Intel Meteor Lake CPU delays leave OEMs 'royally pissed'
Intel has reportedly left its OEM partners "royally pissed" after major delays to its new Meteor Lake platform. Coincidentally, the company just announced its new AI Everywhere event for December 14, where it will not only introduce its newly-rebranded Core Ultra CPUs, but also the new Meteor Lake CPUs that will have some tricks -- namely AI -- up its sleeve.
In a new video, leaker Moore's Law is Dead had a bunch to reveal about AMD's new Zen 5-based APU launching in 2025, but also had some news regarding Intel's new Meteor Lake CPUs and that their delay has left OEMs "royally pissed". MLID said that OEMs aren't happy because they don't have Meteor Lake laptops ready for the holiday season, and now they've resorted to buying the competitors' processors inside of different laptops.
This means Intel OEMs are now "rushing to buy as much" Phoenix and Rembrandt-R powered laptops, which they were NOT going to do if Intel had Meteor Lake on the market already. The launch event for Meteor Lake happening on December 14, which means we won't have Meteor Lake laptops until the first few weeks of January 2024.

AMD's next-gen Strix Halo, Strix Point, Kraken Point APUs have 3x AI performance boost in 2025
AMD is currently cooking its next-gen APUs that will need a little longer in the oven, according to leaker Moore's Law is Dead, which has new information on Kraken Point, Strix Point, Strix Halo, and Fire Range APUs.
The next-gen APUs have been delayed into 2025, which means we'll see the following APUs in 2024: Mendocino, Barcelo-R, Rembrandt-R, Hawk Point, and Dragon Range. AMD will reportedly have its beefed-up Strix Point APU in the second half of 2024. The APUs with -R on them are refreshes, with Barcelo and Rembrandt both getting refreshed in 2024.
However, the future is all about AI, with NVIDIA leading the charge there with AI GPUs, but Intel and Qualcomm are all about AI right now with the new Meteor Lake CPUs from Intel having AI processing on board, with the same going for the new Snapdragon X Elite SoC from Qualcomm. AMD is making the same move with AI, with its new Hawk Point APU featuring 16 TOPS of AI performance. We also have some numbers on the newer 2025 and beyond APUs that are much more powerful when it comes to processing AI workloads.
Intel beats NVIDIA in GPU business: South Korea's 'Google' buys Intel CPUs for AI workloads
NVIDIA's family of AI GPUs are big business... big, big business... so much so that they're sold out into 2024, and prices are skyrocketing because companies small and large want the best AI GPUs for their workloads.
But now, the "Google" of South Korea, Naver, has switched over from using GPUs to CPUs for some of its AI workloads. Naver was already a customer of NVIDIA, but with issues in the supply chain and prices continuing to rise, the company started using Intel CPUs for the AI platform, looking after fraud detection. This is the first time we've seen a company switch from using AI GPUs from NVIDIA to any CPU for artificial intelligence workloads.
In a new report from The Korea Economy Daily, Naver has replaced NVIDIA GPUs with Intel CPUs for the AI workloads used in its Naver Place map platform. Until now, Naver used NVIDIA AI GPUs to run an AI platform that separated fake listings from real ones in response to user queries. The higher prices and long wait times forced Naver to switch to Intel CPUs, according to sources of The Korean Economy Daily.
NVIDIA's next-gen B100 'Blackwell' AI GPUs hit supply chain certification stage
NVIDIA's next-gen B100 "Blackwell" GPU has entered the supply chain certification stage, one of the important steps of its journey into becoming the truly next-gen AI GPU that will succeed the H100 "Hopper" AI GPU.
We've had news from Chinese and Taiwanese outlets reporting that NVIDIA's new B100 Blackwell AI GPU entering the Supply Chain Certification stage, according to sources of both UDN and CTEE. According to the new reports, NVIDIA is selecting its supply chain partners, with the primary partner being Wistron for production, who will provide NVIIDA with supply substrates required for the next-gen B100 Blackwell AI GPU.
The reports suggested that NVIDIA was looking at Wistron and Foxconn, but Wistron was able to secure the early-stage orders through reservations with yields and other factors that were able to impress NVIDIA enough to put pen to paper. We are to expect NVIDIA's next-gen B100 Blackwell AI GPUs in Q2 2024, where they'll use SK hynix's new HBM3e memory that will push the memory bandwidth numbers through a wall, pushing new limits for AI GPUs in 2024 and beyond.
Intel announces 'AI Everywhere' event for December 14, new Core Ultra 'Meteor Lake' CPUs
Intel's new Core Ultra branding, its new Meteor Lake CPU, new AI abilities, and more will be oh show at Intel's just-announced "AI Everywhere" event, which will take place on December 14.
We can expect a live stream from Intel that will see the company introduce Intel Core Ultra CPUs, shifting away from the Core i3, i5, i7, and i9 branding and into Core Ultra 5, Core Ultra 7, Core Ultra 9, and more. These new CPUs will feature the new Meteor Lake architecture, which will power the new Core Ultra CPUs. Inside, we have a CPU, GPU, and an AI-dedicated VPU design. This event is "AI Everywhere," so we can see Intel wants to highlight its big entry into AI.
Intel will call the AI side of its Meteor Lake CPU as "Core AI capabilities," but we won't know the nitty gritty of that until the AI Everywhere event on December 14. Intel explains: "Join Intel Chief Executive Officer Pat Gelsinger and other Intel leaders for Intel's "AI Everywhere" event. Marking a momentous year for the company, Intel will accelerate its execution engine and power AI workloads across the data center, the cloud and the edge with the launch of 5th Gen Intel® Xeon® processors and Intel® Core™ Ultra processors".
Windows 11 update reportedly has weird installation errors that can take time to recover from
Some Windows 11 users are running into trouble when installing the latest update for the desktop operating system.
That's patch KB5031455 for Windows 11 22H2, and it should be noted that it's an optional update - so you don't have to touch it. These preview updates are by their very nature more likely to have bugs in them, of course.
This update is an important one because it's the first to carry Moment 4 features for Windows 11 users who haven't elected to receive such features early - so this is the full general rollout of Moment 4, in other words.
NVIDIA GeForce Now gets Alan Wake 2 - but some weird errors are annoying players
NVIDIA's GeForce Now service has Alan Wake 2 available to stream now, but there are some minor caveats with the experience to be aware of.
As Wccftech spotted, the game is now out on GeForce Now but there are some errors that might pop up for some folks trying to play in the cloud. Fortunately, these aren't critical errors, and the good news is they can be ignored basically.
The errors have been highlighted on online forums such as Reddit, and they all appear when attempting to launch the game. The first bugged message confusingly tells the gamer that their GPU driver is outdated, and to update it.
Cooler Master has a pair of new HDR-ready 1440p displays for gamers and content creators
Cooler Master is expanding its display lineup with two new additions aimed squarely at gamers and content creators. Targeting the sweet-spot 1440p (QHD 2560x1440) resolution and 27-inch screen size, the Cooler Tempest Master GP2711 and Cooler Master GP2711S offer some tasty specs and features. Did anyone say HDR1000?
The Cooler Master Tempest GP2711 is the premium option of the two, and it ships with a Quantum Dot Mini LED VA panel technology that is super bright - with a typical 600 nits for SDR and HDR peak brightness of 1500 nits for HDR1000 compatibility. Yeah, impressive. For those who have experienced true HDR1000, it's why people go nuts over the technology.
In addition to this, the panel features 576 lighting zones, a 3000:1 contrast ratio for deep blacks, a 165 Hz refresh rate, and excellent color accuracy, with DCI-P3 sitting at 95%. According to Cooler Master, it's the perfect monitor for gaming, work, or content creation.
Windows 11 can now open RAR, 7-Zip, and other compressed files natively... but there's a catch
Earlier this year, we reported on Microsoft expanding its compression support in Windows 11 to include native RAR, 7-Zip, and other file formats that aren't your basic ZIP files. For those that have been dealing with archived files over the years, undoubtedly, you've encountered some RAR files - which have been a Windows staple since Windows 95. Native support has been a long time coming; does this mean no more WinRAR? Well, not quite.
Five months after confirming that Windows 11 would be getting much more compression love, the support arrives as part of the latest KB5031455 (OS Build 22621.2506) Preview update. But there's a catch, at least in this first version. The new compression features in Windows 11 do not support password-encrypted files.
However, the expanded archive support now includes 11 new file formats with the help of the open-source libarchive project, which is described as an "efficient C library that can read and write streaming archives in a variety of formats."
Western Digital is splitting into two companies, one focused on HDDs and one on Flash Memory
A week ago, we heard rumblings that Western Digital and KIOXIA were on the cusp of closing a deal that would see the two companies merge to create the world's largest manufacturer of flash memory solutions. A few days ago, the story changed. The deal fell through due to objections from SK Hynix, a competitor and KIOXIA investor.
None of this was confirmed by either party, but today, Western Digital has announced that it will split into two independent public companies - one that will focus on the HDD market and one on flash memory.
According to the announcement, the split will "better position each franchise to execute innovative technology and product development, capitalize on unique growth opportunities, extend respective leadership positions, and operate more efficiently with distinct capital structures." And it's set to happen in the second half of 2024.
AceMagic Tank 03 is a mini PC with GeForce RTX 3080 mobile graphics and a funky boombox design
Mini PCs can be impressive when you realize how much power they pack into a tiny form factor, and for me, it usually comes down to "What games can it play?" Will it be limited to indie titles that don't require much in the way of GPU hardware, or can it handle playing some modern titles like Resident Evile 4 Remake and Diablo IV with decent visuals and performance?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III PC specs released: is your PC ready?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is getting closer to release, with the PC lead developer Beenox fine-tuning the PC version of the game in preparation for the launch.
The PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will launch with NVIDIA DLSS 3 support, with GeForce RTX 40 series GPU owners enjoying NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation and NVIDIA Reflex technologies. This means that if you've got the right RTX 40 series GPU hardware, you can enable DLSS Super Resolution to boost FPS or turn NVIDIA Reflex on for low-latency COD.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will be in its best form on the PC, with developer Beenox saying gamers can expect 4K graphics and ultrawide gaming monitor support included, 500+ customization options on PC, NVIDIA DLSS 3, and Reflex technology, gamers are protected by Richochet anti-cheat technology, too.

Intel's new Core Ultra 7 155H CPUs found in Lenovo Yoga laptops for sale in Bulgaria
Lenovo seems to be the first partner with Intel's newly-named Core Ultra CPU series, with their new Lenovo Yoga laptops featuring the new Meteor Lake processors from Intel.
The more expensive Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 powered by the Intel Core Ultra 7155H processor costs around $1595, with the CPU packing 6 P-Cores, 8 E-Cores, and 2 LP-Cores with a total of 16 cores and 22 threads of Meteor Lake CPU power that will clock up to 4.8GHz. We have a 14.5-inch 3K 120Hz display, 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 1TB PCIe M.2 NVMe SSD filling out the Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 laptop.
Lenovo also has another model of its Yoga Pro 7 system, with an Intel Core Ultra 5 125H processor, which features 4 P-Cores, 8 E-Cores, and 2 LP-Cores for a total of 14 cores and 18 threads of Meteor Lake CPU power. This model costs around $1396 and features the same 14.5-inch 3K 120Hz display, 32GB of DDR5, and 1TB SSD.
Apple's new M3 series chips launch inside new 14-inch, 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops
Apple has just announced its new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops, powered by its new M3 chips, and now Apple has officially broken up with the Touch Bar with its new MacBook Pro models.
The big new part of the new MacBook Pro laptops is definitely Apple's new M3 chip, which is made by TSMC on its fresh new 3nm process node, but in typical Apple fashion, the company has revealed M3 performance stats against the first-gen M1 chip. So, that's ridiculous... given we won't know exactly how good the M3, M3 Pro, or M3 Max are against the M2 chips.
What we do know: Apple's new M3-powered MacBook Pro will start at $1599, with only 8GB of RAM in its base form, which means you're looking at a $300 premium over the M2-powered MacBook Pro. After that, there's the new higher-end M3 Pro-powered 14-inch MacBook Pro that starts at $1999 and M3 Max-powered 16-inch MacBook Pro, which will start at $2499.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU made in desktop form, benched on 3DMark
NVIDIA's new Ada Lovelace GPU architecture has powered the GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards, but the previous-gen Ampere GPUs in the form of the GeForce RTX 30 series graphics solutions are still in plenty of gaming laptops on the market... but now there's a new Laptop GPU made into a desktop GPU... weird.
Now we're seeing the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU with 16GB of GDDR6 being turned into a desktop RTX 3080 Ti, which has now been put through its paces in 3DMark testing in the form of the GeForce RTX 3080m Ti. Why are we seeing this now? Because something was created out of the cryptocurrency mining insanity, some companies -- mostly in Asian markets -- used mobile GPUs and re-purposed them into desktop graphics cards.
But why? Because the laptop graphics cards didn't have NVIDIA's anti-crypto Lite Hash Rate algorithm, they worked well for cryptocurrency mining operations. They were cheap to buy as well, and NVIDIA didn't put any stops in place to slow any of this down.
ASUS ROG Strix Scar 16 gaming laptop: Core i9-14900HX CPU, RTX 4090 GPU, 1600p 240Hz display
ASUS is cooking a monster new gaming laptop with a tease of the ROG Strix Scar 16 gaming laptop, featuring Intel's new 14th Gen Core "Raptor Lake Refresh" CPU and NVIDIA's flagship GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, as well as so, so much more.
Inside, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 16 gaming laptop rocks the flagship Core i9-14900HX processor, but we don't know the boost CPU clock speeds to expect from the Raptor Lake Refresh mobile CPU. If we compare it to the previous-gen Core i9-13900HX processor, which features 24 cores and 32 threads (with 8 P-Cores and 16 E-Cores) with 36MB of L3 cache. The Core i9-13900HX boosts at up to 5.4GHz, while the Core i9-13980HX (which is a faster chip) at up to 5.6GHz through Thermal Velocity Boost. It would be truly wicked to see 6.0GHz out of the Core i9-14900HX (or maybe the Core i9-14980HX in the future).
On the GPU side of things, we've got NVIDIA's flagship GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU, 64GB of DDR5-5600 RAM, what should be a beautiful 1600p resolution (1600p is a really nice step up from 1440p) at 240Hz. The GPU will be able to handle the resolution + high refresh rate without a problem.
AMD HYPR-RX and 900p resolution supported added to ASUS ROG Ally handheld
ASUS released its super-popular ROG Ally gaming handheld to huge fanfare worldwide with gamers. It has just been updated, providing some new features and a new resolution for the handheld to play.
The ASUS ROG Ally gaming handheld comes with a native 1080p (1920x1080) at 120Hz and supports going down to 720p (1280x720), but with the new update, the ROG Ally now supports 900p (1600x900). This is the perfect resolution in between 1080p and 720p, which will make gamers using 900p feel like it's closer to 1080p than it is to 720p, especially because it's a handheld, closer to your face.
The new BIOS 331 is available with a new AMD graphics driver that can be downloaded from the My ASUS application, which is available on the ASUS ROG Ally handheld. The new GPU drivers include support for AMD HYPR-RX technology, the new 1600x900 resolution support, as well as some bug fixes for EA SPORTS FC 24, Resident Evil Village, and fixes a bug with the ROG Ally recognizing 8K 60Hz external monitors.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora on PC has FSR 3, DLSS 2, and XeSS support
The PC system requirements for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora have been released, and now we have some more information on some of the AI upscaling technologies and visual goodness in the game.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will support AMD's new FSR3 upscaling technology, but also NVIDIA Frame Generation technology, Intel XeSS, and NVIDIA DLSS 2 are all in the game at launch. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will also have ray-traced reflections and shadows, which will be nice in those jungle and water environments.
Massive Entertainment, the developer behind Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, also supports ultrawide gaming monitors and even high-resolution multi-monitor setups... impressive to see, pun intended. The developers have also confirmed there are optimizations for multi-core CPUs, another thing that's good to see for the world of high core counts in current CPUs.

Forget new Macs, Apple's iOS 17.2 update fixes this infuriating iPhone bug
If you've been using your iPhone only for it to randomly stop receiving data over a Wi-Fi connection, you aren't alone. In fact, it's been a problem for a ton of people. So bad had things gotten that Apple seems to have taken note, and now it says that it's fixed whatever was going on under the hood.
That fix will be made available as part of the upcoming iOS 17.2 update that is currently in the hands of beta testers. In a note to those beta testers Apple confirmed that it has resolved the Wi-Fi issue that so many people reported across iOS 17 all the way through the iOS 17.1 update that was released to the public last week.
We've been running the iOS 17.2 beta for a few days and have yet to run into any of the Wi-Fi-related issues that have plagued our iPhones since the launch of iOS 17 in September. Whether or not that means the issue has been fixed for good or if we just haven't fallen foul of it for a while, only time will tell.
WhatsApp is testing adding passkey support for signing in on iPhones
WhatsApp, the wildly popular instant messaging app and platform currently owned by Meta, is reportedly testing the ability for people to use passkeys to sign into their accounts. That's according to code found in the latest beta version of the app.
That code was found by software developer and researcher @aaronp613 on X, the social network previously known as Twitter. The code shows that WhatsApp is working on implementing support for passkeys to allow for safer account management and signing in.
Passkey support would allow users of WhatsApp to sign into the iPhone app using Face ID or Touch ID on devices that support those biometric security systems. For those times when those aren't available - when wearing a mask or gloves, for example - the device's passcode can also be entered instead.
