to other countries. On May 18th, cases were reported in Spain and Portugal, with eight potential cases in Spain and five confirmed cases with over a dozen probable cases in Portugal.

Monkeypox is a rare infection that results in symptoms including fever, headache, muscle aches, exhaustion, and swollen lymph nodes. As the infection progresses, rashes appear across the body, resulting in discolored patches of skin, blisters, scabs, and bumps.

Using augmented reality (AR), two fighter pilots completed a high-altitude drill a few thousand feet high over the desert of California on May 10th. Flying a pair of Berkut 540 jets and donning custom AR headsets, the pilots were shown virtual refueling aircraft in the sky, allowing one of the pilots to practice a refueling maneuver with the virtual aircraft while the other observed.

The augmented and virtual reality (VR) technology, head-mounted displays and artificial intelligence (AI) powered environments are being developed by Red 6 and allow pilots to take part in virtual dog fights against enemy aircraft and more while pulling several G's. Red 6 is developing a platform that will allow them to display various scenarios in AR and VR, while using lower latency and higher reliability hardware than consumer-grade AR and VR headsets.

An "industry leaker" has claimed that Apple is planning on redesigning its Apple Watch to feature flat edge glass panels.

The leaker "ShrimpApplePro" took to Twitter to write that they spoke to a source that said Apple is switching its rounded edge display for the Apple Watch and upgrading to a flat glass display, with the leaker saying, "High chance that this is the front glass for the Apple Watch Series 8". Notably, the leaker said that Apple could also be holding onto the glass for a future unannounced product.

Furthermore, the leaker said that the glass would be going into production around the same time as the glass for the iPhone 14 will be going into production. For those that don't know, rumors circulated last year that Apple would be giving its newest (at the time) Apple Watch Series 7 flat edges. These rumors didn't come true and have now turned into rumors about the Series 8. As with all rumors, take them with a grain of salt as some turn out to be true, and some turn out to be completely false.

Russia is making a move to accept Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as a form of payment following harsh international sanctions placed on the nation.

The news comes from Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, who recently spoke at an event called New Horizon, where he explained that Russia is planning on legalizing Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to bolster its economy. Notably, Manturov said that the question is "when it will happen" it's "how it will happen and how will it be regulated". Furthermore, the Russian official said that both the Russian government and Central Bank are on board with the adoption.

Despite Russia's clear motivation toward adopting Bitcoin, the Bank of Russia recently pushed for a complete ban on cryptocurrencies, citing it could undermine the Russian financial system. It seems that tune has been changed since the harsh international sanctions have crippled Russia's economy, with Russia's President Vladimir Putin pleading with financial regulators to come to an agreement on how digital currencies should be regulated.

A group of researchers from NCC Group in the UK has demonstrated a new way to break into Tesla vehicles.

The researchers explain that the security vulnerability can be pinpointed to the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology that is used to enter Tesla vehicles. The technology allows the driver to be authenticated when their key fob or app comes within a certain proximity of the car. The current system already comes with various safeguards, but NCC Group researchers have developed a new tool that is capable of bypassing these safeguards and remotely unlocking vehicles.

In a recent blog post by Sultan Qasim Khan, a senior security consultant at NCC Group, it's explained the researchers were able to successfully remotely unlock a 2020 Tesla Model 3 using an iPhone 13 mini that was running an outdated version of the Tesla app. The researchers explain that the iPhone was placed 27 yards away from the car, and two "relaying devices" were placed between the iPhone and the car. Combining the tool developed by the researchers and the relaying devices, they were able to successfully unlock the Tesla from a decent distance.

Stan Lee, the face of comic books, will be returning to the big screen in the form of his hit cameos, according to a new report.

A report from The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Marvel has entered into a 20-year-long deal with Genius Brands International and Lee's POW! Entertainment intellectual property company. The deal is to bring back comic book fans' beloved father figures in future Marvel-related products such as upcoming movies, merchandise, Disney theme park rides, or "experiences".

Stan Lee passed away in 2018, and his last cameo appearance was a posthumous digitally de-aged a car driver in Avengers: Endgame. The Hollywood Reporter writes that just because Marvel now has permission to digitally resurrect Lee in future movies, it doesn't mean that it will. The publication cited "insiders" cautioning that Lee's reappearance wouldn't be in the traditional way fans are expecting.

The lawsuit claims that the 12-year-old was trying to listen to a movie with the AirPods when an Amber Alert went off.

According to the suit, the 12-year-old boy called B.G in the filing had his AirPods connected to his iPhone and was watching a movie on Netflix at low volume. Apple's Amber Alert was then initiated, and the AirPods produced a high-pitched sound that "tore apart" the child's eardrums, while also causing damage to his cochlea. As a result of the damage, B.G now experiences significant hearing loss, nausea, vertigo, tinnitus, and now has to wear hearing aids.

The lawsuit claims that Apple is aware that some of its AirPods are "defective" and don't reduce the volume level when an Amber Alert is pushed out. Furthermore, the lawsuit claims that Apple doesn't provide a warning anywhere about the potential hazard.

A hacking group has created a robot that's purpose is to troll the Russian government by making as many calls as possible.

The hacking group called Obfuscated Dreams of Scheherazade is behind the hilarious robocaller, and explains on its website that it has collected the phone numbers of thousands of Duma employees, Ministry of War officials, high-ranking politicians, administrators, and more. The website, called Waste Russian Time, allows users to initiate a call which then activates the robocaller to make a call between two different random branches of Russia's government or officials within those branches.

The best part is the robocaller allows users to listen in on the conversation. It would definitely be helpful to know Russian, but I think all humans can tell when there is frustration or anger in someone's voice. The hacking group has written on its website that "If youʼre on the phone, you canʼt drop bombs or coordinate soldiers." At the time of writing, there have been 5204 calls made, and the group behind it all calls for a "peaceful intervention", and is described as "a form of civil resistance" against the war in Ukraine.

Russia's government has bragged that its using new laser weapons in its invasion of Ukraine, according to top officials.

A new report from Reuters revealed that the Russian government is using its invasion of Ukraine as an opportunity to test out new laser weapon prototypes that its military has been developing. Notably, Russia's deputy prime minister Yury Borisov stated that the laser weapons that are being used can incinerate drones. Supposedly, one test demonstrated the weapon was capable of taking down Ukrainian drones from 3.1 miles away in just five seconds.

Furthermore, the Russian military is also using its Peresvet laser technology to blind satellites, which is reportedly capable of blocking satellites up to 932 miles above Earth. Additionally, Borisov said that many of these Peresvet systems have been deployed, and that in the future, he can see laser weaponry, with more developments, eventually replacing traditional weapons systems.

MIT's nanoscience building used to be called "Building 12" but from this day forward, it will be known as "The Lisa T. Su Building". The new Lisa T. Su Building houses the MIT.nano Immersion Lab, which has a goal of "visualizing, understanding, and interacting with large, multidimensional data" as well as prototyping things for augmented and virtual reality devices.

The GTA franchise has broken $1 billion in yearly revenues for the first time since GTA V's release in 2013.

According to Take-Two Interactive's latest financial documents, the Grand Theft Auto series made $1.083 billion in FY22, the second-highest point in franchise history. GTA is so powerful that it made up 30.9% of the Take-Two's $3.5 billion in net revenues.

The growth spike was driven by GTA trilogy sales, which hit 10 million shipments in Q3, ongoing monetization in Grand Theft Auto Online, and continued GTA V sales. In fact, GTA V has sold 5 million copies per quarter throughout FY 2022.

Saudi Arabia now owns 5% of Nintendo's total shares, Bloomberg reports.

Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), a sovereign financing account with an estimated $600 billion in assets, has purchased 5% of Nintendo's overall shares to secure long-term earnings.

Saudi's PIF stake purchase represents 6,493,450 shares worth a total of $3 billion (384.86 billion yen). According to stock ownership data, the PIF is now the second-largest Nintendo stakeholder behind the Master Trust Bank of Japan, who owns nearly 13% of shares.
