AMD RX 7600 GPUs spotted at retailer - and price is in line with rumors

Darren Allan | May 17, 2023 8:28 AM CDT

AMD's RX 7600 is theoretically set to hit shelves next week, and we've just spotted another leaked price for the GPU - this time at a Canadian retailer.

AMD RX 7600 GPUs spotted at retailer - and price is in line with rumors

VideoCardz spotted the product listings at PC Canada (thanks to a keen-eyed reader) for two models of the RX 7600, the first of which was the (much-leaked-already) Sapphire Pulse graphics card priced at $452 (Canadian), which roughly converts to $335 in the US.

The other product, an MSI Mech 2X Classic spin on the RX 7600, was listed at $444 (Canadian) or about $339 in the US. (Interestingly, that MSI listing has now been yanked down, but the above Sapphire card remains - it may not by the time you read this, mind).

Intrel Arc Graphics driver release adds game support and updates Arc Control

Kosta Andreadis | May 16, 2023 11:28 PM CDT

Intel's latest Game On Driver for Intel Arc Graphics is here, supporting some new PC game releases like Starship Troopers: Extermination, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, and the online co-op horror of The Outlast Trials.

Intrel Arc Graphics driver release adds game support and updates Arc Control

When it comes to the in-game performance for the fun-looking riff on a classic sci-fi film, Starship Troopers: Extermination, Intel notes that the Intel Arc A750 Graphics card can deliver better greater-than-60fps performance than the GeForce RTX 3060 12Gb at both 1080p and 1440p using the 'Epic' and 'High' settings respectively. The game also supports Intel's DLSS-like AI upscaling in the form of Intel XeSS - which can help push 1440p performance to around 115fps.

For next week's launch of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, the new Game On Driver will lead to a smooth 60fps on the Intel Arc A750. Another Intel XeSS highlight for the new driver release is support for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to support the recent next-gen update that brought ray tracing and more advanced visuals to the iconic RPG. XeSS will allow for near 60fps performance using the game's demanding Ultra settings on the Intel Arc A750, though that's using the XeSS 'Performance' mode.

Report on poor RTX 4070 sales casts doubt on NVIDIA's appetite for gaming GPUs

Darren Allan | May 16, 2023 12:40 PM CDT

NVIDIA's RTX 4070 graphics card sales are flagging more than expected, if a new report is to be believed.

Report on poor RTX 4070 sales casts doubt on NVIDIA's appetite for gaming GPUs

IT Home, a regular source of leaks from China - but one that must be treated with some caution in our books - claims it has heard that NVIDIA is extending the pause on the manufacturing of RTX 4070 chips for longer than originally intended.

That original plan had been to take a break from shipping RTX 4070 GPUs to Chinese graphics card makers for one month, to let unexpectedly sluggish levels of sales catch up with the existing stock out there (and the graphics cards coming through already in the pipeline).

NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti could be on borrowed time, so get ready for some GPU bargains

Darren Allan | May 16, 2023 10:30 AM CDT

NVIDIA's RTX 3060 Ti is about to exit stage left, with Team Green planning to cease production of the GPU imminently - the GA104 chip, specifically - if chatter from the grapevine is correct.

NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti could be on borrowed time, so get ready for some GPU bargains

Benchlife brings the news that NVIDIA no longer supplies GeForce RTX 3060 Ti chips to its graphics card manufacturing partners (with the Chinese tech site hearing about this directly from those Add-in board makers).

As you likely realize, time is being called on production due to the incoming RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti models (the latter will supposedly come in 8GB and 16GB variants).

How fast is AMD's RX 7900 XTX with no power limit? It can match the RTX 4090 GPU

Darren Allan | May 16, 2023 7:46 AM CDT

AMD's RDNA 3 flagship GPU can match its Lovelace rival, the RTX 4090, just about, as a new experiment with the Radeon RX 7900 XTX proved - but there are some weighty caveats here.

How fast is AMD's RX 7900 XTX with no power limit? It can match the RTX 4090 GPU

PC Gamer spotted that an intrepid 7900 XTX owner conducted a test inspired by the question: "What could the 7900 XTX do if AMD didn't handicap it with highly restrictive power limits?"

That person, Jedi95, then detailed the results of juicing up their ASUS TUF Radeon RX 7900 XTX to the max on Reddit, and it makes for very interesting reading.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti with 16GB of VRAM will require 5W more in power

Kosta Andreadis | May 15, 2023 12:57 AM CDT

With all the debate surrounding VRAM capacity for playing modern PC games, the rumor is that NVIDIA plans to release a 16GB variant of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti sometime in July. This will follow the launch of the 8GB model planned for later this month, though both models have yet to be officially announced.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti with 16GB of VRAM will require 5W more in power

The reason for the slight delay, assuming this is a direct response to the vocal community wanting to see more 16GB cards, looks to come down to power. According to new reports, the 16GB variant of the RTX 4060 Ti will feature a different GPU than the AD106-350 chip in the 8GB model.

The jump is minor, to 351, with a new power rating of 165W - 5W higher than the 8GB model. This information comes via Videocardz.com, which cites NVIDIA documents provided to its board partners as the source. Full details for the AD106-351 chip have not been made public (officially or leak-wise). Still, the expectation is that things like CUDA Core counts and even memory speeds (18 Gbps) will remain the same, with the only difference being capacity.

AMD RX 7600 GPU leaks suggest higher than expected price - but don't panic yet

Darren Allan | May 12, 2023 11:14 AM CDT

Rumors around AMD's RX 7600 graphics card are coming in at a fair old pace now, and with the GPU supposedly less than a fortnight away from its launch, some retailer prices have been spotted.

AMD RX 7600 GPU leaks suggest higher than expected price - but don't panic yet

The bad news is that they're slightly higher than anticipated. As VideoCardz reports, Cowcotland - a French tech site - has sources claiming that the RX 7600 cards (custom models) will weigh in at €349 in France.

As VideoCardz works out, there's a 20% sales tax to be taken into account there, which would leave a rough price conversion at $315 - apply salt now - a bit pricier than the latest rumor from the tech site's own sources, which held that the RX 7600 should cost $300 (or maybe even a touch less).

Cryptominers are looking at converting their mining farms into AI operations

Kosta Andreadis | May 12, 2023 1:27 AM CDT

Massive quantities of GPUs all in a single location, powered up, crunching data, and performing various tasks. We could be talking about a crypto-mining setup or something newer, more high-tech, and bleeding edge, like an AI supercomputer setup in a data center.

Cryptominers are looking at converting their mining farms into AI operations

When it comes to the former, though, GPU-powered mining operations, the demand and viability of cryptocurrency mining have significantly decreased in the past year or so. And so, with mining operations looking to capitalize on unused processing power (in addition to flooding the second-hand market with used GPUs), they're looking towards AI.

According to a new report at Bloomberg, crypto-mining company Hut 8 Mining has generated USD 16.9 million from AI clients looking for high-performance computing. Then there's Hive BLockChain which bought USD 66 million of graphics cards from NVIDIA for its AI plans.

ASUS's new water-cooled ROG Strix LC GeForce RTX 4090 is a gaming beast

Kosta Andreadis | May 11, 2023 12:27 AM CDT

ASUS is launching a pair of new GeForce RTX 4090 models, both designed for extreme gaming performance (the RTX 4090 is still an absolute monster of a GPU) and for those with smaller cases. When the GeForce RTX 4090 launched last year, the ROG Strix and TUF Gaming models from ASUS were chunky, to say the least, with robust builds and plenty of room to keep the RTX 4090 from breaking a sweat.

ASUS's new water-cooled ROG Strix LC GeForce RTX 4090 is a gaming beast

The new ROG Strix LC GeForce RTX 4090 and TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 OG are two new cards from ASUS designed for smaller form factor builds. The former and its overclocked variant, the ROG Strix LC GeForce RTX 4090 OC Edition, represent the pinnacle of ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 action, which uses liquid cooling that spans both the GPU die and memory.

Adding a blower-style fan keeps the 2.6 slot thickness down to a more manageable level for smaller systems, though there's the additional requirement of installing the 240mm radiator. Having a blower fan on an AIO water-cooled GPU might seem strange, but it makes sense as an additional cooling for overclocking. Regarding looks, it's ROG Strix through and through, with bold use of lines, RGB, and ASUS branding.

Xbox Series S can run out of memory and has entered the 8GB VRAM debate

Kosta Andreadis | May 10, 2023 10:57 PM CDT

Redditors with Xbox Series S consoles have reported interesting errors when playing Borderlands 3. The message states that the console has "run out of video memory" after a crash back to the console's dashboard. What makes the error message strange is the PC-like addition of "try lowering the resolution or closing other applications that are running."

Xbox Series S can run out of memory and has entered the 8GB VRAM debate

And it highlights an issue not present for gamers with the more powerful Xbox Series X console-the limited memory capacity of the Xbox Series S.

With 8GB of VRAM currently in the spotlight in PC gaming, especially when playing titles at resolutions higher than 1080p, this error report inserts the Xbox Series S console into the debate. The Xbox Series S is designed as an entry-level digital console for modern gaming, but it targets 1440p as its baseline resolution.

NVIDIA RTX 4090 GPU hits a staggering 3.8GHz overclock in a 3D benchmark

Darren Allan | May 10, 2023 9:56 AM CDT

NVIDIA's Lovelace flagship GPU has been spotted with a massive overclock applied, and not for the first time - however, it is the first time that such a significant ramping up of boost speed has been seen while running a 3D application.

NVIDIA RTX 4090 GPU hits a staggering 3.8GHz overclock in a 3D benchmark

The RTX 4090 in question was a Colorful model, its iGame LAB flagship card, which was overclocked to 3.825GHz by expert overclocker 'CENS' using liquid nitrogen cooling.

The RTX 4090 was run at that speed in the Unigine Superposition benchmark, which may not be a gaming test, but it is a full 3D test that pushes the GPU as a result. When running with such high clocks, that's obviously going to add quite some strain. What's more, the benchmark was undertaken at 8K resolution to make for a steep hill to climb.
