GIGABYTE launches a low-profile GeForce RTX 4060 OC model with three fans

Kosta Andreadis | Aug 6, 2023 11:32 PM CDT

The low-profile GPU is not something we see much of anymore, at least not in the mainstream space where the GeForce RTX 4060 lives. With the GeForce RTX 40 Series' impressive power efficiency, the GeForce RTX 4060 can deliver impressive results using just over 100W when gaming. This is just over the power a PCIe slot can provide, hence the requirement for a single 8-pin power connector.

And with the lower power requirement, you've also got the added benefit of not having to go all out with cooling and heatsinks, which is why it's always great to see GeForce RTX 4060 designs playing with the form like the new GeForce RTX 4060 OC Low Profile 8G from GIGABYTE.

Measuring just 182mm in length and with a width of 40mm, even though it features a triple-fan cooling setup, it's still a very small GPU that even ships with a low-profile bracket to support different builds. It's one of the smallest GeForce RTX 4060 GPUs available and even features a small out-of-the-box OC boost.

Is AMD giving up battling NVIDIA at the top-end? Rumor claims RDNA 4 won't have high-end GPUs

Darren Allan | Aug 4, 2023 11:30 AM CDT

AMD's range of RDNA 4 graphics cards may not have any high-end boards, we've heard from the ever-spinning rumor mill.

Is AMD giving up battling NVIDIA at the top-end? Rumor claims RDNA 4 won't have high-end GPUs

We doubtless don't need to tell you that this is a rumor to be particularly skeptical about, as not only are these next-gen GPUs still a long way off - they're set to arrive next year - but it's a real eye-opener. In short, it would be a big move for AMD to dispense with making a Navi 31 equivalent for the next generation (and as the leaker Kepler points out, it harks back to RDNA 1 days).

VideoCardz immediately chipped in to tweet a question about how credible this information is, to which Kepler replied that they've heard it from three separate sources.

PowerColor leaks Radeon RX 7800 XT graphics card details before official AMD reveal

Kosta Andreadis | Aug 3, 2023 11:34 PM CDT

With AMD set to unveil the new Radeon RX 7800 XT later this month, with the launch shortly after that, today comes our first look at one of the partner cards - courtesy of PowerColor. The company inadvertently leaked the info by posting the full product page for the upcoming PowerColor Radeon RX 7800 XT Red Devil graphics card.

PowerColor leaks Radeon RX 7800 XT graphics card details before official AMD reveal

Naturally, the page has since been taken offline, but only after everyone got a full look at the specs - and it paints an interesting picture for the upcoming GPU. With 3840 Stream Processors, the Radeon RX 7800 XT shares the same core count as the previous generation's Radeon RX 6800 (non-XT) but fewer cores than the Radeon RX 6800 XT.

Of course, we're talking about RDNA 2 versus the new RDNA 3 architecture, so there's a lot more to it than this. The full specs for the PowerColor Radeon RX 7800 XT Red Devil also confirm the clock speeds for the new GPU, 2255 MHz for gaming and 2565 MHz for boost which represents a slight overclock over the reference 2210 MHz and 2520 MHz speeds.

Long lost Intel Arc A580 GPU spotted, suggesting this AMD RX 7600 rival could soon arrive

Darren Allan | Aug 3, 2023 1:46 PM CDT

This is a bit of an odd one: Intel announced a mid-range Arc A580 GPU last year, but since then, we've heard nothing about it - though this very A580 has just appeared in a leak.

Long lost Intel Arc A580 GPU spotted, suggesting this AMD RX 7600 rival could soon arrive

As VideoCardz spotted, Benchleaks on Twitter uncovered a Geekbench result for an Arc A580 graphics card (apply all the usual caveats for leaks and rumors, of course - it might just be a falsified entry somehow).

The GPU scored 82992 points in the OpenCL test, which puts it pretty much bang-on level with AMD's Radeon RX 7600 (which is also around the 83000 mark). For the benchmark, the Intel graphics card was paired with one of the firm's Alder Lake processors, a Core i7-12700.

According to a new report (over at VideoCardz), AMD is preparing to launch a new pair of single-slot budget-friendly workstation GPUs with the AMD Radeon Pro W7600 and W7500. Graphics cards with an entry-level price tag, the USD 599 AMD Radeon Pro W600 is set to feature the full Navi 33 GPU with 32 Compute Units and 20 TFLOPS of peak single precision FP32 performance.

AMD is launching budget single-slot Radeon PRO W7500 and W7600 workstation GPUs

With a power rating of 130W via a 6-Pin connecter and 8GB of GDDR6 memory on a 128-bit bus (18 Gbps), the specs for the Radeon Pro W600 line up with the desktop Radeon RX 7600 that AMD launched earlier this year - albeit using 35W less energy.

AMD Radeon Pro W7500 is even more efficient, with a 70W power rating, a cutdown of 28 Compute Units, and 12 TFLOPS of peak single precision FP32 performance. With an entry-level price tag of USD 429, the hardware could be similar to what ends up in a Radeon RX 7500 desktop graphics card - if Team Red chooses to release an entry-level option in the near future.

AMD RX 7900 XTX GPU just made it into Steam hardware survey, right at the bottom of the table

Darren Allan | Aug 2, 2023 10:57 AM CDT

AMD's RX 7900 XTX has been out for a long time now, and yet this GPU has only just appeared on the Steam hardware survey - and it's the only RDNA 3 graphics card to achieve this feat.

AMD RX 7900 XTX GPU just made it into Steam hardware survey, right at the bottom of the table

In Valve's latest survey for July, the RX 7900 XTX sneaks onto the rankings at the bottom of the table, gaining a 0.17% share in terms of all the GPUs used by Steam gamers. In other words, roughly 1 in 500 gaming rigs have the RDNA 3 flagship.

As noted, no other RX 7000 graphics cards have managed to creep onto the GPU rankings in the survey. Mind you, there aren't many others - just the 7900 XT, and the RX 7600, although the latter is a very new release. Whereas the 7900 XTX and XT have been out since December 2022, so have been around for over seven months now.

Will the AI boom see companies buy gaming GPUs to meet the demand?

Kosta Andreadis | Aug 2, 2023 12:59 AM CDT

With a global pandemic, chip shortages, and a crypto mining boom driving up prices, it was a dark time for PC gaming - and something we were hoping was in the rear-view mirror. We know how hard it was to try and find a GeForce RTX 3080 when the card debuted in 2020, let alone one at a reasonable price. This makes some of the reporting we see in the tech landscape a little concerning.

Will the AI boom see companies buy gaming GPUs to meet the demand?

Our friends over at Tom's Hardware and Wccftech cited a Tweet from Comma AI CEO and entrepreneur George Hotz saying, "7.38 PFLOPS of computing was delivered today" alongside an image of several boxes filled with AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPUs - specifically XFX MERC 310 variants.

In conclusion, AI companies could be snapping up gaming GPUs to meet the insane demand for AI chips.

AMD confirms that more RDNA 3 graphics cards for consumers are coming this quarter

Kosta Andreadis | Aug 1, 2023 11:34 PM CDT

The rumors surrounding AMD launching new RDNA 3 graphics cards in September 2023, specifically the new Radeon RX 7800 and Radeon RX 7700, have been picking up steam of late. Reports pointing to a reveal at the massive Gamescom event in Germany later this month and a planned launch shortly after that are now looking more likely than ever, with AMD CEO Lisa Su confirming that more cards are coming this quarter.

AMD confirms that more RDNA 3 graphics cards for consumers are coming this quarter

During AMD's recent quarterly earnings call, Lisa Su said, "In gaming graphics, we expanded our Radeon 7000 GPU series in the second quarter, with the launch of our mainstream RX 7600 cards pertaining to gaming. We're on track to further expand our RDNA 3 GPU offerings with the launch of new enthusiast class Radeon 7000-series cards in the third quarter."

With the Radeon RX 7600 priced at USD 269, it's every bit the mainstream GPU for the RDNA 3 generation of hardware, so the mention of "enthusiast-class" and "cards" plural could only mean the addition of multiple GPUs to sit between the Radeon RX 7600 and the Radeon RX 7900 XT.

Liquid-cooled INNO3D RTX 4090 iCHILL Frostbite Pro features a single slot 'space-saving design'

Kosta Andreadis | Jul 31, 2023 5:56 AM CDT

INNO3D has announced a new pair of liquid-cooled GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards for custom closed-loop systems, with the new iCHILL Frostbite Pro featuring a "compact, one-slot space-saving design." A far cry from the three to four-slot air-cooled behemoths available, the 23mm thickness of the GPU makes it one of the smallest and sleekest high-end options available.

Liquid-cooled INNO3D RTX 4090 iCHILL Frostbite Pro features a single slot 'space-saving design'

Assuming, of course, you're in the market for a high-end liquid-cooled option and need a GeForce RTX 4090. INNO3D has outlined the physical design of the iCHILL Frostbite Pro, confirming that the nickel-plated full copper waterblock covers the GPU, memory, and power components to deliver "better performance than a standard AIO cooler."

Throw in a reinforced carbon fiber backplate and a 24+4 phase configuration, and the INNO3D iCHILL Frostbite Pro is sleek - with the company noting that its compatibility with closed-looped systems is "comprehensive." There's no out-of-the-box OC here, per the official specs for the GPU, but being a liquid-cooled GPU, no doubt that'll be up to the user to configure.

Radeon Adrenalin 23.7.2 drivers are causing massive performance issues on the Ryzen 7 7840U APU

Kosta Andreadis | Jul 31, 2023 3:34 AM CDT

AMD's Radeon drivers have a long and troubled history regarding reliability and performance issues. However, that has become less frequent, with mature and stable driver releases seemingly becoming the norm for Team Red. The idea of bad AMD drivers is more of a misconception than an actual one.

Radeon Adrenalin 23.7.2 drivers are causing massive performance issues on the Ryzen 7 7840U APU

Driver releases don't always go to play, though, as seen with the recent release of Adrenalin Software version 23.7.2. A user (@carygolomb over on Twitter/X) with a Ryzen 7 7840U reported that the driver update incorrectly changed the internal GPU from a Radeon 780M to a slower Radeon 760M - dropping performance to that level, plus causing havoc with their system.

To the point where internal and external devices stopped working entirely - from their Xbox controller to the sound card. Yikes. As a single example, it's not indicative of the bigger picture, at least until tech-focused outlet Digital Foundry responded to confirm that the Ryzen 7 7840U inside its AYANEO PC gaming handheld saw a massive performance hit with the latest driver.

AMD RX 7900, 7800 and 7700 leak suggests aggressively priced GPUs to really worry NVIDIA

Darren Allan | Jul 28, 2023 1:56 PM CDT

We now have an idea of where AMD's inbound mid-range RDNA 3 graphics cards - the GPUs to fill the gaps between the RX 7600 and 7900 series, and that's quite a gulf - might be priced.

AMD RX 7900, 7800 and 7700 leak suggests aggressively priced GPUs to really worry NVIDIA

A new video from YouTuber Moore's Law is Dead (MLID) taps a source who gives us potential pricing for the RX 7700 and 7800, as well as the vanilla RX 7900 (non-XT).

All of this, though, comes with pretty weighty caveats upfront. Firstly, this is just chatter from the grapevine anyway, and secondly, things are rather up in the air still in terms of AMD's decision-making about these next RDNA 3 GPUs and exactly where they'll be positioned.

Colorful unveils new iGame GPUs, a stylish GeForce RTX 4070 Ultra Z and a cute RTX 4060 Ti MINI

Kosta Andreadis | Jul 27, 2023 10:59 PM CDT

Colorful has unveiled a pair of new GeForce RTX graphics cards, each offering something new and interesting to the company's iGame line-up of GPUs. The new Colorful iGame GeForce RTX 4070 Ultra Z OC features a stylish white look with graffiti pink "Ultra" flourishes. It also marks the debut of Colorful's hidden cable management design.

Colorful unveils new iGame GPUs, a stylish GeForce RTX 4070 Ultra Z and a cute RTX 4060 Ti MINI

With a custom PCB design, this new GeForce RTX 4070 opts for the more traditional 8-pin PCIe power connector instead of the new 16-pin 12VHPWR connector seen in many GeForce RTX 40 Series models. For the Colorful iGame GeForce RTX 4070 Ultra Z OC, the power connector is hidden behind the removable backplate to deliver a cleaner look.

And in a very cool move, the GPU comes bundled with a white extension 8-pin power cable to ensure everything looks seamless. Unlike other hidden cabler designs from other companies, this won't require specialized hardware and is compatible with most motherboards. However, Colorful notes that "it is best paired with a case specifically designed to support this concept," allowing room to thread cables freely.

Rare MSI RTX 3080 Ti SUPRIM X with 20GB of VRAM pops up for sale in Sydney, Australia

Kosta Andreadis | Jul 27, 2023 10:29 PM CDT

NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3080 Ti launched with 12GB of VRAM back in 2021, and as is the case with all GPU models, the company went through various revisions before landing on the version that hit retail markets. One of these was a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti with 20GB of VRAM that was scrapped at the last minute - to the point where partners were already producing 20GB RTX 3080 Ti cards.

Rare MSI RTX 3080 Ti SUPRIM X with 20GB of VRAM pops up for sale in Sydney, Australia

Instead of scrapping these GPUs and not being sold at retail, these rare GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 20GB variants were sold to crypto miners through third-party channels. One of these partner cards was the flagship MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Ti SUPRIM X 20G - which has popped up for sale (via Facebook Marketplace) in Sydney, Australia.

The current listing price is AUD 1,100 (around USD 735), with the seller noting that it's an "extremely rare collector's item as NVIDIA canceled these a month before release." As for why the card was ultimately canceled, it probably came down to the additional production cost - so the model pivoted to the 12GB configuration we see today.
