Intel Arc Alchemist A770 desktop GPU: full ACM-G10 GPU at 2.4GHz

Anthony Garreffa | Apr 18, 2022 10:14 PM CDT

Intel has reportedly delayed its Arc Alchemist desktop GPUs to somewhere in the late Q2 or early Q3 2022... but now we have some news on the Arc A770 graphics card.

Intel Arc Alchemist A770 desktop GPU: full ACM-G10 GPU at 2.4GHz

The new Intel Arc Alchemist A770 would feature the full ACM-G10 GPU with clocks at 2.4GHz, and 16GB of GDDR6 memory onboard. The news of the Arc A770 has been tested on the older-gen Intel 9th Gen Core "Coffee Lake" CPU -- the Core i5-9600K processor in particular -- which is used by Intel staffers for internal testing.

The Geekbench listing shows 12.7GB of RAM, but we know that'll be 16GB of GDDR6 memory, while the GPU clocks are at 2.4GHz. At 2.4GHz, that's 200MHz higher than the Arc 3 mobile GPU at 2.2GHz -- but 2.4GHz is also higher than the 2.25GHz (2250MHz) GPU clocks on their desktop GPU.

Intel Arc Alchemist desktop GPUs reportedly delayed, disappointment

Anthony Garreffa | Apr 18, 2022 9:42 PM CDT

Intel has reportedly delayed the launch of its new Arc Alchemist desktop GPUs according to the latest rumors... and it truly doesn't surprise me (or anyone) at this point. It's a mess.

Intel Arc Alchemist desktop GPUs reportedly delayed, disappointment

According to "Enthusiastic Citizen", Intel has delayed its new Arc Alchemist desktop GPUs from late Q2 (end of June) through to early Q3 (July-September). Intel has only confirmed its Arc Alchemist "Limited Edition" GPU so far, with the mobile Arc Alchemist GPU launch a total mess so far, too.

Intel effed the mobile Arc GPU launch up so much that it's now irrelevant (but we, and many other sites and enthusiasts won't forget that) and now the desktop Arc Alchemist launch seems to be running full-speed into the same fate. Intel could have been more upfront about this, but they haven't... so it's just an egg on their face at this point. The Intel i740 AGP launch was better than this...

Anthony Garreffa | Apr 15, 2022 8:01 PM CDT

NVIDIA has launched a silent global campaign for its GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs, where it has announced that supplies have been "Restocked & Reloaded".

NVIDIA announces GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs are 'Restocked & Reloaded*

You should see that multiple AIB partners and retailers have received new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 GPU shipments, with some cards available at MSRP... while other have received discounts. This feels weird though, as the GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs have been out for 18 months now... and in stock... just super-expensive and harder to find. Now, a new launch campaign months before Ada Lovelace...

NVIDIA explains: "GeForce RTX 30 Series graphics cards are now available! Get the ultimate play with immersive ray tracing, a huge AI performance boost with NVIDIA DLSS, game-winning responsiveness with NVIDIA Reflex, and AI-powered voice & video with NVIDIA Broadcast. GIGABYTE Radeon RX 6950 XT GAMING OC appears: listed for $2400+

Anthony Garreffa | Apr 13, 2022 9:28 AM CDT

AMD is still a month away from releasing its RDNA 2 refresh GPUs which will be led by the new flagship Radeon RX 6950 XT, and now the custom GIGABYTE variant has been spotted.

GIGABYTE Radeon RX 6950 XT GAMING OC appears: listed for $2400+

GIGABYTE's upcoming Radeon RX 6950 XT GAMING OC graphics card was spotted on an Australian retailer website for AUD $3241 which works out to around $2400. It's not a full listing, as it's just a placeholder -- the listing is for the Radeon RX 6900 XT variant -- but you can see the product code GV-R695XTGAMING-OC-16GD.

If you compare that against the Australian retail pricing of the custom GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GAMING OC which costs AUD $3339 at Scorptec... which means we should expect similar pricing of AMD's new flagship Radeon RX 6950 XT as we see around the world for NVIDIA's new suped-up GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics card.

Micron preps 16Gb GDDR6X memory for RTX 3090 Ti, 24Gbps is coming

Anthony Garreffa | Apr 12, 2022 9:47 PM CDT

Micron has announced the volume production of its new 16Gb GDDR6X memory modules, which are baked onto NVIDIA's new flagship GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics card.

Micron preps 16Gb GDDR6X memory for RTX 3090 Ti, 24Gbps is coming

The new 16Gb GDDR6X doesn't just have twice the capacity of Micron's previous 8Gb GDDR6X memory, but has 15% higher performance, and some OC wiggle room. On my MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Ti SUPRIM X graphics card, I could overclock the GDDR6X past its new stock 21Gbps bandwidth up to 24Gbps+ in ETH mining. You can see the results of that above.

Micron explains: "Today Micron extends its performance leadership by providing a new graphics memory with 16Gb capacity and running at an industry-best 21Gb/s in the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. With a performance roadmap up to 24Gb/s, GDDR6X is ready for data-hungry applications of the future. Additionally, Micron's innovative use of PAM4 signal techniques in GDDR6X make it more power efficient than any of the GDDR6 products publicly available".

Steam Deck + Radeon RX 6900 XT as external GPU: better at 4K than PS5

Anthony Garreffa | Apr 12, 2022 8:16 PM CDT

Valve's new Steam Deck has been used in an awesome custom way: with its external GPU capability infused with the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card with 16GB of GDDR6 memory.

Steam Deck + Radeon RX 6900 XT as external GPU: better at 4K than PS5

The new Steam Deck was used by ETA Prime with a custom ASRock Radeon RX 6900 XT OC Formula graphics card, connected through the M.2 slot on the Steam Deck... as there is no Thunderbolt port to connect an external GPU. If you use the M.2 slot for an external GPU, then you will have to load your games from the microSD card inside of the Steam Deck, and not an M.2 SSD.

ETA Prime ran a bunch of benchmarks and games with some damn good results, including The Witcher 3 at 4K Ultra settings at 118FPS average... 4K 118FPS average. Sure, it's an external GPU running that... but it's being done through an M.2 slot, as an external GPU connected to a portable, and not-so-fast Steam Deck. Impressive to see.

NVIDIA's next-gen Ada Lovelace AD102 GPU: 24GB GDDR6X @ 21Gbps, 600W+

Anthony Garreffa | Apr 11, 2022 9:49 PM CDT

It's a new day, so we have a new rumor for NVIDIA's next-gen AD102-powered GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card... which BTW, could be called the GeForce RTX 5090... more on that here.

NVIDIA's next-gen Ada Lovelace AD102 GPU: 24GB GDDR6X @ 21Gbps, 600W+

Until now, NVIDIA's next-gen Ada Lovelace GPU would arrive with the flagship AD102-powered GeForce RTX 4090, and 24GB of GDDR6X memory at a faster 24Gbps. The 24GB of GDDR6X memory on the newly-released GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is closed at 21Gbps, for comparison.

But the new rumors state that the RTX 4090 would have the AD102-300 GPU, with 24GB of GDDR6X memory at a slower 21Gbps (so, the same bandwidth as the RTX 3090 Ti and its GDDR6X) but a much higher 600W of power consumption. This is up from the 450-500W of power that the custom RTX 3090 Ti models use, so it should be fun to see how far they can be pushed.

NVIDIA could skip GeForce RTX 40 series, right into RTX 50 series GPUs

Anthony Garreffa | Apr 11, 2022 8:21 PM CDT

NVIDIA has pumped out its last flagship Ampere-based GeForce RTX 30 series GPU, with the release of the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics card... but Ada Lovelace isn't too far away now, and a gigantic rumor has just dropped about the new series GPUs.

NVIDIA could skip GeForce RTX 40 series, right into RTX 50 series GPUs

In a new tweet, leaker @harukaze5719 simply said "RTX 4000 series or RTX 5000 series?" followed up "Well... Whatever...". Alright, so it looks like we have a super-hot rumor that NVIDIA could skip over the GeForce RTX 40 series nomenclature, and into the GeForce RTX 50 series.

I can see this happening given that we're expecting virtually twice the perfgormance out of the flagship AD102-powered GeForce RTX 4090 -- or is that the new GeForce RTX 5090 -- it would feel weird going from the RTX 3090 + RTX 3090 Ti to the RTX 4070 (or RTX 5070) and seeing similar performance, whiel the RTX 4090 (or RTX 5090) only "feels" a little "faster" because its number isn't as high.

AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT: Navi 33 GPU beats RX 6900 XT at 1080p, and RT

Anthony Garreffa | Apr 11, 2022 7:50 PM CDT

AMD's next-gen RDNA 3 architecture will be unleashed later this year, and now we have some very exciting rumors about the mid-range Navi 33-powered Radeon RX 7700 XT graphics card.

AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT: Navi 33 GPU beats RX 6900 XT at 1080p, and RT

The new Radeon RX 7700 XT will reportedly rock a monolithic Navi 33 GPU made on TSMC's 6nm process node, 8GB of GDDR6 memory, and performance that should keep up with AMD's current Navi 21-based flagship Radeon RX 6900 XT. You read that right, not only that, but also power sitting at around 200W... better power efficiency than NVIDIA's Ampere, and next-gen Ada Lovelace GPU architectures.

In his latest video, Tom @ Moore's Law is Dead is leaking out the skinny on Navi 33 + Radeon RX 7700 XT. We are looking at Navi 33 (and thus, the RX 7700 XT) will have "Rasterization Performance Equal or Greater Than RX 6900 XT" while ray tracing performance on the Radeon RX 7700 XT is "greater" than the RX 6900 XT.
