Elon Musk's AI startup xAI has announced its first AI model called Grok, inspired by Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Like other AI language models, Grok will attempt to answer any question you throw at it with the bonus of suggesting what questions to ask. Interestingly, Grok is described as having "a rebellious streak," with the announcement saying, "Please don't use it if you hate humor."

Grok's "real-time knowledge" of the world comes via X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. The announcement, which reads like something Elon Musk wrote, also adds that Grok will answer "spicy questions that are rejected by most other AI systems."

Launching this week, Grok is currently in "very early beta" thanks to only four months of development and two months of training, but like all AI large language models, it's expected to improve and grow over time.

NVIDIA's newly refreshed GeForce RTX 40 SUPER series of graphics cards have been teased for a while now, with a leaker teasing they should be revealed at CES 2024 in January 2024.

We've had leaks from "kopite7kimi" for years now, with someone asking when they -- the GeForce RTX 40 SUPER cards -- might be coming out, to which the leaker responded simply with "CES." CES -- or the Consumer Electronics Show -- takes place each year in early January and has been a shadow of its former self since the pandemic.

NVIDIA won't have a gigantic presence at the show, but the RTX 40 SUPER graphics cards aren't a next-gen GeForce RTX series but a refresh of their already mega-successful RTX 40 series graphics cards. NVIDIA will be showing off multiple things: new partner custom GPU designs, new technologies -- DLSS, Reflex, etc -- and, of course, AI.

PlayStation users will no longer be able to share screenshots and videos from their PS4 or PS5 consoles to X from November 13, 2023. Following its $10 billion investment into OpenAI, Microsoft has been looking to artificial intelligence to optimize various parts of its business solutions, including its potent Copolit technology integrated into Microsoft 365. Now Microsoft plans to use AI for games development.

Microsoft today announced it has secured a multi-year partnership with Inworld, a company that develops generative AI solutions for games. Examples include using AI to create unscripted NPC dialog via large language models (LLMs). Right now the tech is a bit clunky, and Microsoft aims to create an AI design copilot solution for in-game dialog and quests.

Microsoft asserts that the AI design copilot tech will be used to "empower and assist" game developers with things like dynamic and responsive character dialog (including proximity-based interactions) and in-game activities ranging from quests and side missions. As per The Verge, this AI design copilot will be entirely optional and up to a studio's discretion on whether or not they want to use it.

Apple's new M3 24-inch iMac is a solid option for people who want their computer and their monitor to be one and the same thing, but it isn't quite big enough for some power users. For those who need extra screen real estate, the 27-inch iMac was perfect until it was killed off. Now, any hopes of it making a return and getting an Apple silicon upgrade have been dashed for good.

That's because despite not normally commenting on rumors, Apple has confirmed in a statement to The Verge that it has no intention of releasing an Apple silicon 27-inch iMac. Anyone who wants something of that size is going to have to look elsewhere.

Unsurprisingly, Apple has the perfect answer. Instead of buying the non-existent 27-inch iMac, customers are instead directed towards the Apple Studio Display and either a Mac Studio or a Mac mini. The end result will of course be similar to a 27-inch iMac, including the 5K display that made the Intel-based one so popular.

We're used to speedruns with games, of course, but these days there are super-quick attempts at all sorts of weird and wonderful pursuits in the tech world - like Duolingo.

The language learning app is probably not your first choice for a speedrun, mind, and it looks like YouTuber JoZapinski regretted the idea towards the end of the video uploaded showing the run (see above).

If you're thinking about buying a new Mac any time soon you might want to take a look at a new leak before you do. That leak, we're told, includes the roadmap for Apple's plans for its future products that will use OLED technology in their displays.

Apple is already strongly rumored to have designs on bringing OLED to the iPad Pro as soon as next year, with a 2024 refresh also thought to bring the new M3 chip into the mix. But a new leak by @Tech_Reve on X claims to have confirmed that there are many more Apple devices making the switch to OLED in the not-too-distant future.

The leaker, who is normally known for sharing information on Android devices, shared the entire roadmap that includes those OLED iPad Pros alongside many other products. Most notably, we're told that Apple intends to launch OLED versions of its 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros in 2026 while the most interesting addition is the MacBook Air. That's said to be moving to OLEd as soon as 2027 with both the 13- and 15-inch models namechecked.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is already a good-looking phone by most metrics and now it's about to get even more interesting to look at - although whether it's going to be nice to look at might be a different matter entirely.

That's the news after MSPowerUser reported that Samsung is setting off on a new collaboration with the French luxury fashion brand Maison Margiela. There was a Maison Margiela edition of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 last year and it now seems that the two companies are working together again. But while this will be sold as a Maison Margiela special edition of the phone, it appears it will be a standard Galaxy Z Flip 5 underneath a Maison Margiela-designed case.

The good news is that means that people who want rid of the Maison Margiela branding will be able to easily remove it should they want to.

Sending videos and photos via the WhatsApp instant messaging platform in their original quality might be about to change, with the Meta-owned company testing a tweak that will allow people to send them as files. The change will mean that people no longer have to send photos and videos via the media picker, with WhatsApp now testing the feature via the TestFlight beta program on the iPhone.

The feature change is currently only available in the WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.3.0.76 update, although it seems likely that it will eventually roll out to everyone who installs the app via the App Store.

The tweak was first reported by the WhatsApp watchers at WABetaInfo with the report noting that the change will allow people to send files and videos in their original quality as if they were any other file. However, they will still be limited to the same 2GB size as other files, which could be an issue for those sharing larger and longer videos.

It looks increasingly likely that 2023 is going to be the first year with no new iPad to date, but we can expect something very different from 2024 according to a new report. That report claims that every single aspect of the iPad lineup will get some attention next year, including one big update to the best iPad around.

That report comes via Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, writing in his weekly Power On newsletter, and claims that 2024 will see the entire iPad lineup refreshed in one way or another.

With 2023 being the first time since 2010 that we haven't seen a new iPad arrive, Gurman says that the company plans to refresh the entire lineup in 2024. He has previously said that the biggest update is likely to come to the iPad Pro lineup with new OLED displays likely to come into the mix. The recently announced M3 chip will also make an appearance in that update, making the best iPads even better.

Apple of course announced the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips a week or so ago but that leaves one chip still missing. The M2 Pro remains the chip with the most cores available in Apple's lineup and still powers the Mac Pro and Mac Studio. But those hoping for the arrival of a chip to replace it are likely to have to wait quite a long time, it seems.

That's according to a new report by Mark Gurman writing in his weekly Power On newsletter that covered a variety of subjects, not least Apple's plans for the rest of its chip lineup. According to Gurman, Apple is yet to start broad testing of the M3 Ultra which means that it's unlikely to arrive inside Apple hardware until much later in 2024.

One factor to consider here is the issue of availability. Gurman says that there are only so many 3nm chips to go around, with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max taking up the majority of those. Chipmaker TSMC can't produce such chips fast enough, leaving Apple with just enough to put into the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max-powered machines. Adding the M3 Ultra and the Mac Studio and Mac Pro to the mix is a step too far right now.

Some Apple Watch owners have been suffering from excessive battery drain since they installed watchOS 10.1, an update that arrived with a couple of new features including support for Double Tap on the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 9. But the update also brought with it a battery issue that MacRumors now reports is already on Apple's radar. What's more, a fix is on the way.

Citing an internal memo "obtained from multiple sources," MacRumors says that Apple has a fix on the way and that it will be available in a future watchOS 10.x update. As for when that will arrive, Apple reportedly said that it's coming soon without giving any more specific information. That leaves plenty of wiggle room to allow Apple to get its fix ready before rolling it out to the public.

Alienware has taken two of its peripherals, the Alienware AW420K mechanical keyboard and AW720M gaming mouse, and faithfully re-created them both at 14 times their original size. And with that, you've got the world's largest mechanical keyboard that's over 5 meters long (or 16 feet) with a spacebar the size of a person.

The space apparently took three days to 3D print, and each mechanical switch had to be custom-made because there's no reason for an existing keyboard switch to require over 4 inches of travel distance.
